He hummed lightly as his tail flicked, "Looks good, just keep your body slightly above the ground, don't be completely flat on the ground." Xir ears swiveled as he heard some scuttling behind him.

His voice turned quiet as he spoke, not wanting to scare the prey away, "For tracking and stalking, you need to keep the scent in your maw but make sure you stay out of sight. Also make sure you are upwind so your scent doesn't get scent toward whatever you are tracking. This could be some prey or another cat. Watch me."

The russet warrior then slinked back into a hunting crouch, slowly stalking toward the mouse that was digging up at the grass. Movements slow as he waited for the right moment and he did so quickly, pouncing on the prey and killing it swiftly.

Straightening her posture so that she fitted Sorrelflare's description of a proper hunter's crouch, Larkpaw committed it to memory. Hmm, this she could do. All that time spent alone hunting and surviving on beetles or critters had been fine, sure, but eating fresh kill was different. And so was hunting it. No wonder she hadn't been able to catch prey before.

Fiery amber eyes glinted in the dim light as she glanced at her mentor, ears pricking to listen to what he had to say. Her gaze picked up his stealth-ridden movements, and Lark barely let herself blink until he'd finished killing the mouse. A non-committal noise rose in her throat, and she tipped her head slightly to the side, listening for more prey. "You think there'd be another mouse around here somewhere?"

The russet tom buried the prey, humming quietly, "There probably is, try and scent something. With leafbare so close, many prey is trying to quickly gain as much food as they can or many will be hiding away already." It was true, prey hunting before leafbare could always be a hit or miss, though prey tended to be more reckless during this time which made them easier to catch.

They moved toward Larkpaw, "For scenting try remembering the scent of a mouse you have eaten and then just try and focus into your surroundings." Xe then took a seat to let the apprentice try out their skills, though his own eyes were looking around along with his ears.

Nodding at her mentor's explanation, as it made logical sense, Lark pricked her ears for any sounds a critter might make. Cocking her head to the side, amber eyes traveled briefly to Sorrelflare as they explained mouse-scent, and once more was she nodding at xem.

With a lightness in her step and a silence sealing her maw, Larkpaw flattened herself against the ground as Sorrelflare had taught, pupils dilating with nerve-induced excitement as she stalked forward and scented something... that definitely wasn't a mouse. She couldn't even see it either, but oh well. As far as scent goes, it was prey and something smaller than her, so that should count for something. Shaking her head, Lark lunged blindly towards the creature, tackling it and brutally sinking her fangs into it's neck, efficiently killing it off.

"I caught it!" She exclaimed eagerly to her mentor, holding the slimy green thing up with a claw. "I-- What in all the skies is it?"

Sorrelflare ears flicked as he looked at the frog that Larkpaw had caught, tiliting his head, "You just caught a frog Larkpaw." xe hummed tail flicking as he walked over, "Good catch, it's surprsing more good than it looks." Frogs may not have been a top pick of those in the clan, it was often a food that was ate when prey was dwindling, though he personally didn't mind the taste.

Xe hummed lightly, "Let's bury it and see if there is anything else we can catch. With leafbare here we need to try and get as much prey as we can for the clan." Once Sorrelflare said that they waited for Larkpaw to bury the frog and he lead the way from the Mourning Ruins, more into the woods. Hopefully more prey would be present here.

"Frog?" Larkpaw repeated after her mentor, wrinkling her muzzle and sticking out her tongue slightly. After a moment, the lithe she-cat schooled her expression once more into a normal one, tail flicking back and forth. With a shrug, Lark set the slimy green creature on the ground and buried it, amber eyes flicking her back to Sorrelflare.

Once she was done, the young apprentice quickened her step to catch up with him, widening her eyes in an attempt to plead her case to xem. "Could we learn battle training? I want to know how real ShadowClanners fight." A pause here, as she considered something. "If you'd be willing to do that... Please?"

Sorrelflare turned his head toward Larkpaw when she asked to have some battle training, he hummed, we can do some hunting later. I want to make sure my apprentice is well prepared, he turned hummed lightly, "We can just go into battle training. We can finish hunting on a different day, though we will grab the prey before heading back to the camp. Follow me, there is a near by clearing."

Sorrelflare had liked to spend his time in the ShadowClan territory so he often found smaller clearings that he would use to get away, it also would be a good way to teach Larkpaw on how to use the pine trees and the shadows they made to their advantage.

Once xe lead them to said clearing he turned to look at the apprentice, "You don't know any battle moves correct?" His tail flicked, he knew there had been some pervious events that gave apprentices battle training but he didn't know if Larkpaw had been apart of those.

Waiting expectantly for Sorrelflare's answer, Larkpaw couldn't help but let her face split into a wide grin of satisfaction when he turned around to agree with her. Aha, xe hadn't needed much convincing, that was a plus. Who knew, all Larkpaw had to say was please. The word wasn't beyond her, she'd say it graciously any day, but there were very few instances that Lark actually had to say it. Reverting back to reality as Sorrelflare spoke again, the lithe apprentice merely shook her head. "No, I haven't had any proper training yet."

He hummed and nodded, "Very well, I'll tell you some good battle tactics that we can use and get into some moves, we will start with some basic ones then go into more complicated ones."

Xe shook out his fur before he spoke, "Stealth will be your best friend, no matter what territory we go and fight on, being stealthy could let you win the fight. It lets you attack the enemies when they lease expect it." His tail flicked as he waited for Larkpaw to take that information in.

"Another one is using the size of your enemy to your advantage, this usually only works on cats that are large and slower but if you are quick enough also on faster cats. If you are facing someone who is larger but slower than you as well, doing quick attacks will easily let you win the fight."

Larkpaw's face remained stoic and expressionless for the duration of Sorrelflare's speaking, but her tail tip couldn't help but twitch with amusement as her mentor hummed again. Xe seemed to hum a lot, not that it bothered Lark. It was just rather... A quirk she hadn't expected from such an otherwise serious tom. The grey-furred she-cat cast a glance in the direction of the nearest bunch of shadows as Sorrelflare went on to speak of stealth. She could do that. Hide, blend in... Murder in cold blood because it was the only way to survive. The apprentice molly shook her head. She was getting off-topic. But there was one thing that Howler had told her, that Lark would always stick to, no matter what.

'It's them, or you.'

In a fight, an opponent would not pause to play fair. They would not stop to consider that perhaps she was smaller, or weaker, or less trained. So Larkpaw didn't expect herself to pause either. If she had to deliver the killing blow, Lark would do so without hesitation. Her survival depended on it. Amber hues refocused on the larger ShadowClanner that stood before her, and Larkpaw inclined her head as he spoke. Her ears flicked, and Lark nodded at his words. "I understand."
