Default SOMETHING TO FIGHT FOR ☆ TRAINING

AND IT NEVER MADE ANY SENSE, ANYTHING
── ⋅ ⋅ ── ❀ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──
MAGGOTPAW . 10 MOONS . IT/THEY . WINDCLAN
SILVER TONGUE T1

Training is the worst. All this stupid stuff you have to run around and do all so that your name gets changed from the one you're already begrudgingly used to to the one the leader wants for you. Maggotpaw hates being a warrior cats oc having to do all these things. Hunting was fun, because it's fun to run and to jump on things, but all the rest...it really couldn't care less.

Or, that's how it had thought for most of its training, anyway. These initial four-almost-five moons have been slow and unambitious. It'd fallen into a habit of hiding from Whisperinghive, making itself busy around the elders' den as an excuse not to do anything else, slacking off willfully because it just didn't want to do any of that other stuff.

But now Leopardflight has a new name and a new rank.

Now Maggotpaw's closing in on the frail old elders in size.

All these cats that they had grown so used to protecting and coddling it couldn't be expected to do that forever, could they? A harrowing thought (Maggotpaw needs to be babied by somebody!!!), but one that came with a glimmering new prospect: what if it's Maggotpaw's turn to be big and brave? What would that be like? They spend a full night thinking about it before acting on it in the morning. It doesn't matter who shows them how to do it, just that somebody does. The scrawny apprentice marches itself right up to the warriors' den, shoving its gaunt little face in. Eeny, meeny...

"Applegrove. You have to teach me how to fight now. You have to do it right now or else, okay? Whisperinghive and Crowtooth and Twilightstar all said so just now." Maybe some light fibbing will really sell the urgency of this matter.

Applegrove
wc warrior | she/he

Applegrove had just settled into his nest for a nap, deeming the chilly weather worthy of a cozy afternoon. The snow in the territory the past couple days had been miserable, and though she did her part of hunting there was veritably little to catch. Unfortunately, it seemed some people had other plans. At the sound of her name, she blinked open her eyes to be met with Maggotpaw's face in hers, the apprentice seeming rather urgent about something.

"Well, hello to you too," she grumbled, shaking out limbs that had already grown stiff from her short stint curled up. After taking a moment to get his thoughts straight and comprehend was Maggotpaw was actually trying to communicate, she arrived at the conclusion that she was being volun-told to handle some apprentice training. Well, it probably was a better use of his time than napping, at the very least.

"Whisperinghive, Crowtooth, and Twilightstar too? Your training must be top priority. I'm a bit flattered to receive such a high order." He grinned, indulging what he suspected to be a great exaggeration. Unless he had missed something and this kid was indeed WindClan's most promising up-and-coming warrior. To be fair he had missed the last clan meeting, so who's to say? "Alright then, kiddo. Let's go."

She led the way out the den and into a far corner of the clearing, deciding it was empty enough for battle training. "You got anything to show yet? Or are we starting from scratch?"

Whether done honestly or not, Applegrove's earned its approval by playing along. Maggotpaw nods solemnly at the comment about how high of an order this is, but doesn't yet stop to say anything more on the matter. They're, instead, busy pacing a tight and impatient little circle right outside of the warriors' den as they wait for her to pick where they'll be doing this. In camp, it looks like. Good. Outside of camp is where all those dirty rotten twolegs are and Maggotpaw, shameless beast that it is, isn't daunted by the possibility of being embarrassed by public failure.

It ambles after Applegrove. "I know how to jump. And I can bite, too. And I can chase a bad cat around all day long. And I can stomp, and hit too, only I haven't ever hit another cat. Not for real anyway. I haven't jumped on anyone before, either. I don't like being jumped on." And it's not a matter of treat others the way you want to be treated because Maggotpaw lives by no such rule, just that pouncing on a denmate more often than not leads to being pounced on in turn. Maggotpaw has always hated playing like that, so it already knows that it'll probably hate this, but it'll do it anyway.

"I am very brave though." Because, see, they're doing one (1) thing that they really, really, really don't want to, and not even complaining yet. "But basically I don't know anything so you have to show it all to me or else I'll..." ....hm. Maggotpaw doesn't know how to threaten him. Right here is usually where they start rambling about how they'll hit you and chase you and stomp you to pieces but Applegrove already knows its dirty secret that it isn't actually any good at any of that. "...Or else I'll yell." It finishes sourly.

Applegrove
wc warrior | he/she

Applegrove nodded as Maggotpaw described what it already knew - seemed like the basic repertoire apprentice with no official battle training had, basic things that could be learned from play in the nursery. At least it was a solid foundation. Applegrove could work with this.

His mouth twitched at Maggotpaw's 'threat'. "Well, I suppose we better get to work then if you're gonna learn everything. I don't think the clan would appreciate a screaming apprentice in the clearing."

The warrior stepped back a few paces, creating some space between her and the apprentice. "Let's start simple and we can build from there. I'm gonna demonstrate a move on an imaginary opponent and then you can try it." Depending on how things went, they might be able to wrap up with a quick sparring session. She paused a moment, deciding what to open with, then darted forward in the empty space and slammed her paw down on an invisible warrior's head.

"That's a basic front strike - you wanna aim for the head," Applegrove stepped back, creating that space between them again. "Depending on the scenario you can use claws to grip the opponent, or simply focus on a hard, blunt strike to stun them. Go ahead and give it a shot."
