Bored bored bored bored bored- Oh patrol! Not bored.
Quickly scrabbling to haul himself to his paws (and only falling over once in the process) Bleedingpaw quickly wobbled over to join the growing group not slowed down at all and sat at attention. At this point it didnt even matter what type of patrol it was, as long as it was something he was in.
Rookfire was here too and Rookfire was decent, though on the flip side the tom knew little to nothing about Owlthroat.
He was an enforcer though, so he had to be strong and not stupid, which was good enough for the golden bengal.
Ah! Patrols! He'd been hoping to be put on a hunting patrol, so he was in luck. And, he wasn't back on that drab ThunderClan border - maybe he wasn't cursed. Rockjaw... That was one of the new Medicine aids, right? Considering the rank, he was surely a competent warrior - which was something Newtbelly was thankful for, as they had two apprentices with them. He didn't know either of them, but he supposed he'd know more about them soon. Hopefully they knew how to hunt - though, from Dawnstar's words, it seemed that Weepingpaw was young. He didn't mind teaching the 'paw if he needed to.
Newtbelly snaked his way forward, waiting for his patrolmates.

Patrol time, the weather was biting. Times like this Owlthroat remained thankful for his thick fur pelt. Gorsenose, Grottopaw and Honeybreeze. The tom couldn’t say he’d yet had the pleasure of interaction with any of the three, he heeded Mistlewhisker’s words about taking extra caution for Grottopaw with the cold. He doubted Dawnstar would be mighty impressed if Owlthroat returned the youngster frozen. His head swivelled around, his patrol mates were yet to arrive.
He wasn’t in a particularly pleasant mood, the cold was far too much for him. On Top of that he wasn’t thrilled to be hunting, he’d much rather be prowling the borders. His size made it difficult for him at times, he lacked the stealth that many of the other Shadowclanners carried. But especially so in Leafbare, the prey always seemed a lot more on edge. More attentive to the forest around them, not careless and dozy with full bellies. Similar to the cats themselves he supposed. He’d have to rely on his wit whilst out and about rather than his poor speed or stealth, keep his nose to the floor instead through hope of finding a burrow or such. He found himself shuffling his paws underneath him, hoping that the others would be relatively punctual. His face was already scrunching and turning somewhat sour.
Tuftedtusk was heading to the Windclan border according to their deputy, with Fishpaw in tow. A quiet border, he couldn’t help but find himself envious of his mate. A lazier patrol, but one just as essential. However Owlthroat reckoned the biting air would be much worse over there, he didn’t understand how the Windclan cats coped with the exposure. They didn’t have much cover in their territory, wide open spaces to catch a chill. But Tuftedtusk’s coat was thick like his own, not quite as long but it should be enough to provide cover. He wouldn’t have trouble with Fishpaw either, the kid did what was asked without much complaint. Owlthroat’s ear twitched idly as his mind kept itself preoccupied.
he had been wondering when patrols would be sent out, lingering at the edge of camp with his gaze halfhearedly searching for mistlewhisker. when she called for patrols, opening the whole thing with some sort of motivational speech, the former medicine cat made his way closer to the grimpeak to listen. with herb patrols obviously off the table, hunting or border patrols were pretty much the only thing left for him to participate in. even if it didnt make sense to ban him from herb patrols simply because of his demotion. he hadnt done anything wrong?? hadnt lostspark continued to attend herb patrols after stepping down? somehow, rookfire doubted he had gotten to hear the whole story. mossfreckle mustve spun some elaborate lie that effectively ruined his reputition. but he could come back from it. he would come back from it.
the deputy moved over hunting patrols without slipping his name into the sequences of names, some more familiar than others. but luckily once border patrols rolled around, his name fell. earlier than expected.
rookfires eyes narrowed, searching for the reason in mistlewhiskers eyes, not that he wasnt happy to get to lead a patrol again. it was just. odd. having briarsplash assigned under him despite the older warrior bearing a higher rank than him. it felt like some weird conspiracy. its a trap thunderclan border. no no no they wouldnt risk it, not by thunderclans border. theyre in on it they wouldnt do it like this-
the slight grinding of teeth on teeth only visible in his ears, rookfire gave a nod before craning his neck in search of the newly named warrior and briarsplash. perhaps it was a chance. to prove himself worthy. that approach did little to ease his nerves given the whispers nipping at his mind, but after all, rookfire was nothing if not a optimist.
Guh-, the hell was happening? Patrol? Stars, why her? She could fall asleep standing up right now. The black tabby stood and padded up to her new patrolmates.

Longstep huffed, padding up to his patrolmates without a word. Hunting? Should be easy enough. The spotted tabby tomcat took a moment to smooth down his fur, oughta make a good first impression, right?

Watch Grottopaw? Excuse her, he didn't NEED watching, thanks very much. He was perfectly capable of minding himself. He left his usual spot near Mother's den and approached his patrolmates, giving each of them a scrutinizing look - the ones that had already shown, at least.
Owlthroat was an Enforcer, so the tom was familiar to him, and he made a mental note to go bother him about that process later. Gorsenose sounded like a bunny name, and Honeybreeze also toed that line. He eyed the former critically for a moment before choosing to stand silently near Owlthroat. This would be his first patrol as well as his first experience with hunting. Hopefully one of them would take the initiative to teach him.

Giving a nod to Mistlewhisker and passing his mate with a loud purr, he would sit by the entrance to camp. Fishpaw and Moonstep, eh? He hadn't worked with them before and he hoped they would be compliant and non-confrontational. Well, he could only wait for them to arrive he assumed.

Briarsplash's whisker brow rose, tilting her head; assigned to a border patrol was no surprise, but for Rookfire to be leading it? And her under his watch? It was a curious thing, and at first, she felt a flare of confused frustration — what, had she not proved herself worthy enough with all the patrols she'd led? What was the big idea?
Then, upon taking a moment to actually think, the Enforcer narrowed her eyes. Perhaps this was a test for Rookfire; it was no secret by his looks and work that the dark-pelted warrior desired to be among ShadowClan's upper ranks again. And since his role as an herbalist was no longer possible, that meant he was going to strive to at least be an Enforcer again. It still felt... weird, to have to follow under a younger cat now, and wounded her pride a bit. Not that she would show that to Mistlewhisker, of course — the reliable deputy had clearly done this for a reason.
Giving her ruffled chest fur a quick lick, the fluffy she-cat rose to her paws and padded over to Rookfire. She could respect the deputy's decision to give Rookfire a chance to lead, but it didn't mean she'd have to like following along. Still, she didn't hold contempt for the cat — Briarsplash didn't think of Mossfreckle's strange dream as anything that Rookfire should've been demoted over when no evidence had incriminated him. He had been doing a fine enough job. Saved her life. Then again, she didn't pay that much mind to StarClan's signs, so she knew other cats more faithful than she would be more careful. That was the main reason that she didn't let any bitterness leak into her words, though they remained terse as usual.
"...Hi," she grunted, giving Rookfire a nod. More than she gave most cats. It was clear she was also surprised, like him, for him to be leading. But she'd at least grown a respect for the ex-healer and was also curious, in a way, to see how he'd perform after all that had happened.
Curling her plumed tail over large paws, the Enforcer sat down beside Rookfire and waited for Pondlily to arrive.
Pondlily led the way back into camp, her head and tail held high. This was the first patrol she was leader of, and it had been successful. Glancing over her shoulders to be sure that Cloverpaw and Quillpaw were following her, the blue-gray mackerel tabby made her way over to Sleepysunrise.
The warrior set down her herbs at the black-and-white Medicine Cat's paws that way she could speak. ''We had no trouble harvesting the herbs,'' Pondlily mewed, inclining her head toward Sleepysunrise. ''Overall, we collected six broom and six uprooted chervil.''

bringing up the rear of the patrol, quillpaw swiftly makes his way towards his sister. "here," he mutters, dropping the herbs at her paws. with that done, he offers a small nod before padding away.
the scarred apprentice had lagged a bit behind her patrolmates, and quickly sped up her pace as she trotted back to camp, dropping the herbs she had collected at her paws and pushing them over to sleepysunrise. cloverpaw didn't say anything as there was no need, and awaited the medicine cat to dismiss them.

Shivering a non-negligible amount, Shrewstep returned to camp with the lumpy root grasped firmly between his jaws. The sticks were also in his maw, but they were of a more portable nature, and so did not distort his features as dramatically as his more important find. Dropping it to the ground and assuming the apprentices would deposit their own finds, he purred Hiya Sunrise! quirking a brow at the young molly. How would she react to the nickname, that was the question. Probably wouldn't care too much, she was Dawnstar's kin so ignoring it was probably as good as he could hope for. They were all such sticks in the mud.
It's mighty cold out there, as I'm sure you've noticed he began but as I am a complete professional a complete and baldfaced lie, but he said it charmingly enough that it shouldn't give offense I was able to find one of these lumpy fellows he pawed the frozen root and dig it up, as my very own personal gift to you. And because I don't want to be exiled, of course! A small chuckle, and a wave of his paw at the kids. And I'm sure these kids have found something or other as well. They had sticks and some kind of roots at least.

Her fur bristled visibly when the puny warrior came and greeted her with a partial name; as if they were friends, as if she was an outsider. The usually blank-faced medic let her teeth show in a brief flash, brows knitting. Did he think she was no better than an outsider? Did her consider her an outsider? Did other think so too? A tense feeling came to her paws as repeated voices mocked her fate. Reduced to the world's scum; an outsider, a nothing. A failure, if not even the weakest of warriors could stand to say her full name.
Her head raised and brows twitched. He was a smooth talker, it looked like; or thought himself to be, speaking as if he hadn't done a thing wrong. She regarded his findings. Of course she knew the weather was dire and herbs were difficult to come by, but with his jab she had to return her own; "You could have done better."
She stated dryly, eyes then turning to Wisppaw. Look at that, Shrewstep was showed up by an apprentice. Unsurprising. She nodded for Muddypaw's dismissal, then turned her eyes on Shrewstep again. "Where is Hawkpaw?"
roachflare made his way back to camp with both apprentices assigned to him, comfrey clutched tightly by fangs like ice crystals. bug was late oh stars he was late. quickly, the tortoiseshell tom dropped his herbs by sleepysunrises paws with a curt nod. "sorry 'm late" he muttered before scurrying off.

Fishpaw trotted behind rouchflare holding the Three comfrey in her maw " I think I got enough, its not much, but I hope it helps....Also sorry for being a tad late" fishpaw meowed as she set down the herbs and waited to be dismissed

Muddypaw clumsily trotted into camp soon after the rest of her patrol. Despite the patrol leader's apologies, Muddypaw didn't seem to notice their lateness. "Here ya go!" She mewed, placing the broom she had gathered down, a large, proud grin on the apprentice's face. She was happy that she could do somethin with herbs! it wasn't too much, but it was good experience to at least know how they smell!

This patrol was a lot less problematic than the previous one, though the unsettling feeling remained. Seen as an outsider. What sort of failure did she have to be for that low-life to think that. What kind of weakling did Miss Grandmama think her to be? She couldn't let her grandmother see this. Her eyes settled on Roachflare and the rest of his patrol; they were cutting it awfully close and Sleepysunrise had half a mind about sending them back out, but bit her tongue and let them go. They weren't late yet.
midnight trotted into camp, sure mudslide and whoever else (was he a bad warrior for forgetting their name?) was with them would be close behind, letting his herbs fall out of his maw and onto the icy ground before sleepysunrise before giving the young medicine cat a grin and moving on.
Her tail was high behind her as she approached the medicine cat. How in the world had she managed to get on so many patrols? The dropped her findings at the smaller cats paws before padding off.

Returning from putting away the other patrols' findings, she arrived just in time to see Midnightsun followed by Mudslide return. "Nightpaw?"

The she-cat stifled a huff. Jeez, was the apprentice never there when they were needed? She made her way back to Sleepysunrise, striped tail flicking its tip. She gave the medic a shake of her head. "Was. But not." He was there, at first, actually showed up and participated in the patrol, but he didn't seem to have the sense to report it.
"Look?" She asked, voice terribly hoarse. As much as she definitely didn't want to go back into the cold, all she wanted was to warm up actually, having an apprentice get lost so often had to be a concern. So, if she had to go, she would.
