Stars, why did this have to be his punishment? Nightpaw felt overcome with dread as he made his way to stand outside the medicine den in the sun's evening glow. Did Sleepysunrise perhaps know about his fear of the dark? If she did, Nightpaw really didn’t want to do anything that would annoy her again. Being demoted to kit last time was a bit humiliating, but he couldn’t think of anything worse than being forced to stand guard all night! As the light faded from the sky, Nightpaw felt a strong urge to go to the apprentices den and get to sleep before the darkness fell like he often did. But he couldn’t. If this was meant to be a mild punishment, he’d dread to know what a severe one would be like, and if Sleepysunrise found out he'd tried to get out of this, he'd definitely be in for something worse, somehow.
Soon darkness came, and Nightpaw wanted desperately to run and hide. Paralysed with fear, he flinched at every unknown sound, his eyes wide with terror the entire night, mildly shaking. He prayed to StarClan no cat would come across him, because then his secret would be out, and he knew he could be bullied by other apprentices for it. Nightpaw felt a sudden rush of shame, he felt embarrassed that he was a ShadowClan cat with a fear of the dark. Night was even part of his name! Yet it's the time when he felt the most uncomfortable.

Lazy cats.
That's all Covepaw could see as he padded through the camp. Languidly elders who couldn't get their brittle bones and soft muscles to even step outside the den. Warriors who slept the day away or chatted like starlings instead of doing their duties. Apprentices lazing away in the sun instead if training.
Lazy.
All of Them.
There wasn't a single proper one in this bunch, not to mention the whole mouse-brain plot about starclan and the dark forest.
Moons above everyone was stupid.
Why would anyone give away their lives for some dead cats? They're DEAD. They couldn't even keep themselves alive for long!
Covepaw scoffed, tail lashing in aggravation.

Fishpaw stared at mudslide as her mentor crouched in front of her with squared shoulders and their tail and ears low, so fishpaw copied shifting her weight to match both sides as she pinned her ears back and let her tail rest behind her. Now she was getting somewhere she looked more stable and not like she was going to fall over. Fish looked over towards mudslide . She thought her stance was good, it felt right, it felt better then before and she hoped it was.
Well, the meeting came to a close and Scorp wanted to get on her training as soon as possible. So, with her claws dug into the ice for traction, Scorpionpaw would stamp her way to the nearest victim. Unfortunately, she didn't know this warrior and thus didn't know their name. She'd also skip formal greetings, something that she picked up from Mama and the mass amounts of cats that came and left her den. "Hey you!" She called out, approaching as gracefully as the ice would allow her.
"I wanna get my training started! Will you teach me something?! Anything! I dunno who my mentor Midnightsun is, but you're here," she tried to reason this thought process out, but it was still fairly kittish, which... what else do you expect from a newly made apprentice? Hopefully, this warrior wouldn't turn her away, she'd have to go tell her Mama about it if he did! Not that she'd do much about it, but Scorp wouldn't understand that.
blackpine, he/him, 41 moons
shadowclan warrior
a large black tom with one emerald green eye.
Everything seemed too peaceful today, in Blackpine's opinion. There was nothing to do in the Shadowclan camp, nothing to work on, no cats to talk to. Everyone around him seemed equally unoccupied and uninteresting.
Back in his youth, during times like these, Blackpine would just go and cause some trouble to amuse himself. Talk to a cat who obviously was in a bad mood, scare an especially twitchy clanmate, something like that. Unfortunately, he had matured. Now Blackpine was a mate, an experienced warrior, and most of all a father. He had become a good role model. And really, it was boring.
(Still, he wouldn't trade his current life for the world.)
So while some might be annoyed at a young, excited apprentice bluntly asking them for training, Blackpine wasn't at all. Finally, something to do- and a cat who seemed to have some life in them. Blackpine gave the brown tabby a friendly grin, green eye sparkling.
"Scorpionpaw, right?" One of Dawnstar's kits? Not like it mattered to Blackpine. To him, a kid was a kid, no matter how fancy or scummy their parents were. He treated them all the same.
Blackpine gave an exaggerated, thoughtful hum, like he was really thinking on whether to agree. He closed his eye for a moment. "Well, as you can see, I am very busy... but eh, sure. Why not!" If Scorpionpaw was fine with anything, then that just meant it was more fun for Blackpine. Now, what to teach her?
"How about some sparring? I'll show you some fighting moves, you can try to take me down. How does that sound?"

➢ Seeing cats awake at this hour often made her skin crawl with bits of anxiety regardless of possible intetentions. The night time was hers to wander, not watch other sleepless members of her Clan from the shadows. Though an evil part of her wanted to tested the fear leaking off the younger cat, she wasn't familiar with him much, only a name and that they were of the same Rank. That's all the Hauntress needed wasn't it...? Yeah, maybe they could call her wicked but this was her form of fun. So they disappear into the shadows, blue and amber gaze not once leaving the poor cat guarding the Clan's most important area. His name leaving her lips in it's usual husky sound followed but a distorted giggle. "nightttttttpawwwwww"
The Apprentice reappears, next to him. Born from the shadows she sits quietly, a smirk showing faintly on her maw. Another chuckle escaping her maw, low in volume and sounding more "normal" yet still subtly off. "How's night watch going?" A stupid question yet, but it was playful at best and at worst a sick joke at his expense. The eyebags under their own eyes not making their smirk any better as they stare at the tomcat. Awaiting his response. Silently....eyes not once leaving him.

Settled near the entrance of the medicine den, Silentpaw couldn't help but notice a particular apprentice with a rather distasteful expression. He wasn't sure why. His eyes were usually drawn to more quiet and reserved cats, and this seemed like no exception. Usual deadpan gaze casted at the grey-furred feline's direction, the medicine cat apprentice could care less if they were snapped at for staring. The aggravated tail lash did not go unnoticed by the patched tabby tom and only then he shot a narrowed-eyed look at the apprentice. Has this cat got a problem with the cats in his own Clan? Unbelievable.
Silentpaw wouldn't call himself particularly enjoyable or even remotely nice to be around, but he certainly did not appreciate a young apprentice going around frowning at everyone when they were still clearly inexperienced. It was strange. It rubbed him the wrong way, that was for sure.
The staring resumed, and though it may seem like pointless staring, the young tom was set on analysing the apprentice's every twitch of movement. It was just what he did. It was what he was good at.

Eyes were on him.
The tom's critical golden gaze turned back towards Silentpaw, and soon enough, the fluffy tom was staring back.
Violet eyes glaring back at cynical yellow orbs.
The two apprentices simply stood there, staring at one another, Covepaw assessing the medicine cat apprentice. The various grey tom flicked his ear, as if acknowledging Silentpaw, and by far it was the closest thing anybody could get to respect from the judgmental apprentice.
