Snapjaw sat in camp, dark hazel eyes narrowed against the sun reflecting off small patches of stubborn ice, refusing to . The weather had finally been calm for a while, but Snap didn't trust it'd stay. Today there was a gentle breeze, but it wasn't too bad, barely penetrating the large Riverclan warrior's fur.

She was down to two from seven. Her whiskers twitched as she thought about it. Somehow the missing five hurt more than Blizzardkit's death- at least she knew where Blizzardkit was. Snap's tired gaze swept over camp, wondering who the next doomed child of hers would be. That's when her gaze fell on Asterpaw.

He'd just been made an apprentice recently, had he started his training? She hadn't really made much effort to be around camp much since Lilyglide went missing, a twinge of guilt clawed at her stomach as she shot a quick glance down to her paws before returning her gaze to him.

She stood, padding toward him. She flashed a small tired smile, this was probably the most affection a cat could hope to get out of Snapjaw.

"Hey- Congrats on being made an apprentice, I'm proud of you" They said with a nod and a flick of their tail.

"Have you started your training? My ma' started my training the night i was apprenticed" She said followed by a dry laugh. Between overworking Snap and her sister and neglecting their emotional needs, her experience with her mother had been less that decent. Snapjaw hesitated for a moment, realizing that she was almost doing the same thing her mother had done to her. The warrior's whiskers twitched as she looked on at him silently before speaking once more.

"How... have you been doing? like... I dunno... I know it's... a lot to lose-" She paused, swallowing hard. Stars this was uncomfortable.

"...to lose a parent and... several... siblings-" She murmured, stepping forward to nudge his cheek with her nose before stepping back, waiting for his response.

Asterpaw was sitting in the clearing, taking some time to think. He was dealing with grief. Mum was gone and so were most of his siblings. They all should have been there and gotten apprenticed right alongside him, but they didn't. Now, Aster didn't want to dwell on the sad stuff, so he thought about his mentor! They hadn't done anything yet but it would be soooo cool to learn about becoming a warrior.

He looked up when Mama padded over to him, his tail flicking excitedly. He hadn't talked to her in FOREVER! She was talking about how she was proud - YAY! Aster was makin' Mama happy, even if it was just a little.

"I haven't started yet, but I like my mentor. He's cool!" He watched as Mama seemed to prepare herself to talk again, and he took a deep breath.

She was asking about Mum and his siblings. He didn't want to really talk about that, but it was Mama and she was asking. He could answer her.

"It's... strange. I keep looking around for them, but they aren't there. I wanted Mum to see me become an apprentice, but obviously, that didn't happen."

Aster wanted that to happen, but he couldn't always get what he wanted.

Snapjaw's gaze softened slightly "I get ya, I'm glad you like your mentor, I know you'll do great things Aster, If you ever want extra training never be afraid to ask, I'd love to take you out training" She said softly with a sigh, listening to his response "I know kiddo- I get that" she sat down beside him, neatly wrapping her tail around him.

"It was the same for me ya know- sorta at least-" a dry laugh escaped the she-cat's maw as she looked down at her son "My ma couldn't be damned to even show up for my ceremonies" She murmured with a sigh "Yeah- That's... fair honestly. I still find myself expecting to-" Her breath caught in her throat, Snap slowly exhaled before continuing.

"I expect to see Lils in our nest" She said, brows furrowed. The Riverclan warrior shook the thought from her head "I don't know when it stops- if it does- Sometimes i still expect your grandfather to just walk into camp, and he died WAY back when I was still an apprentice- but I promise it at least feels... more... normal... eventually." She sighed softly "Well- 'normal' for lack of better word" Snapjaw added quietly.

Asterpaw listened to Mama, shifting his paws slightly. It was nice to hear that maybe it wouldn't hurt as much. Because, right now, it always felt like someone was stabbing his heart every time he thought of them. He wanted the pain to go away.

"I... I don't want to forget..." he admitted. Aster worried that one day he'd forget Mum's face or what his siblings sounded like. That was all he had left of them.
