"Im Crowtooth the windclan deputy. An' yer not supposed ta be here." Him smelling familiar could mean a couple things. Maybe one of her parents, probably the dad, was part of the clan and the mother had dumped her here in hopes the kit would be taken in. Crowtooth knew it was impossible for a molly to hide pregnancy from the clan or explain away missing kits so the scrap wasnt windclan born at least. Regardless the result was the same. Windclan wasnt taking in new cats in winter, focusing on their own many kits.
"Alright kitten, Im pickin' ya up now. Unless ya know somewhere I should take ya Im takin' ya ta the twoleg place, theres lotsa places that'll take ya in there 'cuz windclan cant take ya."

The tom resigned himself to a long walk as he tried to grab the kit by the scruff and start the trip to somewhere the kit could stay and be safe from the trials of winter.

Crowtooth
Windclan Deputy | He/him | 51 Moons
Power Card: Cold Gust

Every time Crowtooth heard about how cats outside the clans lived it really only reinforced his view that they were mostly savages or cowards. Seriously, who could do that to their own kittens?

The story had holes though, and maybe it was a kits poor memory or maybe they were lied to but it didnt change the result. There was no place in windclan for the kitten in the winter, so Crowtooth would need to find a home for them elsewhere.
"Im sorry that happened ta ya kiddo but ya aint from windclan. We track kittens born in the clan an' pregnant queens an' I can tell ya yer not one o' our number, sorry.

An' as I said windclan aint got room fer a rogue kit, so instead Im gonna take ya ta the outskirts ta find a new home if ya dont wanna be a kittypet."
Crowtooth would make sure the kits new home was a good one but it wasnt going to be with a clan, at least not until the kitten was old enough to be an apprentice and could make the journey back to try joining. Even then though unless that time was after spring had come that clan wouldnt be windclan, who was not taking in new mouths to feed that werent already their own.

Grabbing Smallkit by the scruff and not letting them escape Crowtooth set off for the long walk, eyes open for candidates to take in the kitten.

(unless you have moonravens permission or smallkit has been on the windclan allegiances in the past and then gone missing, smallkit was not born in windclan. As neither is the case smallkit is a rogue kit and windclan is not taking in rogues so crowtooth is going to find smallkit an alternate home)

Deadmoon's general lack of social confidence needed only this to come around like a truck and smack her in the face, and her ears flattened at the sheer vitriol in the apprentice-kit's voice. So he was still hung up on the kit thing. Ok. It felt....very wrong, to be honest. Taking him from the nursery, calling him Jaggedkit, when they were about to go wandering around the territory. But, well, for peace? For not ruining Snowybreeze's family more than she already had done? Jaggedkit it was.

Stars, she hadn't even considered how hard this all must be for Snowybreeze. His kits, but not all of them, grown up and made apprentices. But not all of them, and some of them not even happy about it. He was probably tearing his fur out with worry, he was always so worried anyway. He certainly didn't need one of his kits up in arms about a horrid mentor. Not that there was much Deadmoon could do to make herself a better mentor at this point. She was always going to be unable to chase rabbits, and she was unlikely to ever be more than an adequate sparring partner. Then again, Snowybreeze could probably handle the latter himself. His size alone made him difficult to deal with in battle.

So really Deadmoon just needed to suck it up, and not cause more problems than she already had done by looking all eager and getting Jaggedpaw, no, Jaggedkit she was going to have to start thinking of him like that lest she slip up, assigned as her apprentice. Still smarting a bit at Jaggedkit's sharp tongue, Deadmoon was expecting to be flatly denied, and told to get lost. So the agreement, especially with a side of less anger, was a surprise. A pleasant one, but a surprise nonetheless. Her ears perked up from their cowed position, and a bit of a smile worked its way onto her face. Jaggedkit would surely enjoy the territory, every new apprentice did, and then he'd be more willing to do future training! Maybe hope wasn't lost.

And then......oh. Oh. OH. His mom. Deadmoon's chest felt like it was folding in on itself. His mom. Shouldn't this be something Snowybreeze did with them? Surely he would have wanted to take his kits to visit Berryfrost! She didn't want to....what? Steal that from him? But he couldn't take all the kids anyway, not with Frostkit still nursery-bound. So was there really any harm in taking Jaggedkit? She could be sensitive for a bit, let him do his thing and try not to be an emotionally useless clod. Surely she could manage it for one visit. She'd left things for Berryfrost herself, when she was on the tour with Mistypaw. So why did it feel so weird now? Probably the reminder that, however much she might care about them, the kits and Berryfrost really weren't hers to care about. Then again most cats weren't and she worried over them anyway, so who really knew!

Focus. Jaggedpaw. Territory tour. You've got yourself a deal, Jagged....kit. she mewed, a bit of a lighter tone slipping into her voice. Sue her, she was excited to show him the territory! It was always fun to show apprentices the big world outside of camp, and Deadmoon was especially desperate to find out what made this particular young cat tick. So yes, she was kind of embarrassingly excited. We're going to the Shadowclan border first, gotta make sure those frog-munchers aren't up to no good again! She definitely wasn't going to tell him the scary stories about pelts at the border. Duckpaw had needed a bit of a tone down, a reality check. Jaggedpaw.....didn't really need help being dour.

The snow packed ground beneath his paws crunched upon under paw as he sprinted from one dead brush to another. What had started as the world's most grumpiest hike ever had turned into a how fast can I run and till how far. Jaggedpaw had trailed behind Deadmoon for the first stretch of their territory tour trying to act as miserable as possible because if he acted long enough he would start to feel it. He couldn't be happy after all, he was supposed to be doing this with his twin not by himself with this old lady over here. It had become increasingly harder to keep a frown planted on his face the further they got out into the territory. The first thing that struck Jaggedpaw was how vast the territory was. Hills upon hills of land. At one point of their walk he had just stood and stared, gawking at his surroundings, wide eyed and everything but caught himself before deadmoon could see and faked a scowl again.

There were so many scents, fresher than the fresh kill pile. It was significantly more quiet too, no sounds of his clanmates constant chatter just the occasional bird and the whistling wind. He liked it.

At one point Jaggedpaw completely forgot he was supposed to be following deadmoon and instead decided he'd rather run towards what he thought was a rabbit in the distance. He took off, sprinting across the body of white, his scowl immediately falling off his face completely replaced by a toothy smile. The wind whipped through his thick fur and honestly Jaggedpaw could have kept running forever. He only stopped running when the territory began to change. Slowing his pace to a stop he stared ahead were Hills upon hills of snow changed to some other type of land he didn't recognize. More trees for a start and it was significantly more shaded.

Not to brag, but Deadmoon was winning. Jaggedpaw's mood had improved significantly after leaving camp, with the fresh meadow air invigorating him in a way few other things could manage. His plodding stride had become noticeably quicker and lighter as they'd progressed, less STOMP STOMP STOMP and more pitter patter pitter patter. Though, whenever she turned around to check on him, there was always a scowl ready on his face. Ok so maybe she wasn't totally winning, but she was doing a much better job of being a mentor than she had been before because at least the grumpy little child had been convinced to do some training. Just let her have her nothing success, alright??

ANDDDD there he went. Deadmoon hadn't expected Jaggedpaw to take off like that, while he wasn't exactly a stickler for rules it seemed mighty impulsive for a cat who, in her experience, seemed to enjoy being in control. He wanted to control the apprentice ceremony thing, he wanted everything to be just right. But apparently the meadow and scents had overtaken his restraint, and the kit-apprentice was now haring across the snow to who knows where. Wait. Shoot. The child of her very dear friend was running off to places unknown, in the general direction of the Shadowclan border. PANIC.

Deadmoon got her own rear in gear, chasing after Jaggedpaw as best as she could. She was more successful in this endeavor than expected, mostly because the kid still had kit legs and even though she wasn't a good runner by adult standards, she could still catch up to a damn kit. Wait. Young apprentice. Whatever. Such distinctions were such a mess right now, especially with HER specific mentee. Perhaps she should just call him child. Actually, that kind of worked. Deadmoon's kiddo, child, etc. That would suffice.

Skidding to a stop and maybe perhaps totally not slipping on the snow, Deadmoon called out to Jaggedkit. Kiddo! You really took off! It was half a scold, half a disbelieving compliment. It was a bit impressive, but also monumentally stupid when he didn't actually know where the damn borders were. Though in theory he should be able to scent them. Before you go any farther, we're right by the Shadowclan border. Dawnstar's over there, one of the older leaders. After Twilightstar, of course. She used to be a bit nuts no need to go into the specifics But she's mellowed out a bit. In general, Shadowclan is one of the more ruthless clans, so watch out for them. They're sneaky frogs, that's for sure. That should be enough for him to get the.....idea of Shadowclan. As much as she felt chill saying without giving him nightmares, anyway. If he had question she was welcome to ask, but if he didn't have anything she'd start strolling in the direction of Thunderclan, at least till Jaggedpaw took off again. @burntToast

~ BRIARSPLASH ~
stocky, large, & fluffy dilute gray tortie she-cat with goldish-green eyes; just a scratch | killer aptitude t1
[ shadowclan enforcer | she-cat | 29 moons | abrasive, standoffish, loyal ]

~

The Enforcer bounded in with a pinched expression, having tried to clear her thoughts as much as she could on the journey over. Hillstrider and Hollowpaw should be with her, though she hadn't bothered to cast a glance over her shoulder. Not when she'd have to see those yellow eyes again.

Coming to a halt, Briarsplash paused, observing the border. It'd been awhile since she'd last come here. The moorlands met the marshlands here, an eerie sense about the place from the way the wind whispered and curled along the gnarled trees. A true ShadowClan cat would feel at home in the darkness cast by the angled sunbeams above — which is why she almost found it humorous as she turned around, Hillstrider's vibrant orange pelt sticking out like a bright flower amidst weeds. It reminded her a bit of Bleedingpaw, her apprentice, and how the young tom often rolled around in dust and mud to hide his golden pelt from view when they trained stealth. He'd been pleasantly surprising her since their first training session. The associated memory almost softened her gaze for a moment — almost. But it was quickly back to steely business as she cleared her throat once more after the patrol had caught their breath.

"Alright. We'll go on 'n mark this, same as usual. Look out for any small details 'n yell if you see something. Don't go far."

With her simple instructions out of the way, Briarsplash glanced between the two ShadowClanners to make sure they'd heard — and for a moment, Briar felt her own gaze linger a little too long on the orange tabby warrior, nearly the same as he'd done to her. Realizing what she was doing, she stiffly straightened up and turned away, pawsteps oddly heavy as she began to patrol the WindClan border without another word.

It took his mentor- grandma, older figure he was supposed to train under to catch up to him and when she did the brown she cat slipped. Jaggedpaw pretended not to notice, better for the both of them if he ignored most of deadmoon's slip ups or none impressive actions. Instead he stared intently towards the territory across from him. Part of him had expected to see a visible border, like a barrier of sorts, separating the two territories but what he saw was just land. How was he supposed to know where the border began and ended. His nose twitched as he took in the different scents, one was much more muddier and some kind of plant he didn't recognise. It certainly wasn't windclan but if this was the windclan and shadowclan border he assumed it must be shadowclan.

Jaggedpaw spared deadmoon a glance as she spoke. That was the second time he'd heard the name Dawnstar, the first time being from Twighlightstar herself. According to his leader, Dawnstar was a “mean toad” whatever a toad was. Deadmoon basically said the same thing. Apparently dawnstar's clan was known to be ruthless and dangerous. Well then after he was done his training he'd make sure windclan was feared more than shadowclan or atleast himself. "I don't know what a frog is but it doesn't sound scary or dangerous at all. I bet I could take on a shadowclanner any day" their was no doubt in his words, he had won a few fights with his brother and other kits were mostly too scared to fight him. That was enough to tell Jaggedpaw that he was probably super epically strong and a great fighter already. Little did he know, the main reason others avoided him was the rumour about him and his siblings being "monsters".

Jaggedpaw watched as his mentor started walking away to the next location and at first he debated just letting her go and see how long it takes her to notice he didn't follow her, he could just run of right now. He doubted such an old she cat like deadmoon could catch him anyway the only thing keeping him from doing so was knowing he needed to get acquainted with his territory and to do so he needed someone who knew how to get around. Sadly that was his mentor. With a reluctant sigh, Jaggedpaw trudged through the snow after deadmoon picking up some pace to keep up with her

Hillstrider trotted alongside Briarsplash as they made their way out to the border they shared with WindClan, his cheery demeanor still prevalent despite the biting winds that occasionally sliced through the forest.

She seemed intent on ignoring him for some reason, which was totally not tubular! Nah, if they were gonna be on a patrol together, they gotta do it together! Incredibly sound logic, Hillstrider. Thank you, Hillstrider!

"What if we all went together?" Hillstrider offered. "It's not a huge border--we'll get it done in no time!" The orange warrior gave Briarsplash a big grin, only utilizing 10% of his Uber Adorable Mega Big Eyes to convince her.

Hollowpaw
‘The Hauntress’

Shadow Fiend: Active
[ black and white cat, blue and amber eyes. face and shoulder scarring. | she/they ]

[ #VGCHollow ]
➢ Hollowpaw kept quiet the entire journey, she simply had nothing to add and well, she wouldn't complain about the silence. As the trio neared the border, she slipped to the back, eyes on the prowl for anything out of the norm. Windclan. It reeked of them. It almost made Hollowpaw flinch in it's sudden appearance, alas, she held it together. Ah, mark and leave. Simple. The could separate or stay in a group, it wasn't a big deal because it wasn't like a battle patrol was roaming the area charging for their throat.

The Enforcer's eyes lingered on the orange Warrior far too long in the Hauntress' opinion, something was under the surface, one that Hollowpaw had zero intention on figuring out. Hillstrider wanted them to work as a team... Hollowpaw felt her own bubble of spite build within. They could absolutely get this done faster if they split up. So that's what she did, who needed to follow orders?

Though they did stick to the shadows, they found nothing strange after leaving the other two without a word. The winds send a shiver down her spine as the cold air hit her ruthlessly. How the hell did the other clan stand this? Hollowpaw (internally) laughs at her own question, bi-colored eyes scanning the visible sections of moorland, even with the willow trees blocking her view a fair bit... She felt like something was watching her, though that was only due to her own lingering thoughts and nightmares...

[ Shadow Fiend: Inactive ]

Finding a sort of calm as she made sure to mark each part of the area they roamed, it was nice. Too nice for their liking. Hollowpaw was quick to withdraw from the darkness, she had gone the opposite direction from them, she would need to regroup; but that was simple enough. Speaking would close the distance faster. Her voice is husky and void of a true tell of faint irritation, coming out sounding as if she was exhausted if anything. "This area is complete. Which one is next? Tell me where to go and I'll do it..." Her voice faded off into the frozen air, she didn't like the large amount of visible breath it made.. Her eyes remain fixed on Briarsplash, awaiting further action.

[ I want to say sorry for how delayed this has been, I am so sorry TwT

~ BRIARSPLASH ~
stocky, large, & fluffy dilute gray tortie she-cat with goldish-green eyes; just a scratch | killer aptitude t1
[ shadowclan enforcer | she-cat | 29 moons | abrasive, standoffish, loyal ]

~

Briarsplash cringed as, right when she turned away, she heard Hillstrider's pawsteps bounding over to her. The she-cat bit her tongue, forcing her expression to be as neutral as possible, before turning to the handsome orange tom behind her.

"No, it'll be much more efficient if we—" she began, but cut herself off. Hollowpaw was already gone, dutifully marking the border, leaving her alone with Hillstrider and The Eyes™. The ones that made her throat tight and her tongue feel heavy, as if she'd suddenly forgotten how to speak. Briarsplash found her voice faltering and it trailed off into a long sigh, tearing her gaze away with a slight scowl. Whatever strange emotions were fluttering her chest made her irrationally... angry. And yet she couldn't find herself wanting to tell the infuriatingly-nice tom to go away. He was the only one who'd ever really been friendly to her, after all, in a manner beyond simple Clanmate alliances. And as much as her own body warred against it, part of her didn't want to reject it. At least, not entirely.

"...Fine," she growled, though it held no malice — only frustration at herself. Get it together! With a lash of her tail, she nodded stiffly to Hillstrider, internally cursing herself at being unable to have a better grasp on whatever in StarClan's name she was feeling. "Come on. We're wasting daylight." Briskly, she whirled around, trying to keep a few pawsteps ahead, trying to ignore the odd prickle in her skin with his proximity as she marked the border. Once or twice she glanced over at Hillstrider, starting to part her jaws as if to speak — but then promptly snapped them shut, turning away.

The Enforcer had been temporarily lost in thought as they'd continued and stiffened in surprise when Hollowpaw suddenly leaked from the shadows. Wha? Had she just not been paying that much attention for the apprentice to sneak up on her like that? Shaking out her fluffy pelt, Briarsplash's eyes narrowed and she gave a stiff nod, a bit too distracted to pay much mind to Hollowpaw's exhausted tone; the apprentice had done her work, and she'd just have to trust that it'd been done well. At least she'd taken initiative and gone off without needing to be told twice; that was a bonus in the Enforcer's book.

"We should've covered the rest," she meowed gruffly, shooting Hillstrider a look as if to make sure he'd done his part. Not that she had been half-staring or anything, no. "Nothing to report, it seems? Good. Let's head back out before we're too late."

With a flick of her plumed tail, Briarsplash led way back to camp, except this time she subconsciously let her pawsteps fall back just a bit... perhaps letting Hillstrider run alongside her instead of behind, if he so wished.

[ @Fade @Mica - wanted to get this in and reported ehehe ]
