The russet cat nodded, "I'll teach you the front paw strike, where you slam your paw hard into the opponents head. You can do this claws sheathed or unsheathed. I will then teach you the leap and hold, a great move for small cats or apprentices."

He moved so his body was more balanced and he would have been harder to knock down during a real fight. He moved his paw out quickly like an enemy cat was there. Once that was done he turned his head toward Larkpaw, "You can try it on me, though keep your claws sheathed. I don't want to deal with an angry Elmshadow during this season." Xe said with a tail flick.

Watching with rapt attention as Sorrelflare demonstrated the moves, Larkpaw nodded eagerly, and then moved forward herself as her mentor asked her to copy. She waited a beat, and then with a burst of speed lunged forward, slamming a sheathed paw as instructed down upon Sorrelflare's head. Or at least, that was where she aimed. Whether it hit or not, she'd just have to find out in a moment.

The russet tom was not prepared for the speed of the apprentice and felt the thump on his head but grunted and quickly darted forward after he quickly recovered. He knew that even if the apprentice was able to hit him, any other warrior would simply try and catch them off guard as well. He was going to try and surprised Larkpaw and then pin her down.

Bitter satisfaction enveloped Larkpaw's heart as her paw made contact with the top of Sorrelflare's head, causing her mentor to grunt in surprise. It had been so long since she'd hit something. So, so long from the days she'd spent sparring against her brother. Now, being able to physically hit something felt relieving. Relief coursed through her veins, as well as the rush of adrenaline. Even when she found herself pinned against the floor, barely out of breath, did the excitement gleam in Larkpaw's amber gaze. "I got distracted." She stated, knowing full well what she'd done wrong. She'd let distraction get the better of her, and well, at least Larkpaw knew it wouldn't happen again. "We can move on." She amended after a moment, not wanting to linger too long on something that she already saw fault in. She'd learnt from her mistake, and loitering on the topic would only cause the day to drag on.

He nodded, "Good, you are observant." He quickly got off of her and shook his fur out before speaking, "The next one you will leap onto my back and you can dig your claws into me. This is good for when facing a warrior that is larger than you, but do not stay on a warriors back for long. They can easily crush you and get a killing blow in if they are quick enough."

He had gotten into a position, still posed to attack but he knew he would let her leap and hold him.
