God... He wasn't ready for all this again. Heavy eyes staring off in the distance, the large tom pulled himself towards Shadowledge. He didn't want to do this. He could hardly do this. The feelings that he thought had vanished had now reappeared and hit him like a truck. Returning back to the surface and making a mess out of him once more. The urge to go back to sleep and to ignore it all was strong, but he knew he had to keep going. For the clan. Besides he had bailed out long enough. It was time to get back to it all.
Lifting his gaze, he washed the look from his marred face and spoke.

Everything now sorted out, he stepped to the side and waited for Palepaw and Yellowpaw to approach him. The kids needed the extra experience, so why not give it to them on a golden platter. Besides he secretly enjoyed the company on Yellowpaw, the kid was certainly... Something else... to put it simply. He had a bit of a temper, but didn't we all? Ugh, he was getting sidetracked again. Time to focus.

Oh, goody. More time to spend with mr. Stupidface. (Okay, he didn't have enough time to come up with a good insult. Still.) Oh well, at least he wasn't going to be tortured alone. Yellowpaw padded up to Vulturefang and waited for Palepaw to show up.

The term of condescending endearment meant nothing to her and she duly ignored it in favor of receiving her patrol assignment. Ah, only a partner to tag along: Flamegaze. Bitterbane didn't know her well, a sentiment that was sorely true for many of her clanmates. She hoped the small talk she would attempt to make wouldn't be unbearable for her patrol mate, though she knew she'd shut her mouth if she realized she was bothering somebody.

Obligations to do a proper job not found (whatever the mistakes of those prior, they didn't concern her), Bitterbane took up the laborious position of teetering on her tiptoes in search of Flamegaze; her recollection told her that she was a thin tortoiseshell, easy to spot. While she couldn't bring herself to lovingly care (WindClan would always be the least of her worries whenever Twilightstar was concerned) for a border patrol, she knew many of her clanmates adored punctuality, especially with their deputy breathing down their necks. Supposedly. If not for the scars, Bitterbane would never have taken Vulturefang seriously what with his flirtatious manner.

Not catching immediate sight of her clanmate, Bitterbane huffed, slumped down, and settled on her haunches to wait for her. No worries. Flamegaze would show soon enough; besides, her mind was hyperbolically stretching every fractional second waited into a moon's worth of impatience. In other words, she was being irrational.

Batflight listened intently as Vulturefang assigned patrols. Now that her leg was feeling better, she was eager to get back to hunting.

To her mild disappointment, she was assigned yet another border patrol. And in Saltmeadow Marsh? She thanked StarClan that it hadn't been raining much despite the leafbare cold - the last thing she wanted was to be trudging through mud. It looked like she'd have to do some hunting on her own time.
She perked up when she heard who her patrol partner was. Dreamingbloom! At least she'd be in good company, and RiverClan wasn't really any trouble with Larkkit in recent command.

She noted that Palepaw was being brought along on a hunting patrol with Vulturefang. Lucky thing! Training from the deputy himself! She was glad they'd just gone over the hunting crouch together during her stealth training, it would give Palepaw a nice head start while learning. She'd been a quick study when it came to staying quiet - Batflight didn't have any doubts she'd pick up hunting quickly enough with those light paws of her's.

Putting the thoughts of her apprentice aside, she turned her focus back to her own patrol.
"Dreamingbloom!" Batflight chirped in greeting, trotting towards her. "Ready to head off?"

The young apprentice's ears pricked when she heard Vukturefang call for patrols. Would she be placed on one? She really hoped so! Excitement shimmering in her eyes, she glanced over at Batty when she got assigned a patrol. Oo, a border patrol? Palepaw quickly shot her mentor an encouraging grin.

Then, it came to hunting patrols, aaand.. she was going hunting with the deputy and Yellowpaw! That's exciting. Though she'd never practiced the attack on prey before, she knew the crouch from her training, and she knew how to be stealthy. So this shouldn't be too hard. Smiling, she bounded over to her patrolmates. "Ready to go!" she mewed eagerly. Her bright blue eyes briefly surveyed Vulturefang and Yellowpaw. The deputy was pretty massive and scarred, while Yellowpaw was pretty tall as well.

This meant she was the smallest here, but oh well. Palepaw wouldn't let herself be intimidated by height. Hopefully these two were nice!

Lynxshade padded up to the group of cats gathered in front of the deputy, and when her name was called she dipped her head and glanced around for her two companions. Where were Rattail and Hawkgrowl? Somewhat, frustration hovered in Lynxshade's head for not having been chosen as patrol leader. Again.

She was sure enough she had proved her worth over and over again, so why hadn't the deputy still noticed that? Well, anyway. I'll just have to make sure Shadowclan doesn't starve this leaf-bare.
"Rattail! Hawkgrowl!" She called, tail straight to make herself more visible. If those two didn't show up soon, she'd have to make up for their absence.

Listening to the deputy, Dreamingbloom licked her chest then looked around for Batflight, her eyes lighting up once she sees them. "I'm ready! How's your leg?" She asked, standing up and padded a few steps away and stopping to wait for Batflight.

Yellowpaw had started washing his nose before Palepaw arrived. His nose still kinda hurt, but at least it reminded him that he had to murder thunderclan eventually. As Palepaw came, Yellowpaw put his paw on the ground. Hmm. He kind of wanted to call her short. It would've been funny.

Oh, wait, did Palepaw actually want to go with Fleshface? Did she even know what she was getting into? Hmph. Maybe Palepaw should've been Vulturefang's apprentice. That would be nice. If that implied his old mentor was there. Drippingpelt was 99 times as good as Vulturefang as a mentor.

Yellowpaw stared at Palepaw, vaguely pitifully. The short cat doesn't know who they're going with, do they?
