Nettlepaw stepped forward to Leopardrift in the training hollow.
“So.. advanced battle... moves? What’s.. first?” they mewed, a hint of excitement in their monotone voice.

Wow, advanced battle training! This’d be the perfect addition for their assessment — the battle part, anyway. It would be pretty cool to show off some new moves to Dandelionmane! Nettlepaw was sure they’d be proud if they managed it.

Leopardrift paused for a moment hearing the slower, monotone speech but he shook it off, nodding to nettle as they squared their broad shoulders. It was a first for them, dealing with an apprentice. But how hard could it be? Although nettle wasnt exactly what he pictured for advanced battle, but what can you do bout it?

"So, since you know the basics why not we start with a drop claw maneuver? You had any climbing training?"

Nettlepaw racked her brain to try and remember. Suddenly, they did just that.

"Oh. Yes.. I have. But I.. wasn't... the best." They mewed affirmatively, and with flick of their tail added, "My sister.. was much.. better."

Leo nodded, pointing his tail towards a low branch.

"We'll start from there then, get you used to it then we'll try higher."

Nettlepaw nodded.
“I’ll give.. it a.. go.” they mewed excitedly, a lopsided smile on their muzzle.

The apprentice hooked their claws into the bark of the tree, climbing up to another branch. They couldn’t remember if it was the right branch, but it was.. around the same level in the tree.

It was probably a few levels higher than the one Leopardrift told them to climb to, but it was.. definitely fine. Yup.

Leopardrift too climbed up standing on the branch above nettle. "Alright, so how the dropclaw works is pretty simple, you land atop a cat from above, an aim for the shoulders and spine aight? For now we'll practice landing without hurting yaself." They nodded, crouching on the branch before leaping below with a thump

Nettlepaw only really heard the instructions on the technique, and seemingly blotted out the other words spouting from Leopardrift’s mouth. Instinctively, they dropped.
Despite the lack of knowledge on the move, Nettlepaw managed to do it.. mostly correctly. For their knowledge of it, it was near-perfect.
Dropping down to the hollow’s dusty floor, they flexed out their claws and aimed for an imaginary cat below’s spine and shoulders.

Once they landed onto the ground, the apprentice rolled to the side and bounced to their paws, looking hopefully up at the warrior.
“Did I.. do that.. right?” they asked inquisitively.

Leo nodded to the apprentice, the twitch of his whisker the only show of his satisfaction. "Well done nettlepaw, how bout you do it a few more times, then we'll move on to more tactics."
