something he just recently learned he could do, pull others into his dream! pretty damn cool. while he figured out the... mechanics of his ability, he often pulled random cats into dreams.

tonights accidental target? a black (or dark gray, he couldnt really tell from here) cat with white rings on his tail, a white chest, and paws. interesting looks, hopefully the stories this cat carries with him are as interesting as his appearance. " 'ello, may i ask what yer name is?"

far more polite than this scruffy cat deserved, but if he was polite enough, maybe this other cat would exchange stories with him...

following the familiar nightly battle of attempting to get his mind to quiet for a moment rookfire didnt open his eyes to thick fog and pale grass of his dreamscape for once, instead he would find himself in a unfamiliar place with a stranger instead. arguably better than waking up with a unfamiliar cat in his own dreamscape. this felt like he held more control in a weird way, given he could simply wake up and disappear or force himself to shift back into his own dreamscape if he tried really hard (or that was at least what he would like to be true and chose to believe..well, the waking up part was true in both cases anyway) but he didnt necesarrily get the time to think that much anyway because the black and white cat spoke up.
a question. beginning with a question after practically kidnapping rookfire from his own dreamscape. pff. cool grey eyes narrowing and his striped tail jerking back and forth behind, he took a few steps to the side as if preparing to pace around the stranger, but he stopped a few paces further to the side, eyeing the cat with suspicion.
after a moment of silence, deciding he did not like the stranger, bad feeling swirling in his stomach alongside not recognising him as a fellow clan cat n all that, rookfire decided to go on the defence for this one. already one step towards attempting to get himself to wake up to get out of this before things got weird, he decided to give the other the benefit of doubt, let em prove themselves within the next few moments and perhaps rook wouldnt disappear as fast as he had appeared.
"no." he refused. well, should it really count as refusal of the seemingly older cat had given him a question that could be structurally answered with yes or no and he had simply chosen the latter option? probably yes, because he knew how it was meant, just didnt care all that much. a matter of respect, such the dark stranger was yet to earn from shadowclans newest high rank addition.

well! that's one hell of a way to start off! the aggression was clear from the other tom. his amber hues narrowed in disappointment, "no need t' be aggressive. 'm not much of a fighter 'nyway." he curled his fluffy black tail around his paws as he sat.

" 'm more of a nomad 'nyway. i collect stories 'n knowledge. i trade stories fro' time t' time too" he wasn't well-built like a clancat. far from it. but he wasnt built like a everkit, either. " i'd say lets try this 'gain. my name's vanta, what's yers?"

the wall this cat put up told vanta that there were some juicy stories coursing through the others head. he could play nice for a little while longer. it couldnt hurt. not for his tales.

striped tail flicking behind him, the medics ear twitched in irritation at the reply.'m not aggressive. im cautious. rookfire contered quickly, voice remaining neutral apart from the slight edge slipping through at the tail end of his correction. the second part of his reply did the opposite of what it was probably supposed to, instead of making him feel safer or less on edge, the dark tom assuring he wasnt much of a fighter only futhered his suspicion, remaining standing and ready to either force himself to wake up or fight back at any moment. without all the fog engulfing him like in his own dreamscape, it was kind of hard to keep track of his location, having to remind himself that they werent physically in the same space and the stranger could (as far as he knew) not hurt him no matter how hard he tried. well, he hoped that at least, had never tried to hurt anyone or been hurt in a dream so it was just wishful thinking really. not that he would admit that.

collecting stories huh. stories and knowledge. probably two of the top things he would not want to share with a complete stranger that had intruded on his sleep by pulling him into their own. in a way, sharing things like his name, heritage and rank wasnt as concerning to him if it was other clan cats, a total stranger however,, a different story entirely. for what reason? rook couldnt quite tell. "yer not gettin' any stories or knowledge from me, better give up now before ye get desperate" rookfire once again metaphorically pulled back, building up the walls between him and the other cat in an effort of keeping as much of himself to himself. scare the other off before they got any stupid ideas. desperation wasnt a good look on most cats, and he kind of got the feeling the outsider would be the annoying kind of desperate instead of the entertaining one. though, to be fair, most cats tended to be annoying rather than entertaining when upset in any capacity.
"weird name, yer not getting mine."

his white ear flicked in annoyance. "cautious, 'ey? most of the cats i meet are glad t' exchange stories with me." he scoffed, his polite act dropping.

"i'll tell y' this much. i didnt intentionally pull y' 'ere. i just learned i could pull others into my dreamscape, so 'm just bringin' rando's into my dreams."

"yer actin' like you're right out straight! the tale's don' need t' be true, make up one for all i care. i just want somethin'. if it'll incentivize y', i'll tell y' a story my parent told me 'bout my father."

"well, yer just pissin' me off now. tellin' me my name is weird?" not that his name wasn't weird. definitely less weird than his siblings, though. hell, his brother's name is mursuli. his sister's name perigune, and his other sibling's name is asra!

"y' look like a raccoon, striped tail 'n all. so i'll call y' raccoon. or maybe a magpie? which d'ya prefer?"

rookfire snorted at the strangers next 'observation'. of course he would be cautious. did he look like a bloody fool? well, in some cats eyes surely, but there was a limit and this didnt make him feel very safe. perhaps he let himself be swayed too much by his feelings and the impressions he got from cats but he wasnt dead yet so how bad could it be?

"oh in that case im the ruler of the bloody world n i'll summon the ocean ta' swallow ya so i dont have ta' listen to yer yappin' any longer" he deadpanned, unimpressed by the whimsical nature of his curiosity the other seemed to attempt to deliver with this statement.

'well, yer just pissin' me off now. tellin' me my name is weird?' at that rookfire yawned, not even bothering to stifle it, fangs glistening in the low light before sandpaper tongue ran along the very same teeth that had taken a former clanmates life just a few days prior. thoughts wandered, briefly reminiscing about the night it had happened, already going well enough judging alone that mistlewhisker was willingly taking a very very late night walk because he couldnt sleep and wanted more herbs before the ground froze over, to dawnstar appearing out of nowhere and putting it on him to execute her orders. in his mind, undoubtebly a show of either trust or the precurser of such. but oh he wasnt allowed his moment of peace for too long because the stranger,vanta as he had said, continued talking.

rookfire briefly looked annoyed, raccoon? seriously man. literally the one singular quality he shared with raccoons was the tail, not 'tail n all' and even though he had never seen a raccoon he kind of got the impression they would stink and took it as an insult. or maybe that was because vanta was the fifth or sixth cat within the past two moons to disrupt what was supposed to be mostly uneventful, revitalising sleep. either way, his expression smoothed out before long and the medic finally answered.

stars he's boring. and... mad?? the hell did he do to deserve this??

"alrigh' magpie, yer one borin' cat, y' know? y' want water? fine." rain began to fall, a light drizzle. vanta lowered himself to the ground, tucking his paws towards his chest.

"there's yer water. happy now?" if looks could kill, ooh boy magpie would be ashes. amber hues fixed onto the other, he spoke; "alrigh' listen here, magpie." his voice was cold, words unforgiving. "yer rude, i bet y' don have nobody t' lean on. better fix that attitude before someone else does first. y' think anger is the way t' go 'bout thin's, don'cha? lemme tell y' anger 'n attitude pushes others away. yer actions do. trust me. my brother is a manipulative cat. i don talk t' him anymore, y'know why? 'cause he was mean 'n he brough' it upon himself." his dark tail lashed behind him as he spoke, ears pinned, but not moving to attack in any way.

rookfire wasnt impressed when vanta made it rain, simply continuing to stand in the slight drizzle the stranger had summoned and look pointedly unimpressed. controlling ones dreamscape was far from new to him, finding out the dark tom was able to do that was kind of surprising, he had not expected this much control and skill from him but one never stops learning huh.
"phenomenal." he replied flatly, ignoring vantas obvious irritation. he truly didnt care much, being snappy or rude was more of a defence mechanism than his actual personality but this was mostly for his entertainment and due his disinterest in the older tom. vanta seemed upset though, truly. and it was kind of funny because, as already stated, rook couldnt really care less about the other.

thick tabbied grey pelt slowly but surely moving in the direction of laying slick against his body, rook half considered shaking it out for some brief elevated comfort but quickly decided against it in favour of continuing to stand more or less battle ready and ignore it. because he didnt care. this was all about appearances.

at vantas next words rookfire simply shrugged. looked like the stranger had gotten pretty riled up about this, ears pinned and tail lashing, trying to make rookfire break under words intended to stab at his outer shell. "'s been workin' out pretty well for me so far" the medic replied, flashing vanta a brief grin before moving on. "bold 'a ya ta' assume this is how i speak ta' everyone"

alright, by now, his grace period had run out and rookfire decided it was time to do what he had been postponing for a while now. shifting out of the position he had been holding for a while he leaned forwards, back curled into a high peak and hind limbs stretched out one by one before giving another flick of his ear and lashing his tail once. before one could say anything, a thick wisp of fog replaced the medicine cat apprentice, thinning out before disappearing into nothingness quickly.
