LionPaw would crash out if he had to train with yet another weirdo. And he was afraid that was the case after seeing the apprentice at the meeting. What the hell? Was this some curse or something? First that lack-of-aggression aid apprentice, then the one who talks funny for his patrol…now this? He just wanted his warrior name to make Ma and kinda-Dad proud, then have everyone that ever left him regret it. Simple enough, yeah? No. Wasn’t ShadowClan supposed to be…like…the only reasonable and logical ones? Ugh. “Here.” he huffed, slight displeasure evident on his face…but wasn’t it always? So who knew what he was upset about this time.

Spiritpaw slunk out of the shadows at Soostorm's call, begrudgingly making his way over to where his mentor and another apprentice was. With a stiff expression and unsteady paws, he sat, waiting for further instructions.

Sootstorm shot Lionpaw a warning look. ''You've been doing extremely well, Lionpaw. Don't ruin it,'' She murmured, her gaze flicking over to Spiritpaw as he arrived. Sootstorm gave him a nod of acknowledgement and led the way out into the territory. ''As I said, we'll be working on ambush today. Which one of you can tell me why we might practice it?''

What had he even done? Nothing. He did absolutely nothing, but his mentor was right about one thing. He was doing extremely well. Always, there was no other choice. What else would he do? Bad? Tsch, what a joke. Anyways- LionPaw padded after his mentor, keeping quiet until a question was posed. “Cause if trouble ever rises we have to act first and act fast. We also have to stay hidden. If we get discovered before we can attack it gives our opponents the advantage of at least being ready…like with RiverClan…that was a sorta ambush, right?” he looked at his mentor as he asked the question, not knowing the answer himself. He was just born before the 3v1, he knew no true detail.

''Not when they knew it was coming,'' Sootstorm pointed out, glancing at Lionpaw. ''RiverClan was under Fadingstar's leadership back then. Pretty sure he saw it coming, you know? Otherwise, they wouldn't have been as prepared as they were. You're correct, though. It was kinda like an ambush.''

''Acting first gets you further than acting fast,'' She meowed with a wave of her tail. ''If you act fast, you might be a bit sloppy. Your moves need to be calculated. Controlled. On point. Do you see where I'm coming from?''

Spiritpaw barely cared enough to give a full, thought-out answer. He simply sat silently as Lionpaw did all the talking. And it seemed like Sootstorm was fine with it. As the warrior began speaking again, Spiritpaw gave a half-hearted nod, gaze travelling elsewhere. Can't she just get to the good part already? Smh.

Pay. Attention. This will define your future in ShadowClan. Ask questions, be angaged. That's a good apprentice no? Now eyes to your mentor.

A sharp exhale. But he didn't want to stay in ShadowClan. This was not where he wanted to be! So what was the point??? Spiritpaw shuffled his paws, turning his gaze to Sootstorm. Alright then.

"How would you know when and how to act? You take too long thinking, and they might get you by the time you figure crap out." He hadn't meant for it to come out so nasty, but it isn't like he can take back the words now, is it?

She turned to face her apprentices, green eyes narrowing against the sunlight. ''You don't let your opponent know that you're there, meaning that they shouldn't be able to see, scent, or hear you. As for knowing when to act? As soon as you're absolutely positive that your opponent doesn't know that you're lurking. However, you cannot overthink. Overthinking will only lead to chaos and disaster. Overthinking can lead to you being seriously injured or killed. That is why we act first, and why we only act when we are positive that our enemy doesn't know we're there.''

''You two picking up what I'm putting down?'' the gray-and-white warrior questioned, making sure that they were paying attention.
