Although she hated to admit it, kits needed to start learning how to hunt. Unlike apprentices, however, kits did not need to go out of camp and search for prey. She knew there were classes taking place in the new den, but the young Keeper wasn't keen on getting in a cramped area with other kits at the moment. Instead, what Flameheart thought of doing the lesson under the Thunderwillow, where there were bound to be leaves on top of the snow. The snow...
Looking out into the camp, she saw some flurries coming down and sighed. The lesson would be a little short, but it was better than nothing. Perhaps the next time she holds lessons it would be in the Kit Corner, just like the rest of them. "Redkit, Honeykit! I heard you two wanted to learn how to hunt!" she called softly to the kits in the nursery, hoping she wasn't disturbing the queens and other kits. "I'll be your teacher for this little lesson, come along now!"

"Noooo." Honeykit groaned, rolling over in her nest as her name was called. She was not getting up! Not today! "It's sooo cold outside." The pretty dilute calico whined, voice undoubtedly holding the start of a tantrum as Flameheart began yapping about some class. Honeykit didn't want to learn! Never! "Let me sleep more, just for a little while."

~ Redkit slowly opened her eyes at the sound of her name. The calico kit let out a yawn before stretching and sitting up blinking the sleep out of her blue eyes. Redkit looked over at Honeykit flicking the tip of her tail. It was understandable for her younger sister not wanting to get up. The kit then looked over at Flameheart, she did want to learn how to hunt and provide. Mostly for her siblings and nothing was gonna stop that. Redkit stood up and padded over to the ginger Maine coon looking up at her.

Honeykit, to her amusement, was a little more stubborn. But Flameheart expected nothing less from kits. However, unlike her littermate, Redkit was willing and ready to learn. With a soft chuckle, the young Keeper got closer to the stubborn kit and bent down. "Little one... warriors must wake up bright and early. Apprentices too! Don't you want to impress your future mentor and start learning the basics? You know... when I was a kit... I started to learn the basics of hunting. And look where I'm at now, I'm a Keeper! Who knows, maybe you'll become a Keeper after you become a warrior!
There was no need to tell Honeykit that Flameheart was teaching herself how to hunt when she was a kit. Just as long as my point gets across, there's no reason I should share that information with these two. The less they know, the less bearings they have for an argument."We all have to deal with the cold weather at some point in our lives, too. It's best to get thick fur now so you don't freeze your little toe beans off later!"

"Aargh." Honeykit complained, sitting up in her nest as Flameheart started talking to her, explaining how the Keeper herself had begun learning hunting when she was a kit too. "Hmph, fine!" She grumbled, olive eyes narrowed with frustration, as if this was all her choice and she was willingly letting Flameheart teach her hunting. Shuffling out of the warm nest, and regretting it a moment later, Honeykit waddled over to stand beside Redkit for a moment before plopping down on her rump once more. "Teach me hunting!" She demanded, blinking over her shoulder at the maine coon cat. "But... can't we do it in here? I don't want cold fur."

~ Redkit watched her sister as the dilute calico plopped herself down next to Redkit. The calico she-kit made a slight thinking face. A cold sister wasn't good. Not good at all. A small idea popped into the mostly red-kit's head.
"You can stay close me. I'm warm, Honeykit."
Now saying the idea was easy but the execution.. not so much, but logic wasn't really running in Redkits brain only keeping her younger sister warm was. ~

Her eyes sparked with amusement as Honeykit agreed, although hesitantly, to learning how to hunt. The kit didn't take long to go sit next to her sister after getting out of her nest. "You don't want cold fur? Well, come on now! Honeykit, we all have to deal with the cold. Sootfur does, and he's got shorter fur than I do! To cope with it, you can fluff out your fur and stand close to Redkit here if you get too cold. There aren't big enough leaves in the den to practice hunting anyway. We have to go under the thunderwillow. It'll offer us protection from any wind and provide us quite a few targets for practice. Redkit, the same goes for you, fluffing out your fur can work quite well. Our lesson won't last too long, just until you get your paws on the target."
Her eyes widened as she came up with an idea, "You two will get warmer when you get moving. However... you two take turns pouncing. The one who isn't pouncing can sit next to me and use my fur from my body and tail to keep yourself warm while you watch. Does that sound good to you two?"
Honeykit was much more difficult and more hesitant to agree on certain aspects of what's being spoken. If Flameheart didn't know better, she'd say Honeykit got this behavior from her father. Mapleleaf was much kinder than Honeykit ever was, but who knew. Perhaps, underneath all that kindness, her old temporary mentor had a spoiled personality. It was really hard to tell who the little one got that part of her personality from though.
"You know- I forgot to mention... I learned how to hunt thanks to your mother. I can tell you about her while we do pouncing practice!

It was one thing to be cold. It was another, entirely, to be spoiled to bits due to whining about that cold. And that, was exactly the way Honeykit liked it. Not being.. not being literal bits, of course, but you.. you get the point. So now, after having trudged out of her nest and snuggling into Redkit's side like the spoiled kit she was, Honeykit fixated wide, pleading olive eyes upon Flameheart. Practically begging to be removed from this torture.
But alas, Honeykit would not be free. Sighing dramatically as Flameheart mentioned some Sootface or something, the pretty dilute calico did pause long enough to fluff out her fur. Oh right, that was a thing. As the lesson went on, Honeykit glanced expectantly to her older sister, waiting for Redkit to do the pouncing first. Because that was what older sisters did, right? They saved their little siblings from possible embarrassment, right?
Before she could, however, Flameheart mentioned their mother. Like, their REAL mother! Mouth agape with awe, the tiny four moon kitten once again turned pleading eyes towards the Keeper, wholly attentive. "Can you tell us, please? Pleaaaaaaase??"

~ Redkit looked at Honeykit as she had snuggled up next to Redkit. The calico looked back at Flameheart once the warrior started to speak. The mostly red kit went and fluffed out her fur before turning her attention back to Flameheart. Taking turns pouncing? That would be fun. Oh! And the one not pouncing could stay warm by Flameheart! That seemed like a good deal. Especially if it meant Honeykit got to stay warm.
"I can go first for pouncing!"
Redkit said even if the warrior hadn't brought up who was going first. Then something the warrior had said made the kits eyes go wide. Their mother. Not Rainfall. Their actual mother! Redkit nodded when Honeykit had started to plead.~

Flameheart hadn't spoken or really thought about her former temporary mentor until she had begun teaching Honeykit and Redkit. The calico tabby had taught her much of what she knew, and for that, Flameheart would be eternally grateful.
"Well... alright!" she laughed and took a leaf out of a bush and placed it on the ground before beginning her story. "Your mother, Mapleleaf, was a dedicated warrior to ThunderClan. When it was discovered that Cinderpaw was taken by RiverClan after the battle at Firefly Cove, she was one of the two warriors to accompany Cindersky, Cinderstar back then, to bring Cinderpaw home. She returned early though, for reasons that remain a mystery to the whole of ThunderClan. She always attended meetings and sat next to Thunderblaze, your father. But her dedication to ThunderClan got the best of her, and her exhaustion led to complications during her kitting. That is why she isn't here anymore, but don't fret. She's still a part of you two. She had calico and tabby markings, just like you two. Yewkit, your littermate who was stillborn, and Hollykit, your other littermate, were also calico and tabby. You could say she's a part of you, whether you can see her or not."
Feeling a lot more sentimental than she had planned when speaking about Mapleleaf, Flameheart made a quick getaway and looked toward the two kits to officially start the basic hunting lesson they were so stubborn about.
"Before I continue, why don't you show us your best hunting crouch, Redkit? Before you pounce, I want to make sure your stance is good. Same goes for you, Honeykit. Pay close attention to your sister so that when it comes time for you to try, you can copy her movement."
