“I will be! I super-duper-promise!” The she-kit squeaked, jer tail swaying happily behind her. “I wanna be like Mr. CrowTooth used to be! N’ DustBunny n’ VineSmoke!” a small pause, “Oh! And like ColdK- well…ColdPaw is gonna be!” In simple terms, RaccoonKit wanted to be a tunneler. She needed to be.
He listens to his mother's explanation as he pads closer, attempting to climb into her nest so he can cuddle with her. "Oh. That makes sense. I don't mind, I'll be ready next meeting. Who'll my mentor be?"
Twilightstar shifts in her nest to make room for her growing kit. These little guys were getting so big. She wasn't sure if she was happy or sad about that. Twilightstar's never been overly dependent on her family, however, that didn't mean she didn't want them around. She loved her kits even if she didn't say it enough. "Who's to say." Twilightstar trilled with the smallest smirk. "If I tell you it would ruin the surprise." The scarred feline began grooming the kit as soon as he was comfortable and curled her tail around him.
Twilightstar's ears perked up at the announcement of Raccoonkit's interest in tunneling. "Oh, you want to be a tunneler. That's wonderful." She beamed lovingly. WindClan never had enough tunnelers and she was glad to have her kits take an interest in it. Now she had to figure out who to give her to. Vinesmoke was too young, she did not doubt the tom's skill or ability, but one needed to learn how to walk before he could run. Throw two tunneler apprentices at him when he hadn't ever trained one before was asking for trouble. It is even more pressure to give him two of her kits.
Crowtooth's just got three new apprentices fresh from the nursery, she was sure he had no problem with another one. But Dustbunny's been working with Fleetpaw and Littlepaw for a couple of moons now their training should hopefully be on the verge of finishing. Dustbunny was probably the safest bet for now. Once Vinesmoke completed Coldpaw's training she'd have no problem with giving him more tunneling apprentices.
Honeypaw's ears swiveled, and the golden-and-white she-cat nodded. ''Y-Yeah, but he was saying things like, 'you need to control your opponent,' which is one thing I don't understand. How am I supposed to control my opponent if I'm unable to control their body?'' She tipped her head to the side. ''He also told me to 'seek victory, not fairness.'''
''If...If it's not a problem with you, Twilightstar, I would like to try tunnelling. I know that WindClan is low on tunnelers,'' Honeypaw shifted on her paws.
"Well," the senior warrior mewed with ease, allowing immodesty to lace her words with an easy levity to them as she purred. "Could hardly call myself his mentor if I allowed a darling apprentice to be nothing short of commendable during their assessment. WindClan might be honorable and code abiding, but the other clans have proven to only follow the ways of the clans when it is convenient to them far too many times to be lax in training."
Despite the almost casual tone of her voice, Dapplebreeze's eyes sparked with severity at her words. She took pride in being a clan cat. She did not scoff at cats born outside her beloved clan being taken in when times were prosperous and the clan could accept outsiders joining in. But she had lived too long and seen too much. Polite as she might be, she would never see the other clans as anything more than dangerous rogues who pretended to follow the ways of StarClan if only to have their blessings. Hypocrites and the lowest of the low... especially cats like Dawnstar and her vultures. She had been honest in her words. The patched queen would never have allowed Birchpaw to pass her test if she did not think he would survive against the cruel claws of their enemies.
Of course, her severity did not last long, clear happiness shimmering within her blue gaze at the mention of not one, but three apprentices to be made into warriors during the next meeting. Oh, when had the last apprentice made it to warrior in WindClan? It had been far too long. Especially when one considered the amount of apprentices the clan had! And would be getting, with how filled to the brim the nursery had been for moons now. Blessings upon WindClan, all of the little darlings, but kits that would be in need of training nonetheless. And... speaking of kits...
"Oh! That is simply marvelous, Twilightstar. Three warriors. It is high time for celebration indeed. And at such an excellent time, too. Why, I would assume that even your precious darlings should be close to their apprenticeship as well?" Dapplebreeze mewed, unintentionally nosy when it came to the matter of kits. Proud and ferocious as she might be in battle, the fluffy she-cat had always been a mother at heart from the moment she laid eyes on her own first litter so many seasons ago.
