Fennelheart was wee-bit amused,” What you can see is only a forth of the territory. And each clan has about the same amount of territory as us.”
His eyes grew wider as he gazed around. "Cool!" Aspenpaw meowed, quite loudly, in contrast of his usual self.

Dawnfrost couldn't help but admire Owlflame's unique style in speech delivery. There was a snarky flare to it, which Dawnfrost liked, yet Owlflame still managed to keep that relaxed tone in her voice no matter how sardonic it got. Dawnfrost was always attracted to artistic felines; believing that the more artistic they are, the more intelligent a cat is. It takes quick wit to keep a conversation like their's going, and the bengal was proud of how far they’ve gotten without breaking the flow. She also took note of Owlflame’s confidence, which is always attractive in a cat. She felt almost as if she were dreaming. The relaxing atmosphere, the pleasant conversation, all that with the most attractive she-cat she ever laid eyes on. It was definitely thrilling. Her icy blue eyes couldn't help but sneak a few flirtatious glances at her beautiful clanmate. She tried to imagine what their life would have been like if they’d met sooner. Was Owlflame even the same back then? Had she always been this cocky and flirtatious? Obviously not always, for instance, Dawnfrost wasn't always so confident. She used to never be so outspoken and sarcastic, in fact she rarely spoke until her mentor pushed her to. Nonetheless, she has always been given compliments on her elegant stride. She was always graceful in movement. Well, unless a gorgeous she-cat crashes into her during a hunt. Dawnfrost believes outward appearance says more about a cat than one would think. Looking back at Owlflame for the hundredth time, the pretty bengal purred at yet another compliment that had been thrown to her. “Thank you, my dear. I’m sure a powerful looking she-cat like yourself is more than a natural at such an activity. I don't dare doubt your talent and potential for a second.” Oh yeah. Owlflame was just perfect. Thank StarClan for allowing me to meet such a wonderful she-cat!

As silence fell between them, Dawnfrost took note of Owlfame’s signal. Instinctively, the timber stripped she-cat slunked down into her hunter’s crouch and prepared herself. Her blue gaze shifted up at the plump rodent, examining it's every move. It seemed completely oblivious of the two felines that crept up on it, so this was a perfect opportunity. Dawnfrost readied her haunches, ensheathing her back claws to support the big leap. Literally seconds before she was about to leap, Owlflame took off. Dawnfrost froze as she watched the she-cat leap clear over the branch and trap the squirrel in her claws. Her heart fluttered, highly impressed that she pulled off such an athletic jump. It wasn't as graceful as she would have done it, but Owlflame’s performance was impressive enough to inspire the lithe brown she-cat. The impact itself killed the squirrel! Not even a kill-bite was needed. When the snowy colored feline turned around with that smug look on her face, Dawnfrost stood from her crouch and laughed along. “Great catch!” She breathed, looking back at the now limp squirrel beneath her large paws. “It's a fat one, too. Probably why it was so slow.” She purred, padding over to her new friend. “You’re really are a good hunter. I don't know about the best hunter, though.” Dawnfrost teased, her blue eyes glistening with playfulness. “Although…” She softened her gaze and smiled. “You did impress me.” Dawnfrost sat there looking at the pretty she-cat’s marigold eyes, waiting patiently for her response.

Shinefang watched for a moment from a cluster of thick bracken as the deputy of his clan settled herself under the tree where she had asked him to meet. He sat upwind to make himself harder to be spotted by any cats who happened to wander near, and had gotten here early to avoid Ringpaw's inane questions. In a way, he felt bad that the younger cat had to start assuming her duties so soon before the Skyclan he knew and loved had taken such a turn. Shinefang was an old cat who liked things to stay the same, and there were a few things he had been sure always would: his devotion to his leader, and his trust that Skyclan would always be on the right path, the path that allowed the clan t thrive. And now, here he found Skyclan in the paws of a ginger fool and Grousestar handing it over without a second thought.

Auroraflame had neverstruck him as a leader he would be on board with in the same way. She didn't have the same steady assurance that Grousestar seemed to have, and he didn't even have that now. He was so stressed that the medicine cat had been supplying him with calming herbs to keep him relaxed enough to function, and while he bent and twisted to try and make Blazingstar's words and behavior somehow fit with his prior agreement to be allies, her was Auroraflame being the voice of reason and calling a mousebrain a mousebrain.

Quietly, he slipped into the open and approached the deputy. For a long moment, he met her intense gaze with his own before sitting on his haunch, his bushy, yellow tail sweeping the dusty ground once before curling over his paws. "I'd be lying if I said I saw this coming."

The inky deputy lifted her head as she heard another voice. Her first instinct was to jump, immediately thinking that it might be one of her clanmates who had followed her out here, ready to question why she was out so far from camp and by herself. But she stayed calm and allowed her mind to process the voice, letting it identify the owner of that voice. "I don't think anyone saw it coming," she responded solemnly. It was true. Never in her life had Auroraflame thought for just a moment that SkyClan would be in such a position. At first, she had thought this because they were isolated. They were alone and they didn't have to worry about neighbouring clans who posed as a potential threat to SkyClan. Even when they had moved here, such a thought hadn't crossed her mind. Yes, she knew that something was bound to happen. After all, there were five clans and like littermates, it was natural for them to bicker and fight. But she had never imagined SkyClan to be in such a weak position. Although the other clans may not see it with Grousestar seemingly sure about his choices and SkyClan having made it unscathed until now, SkyClan was weak. Grousestar was secretly stressed and he was losing his original beliefs. A leader who was so peaceful, a leader that Auroraflame looked up and wanted to be like because of his ability to find the right way out of bad situations for the clan, was now gone. She didn't want to be the cat that Grousestar was right now. She couldn't. It was wrong.

"We are weak," she continued after a few moments of silence. "Grousestar isn't thinking straight and I think he's let the other leaders sway his mind. He doesn't seem to want to listen to us," she said. Although she had felt terribly guilty and had pitied her leader, she couldn't help but feel a little angry now. Everyone knew that the leaders word was law, but the deputy and medicine cat should still have a say in what happened to the clan. Auroraflame bit her lip angrily. She was being ignored and she didn't like it. Perhaps she was just being childish but she didn't like having her opinion dismissed, not when she had worked so hard to gain all this respect. It was rude and it was disrespectful, two things that the deputy couldn't stand.

Shinefang narrowed his eyes thoughtfully as he listened. He had told Grousestar that he wouldn't share that the leader was needing herbs to calm himself, and he would keep his word, but with solemnity he thought of how the shecat's words were more true than she realized.

Shinefang was a warrior first and he had been a good one, always ready for a fight, always ready to dive in to defend his clan from a threat. He didn't like Fallenstar. Not in the slightest. But he couldn't deny the reality of the vision he has seen that night at the moonpool, and that fish with Fallenstar's eyes was still burned in his memory. There was simply no way war was the right move for the forest.

"So then," Shinefang murmured with a guarded slowness. "What should we do?"

Dogcry let out a small hum as he spoke, glancing over at his brother. They were both searching for a specific type of cat, he supposed. Even if Dogcry did flirt, he couldn't see him settling down with a random cat he barely knew. Maybe Crowfoot simply wasn't made to settle down and have a long-lasting relationship or kits. Maybe he would just keep flirting. Not that there was anything wrong with that, Dogcry couldn't see the appeal however.

"Why yes I am," he winked playfully. "I hope it's not too long, I don't want to miss opportunities and wait until i'm too old." He didn't want to be a senior warrior when he finally found a mate. That didn't sound appealing to him. Dogcry didn't hang out with too many cats, always out hunting or walking along the boarder, but perhaps he should begin to be more sociable.

"Ohohoh.. Don't let that get to your head," he teased, snaking his way further down the tree and to a lower branch. "I hope so, too. I want to see some little nieces and nephews at some point, don't I?" he purred, balancing on the edge of his new branch. He was glad to be with his brother again, he really needed it. It was a comforting break from the rush of his everyday life... And how funny it was to say that, too! They were the most restless family around, yet he'd never felt more relaxed than when he spent time with them.

"Well, Dogcry... We've spent a lot of time talking," he meowed, looking towards the sky and noticing the sun's slow descent. "Should we get back to camp?" It was a shame they didn't get to hunt, though they'd always have tomorrow. Well... Unless Dogcry was up for hunting still, of course.

"We...." she trailed. Auroraflame sank a little, suddenly feeling small and powerless, the anger that had flared in her a few moments ago now done to a small flame. What should they do? Or rather, what could they do? "I...I don't know what we should do. But I know that we can't persuade Grousestar. He obviously doesn't want to listen to us anymore," she said, her voice filled with both sadness and anger. She knew that her leader wouldn't want to listen to them. Part of the reason was because of what she and Shinefang had done, another part was what Blazingstar had done, and the last part was purely his own choice. He was simply believing what he wanted, making his own interpretations of StarClan's prophecy, but thanks to Blazingstar, Grousestar wasn't willing to listen. And because of Auroraflame's boldness and Shinefang's as well, he had probably become even less likely to listen to anyone else.

So what else could they do? Grousestar probably won't listen to us, and it seems that we're alone, she thought, tapping a claw lightly against the ground as she thought carefully. "Or are we alone?" she suddenly murmured as a light bulb lit up in her head. What if there were other cats in the clan who wanted peace too? What if they weren't the only ones, and they just didn't know who else there was? What if there were cats in the other clans who also wanted peace? Auroraflame's eyes widened a little. She had an idea, but she knew how wrong it was.

"We have to go against Grousestar's back," she breathed, and her legs trembled a little as she said it. "I don't really want to have to do this, but it looks like we have no choice," she said quietly to herself as encouragement. "We should collect cats, cats who agree with us. We can build up a large group of cats, so we'll be strong. I don't know exactly how it'll work, but we can...we can start a rebellion." It was a very 'out there' idea, and Auroraflame almost hoped that Shinefang would tell her how silly she was being, but she knew that this could be the start of something.

Bonnie had been exploring a lot more since she left her housefolk. She figured getting a sense of the new area’s would be a good idea. Being homeless had gotten on her nerves lately, traveling everyday, avoiding hostile cats, dealing with hunger. It was exhausting. Surely she’d find a place to stay one day, though. Luckily she was a somewhat positive feline, always trying to look on the bright side of things. The reality of living as a loner sure was hard, but that did not bother her too much. It was nice being alone and having the luxury to wander wherever she pleased. She could breathe better, she got more exercise, and she’d even meet someone new every once in awhile. Sometimes it was a little overwhelming, and that bothered her; but leaving her housefolk was the biggest change of her entire life, and she was proud of that. Bonnie tried not to look back on her past, though. Once she had left that old place, she never wanted to go back. It was best to look after herself now, anyways.

The dilute calico had stumbled upon a new place, unaware of any ownership. She sniffed cautiously at every plant and shrub she passed, slowly gaining the presence of another cat. No...more than one cat. Was this another Clan’s territory? She had already discovered RiverClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, and ThunderClan, but hasn't heard of the existence of a fifth Clan. Perhaps it was just her being paranoid. Although as she walked further and further among the trees, she started to recognize a flattened pathway. The grass seemed flatter in some parts, as if cat’s - or some other animal - had come through here recently. Bonnie crouched down to examine the pathway, nosing the ground for any tracks that she could try and study. After rummaging through the unfamiliar trail, Bonnie had found some fresh pawprints. Lots of them. Oh dear… Her heartbeat sped up a little and she stiffened. I hope I’m not intruding. The small she-cat backed up a little from the path, still crouched with caution. It would be impossible to see her through the tall grass, but Bonnie hoped that nobody would pick up on her scent. Clanner’s were extremely territorial, and she did not want to get mixed with one of their “patrols”. Her blue eyes were glazed with thought, not paying attention to her backside. Surely enough, she suddenly felt something run into her rump. “Oof!” Bonnie huffed, startled. She quickly spun around to see what had run into her, thin claws unsheathed naturally out of fright and digging into the ground

tail whipping about behind her, lunarspring dashed after a butterfly. her yellow eyes were focused on the beating wings, its colors merging together in a dance of beauty. her ears flattened, then rose once more as the butterfly turned a corner. she spun with it, paws leaving skid marks in the dirt as she moved as quickly as possible. she had to catch it.
she was supposed to be hunting; and she would, once she caught the darned butterfly that had been taunting her. its wings were simply too beautiful to resist running after it, circling around skyclan's territory for who-knows-how-long. her breath was coming in shallow pants, limbs growing tired from running for such a long time. but luna was determined not to quit chasing the insect until she caught it. she would run all day if she had to!
of course, by this time she would have been able to bring a few pieces of prey back to camp, fulfilling her duties as a young warrior and giving her thanks to the clan for allowing her to eat the food that they hunted. lunarspring had always been a distractible molly, running off to try and capture bugs, chasing a feather, ect. it hadn't proved to be very useful, as was being modelled at the time she had wasted. it was a wonder how the clan put up with her silly actions, or how she even passed her warrior assessment in the first place.
as she wandered blindly through the territory, luna didn't notice a feline hidden within the bushes. with the next thing she knew, the white molly was laying on her side, confused and faintly aching. coming to her senses, however, lunarspring managed to focus on the cat she had run into. they were unfamiliar, presumably a loner-- they didn't have the scent of a clan cat.
standing, lunarspring hopped to her paws and examined the feline, observing that they were a molly, and, in fact, a non-clan cat. her head tilted to the side and she raised her gaze to the molly's face, blinking cautiously.
"hello," she mewed, high-pitched voice filled with the curiosity she felt, "who are you?"

Bonnie retracted her claws after confirming what had bumped into her. It was a white she-cat with gray patches, all alone. Calming herself, Bonnie responded in a low tone. “Bonnie. Who are you?” The small molly corrected her defensive stance and decided to take a seat, curling her colorful tail over her paws. It was hard to tell if this cat were a warrior or a loner. Clanners had weird names, usually related to their looks or personality. Then she remembered that loner’s could have Clan names too, so really the odds just weren't in her favor. Her eyes were steady on the molly, examining her every move and feature. She did not look any older than her, maybe by a couple moons, but based on the way she greeted her made Bonnie assume she was younger. “Are you a Clan cat? I could leave if you wish, I had no intentions on trespassing…” Her head dipped respectfully, hoping not to appear too passive or aggressive. First impressions were important to her, for they determined future relationships. Bonnie wasn't sure if this cat would become a future friend, even though they seemed friendly. She wasn't too crazy about meeting other cat’s, though. It takes a long time to gain Bonnie’s trust, and she’s even known to be fickle with new relationships if she feels uncomfortable enough.

She tilted her head back at the stranger, confused by how interested she was. Her yellow eyes were practically blazing with curiosity, almost blinding her own ocean blue ones. Bonnie simply couldn't fathom where her interest was coming from. She was just a loner, surely the molly had seen one before. They pass through the wild all the time, right? Surely they’re smarter to stay away from Clans, but Bonnie did not know any better this time. Part of her hoped the she-cat wouldnt ask any questions, for she wasn't in a quiz mood. Something deep within her stomach told her otherwise, though. So, with a slow, deep breath, Bonnie prepared herself for anything this cat had to say.

So, with a slow, deep breath, Bonnie prepared herself for anything this cat had to say.

lunarspring nodded as she heard the feline's name, rolling it over her tongue and hoping that she would remember. her ears swiveled to the side, looking as though she were an owl. the white she-cat then rose to her full height, claws scraping against the ground with caution.
"yes; i am lunarspring of skyclan. many call me luna," she responded, tail flicking from side to side, "you may stay if only for good reason; i would prefer not to take you to my leader." her eyes flicked between bonnie's blue gaze, searching for anything that could give away hidden intentions. the young warrior contemplated her options, jaw clenching faintly.
"have you come from twolegplace? if so, have you ever seen a tom by the name of buddy?" her expression held that of hope, wanting desperately to know if this molly had seen her brother. luna had never seen a loner before, being as she had liked to stay away from any strangers. especially any from the twolegplace.
but she wished she could meet her brother. their mother had taken him to twolegplace when they were young, leaving lunarspring to grow up with her adopted parents in skyclan. she had never even seen him before, much less had she ever seen her mother. luna simply needed to be informed that he was still there, alive and well. if she wasn't so frightened of twolegplace, she would go and see for herself; but with all the stories she had been told by elders, it was almost impossible to even allow herself to go near it.
her tail flicked, body twitching as she awaited an answer from bonnie.

Bonnie wasn't surprised to learn that “Lunarspring” was a Clanner, but her first question intrigued her. “Buddy?” The dilute tabby parroted the name, trying to see if it sparked any part of her memory. Nothing. With a shake of her head, Bonnie replied. “I am from twolegplace, but never heard of a cat named Buddy.” She almost felt bad for not knowing him. The gray-and-white warrior looked rather hopeful, but she couldn't figure out why a Clanner like herself would be looking for a kittypet. Last she knew was Clanner’s hated kittypets. With that thought, she quickly added. “I’m a loner, just passing through. I have no need to see your leader, but may I ask what Clan this is?” The small she-cat looked around at their surroundings, trying to think of the possible names of this new Clan. It was so weird how they came up with the names, but usually it made sense. ‘RiverClan’ made the most sense to her, but still couldn't wrap her mind around ‘ThunderClan’. Why thunder? She suddenly wanted to know the story behind it.

Snapping back into reality, Bonnie’s ear flicked out of boredom. She always hated small talk. It made her very uncomfortable and sleepy. Holding back a yawn, the former kittypet sighed inwardly as she listened to Lunarspring explain things to her. Heck, if it weren't for the unusual energy coming from her, Bonnie would have actually nodded off by now. Her tail tip curled impatiently, wondering why she was so bubbly. There’s literally nothing to be that intrigued about. Lunarspring must be one of those ‘happy-go-lucky’ felines. Bonnie was not.

Shinefang waited and watched as the shecat thought it over, tapping her claws, talking to herself... When she did speak, what she had to say was maddening. He kept himself panted where he was but the fur on his back bristled as his tail angrily swept the dust behind him. "A treacherous move..." he growled under his breath. He gritted his teeth so hard he thought they might shatter in his mouth. "But...he isn't listening." Shinefang looked up at the deputy, "He's always listened before," he put in desperately, a plea in his voice. For what, he wasn't sure. For Auroraflame to say there was another way? Or that Grousestar would snap out of it and listen to reason tomorrow? He knew it wasn't true. He remembered the resolution in the leader's voice as he revealed the news of this secret alliance.

The old tom stood up and began to pace. "The warrior code says that the word of the leader is the warrior code...but the warrior code is meant to be the will of Starclan, right? So why would Starclan send a sign that tells us to do the opposite of our leader's wishes?" Shinefang growled as he gouged at the earth with his claws and instantly shrank back with a start, having moved to fast for his joints. When he looked back at Auroraflame, his eye was lit from within, an angry fire. "I hate it!" he snarled, "I hate everything about it!" With a huff to catch his breath, he looked down at his feet. "But...I don't think we have a choice...I do think that war is not the answer here and I think that if we let things unfold they way they are going, the damage could be irreversible." With slow, measured steps, he moved toward the deputy, the cat who would care for Skyclan more than likely for long after he was dead and cold. He came so close that they were only a whisker's length from touching noses, then he sank to his haunches, gave her a measured look, closed his eye, and bowed his head. "Just tell me what you need me to do...for Skyclan."

"that's alright, i suppose," the molly mewed, tail swishing in the air. lunarspring suddenly leaped towards a tree, climbing up to the lowest branch and looking down over the other feline. "this is skyclan, clan of the agile and determined." she cocked her head to the side, watching bonnie closely, as though she were awaiting a reaction. her claws dug into the branch, leaves shaking from their stems and falling to the ground. her eyes had lost the saddened light that they had had only moments before, instead replaced by a childish glint as she began to hop from tree to tree.
"i am led by grousestar, with auroraflame standing beside him as a deputy, and shinefang as our medicine cat. shinefang has also taken on an apprentice, ringpaw, recently," lunarspring explained, "skyclan is the fifth clan of them all. we are generally forgotten in the stories, as i have noticed, though i do not know why. i am only a young molly, of course." her rear-end shook from side to side before she launched herself towards bonnie, rolling at the last moment while midair and landing beside the colorful she-cat.
luna bounced on her toes, a kitten-like excitement coursing through her. yellow irises remained focused on blue, examining for anything that could lead her on to explaining more. her ears twitched, swiveling back and forth while she thought of what to say. she didn't know why, but she felt like telling this molly all she had to know; within reason, of course, as to not give away any personal secrets that needed to stay inside clan walls.
"would you like to see the territory? or- or i could tell you a few stories and show you seastones- that's where all the clans meet every full moon- and you could show me to twolegplace!" lunarspring's eyes were wide and full of excitement, focused solely on bonnie as she waited for an answer, barely paying any attention to what she was saying.

“SkyClan…” Bonnie worded, looking up at the sky and then back at Lunarspring. She actually liked the name of that Clan. It made a lot of sense, and it was simple. She was about to ask more, but suddenly Lunarspring rushed up a tree and perched herself on a branch like some bird. She did not know what to think of this. It was so sudden and random, and completely inappropriate. They were having a conversation and this cat thought it was a good idea to just hop up in a tree and stay there. That childish grin did not help, either. Although for some reason, Bonnie was impressed. How did she...climb a tree like that? The calico she-cat shook off a leaf that landed on her head, then glanced back up at the gray-and-white warrior. She gave a small smile back at her, about to try and ask her question again, but of course, Lunarspring was back in the conversation. She spoke so much. Part of her wanted her to slow down, or maybe even shut up, but then another part wanted her to say more. Now that she thought about it, maybe Lunarspring told her a little too much. What if she were a hostile cat? Any of that information she just gave her could have been used against her or SkyClan in the future. It definitely wasn't wise to tell her all of SkyClan’s information straight up like that.

Eventually, the warrior came down from the tree, and while it was in an impressive way, Bonnie couldn't help but be a little frazzled. She was so vibrant and full of energy that it made Bonnie exhausted just watching her. Where does she get all that energy? She wondered, blinking at the white-and-gray feline. A little part of her wished she could be more like Lunarspring. Suddenly, Lunarspring started going on about touring. Oh dear...maybe I should say something before this gets out of paw. “Look, Lunarspring-” Bonnie quickly meowed, hoping to catch a moment to put in a word. “It’s very thoughtful of you to share all this information with me, but don't you think it’s a little unsafe to share that much? I thought Clanners were very private cats. That's why you keep each other out of your territories, no?” Bonnie was so confused. “I’m certainly flattered by your...interest, but perhaps I should be going? It’s not right for a loner like me to be here, anyway.” Bonnie stood and let out a long needed stretch. All that sitting had stiffened her legs. “It was a pleasure to meet you, though.”

Of course it probably wouldn't be right away, but he found the option appealing. He hoped that he'd get to be a father some day in the future.

He glanced at the sky as his brother spoke, the sun slowly setting, the sky changing to a faint orange-pink. He stood and stretched. "We should probably get back to camp before it gets dark," he agreed. "Perhaps we can hunt soon," he leapt down a few branches before landing on the ground. He'd enjoyed his time with Crowfoot, like he always did.

He came so close that they were only a whisker's length from touching noses, then he sank to his haunches, gave her a measured look, closed his eye, and bowed his head. "Just tell me what you need me to do...for Skyclan."

The ebony nodded a little in agreement and bowed her head. She couldn’t believe that she was saying this. She was almost ashamed. Part of her role as deputy was to support and help the leader and she had done so for so long, yet here she was, potentially about to betray her leader. But Auroraflame knew that if something wasn’t done soon, SkyClan would be doomed. She would sacrifice her own comfort and relationships would have to be sacrificed for the sake of SkyClan. Oh StarClan, please let this be the right move, she prayed, closing her eyes for a moment as she quietly begged StarClan for guidance. Oh how lost she felt.

“He’s not listening and he won’t as long as Blazingstar is around to encourage him,” Auroraflame growled to contradict the tom. “He believes that he’s doing the best for SkyClan. Blazingstar promised him that WindClan would owe SkyClan whatever favour in return for our alliance, and I know that Grousestar accepted because he thought it was the best choice for SkyClan. But it isn’t,” she said with a pained expression. It was hurting the she-cat to see her leader seemingly throwing away his wisdom and knowledge that he had gained from his own experiences to listen to an immature, violent leader.

“I don’t think the prophecy was about this. The prophecy had something to do with RiverClan. StarClan gave no sign of this being wrong, nor did they give any sign that it was right unless you’ve seen something recently?” she said questioningly. “Whatever happens next is our own doing. StarClan has little to do with it and we will have to accept the consequences and sacrifice our bond with Grousestar for the sake of SkyClan,” she breathed nervously. Her heart pounded and fear raced through her. This was wrong, yet it was right at the same time. Auroraflame didn’t move away as Shinefang moved over, so close that they would touch noses if Auroraflame moved just a little. But she didn’t, she stayed still and let Shinefang judge her for everything she was saying, she waited for him to tell her that this wrong, that he would have no part in this.
But he didn’t. Her eyes widened a little and even a wave of pity washed over her. Grousestar was alone. She and Shinefang, who had never been able to even stand being a couple of foxlengths from the other, were now working together and against Grousestar. Oh my Grousestar, I’m so sorry.
“Find cats. Find cats who you know we can trust to keep a secret. Tell them to gather every few days. We must discuss ways to stop the war. We need to return RiverClan to their home. I don’t like having another group so close to us again and they belong in their given home anyway,” she said in a hushed tone. “Get our allies thinking. Get them to come up with ways to fix things.” Allies now had a new meaning. No longer was she referring to WindClan and ShadowClan, but rather anyone who wanted peace like them. “Tell Ringpaw if you want. But like everyone else, I’d suggest watching to see if she would be willing to sacrifice her loyalty to Grousestar temporarily, for the sake of peace.”

Ringpaw was bounding through the territory, her lungs heaving as she leaped not-so-gracefully over a rotting log, her back hind paw just knocking against the bark as she jumped awry.
On days like this, she liked to get outside, as the sun was still young in the sky and the air cool enough to break the sheen of sweat under her fur from exertion.
She hadn’t exactly become Shinefang’s full apprentice yet, it was still strange to think about, but she was finally free from Snapbranch.
Every morning she would wake, and as soon as she opened her eyes she would scowl at having to go on patrol or do another good-for-nothing battle session.
Strangely enough, the only battle training she had ever done well was with Shinefang himself, who wasn’t even a warrior anymore!
But then she purred as she remembered that she didn’t have to deal with her old mentor’s nastiness or scowl every time she went outside of her nest.
Blinking her mint orbs in the sunlight, the calico landed on the other side of the fallen branch, her paws squishing in the lichen below her feet.
If cats could smile, she would be beaming.
Scanning the forest around her, something intriguing caught her eye.
A beautiful tree, coated with ivy, was lying right before her like a throne. It’s branches were weaving in and out of the air, twisting like snakes and leaves as big as a bush on each stem. The roots were gnarled and twisted, morphing the earth it sat upon into a churning mass of dirt.
Grinning, Ringpaw approached the tree without concern, then bunched her hindquarters below her stomach, balancing carefully.
She powered up forward, her claws outstretched and she slammed into the trunk, latching on like a squirrel clinging for dear life.
Peering up into the tree, she shimmied her way up the bark until she was able to hook onto a large, twisted branch.
She sat on top of the wood, gazing down at the grass only a foxlength below her, surprised she had gotten up.
Purring she turned around before stretching out her tail and leaping up another, and another, and another...
Before she knew it, Ringpaw was way farther up the tree than she had intended.
Peering cautiously down, she knew if Shinefang had seen her up a tree the yellow tom would have narrowed his eye and snapped about how birds belonged in trees, not cats!
It was true, though...
Stepping her way back down, she reached another branch uneasily, but realized she had forgotten how she had managed to get up.
The ground swayed beneath her as she teetered unsteadily.
Ringpaw swung her head back and forth, looking for anyone.
“Hello? I’m a, uh, I’m a bit stuck?” She called unsteadily. Hopefully, neither of her mentors, past or present, saw her in here. She would never be able to live it down.
“Help? Anyone know how to get down this thing?” She called once more, swinging her front right paw towards a lower piece of wood aimlessly.

She turned to lead on," I'll take you to what once was Riverclan territory. Specifically there old camp, its the easiest way to truly smell them." She paused Is Riverclan still a clan? she shook the thought way as she entered the former Riverclan territory that now was Skyclan's she was a bit tense entering this territory as Skyclan still didn't know every kink in the territory. She flicked her tail," This use to be Riverclans territory use to be here, but some of the territory is ours now." She replied.
He nodded. "How come its ours now? Did we fight to take it?"

Blazepaw paused for a moment, pondering the possible audacity of what he had said. She was right, and eagle would sound better, but he’d heard stories of starved foxes eating cats. Badgers too. The world was full of creatures that liked to kill cats, and the ginger tom was plenty sure that there was probably at least one predator out there, somewhere, they preyed on cats to eat them. He was glad that that predator was nowhere near the clans. ”Well, a starving fox would probably eat a cat. Pretty much any starving creature to be honest.” He wasn’t exactly sure where this conversation was going, but Blazepaw went with it. Like he did all things.
As she mentioned being horrible at hinting birds, Blazepaw flicked his ears, letting out a small laugh of relief. ”Well that’s good! In a way. I mean, I thought I was the only one.” Blazepaw had spent most of his early apprenticeship watching his mentor gracefully bring down birds, with swell, sleek movements that made it look easy. But whenever Blazepaw had tried to copy the movements of Auroraflame, he usually landed flat on his nose. Or his back. Either way, he just could never land right. As Redpaw seemed saddened about the fact that they couldn’t fly, Blazepaw’s olive colored eyes brightened a little. ”We may not be able to fly, but I sometimes climb trees so tall that being up there makes it feel like I’m flying!” Excitement laced his words intertwining with his usual bouncy tone. He knew that some of the stuff he said to cats wasn’t exactly understood by them, but he figured that Redpaw was understanding most of what he was saying. She wasn’t expressing her confusion out loud, and Blazepaw had never been the best at reading emotions, so things needed to be told to him directly. Otherwise the young tomcat would remain completely oblivious.
As she mentioned his name, he smiled, his ears perking up. Blazepaw liked the way she described his name, it made him sound powerful. But he wanted to make sure she knew her name was cool too. She mentioned other fiery names, Inferno, Spark, Cackle, and Blazepaw flocked his ears at her last comment. Feared? Cats who are feared? The ginger tom wasn’t so sure about that. Sure, he wanted to sound powerful, but feared? Blazepaw would hate it if he was feared. He didn’t mind cats not liking him, but being afraid of him? That would make him feel horrible, like he’d done something wrong. ”Well.....” Blazepaw’s green eyes flicked about as he pondered, trying to think of a good name for Redpaw. ”Your name will become more unique once you become a warrior. It can be something cool, like Redstripe or Redflame or Redburst, or something beautiful, like... Redflower, Redpetal, or Redgaze.” He purred, focusing his gaze on her as he finished speaking.

Redpaw strained a smile at the mention of a fox. Even she didn't understand why the tom spoke of predators. The last thing she wanted to think about was what predators she needed to watch out for...foxes, eagles, dogs...or even other cats. As morbid as it was, she probably would had felt remotely better if her family's demise was given to a predator rather than being murdered in the paws of their enemy. She was such an emotional basket case that she was almost about to start crying on the spot if this topic was prolonged. She desperately tried to hide it, blinking back her glistening tears coating her eyes, smiling softly at the tom and nodding at him. Starclan knows how much of a battle it is for her; whether she wanted to live or die.

Redpaw felt that she wasn't good at a lot of things. Mainly because she was so aloof and dreamy nowadays that she was sure that she possibly could already be dead, and that this was some sick fake reality that she was living on repetition. Her training had been lacking, if she was honest, and that was completely on her fault for giving up on herself. ''...you're Auroraflame's apprentice, aren't you?'' She tilted her head, curiously. She probably remember playing with Blazepaw as kits for a short time, and when they became apprentices, he was a fuzzy face in the back of her mind, like the rest of her clan mates. ''I'd imagine that you must know a ton of cool stuff that she teaches you.'' Because Auroraflame was an awesome cat in her eyes. The deputy was so bubbly and sweet and just...an amazing cat all around. If Redpaw wanted to be anyone, it would be her. Redpaw just wanted some form of guidance, see some form of strength, so that she could have a tiny bit for herself.

As he spoke about climbing trees, the brightness in his tone, she practically could see his glowing smile. For a small moment, she reciprocated his excitement, wishing that she could go back to being the bubbly feline she used to be as a kit. Her tail swished behind her, ''Do you know how to jump from tree to tree? I mean, I tried so many times but I fell...more than I could count...my body is still kinda sore.'' She wheezed, staring at the ground sheepishly. She tried to do a lot of things. By all means, she wasn't bold, and sometimes she couldn't help but wonder if doing reckless things was because she genuinely enjoyed doing them or wanted some type of escape from this world that she abhorred greatly. Redpaw was never a hateful cat, and she usually didn't display any type of derision, even though she was depressed to a great extreme. It gave the clan one less cat to worry about, in her eyes.

Nowadays, Redpaw couldn't take a compliment truly to the heart, but she appreciated the fact that Blazepaw tried to make her feel better about her name. The elementary fact was that she was named after her red fur. Her father was lovable, but he lacked creativity, in her opinion when it came to naming the kits. Her brothers had cool names, Beachkit, Strikerkit, and Sagekit. Yet, she was the one that survived. The mundane in the litter of four. ''I like Redflame or Redburst...'' She said, quietly, not sure if her voice was loud enough since she was soft spoken. She didn't even notice that her gaze was set on the ground, drawing idle shapes in the dirt until she met his gaze, her nose scrunching. ''Redflower sounds...boring. Not that I don't like it, but I can't imagine how many mollies must have that warrior name already. Redpetal is beautiful...'' She'd be named after her mother; Scorchedpetal. Realistically, she wouldn't be able to choose her name, and she could only hope that Grousestar name her something justifiable. Then again, Redpaw wasn't entirely sure if she'd be around long enough to reach her warrior moons. She wasn't actively trying to kill herself, but if something were to happen, she wouldn't complain. ''What about you? Have you ever thought of your warrior name? Like...maybe...Blazespark, Blazehawk, Blazerunner...'' She hated that she suggested those ideas. They sounded so cheap, and she literally had to cringe and shrink into herself. ''...Sorry, I'm not as creative as you are.''

She also hated that he caught her at a bad time. She usually hid away to drown in her sorrows, hoping that by chance starvation would consume her. Around her clan mates, Redpaw tried to be a little more responsive, and she could only hope that Blazepaw wasn't reading into her misery all too well. She got up, shaking her pelt to at least make her feel a little more lighter. It didn't help much since her heart was extremely heavy. ''I apologize...you caught me at a bad time. I, um, I...'' She glanced back at the tree she was using as a lonesome shelter until she was interrupted by the bombarding tom. Not that she really could berate him. ''I...I'm just in need of a really good time. You look like a cat who knows how to show someone a good time.'' She smiled, almost shyly at him. Exactly. Maybe that's all she needed. Some lighthearted laughter when all her recent moons had been filled with overflowing tears. It was like a broken dam inside her eyes. ''Oh! Maybe we can chase some birds!'' She teased lightheartedly, jumping to her paws a tiny bit excited.

The charcoal deputy let out a sigh of relief as she left the meeting. It was hard having to work with her clanmates to meet up in secret and against Grousestar's back. Auroraflame knew that she was a horrible deputy for doing this, but she believed that she was doing it for the greater good of the clan. The she-cat never thought that she would be in this position, one where she was picking up the mess that her own leader had created and having to fix it in secret. She knew she would kick herself if Grousestar were to find out. She didn't want the tom to know what she had been doing. Not only because the meetings were supposed to remain secret especially to the leader, but she didn't want to see the sense of betrayal on his face when he found out what she had been doing. Grousestar hadn't been the best leader lately, in her opinion, but she didn't want him to be in pain either.

Auroraflame quietly padded through the woods. Her eyes were wide and alert as she scanned the forest for threats. Her breathing was a little quicker than usual and she could feel her heart pumping quickly in her chest. She couldn't help but remember that she had had the feeling that somebody had been watching her during the meeting earlier. She was thinking worse case scenarios right now, murderers, kidnappers, former syndicate cats. Oh calm down, you're overreacting, Auroraflame told herself, and willed her heart to stop pounding like a hammer in her chest.

The tabby leader was well aware that some cats had distaste in his choice, for bringing them into battle due to his own alliance with Windclan. But he tried to convince himself that he was right by sticking with his choice, he wasn't a traitor and Skyclan had been in the middle for too long. Things were to come to a head eventually and he'd prefer to come out on top, with allies, than be attacked with none. Perhaps cats didn't understand his point, they didn't know the stresses he went through as a leader, always trying to make everyone happy when it was a hopeless task. No matter what he did, no matter what he chose, someone would be upset, angry, distraught. Why couldn't they just understand he was trying his best for Skyclan's future? Establishing alliances now helped Skyclan, just in case trouble did ever come their way, they could call upon someone for aid. Now that he's helped Windclan in battle, surely they would owe him something? The circumstances of the battle were irrelevant. He was only sticking to the alliance he had formed.
And on top of this, he had a sneaking suspicion that his deputy was up to something. Not only had she outright disagreed with him, in front of the other leaders, but she had been sporadically disappearing. He hadn't asked her about it, but he had noticed. Today was when he would confront her about it. Maybe it was nothing more than her going out hunting more, with leafbare coming, but.. He had a sinking feeling it wasn't.

Idly his paws drug him through the forest, his eyes distant, glazed. Oh Starclan please. Please let it be just her hunting. Don't... Don't do this to me. He thought desperately, his mind still trying to come up with any excuse for his own deputy. The feeling wouldn't go away. Ears perking up, he heard the hurried sound of pawsteps, though they were meant to be quiet.
Soon enough, he saw the black pelt of his deputy, her eyes wide, alert, as if she were running from something. He wanted to smile at the sight of her, okay and unharmed, but the nagging feeling that something was up prevented him from doing so.
"Auroraflame." Already the brown tabby had began to approach her.
"I'd like to speak to you about something. If you have the time." Grousestar half attempted a polite smile, but it only came off as tired and forced.

Usually the she-cat was actually generally a little jumpy when it came to being out and about by herself, but never in her own territory. Even at night when it was hard for her to see, she was fine because her own fur was dark enough to help her camouflage should someone be chasing her. But now she was being overcautious even in her own territory. Intruders were more likely to be found in their territory now, especially since RiverClan were on the other side of the border.
As Grousestar stated that he wanted to speak to her, again, the worst scenarios ran through her mind. He must know about the peacemaker meetings! But even if he does, what's the worst that could happen? She had no idea what was about to happen. She used the relief of the knowledge that she wasn't being followed by a murderer and covered her panic up with it.
"Of course! I was going to head back to camp after some hunting but I didn't really have anything to do after that." Lies. She hadn't been hunting. She was going to head back to camp, but she did have some things regarding the peacemakers to do once she was back. She was planning on gathering up more cats to meet up in another gathering later this week. But it seemed that that would have to wait. Auroraflame returned the tired, forced smile of her leader with a small, calm smile of her own. Auroraflame had always been rather good at lying and faking other expressions when she needed to. She regarded that as quite an important skill in the cruel world that they lived in. She would have to lie her way out of things for her own protection and the safety of others.

Rustcloud would walk through the territory. His fur flowing in the wind slowly as he looked up at the sky. He'd sit down just to look at the sky for a moment before looking at his surroundings. Rustcloud was always familiar with this territory, but he kinda stood out with his dark rusty colored pelt. He sighed blinking a few times before seeing if there was anyone around to talk to. He felt slightly lonely at this point and differently wanted someone to talk to or just look at for a bit.

A small but lanky she-cat pads her way through the territory breathing in the crisp air. She could smell the rain but there was nothing yet. The she-cat was a pretty white cat with orange and brown markings on her face, an orange spot on her side, and a long fluffy orange tail with a black tip kind of like a fox. The pretty molly yawns and stretches, her ears twitching and swiveling around listening to the sound. She looks up as light from the sun shines through the clouds onto her fur causing the white to glisten. Vixentail purrs softly at the warmth that flooded her body from the sun rays.

Rustcloud would look around him. He saw a she-cat a small one. He thought for a moment. He had no idea weather he should walk over and say hi or just watch her and seem like a stalker. He sounded somewhat like he was scared and nervous, but somewhat confident. So it was half and half when he said something. Auroraflame whirled around at the sound of another voice breaking through the gentle rustling of the forest. She unsheathed her claws as she did so, ready to face whatever force that was awaiting her. "Oh Grousestar. It's just you," Auroraflame said, letting out a loud sigh. "I thought some kind of murderer was following me. The war is changing my sense of trust," she admitted. This was somewhat true. Grousestar let his tail flick lightly, his gaze falling to the ground for a moment as it took her a moment to realize it was him, collecting herself again and sheathing her claws. "Just me," meowed the tom quietly with a faint smile, looking back at her now. Ironically, he nearly felt the same as what she described. Is it changing my trust though? Or is there reason for me feeling this way. Grousestar hated that he had any doubt in Auroraflame, and where her loyalties lied... But he couldn't ignore that he felt it. He refrained from agreeing with her and refrained for commenting on it, only nodding his head slightly and flickering his gaze away again, trying to figure out how he would word it.
"Would you mind if we talked on the way there? This is.. Unfortunately serious business." The very words felt as if they drained the energy out of him. The tom did not want to have to do this, did not want to have to question his deputy, did not want to doubt that she was anything but loyal and open with him. "Don't take my inquiries too personally... I just... Need to know the truth Auroraflame. It could all just be a coincidence, that I'm just trying to connect dots together that don't make a picture. But please... Let me know the truth." Grousestar didn't look over at her as they presumably walked on, back towards camp, his eyes focused blankly ahead. The very question he was about to ask, felt as if it were draining the very life out of him.
"Auroraflame. Have you been doing something I don't know about? You're not acting the same. You've been disappearing. Is... There something you've neglected to tell me about?" Now he would look over, pain stricken on his face, as if it pained him to ask the very question and apprehension bubbled in his gut for the answer he would receive. He wanted her to say no, to say that this was all just a coincidence, that everything was fine and she was still truthful and trustworthy. He wanted it so desperately bad. But there was doubt.

He wanted her to say no, to say that this was all just a coincidence, that everything was fine and she was still truthful and trustworthy. He wanted it so desperately bad. But there was doubt.

As Grousestar suggested that they talked while they walked back to camp, Auroraflame felt a wave of regret crashing into her. She could tell. She could tell from the way he looked and sounded, as well as from the words he spoke, that something wasn't right. She wished she had lied. She should've said that she had had some extremely important business to attend to, but she hadn't thought it through. Mouse dung! she cursed silently. She knew how wrong it was for her to want to lie to Grousestar now, but honestly, she had a feeling that she wouldn't want to hear this. And by the looks of it, Grousestar didn't want to say it.
Auroraflame nodded solemnly as the brown tabby tom asked for the truth. Oh dear, she thought, her body growing cold with anticipation. When Grousestar finally asked his question, Auroraflame could feel the world slowing around her. She remained silent for a few moments, her face showing the smallest signs of fear. He had noticed.

She should've done better to cover her tracks, metaphorically that is. Maybe she had too passionate about the meetings and had held them too often. She had put too much attention into this resistance that she hadn't done enough to hide it. The she-cat thought that she had done well. She'd made sure to carefully set out the patrols and instruct her clanmates of the 'good' places to hunt. She left at early hours in the morning and always made sure she returned to camp at a reasonable time. But even then, it all hadn't been enough. "Yes," she finally said. She was breathing slow, deep breaths, trying to remain calm. She thought about how he would react. He'd probably be hurt that she would betray him like that, that'd probably be his first reaction. But then it struck her, he'd want to know what she had been doing behind his back. She knew that there was no escaping that question. Either she continued talking and told him right now, or he would have to ask her first. He wants the truth, and he deserves to know it. I've hurt him enough.
"I've been meeting up with cats from the other clans," she admitted. She was still lying. Auroraflame could almost laugh at how she lied so freely and so often nowadays. But once again, she was lying with good intentions. She couldn't tell Grousestar that she had actually only met up with SkyClan cats. Not only would their peacemaker plans be screwed, but her clanmates would be punished too. That was the one thing that the deputy couldn't stand the thought of. She refused to allow her clanmates to be punished for something that she had dragged them into. Even if they had agreed to take the risk and had willingly joined, she would take the punishment alone anyway. "This war is crazy and it's wrong. We want to stop it," she explained, her hues widening pleadingly. She hoped that the leader would understand why she go against him like she had.

As moments of silence passed, the reality of punishment really hit the deputy. Finally did she realize what an disloyal deputy and warrior she had been, and Grousestar would almost certainly punish her in the harshest way possible. Fear consumed her, and she became numb. How would the leader act? What kind of punishment would she receive? Oh you're overreacting. Grousestar is kind, surely he'll take mercy on you, she reassured herself, and for a couple of moments, she wasn't as terrified. What could he do to hurt her badly enough? He wouldn't kill her. She could trust that. Maybe he would scratch her up, but she could take a couple of wounds. It couldn't be that bad. Never did it occur to her that he might demote her.

Duskflight
The silence in itself was an answer for him, his eyelids drooping slightly as if it took what little heart he had left, what little hope, right out of him. And seconds later, she verbally spoke her answer. His pawsteps stumbled a bit, as if it took every ounce of him to not just collapse to the ground. After so many moons, so very many moons of trust, and what he would consider friendship. Only for her to.. To betray him, go behind his back, to lie and hide the truth from him. He had trusted her, his trust in her had run so deeply and now it was shattering away as if it never even existed.

Grousestar didn't say anything. The brown tabby was deathly silent as she took her deep breaths, composing her words to say to him, explain herself. She further admitted to meeting cats from other clans behind his back. It was like another blow to him, his pawsteps trembling, stumbling again. Until he stopped walking and just stood there. His eyes were blank and clouded, far away. She had the audacity to try and redeem herself by calling this all crazy, and that apparently her and the other cats she had been seeing want it to stop. A small inkling of anger bubbled in him, but it didn't show. The only thing that showed on the tom was a deep exhaustion that no one should know. She knows nothing of clan politics. She knows nothing of my reasoning's. She knows nothing of the betrayal she has committed. She knows nothing about the very pain that she has caused me now. His mind wheeled and cried, but he just stood there, staring blankly ahead, as if he were a statue. This cat here was so vastly different than the cat he was when he first received his nine lives. But one thing that would never change, is that he would never harm his own clanmates, regardless of the atrocity they have committed upon him.

"You are to be demoted immediately Auroraflame. You have made it apparent that I cannot trust you as a deputy, or even as a friend. You will remain in camp at all times until I deem you ready to prove your trust again. I can't trust you to be in the territory by yourself it seems. You can't be trusted in the territory at all." Grousestar turned his green gaze upon her, a gaze that used to hold so much life and joy, but now was only stony and harsh. The exhaustion was still there, but he began to walk again, back to camp, fully expecting her at her side. She threw away my trust as if it were nothing...

The exhaustion was still there, but he began to walk again, back to camp, fully expecting her at her side. She threw away my trust as if it were nothing...

Auroraflame stopped breathing. She stared at the brown tabby in shock. She had been demoted. It came as a shock to her, since of all the punishments that she had thought he might use on her, a demotion hadn't been one of them. She stopped moving, standing still on the forest floor, trying to process what had just happened. She felt weak at her knees, and would've worried about crashing to the ground if she wasn't too numb with shock.

It felt like her world was crumbling. Well, not quite her world, but certainly her dreams. She had finally achieved her dream, which was to be deputy and later leader, but here she was, her passion being crushed with just a few words. And she was expected to blame herself.

She could feel tears threatening to spill down her cheeks. The charcoal she-cat was overwhelmed with sadness and shock, as well as guilt. But soon enough... Anger. Auroraflame knew that she was at fault. That was something that not even she could deny. But hadn't she been doing the right thing? Maybe she hadn't gone about doing it in a way that was good for Grousestar, but her intentions had been well and she hadn't meant to harm anyone. If anything, she was trying to save her innocent clanmates. The deputy turned at Grousestar, not caring if he wanted to look back at her or not, and shot him a defiant glare, one of which was full with flames of anger. Her anger would die down later, and the sadness and guilt would hit her harder later, but for now she was furious.

Don't you see what a mess you've dragged SkyClan into? You dump all this pressure on me to fix your mess and then you demote me when all I've tried to do is the right thing? She had to bite her lip to stop these words from coming out. Instead, the emotion that she had in those words came out in her tears, which were now rolling steadily down her cheek. But she didn't sniffle or sob, but rather just silently cried with her head held high and eyes dark with pain. She refused to appear weak, despite the fact that she was already crying. Usually she would've scoffed at herself for crying, but she couldn't kick herself this time. How could she blame herself for crying when she had just had her passion taken away from her?

Auroraflame finally found feeling in her legs and walked stiffly beside Grousestar. She said nothing, keeping a couple of foxlengths away and pondered on her dark, stormy thoughts. Her tears had dried up and instead her eyes were colder and darker than they'd ever been before. She refused to glance at her leader. She knew she wouldn't be ignoring him for too long, but at least for the next few hours she wouldn't have a single thing to say the leader.

Amberfire grinned down warmly at her new apprentice.
“Lead the way! Today, I’m letting you take the tour.” Amberfire wished her mentor back in Thunderclan had let her do this. This could be her chance to fix that! She would teach Scorchpaw how to be kind and happy in all things, and she would be a great warrior, and first an amazing pupil.
Amberfire herself had always been eager to learn, but Scorchpaw seemed more quiet. Maybe she didn’t like being put in charge!
Well, let’s see.
Amberfire gazed excitedly around the territory. It was like she was the apprentice, but here Scorchpaw was, and Amberfire wanted her to enjoy her first day.
She blinked her large orange eyes toward a big tree nearby. She had forgotten its name...
The name meant it was a landmark. Foxdung! She felt a bit disheartened. What if Scorchpaw walked towards a stone and asked her if it was a landmark or not, and she forgot? Maybe Scorchpaw wouldn’t like her then, maybe even think that she was dumb, or not fit to be a mentor!

Scorchpaw's bright green orbs widened with surprise, and she gazed around with wonder. Where should she and her mentor explore first? There were so many places and things to discover and learn about! Feeling excitement bubble in her chest, she smiled shyly and gestured with her tail to indicate their left, where a small path with gorgeous ferns. She padded towards it, then paused, glancing back to make sure Amberfire was close behind. Then she continued down the path , the ground warm underneath her paws. She breathed in the scents of the forest around her. She smiled softly to herself, enjoying the exhilaration of being in different surroundings for the first time. She paused to admire some lovely pink flowers, their gorgeous petals flourishing. She purred with delight as she sniffed them, the pleasant scent filling her nose. A butterfly suddenly landed on her nose, and the tickling made her sneeze. She shook her head , then continued along, pausing every now and then to study or sniff something that captured her interest. After a little while, she glanced at her mentor."Um... what can you teach the warrior code? What is it about...?"

Ring lazily rolled one mint colored orb back into her head, before reaching out a plump paw to flick the orange leaf back up into the air deftly. It was leaffall now, and Ringpaw could feel the tension in the air as the first frost was cooling down, ready to pounce the second greenleaf was over. Of course, this was all new to Ringpaw. The vibrant leaves decorated her home in a magical haze of color; red, yellow, and orange decked every branch in the woodland. Ringpaw couldn’t imagine a more surreal place other than here, with the sharp crisp air and the stunning leaves floating softly around her. For about an hour she had laid there, drifting in and out of consciousness. Ringpaw hadn’t been to this clearing for a long time, not since before she had become Shinefang’s apprentice. Oh how life had changed since then... One day she was just hiding here from her violent mentor, and the next she was so busy she could never dream of coming here. But lately the days were slow in the medicine den, and she had surprisingly a lot of time on her paws. The calico had since been delved into the land of the clans, with the warring and disputes and dishonesty.
I wonder how Auroraflame’s doing... Ringpaw wondered. Maybe she would go and check in on the black shecat later today. Ringpaw, like many others, had been shocked that Skyclan’s deputy of all cats had been sneaking out to talk with other clan cats. How? Why? Ringpaw just wondered how it had slipped under her nose. Was Shinefang in on something? How lost was she?
That’s why today was so wonderful. She had a chance to escape that life for a brief second, and enjoy a few favorable moments to herself. Even though Ringpaw wouldn’t trade her life for anything in the world, it was good to just take a breath and find a new pace for herself. She hadn’t checked in on any of her old friends in awhile... Ringpaw felt a stab of guilt. Neglecting her old life for a new one wasn’t okay. She really needed to fix that. But nevertheless, it was a beautiful day to spend relaxing.
Ringpaw swatted at the reddish leaf floating above her, and as it slowly sank towards her muzzle she blew it upwards into the air with a huff. It hovered there for a second, before landing on her exposed belly. She was rolled on her back, basking in the faint sunlight that was fleeting with the new season. The calico felt a rush of calm down her spine. It was a rare good day, and Ringpaw was enjoying every second of it.

Entering the territory, Raccoonpaw was hoping for something exciting to happen. She was someone who liked fast, exciting, interesting days. Lately, it felt like everything had just been sort of… blah. Her mentor had forbidden her to take part in any battles, although she was certain she would be getting involved anyways, and the few interesting cats that she did meet were always busy with their own work. Raccoonpaw was not always the most work-motivated feline… she preferred something new to repetition, and that was what training felt like. Just repeating the same motions, over and over again. So here she was, out in the territory, looking for an adventure and feeling pretty confident that today was going to be just like any other boring, traditional day. That was before she caught sight of Ringpaw. The two of them had been best friends for awhile - Raccoonpaw adored her friend, and the feeling seemed to be mutual. It was so nice, having someone special that she could talk to and laugh with, and it had been far too long since the two of them had gotten together. A smile broke out on the she-cat’s face, and she sped up, preparing to pounce on the smaller she cat (although no malice was intended, it was all in good fun), hoping that Ringpaw wouldn’t hear her coming. The medicine cat apprentice wasn’t exactly trained as a warrior, so Raccoonpaw was guessing that she would be safe. With a fierce battle cry, the she cat dove through the air, her eyes sparkling wildly, attempting to land on top of the other cat. Her day was looking up, and definitely looking a whole lot more interesting… thanks to one very sweet, very incredible friend of hers.

Im crying, Ring’s bringing on the heartache

As a high-pitched shriek shattered the air, Ringpaw jolted back to look up just as a blurry cat flashed over top of her. Letting out an eep! Ringpaw stared up into the face of someone familiar. Even though a paw was pressed onto her chest very uncomfortably, Ringpaw couldn’t fight the smile that broke out over her muzzle in surprise and happiness. “Raccoonpaw!” She exclaimed joyfully, her eyes shimmering with delight. Carefully rolling out from under her friend, the calico jumped to her paws immediately to rub her muzzle against Raccoonpaw’s cheek in greeting. Pulling back, she grinned softly at the molly. “I haven’t seen you in so long? How’d you know I was here? How’s your training going?” Ringpaw smiled. She had so many questions, it was wonderful to see some of her old friends around Skyclan. Just saying hi in the clearing wasn’t enough, Ringpaw missed the few cats she had hung out with before becoming a medicine cat. Ringpaw hadn’t talked with Raccoonpaw in so long, Ringpaw could hardly believe that they had even slept in the same den before. Unsheathing her claws and resheathing them rapidly, she pricked the grass nearby in impatience. It was a wonderful day, but of course Ringpaw couldn’t wait to catch up with her friend. “Tell me about everything! I haven’t seen you in so long, you know you can stop by anytime you want to chat.” Ringpaw said excitedly, her eyes wide in joy. She sat her rump down on the cool grass, beckoning for Raccoonpaw to sit next to her. I really need to keep in touch with her. Ringpaw thought guiltily, although her happy expression never dimmed from her excitement. “I can’t believe you found me! I thought no one really came here.” She purred, chattering more.

Raccoonpaw’s eyes lit up as Ringpaw greeted her. It had been so long, she wasn’t sure if the she-cat would still be as open and playful with her, but it seemed like nothing had changed. Nothing ever changed with the two of them. This was why Raccoonpaw was sure… her crush had to be mutual. She was old enough now to know, and she was completely sure of it. ”Ringpaw, you are just absolutely adorable.” Raccoonpaw laughed, waiting a moment to see her friend’s reaction before diving into the details of her training and personal life. ”My mentor says I’m getting really good at battle training, but hunting’s still a challenge - I don’t know why! I should be better at it by now! And, uh… oh! This really annoying tom started flirting with me the other day, and he wasn’t looking where he was going, and he smacked into this mean warrior who gave us both a lecture on respect and vigilance!” She smiled at the memory, although it had been pretty annoying. Raccoonpaw was growing up, and at this point, even though she wasn’t interested, there were a lot of toms who thought they could charm her. She remained, of course, stubbornly fixated on her best friend. ”But enough about me, what about you? What has our gorgeous and incredible medicine cat apprentice been up to these days?” Raccoonpaw was hoping that Ringpaw would get the hint this time. She’d been dropping compliments left and right lately… surely her best friend couldn’t think that was normal? That nothing was going on? Raccoonpaw was not a natural-born flirt, and it was hard enough to get the words out even in front of Ringpaw, so she was really hoping this would all be over soon. That the medicine cat apprentice would take the hint. After all, there wasn’t a better duo out there - they should get a future! The she cat knew that the Code said medicine cats couldn’t have a mate, or kits… but… weren’t some rules made to be broken? Weren’t there some things that were worth taking a risk?
(ahhh poor Raccoon, she's trying so hard :c )

Sunpaw walked up to his mentor and he looked at him.
"What are we going to do today?" He asked with a little bounce. He was hoping they would do battle training but he was pretty sure that they would go hunting because that was one thing he was not good at.

Ringpaw smiled bashfully at Raccoonpaw as she mentioned that she was adorable. Raccoonpaw was too sweet, even after Ringpaw had abandoned her for moons. The calico legitimately believed that she didn’t deserve Raccoonpaw’s friendship- even though Ringpaw couldn’t help but keep it selfishly. “Aw, Coon.” She purred, staring at the molly in front of her. Raccoonpaw is much too loving. Ringpaw mused, smiling at her best friend. Ringpaw remembered the forest walks they had had before, and the undeniable sympathy her friend had provided about Ringpaw’s old mentor had been so sweet and caring. Snapbranch had been awful, it had been a dream to be able to open up to someone who would listen, and would try her hardest to understand... Ringpaw thought of Raccoonpaw as a breath of reality and almost like a lifeboat, a cat who would gladly lend a paw for Ringpaw’s benefit. “I hope you know how amazing you are, Raccoonpaw. I miss talking to you about everything,” Ringpaw explained lightly, her smile broadening with her nostalgic memories of before her new rank. Not that she wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, but sometimes she missed the easy days spent horsing around with Raccoonpaw. Ringpaw curled her tail around her orange and brown paws as she listened intently to Raccoonpaw’s story. She stuck out her pink tongue in disgust at the tom flirting with her. “I bet that was awful. I got lectured all the time for goofing off, especially by Mr. Grump.” Ringpaw meowed sadly, thinking about her old mentor. Snapbranch had been furious when she had left, boiling with rage even. Ringpaw wasn’t completely sure if she should steer clear of him, he sometimes shot her dark and angry glares at her. They cast a deep shadow over her, and she couldn’t help but notice the shivering down her spine as she remembered the chills it brought on. ”Gorgeous and incredible? You seem a lot more interesting than boring old me. I hope you haven’t forgotten how incredible you are sometimes.” Ringpaw laughed airily, blinking her eyes. Raccoonpaw really needed to take a compliment now and then, she was much too sweet and wonderful to not get them every second. ”I doubt that.” She chuckled, turning her head back and forth. ”But to answer your question, not much. The den has been really empty lately, and Shinefang has been mainly trying to educate me on herbs and other concoctions. I can’t remember them at all, the other day I could hardly remember what willow bark was for, even though Shinefang uses it all the time. I haven’t gotten out in a while, it’s been a bit busy with training even though there aren’t many injuries.” Ringpaw noticed an odd look on her friend’s face, but it blended in. It was happy and a bit interested, so that was normal, but the way she had been looking at Ringpaw was intense. Ringpaw cocked one eyebrow, but dismissed her thoughts. Of course Raccoonpaw was intense, she hadn’t seen a close friend in ages. It had been so easy to slide into conversation with Raccoonpaw, perhaps Ringpaw was missing something. Everything had to be alright, Raccoonpaw wasn’t one to cause trouble. Maybe Ringpaw should start visiting her old friends more often, especially this one who had always been supportive and kind to the calico.
(Ring’s really pushing it. entirely clueless but also flirting at the same time without realizing what she’s doing ;u;

Raccoonpaw smiled inwardly, the warmth of it spreading through her chest and putting butterflies in her stomach. At least she’d gotten a reaction this time. Her words hadn’t been brushed off as nothing. We can do this… right? She knew some rules shouldn’t be messed with. But this was a silly rule! Ringpaw deserved to be happy too, and besides, wasn’t this also standing in the way of Raccoonpaw’s happiness? Shouldn’t she get a family, a “happily-ever-after” too? She couldn’t seem to come up with a future where she’d get that happiness without Ringpaw. There had to be some way around the rules - maybe they could be together without actually ever being mates. A secret, in a way. Raccoonpaw would have liked that, but she wasn’t sure what Ringpaw would say. The feline was much too sweet to want to do something like that, and Raccoonpaw didn’t want her to lose her rank. She’d had a hard enough time with her old mentor… that had been both a simpler time and one that Raccoonpaw never wanted to revisit. She remembered how angry she’d been that Ringpaw wasn’t being treated well. She remembered that they’d gotten to spend a lot more time together, walking and talking, laughing, playing, just best friends. Yes, that had been a simpler time, but Raccoonpaw didn’t want to go back.

Change was a good thing. Change was the foundation of all the major points in her life. This was a good thing. Raccoonpaw could feel herself grinning at the compliment, despite the innocence of it. In her mind, Ringpaw was sending signals to her that she was ready for Raccoonpaw to try and figure out a future with them together. She couldn’t help it. Raccoonpaw was so hopeful for this future, that even though Ringpaw wasn’t trying to express interest, that was all she could see in it. ”Y’know, you’re the only one who calls me amazing?” She mewed, stopping for a moment before she laughed. ”And the only one who can say they miss talking to me,” She added, a purr rumbling in her throat. Raccoonpaw was not known for her acceptance towards everyone. Most of the time she ended up ticking someone off, especially when they made a comment that she didn’t agree with or when they were just particularly slow. But she was never angry with Ringpaw. The medicine cat apprentice didn’t deserve her anger, because although she may not always understand Raccoonpaw’s intentions, she was still the sweetest cat Raccoonpaw had ever met.

”He was the worst. I’m so glad he’s not training you anymore, you deserved a better mentor.” Her eyes narrowed, and she cautiously put her tail around Ringpaw - of course the she cat would let it remain there, because she would think nothing of it, but the contact was welcome to Raccoonpaw. It wasn’t like she never got it, but she hadn’t thought much of it until recently, when she’d realized exactly how she felt. And now it was very, very special indeed.

”Pfft, no one in their right mind would call you boring.” It was hard to respond to Ringpaw’s compliments - mainly because Raccoonpaw would find herself getting flustered, and didn’t want to lose her confident exterior when she was trying to win her over - but Raccoonpaw was trying. She could feel her pelt heating up at Ringpaw’s use of the word “incredible” to describe her again, and cleared her throat, ducking her head so that her embarrassment wouldn’t show as much.

”But, um… thank you.” Keeping her voice steady was hard, but Raccoonpaw gave herself a mental party for not letting her emotions get the best of her. She nodded as Ringpaw spoke about her training, although only parts of it made sense to her. She could never be a medicine cat’s apprentice. It would be way, way too hard for her to be cooped up like that. And she wouldn’t do well, trying to help the injured cats feel better. But Ringpaw? Ringpaw was perfect for that kind of work. Which was exactly why Raccoonpaw fully supported her, even though she was still trying to find a way they could have a future… together.

Gorgekit smiled as her mother licked the top of her head. "Don't worry mom, I will!" she purred and continued walking, making sure to leap over all of the sticks and twigs she came across.
Paledusk looked at her daughter as she leapt over sticks and twigs she came across. "Don't let this place's calm surroundings fool you, my dear, this place can be dangerous for a kitten to go wander around, which is why I didn't quite want to go, if you were to go run off, that would worry me like crazy." She admitted and walked by Gorgekit's side, gazing around every now and then to make sure no one or nothing was close.

Which was exactly why Raccoonpaw fully supported her, even though she was still trying to find a way they could have a future… together.

Ringpaw watched Raccoonpaw’s reaction, and she adored the smile that graced the other apprentice’s face. Ringpaw liked making others smile, it was nice to see that someone cared about what she said, or that she made someone feel better. Like the other day, when she had removed a tick from an elders back. Nothing big, just a commodity- it was her job now-, but the elder had given Ringpaw the biggest smile someone would have never imagined on a grumpy old tom. He had been so sweet to her, Ringpaw felt blessed to have been treated that why over a pesky insect. But Ringpaw saw that smile flicker on Raccoonpaw’s face as thoughts ran through her head. The calico wondered what they were, why was Raccoonpaw disappointed? She had gone from pleased to disappointed in a moment, but it was Ringpaw’s place to ask about it. Raccoonpaw was so sweet, Ringpaw trusted her friend fully- she didn’t need to worry. I wonder what Raccoonpaw thinks of my rank... I’m sure she’s a bit resentful towards it. But who cares? I’m sure I can apologize about neglecting my past friendships.
Ringpaw laughed. “I’m the only cat? That’s hard to believe!” Ringpaw purred, smiling upwards bashfully. “You’re probably much more polite and sweet than I’ll ever be. I just sass-mouthed the new Thunderclan medicine cat. I’m surprised that she didn’t claw my ears off,” Ringpaw laughed, remembering that chaotic morning. “And miss talking to you? You’re like an omission, critical detail that’s been forgotten. Well, now I’m here and you’re here- and everything’s back to normal.” Ringpaw said. Better than normal, you and Shinefang have paid me too much forgiveness. Shinefang probably hates me at this point- not sure for what, but I can imagine him hating me. You’ve been way too forgiving, take some charity Raccoonpaw. Ringpaw laughed inwardly, although she was sure that Shinefang didn’t hate her too much. Ringpaw felt her smile fading for a few seconds. “Y’know, I’m really sorry about the past few moons. I should have come to you, not you stumbling upon me. Sorry about the whole ‘forgetting you’ thing- you’re too forgiving though.” Ringpaw’s joking smile returned. “Take a few moments to yell at me.” The calico purred in a laugh, not sure whether to expect Raccoonpaw to actually tell her off or just laugh. It was so like the she-cat to be too kind- but maybe this time she’d actually give Ringpaw what she deserved. A long lecture sounded good to her.
As Raccoonpaw’s warm tail wrapped around Ringpaw’s back, Ringpaw simply dismissed it as a sympathetic gesture. She was grateful for it, as she agreed with Raccoonpaw about Snapbranch. “He was awful- even to you! He always got angry when we hung out. He was so unfair.” Ringpaw sneered angrily. Besides, now with him out of the way, her and Raccoonpaw could play and talk whenever they wanted, of course, when Ringpaw’s schedule allowed. But it was good right now, when the den was slow and Shinefang didn’t need her to do anything for him.
“Boring? No, no ones outright said it... but I know that they’re thinking it. Even now some cats see me as a blank cat, it’s off, but I don’t mind them. They’re not important, like you, as you actually care about me.” Ringpaw noted, turning to look adoringly at Raccoonpaw. This cat was much too precious, how did she not have a fan group of cats swarming around her? How was she not one of the most popular cats around? How? Maybe Ringpaw was missing something- but to the calico, Raccoonpaw was the sweetest and funniest thing ever. How could anyone not like her?
Ringpaw noted the wavering in Raccoonpaw’s voice. “You’re welcome.” Ringpaw purred, although her eyes depended with concern. “Are, are you okay?” She stuttered. She wasn’t exactly the best at reading emotions, but she could see them there. She could place joy and disappointment, but Raccoonpaw didn’t seem like either. What was she thinking? What was going on? Ringpaw hated not knowing, and she looked warmly at Raccoonpaw, waiting for a response.

Gorgekit didn't really understand what her mother was talking about. This "forest" seemed pretty safe to her. But she didn't want to make her mother upset and decided to follow by her rules. "I'll make sure to stay right by your side, mom!" she assured.
Then there was a rustling in the grass and a young rabbit stumbled into a nearby clearing. Gorgekit froze with shock and bewilderment at this and slowly backed up into her mother. "Mommy, why is the fresh-kill moving?!" she quietly screamed.

Then there was a rustling in the grass and a young rabbit stumbled into a nearby clearing. Gorgekit froze with shock and bewilderment at this and slowly backed up into her mother. "Mommy, why is the fresh-kill moving?!" she quietly screamed.
Paledusk looked down at her daughter every now and then, surprised when she felt her back up into her, she looked at the rabbit and moved her tail enough to scare it away. "That's because it's not dead yet, we have to hunt it down before it actually becomes a fresh-kill." She explained as she looked down at Gorgekit.

He couldn’t help the proud smile man hat found so its way to his face at the mention of his mentor. He absolutely adored the black-furred feline, she was his idol. Not just because she held a high rank in the clan. But he approached hoe patient she always was with him, and how hard she made him work. He’d learned a lot for an apprentice his age. “Yep, and if there’s one thing in this world I’m grateful for, its for her being my mentor.” There’s was a ringing truth to those words. Blazepaw moves his head to the side a little, pretending to think about what Redpaw as said. He straightened up after a moment, inwardly rolling his eyes at himself. No need in trying to cover it up, it was true. “Oh you bet! She says I’m very skilled and I show great promise to be an excellent warrior.” His chest puffed out in pride, his heart leaping from excitement in just remembering the words his mentor had said.

“Jumping from tree to tree...” A spark lit Blazepaw’s green eyes as he pondered the thought. He’d never tried it yet, Auroraflame and him hadn’t gotten to quite that advanced of tree-climbing skills. But to him, just the thought of it sounded exhilarating. He absolutely had to try it. As soon as possible. Because Blazepaw was a simple “do it” kind of cat. He would do anything that he thought would be fun, anything that enticed his sense of adventure and thrill-seeking. “You know, I’ve actually never tried that but it sounds really fun!” His limbs were now burning with that electrical energy that always surged through his bloodstream when his excitement levels rose. It was what one could call a very “pure form of adrenaline”, it was untapped by any doubt or fear, just simple anticipation for some fun.

With the energy buzzing in his ears, he barely heard Redpaw muse about the names he’d suggested. But he caught them at the last moment, as well as get question afterwards. That stilled his budding nerves for a moment to allow him to think. He didn’t want her to think he was ignoring her, so he tried to answer as quickly as possible. Even though he hadn’t been spaced out for very long at all. “Actually, all those sound amazing! I especially like Blazehawk. That would make me sound simply... astounding.” He widened his green gaze dramatically when saying the word, humor but some seriousness sparkling from them. “You’re plenty creative! Everyone’s got different ways of expressing it, that’s all.” He gave a little wink, hoping that it might help put her in a more playful mood. He was itching to get up an do something, his entire body was sizzling with his anticipation. He’d been sitting for too long.

When Redpaw got to her paws, Blazepaw immediately followed suit, shooting to his full height with one fluid motion. His eyes widened upon her confession, but it was only a split second before he allowed a smile to break across his face once more. “Why certaintly! I’m the king of fun times of you didn’t know.” His purr was loud and rumbled in his chest as he flicked his tail for the ginger she-cat to follow him. “Chasing birds sounds quite fun. As long as we’re nkt trying to catch them.” He pulled a face at that, laughing a moment after. He really hoped that he would be able to put Redpaw in good spirits. He hated seeing any cat down in the dumps.

Raccoonpaw couldn’t believe anyone would even think to lay a paw on sweet, perfect Ringpaw. At least the other cat hadn’t actually scratched her. Raccoonpaw probably would’ve gone after the ThunderClanner, medicine cat or not. She decided to leave the topic be, so she wouldn’t get more upset - and she wouldn’t be able to see the other side of it, anyways. Ringpaw could do no wrong in her eyes. I dunno why she thinks I’m perfect. Maybe, maybe Ringpaw liked her too. Was it normal for just “best friends” to constantly compliment each other? Think the world of each other? Raccoonpaw wasn’t sure… she couldn’t remember a time when she hadn’t absolutely adored Ringpaw. Or at least, she’d convinced herself that that time didn’t exist. ”Yell at you?” The feline blinked in confusion. She couldn’t do that! Why would she want to? ”Why would I ever do that? You’ve just been busy!” And I love you. There’s that minor detail, too.

She’d almost blurted it out. Raccoonpaw wasn’t that confident yet, and she doubted she ever would be. It was hard! There were… difficult circumstances, after all. Some rules were made to be broken. It was something she lived by, clinging on to a small bit of hope that someday, someday, they would make it. The feline nodded in agreement with Ringpaw’s statement about Snapbranch - she had hated that tom. It was a good thing he was far away from her best friend now, and that Ringpaw was much happier with Shinefang. She didn’t know the medicine cat very well, but she’d heard he had a reputation for being grumpy, and hoped that her friend was safe around him. She had fantasies of Shinefang losing his temper with Ringpaw, getting ready to hurt her, when Raccoonpaw darted in, saved her friend, and they had a talk about their feelings.

I doubt that’ll happen. And besides, she definitely didn’t want Ringpaw in harm’s way. If there was a dangerous situation, her friend should be far away from it. ”Oh. Well, it’s just because they don’t know you yet. Once they do, you’re gonna have tons of cats singing your praises.” Raccoonpaw gave a snort of laughter, and then, a little self conscious about it, cleared her throat. ”Be my best friend, Ringpaw! Share tongues with me, Ringpaw! Won’t you come grace my presence?” She raised her voice in imitation of what (she imagined) the annoying, perhaps slightly stupid cats who fell over themselves to get Ringpaw’s attention would sound like. They couldn’t possibly be normal - Raccoonpaw couldn’t imagine some nice, honorable cat would bug her friend all hours of the day.

”But don’t worry. I’ll scare them away with my social skills and angry face if they bother you.” She grinned, wrapping her tail a little tighter around the other she cat. This was so nice. They never got to do this anymore, and she felt a dull ache when she realized this could be the last time for a while. ”Me? Oh, I couldn’t be better!” LIE! Her brain screamed at her, and Raccoonpaw pinned her ears against her head. ”Actually, there is… something.” Tell her. Just say it! Just do something, Raccoonpaw! Not now. Not ever. She couldn’t say anything yet, not until she was sure… but what if this was the last time she saw Ringpaw? What if something happened tomorrow, and she got killed, or taken from the Clan, or - StarClan forbid - something happened to Ringpaw? Raccoonpaw couldn’t handle that. She’d probably die of a broken heart, and then where would they be? She lowered her head, suddenly shy at the prospect of saying anything. It wasn’t like her to be shy! It wasn’t like her to feel awkward around her best friend! This wasn’t them - that was the best part about it!

”But, uh, maybe we shouldn’t talk about it right now.” Very smooth. Raccoonpaw knew she’d chickened out. Why was she backing out now? They’d been so close, and if Ringpaw felt the same way… she wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore. But it was too much. She couldn’t handle that right now. The only question she had was… what would happen if she was pushed?

Jason stalked through Skyclan territory almost unaware of his surroundings. He wasn't used to clan territory because he rarely crossed clan borders. He wasn't scared he just didn't know where he was. Jason continued to walk through the territory looking around for any other cats around him at the moment. He smiled once he saw that no one was near him at the moment. Using his speed Jason quickly ran through part of the territory. Jason never spoke so he didn't know what he was going to do if he met a clan cat at this point in time. Shrugging it off he sat down to rest unaware that there was a cat somewhere watching him and ready to see what he was up too. He had cats before question him and then get mad at him and leave him with a few cuts. That's the reason for his scars all around. Even when he gets attacked he refuses to answer only because he knows he's stronger than most cats. That was his plan at the moment show the other cats who the boss is.

Twofights slunk between the trees, his muscles rippling under his finger and white pelt. He leaped into the trees, leaping from tree to tree until he found his favorite tree. A huge old cedar tree with a large hollow in it. He sighed and draped his paws out of the opening, curling at the edge. He cast his gaze around the area under the tree, his ears flicking, he smiled at the bird song, it always made himself smile.

Evening light pooled in thought the trees above as the ginger and white tabby made her why though SkyClan territory. This was Ambershine's absolute favorite time of day, the sun just low enough to light the leaves and ground in a beautiful orange shine that was warm. It made the forest fell so warm and cozy. Prey tended to come out around this time too. Ginger paws lightly stepping around leaves and twigs the molly continued taking in the view. It was so pretty! Night hunting had to be her favorite pass time but going for a run of stroll right as the sun was setting always filled her with energy.
Stopping a leaf landed right on her nose making her sneeze before letting out a laugh. With a jump the young warrior landed in a pile of sun lit leaves spreading them everywhere. Yeah Ambershine could be a responsible warrior but at times she was as playful as a kit, this was one of those times. Rolling on her back the female batted at the leaves around her a giggle and purr coming from her. No one was around so she had no reason to act mature.

They’d been so close, and if Ringpaw felt the same way… she wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore. But it was too much. She couldn’t handle that right now. The only question she had was… what would happen if she was pushed?

Ringpaw rolled her eyes, sighing in mock disgust. “Oh Raccoonpaw.” She purred, trying to hold a disappointed expression for some odd reason, before her smile broke free once more. “Eh, lots of cats yell at me. It’s natural for them to disagree with me- I’m just a very agitating cat in general. ]Not sweet like you, or funny like Flickerpaw. I’m just Shinefang’s apprentice, if I’m being honest with you Raccoonpaw. She thought, continuing the conversation in her head. But she didn’t dare say it aloud. For some strange reason, Raccoonpaw acted as if Ringpaw was perfect- but why? This innocent- sweet little kitten was amazing. Raccoonpaw was perfect in her own way- sympathetic, supportive, kind, caring, humorous. Why did she always point out the flaws that she didn’t have? Ringpaw felt prickles of discomfort up her spine, settling where Raccoonpaw’s long tail was curled around her. Her fur quivered and twitched a bit, before the warmth spread farther and turned more pleasant in the chilly morning air.
It was odd, Raccoonpaw never agreed that Ringpaw had flaws. She only said “no, never!” It made Ringpaw feel a bit better about herself, for that she was grateful. Ringpaw, when she first came to Skyclan, had cats ignoring her. She missed Snowbranch still, the white shecat had been like a temporary mother to the small calico kit. What had happened? Ringpaw swore she had done something. Something to make her only friend run away. But now she had Raccoonpaw, Flickerpaw, and Shinefang. Who cared about anyone else? Ringpaw really should get out more and spend time with her friends, she was missing so much cooped up in the medicine den. Besides, what happens when Shinefang retires? Ringpaw has her whole apprenticeship to spend time with her friends, because one day she wouldn’t be able to give Raccoonpaw all the time and devotion she deserved- Ringpaw wanted to spend time with her while she could. Ringpaw nodded back to Raccoonpaw’s nod. “I’m lucky to have Shinefang. He’s a big fat grump, but he understands my feelings and tries to make learning and memorizing easier for me. I’ve learned a lot- and he used to be a warrior, too! He was going to teach me to fight better, but his joints are acting up.” She meowed sadly, staring down at her paws.
Ringpaw laughed and snickered behind one brown paw, watching Raccoonpaw imitate high-pitched idiotic fanatics. Ringpaw could easily see how it would apply to every other medicine cat- not her though. “Pff, that’s what you think. You’d be surprised by how much I’m ignored. All of the medicine cats I got to talk to all left. Besides, everyone listens to Shinefang and Daydream.” She said, listing the two popular medicine cats. They commanded attention wherever they went- they were like skyscrapers towering over tiny lil Ringpaw.
Ringpaw watched the fluttering emotions over her friend’s face. What was happening? She looked sick or something, like she was swimming in the river and her face was turning pale as she got seasick. She also looked embarrassed. What is it? She thought. Was Raccoonpaw hiding something? The sweet shecat didn’t really have anything to hide, right?
Ringpaw looked confused. “What is it? Why can’t we talk about it now?” Maybe things really had changed, perhaps Raccoonpaw had a secret to tell.

Cutltail nodded and rested her head on his back. She began to feel warmth as they laid there together.
He purred, his eyes closing, and he fell asleep, murmuring, "I love you.. Curltail.."

Curltail yawned, "I love you too." She slowly began to drift off to sleep along with him.

Curltail, made her way out of the camp to get away from her clanmates. She didn't exactly feel all that well and didn't know what was wrong. The molly looked at her paws as she walked. Curltail sniffed the air and scented a squirrel nearby. She got into a hunters crouch and stalked forward. "I got you." she whispered. She stepped in a twig and watched the squirrel go running. Curltail sprang after it, jumping into a tree where the squirrel had gone.

Milkywillow tried to hide her amusement as the tom was so exited. “Alright well start by going to the RiverClan border okay?” She meowed calmly. She tried to not see herself in him but she couldn’t stop it. “Let’s go!” She meowed starting by walking slowly trying to walk slower to keep his pace. “Is Skykit your best friend?” She asked trying to keep Eaglepaw’s mind busy. Milkywillow smelt a songthrush but had to fight her instincts to hunt because, she had an objective,Eaglepaw. She had to not hunt, she could do that later right now Eaglepaw was important.

"Okay!" Eaglepaw couldn't hide his excitement. He walked quickly beside the molly, the sunshine filtering through the leaves. Eaglepaw decided He liked Milkywillow. He listened intently to his mentor. "Well no, Skykit is my friend, but not my best friend" He explained. "Bellkit, her sister is my best friend!" He said. He could smell something funny. It smelt like the fresh kill pile. Well, we've got to get to the border first! He thought to himself. "Where's the border?" Eaglepaw asked.

(Sorry it’s a bit shorter than usual, doing this before the bus ‘uwu)

Raccoonpaw blinked in surprise. You don’t know how to fight? It had never occurred to her that any cat could be left defenseless, but Ringpaw not knowing what to do in a fight filled her with a sense of dread. What if warriors weren’t there to protect her? What if Raccoonpaw wasn’t there? Shinefang was a wonderful medicine cat, but he was probably too old to protect the younger she cat very well. ”I’ll teach you!” She blurted out, removing her tail from around Ringpaw. Raccoonpaw stopped for a second after she had spoken, making a “did I really just say that” face before she shrugged. It would be easy enough to teach her. And the close contact wouldn’t unsettle her - she was past that stage, right? She didn’t mind tackling Ringpaw, pinning her down with soft paws, so close - no. She would be fine. They would both be fine, and there was no reason for Raccoonpaw to pretend otherwise. Besides, it would be a chance to spend more time with her best friend. ”Um, I…” Raccoonpaw felt her pelt heating up again.

Why couldn’t she just be normal? Why couldn’t she tell Ringpaw how she felt? There was nothing wrong with having feelings, and there was nothing wrong with acting on them, either! They deserved to be happy. They deserved to be together. Who was a better match for Ringpaw than herself? And, it had already been established long ago that Raccoonpaw would never feel the same way about anyone other than Ringpaw. ”Have you ever been in love, Ringpaw?” Oh, good start. Raccoonpaw was becoming better at subtlety, but even so, her heartbeat quickened a little. What if Ringpaw read between the lines? What if she understood what Raccoonpaw was saying? Would that be such a bad thing? It was forbidden. They couldn’t be together, because of the stupid Code, because some medicine cat long ago had done something stupid. Ringpaw would be stripped of her rank.

Raccoonpaw would never want that to happen, not when she was so happy... and after all, if you loved somebody, you should let them go, right? There might be ways to keep it a secret. To keep it hidden away from Shinefang, and all the other warriors and curious cats who would question them. Raccoonpaw could keep it a secret. She could do anything, if it meant that the two of them could get the ending they deserved.
