"Oh, hello!" Rabbitpaw blinked at the sudden appearance of another cat. Well, they didn't suddenly appear, but rather Rabbitpaw hadn't been paying attention. Yawning wide enough to close his eyes with the action and as a result accidentally bumping into someone. The medicine apprentice took a paw step back, his ears flicking as he processed who he was looking at. "oh, OH! Hi Nectarpaw, long time no talk!" The herbalist apprentice recalled that apprentice faintly, having met him a long while ago shortly after his first apprentice ceremony. But since then he hasn't heard or seen the apprentice around as much, mostly because he didn't know the tom well and life got pretty hectic.

"What're you up to, this fine morning?" The herbalist asks instead, lifting a paw to wipe at his eyes one more time to make sure the sleepiness was fully gone so he could give the ginger tabby his full attention.

The ginger tom was more focused on licking his shoulder than what was going on around him. So perhaps it was his fault when he was suddenly bumped into a cat. Nectarpaw drew his tounge over his muzzle and glanced up at the stranger with wide eyes. "Oh, sorry!" He sputtered before recognizing Rabbitpaw. "Rabbitpaw! Yeah, it's been a while." he smiled warmly at the tom.

He remembered seeing them when they first got their apprentice name, and now they were medicine cat apprentice. "I'm just trying to clean my pelt, the cold wind keeps blowing snow and dust at me." Nectarpaw let out a goodhearted chuckle. Of course he couldn't be rude and only talk about himself. "Medicine cat apprentice, huh? Congrats!" His nub tail thumped against the cold ground. "Last time we talked you were becoming a tunneler, so I guess you found out your path lied in healing, huh?" he noted, trying to prompt the young cat.

"Oh yeah, though I get to maintain the medicine den, and I still go down with Vinesmoke often so I still get my taste of tunneling." Speaking of, he wanted to ask his dad if he could help his and Vinesmoke's project with the former mink camp, but the blonde filed that thought away for another time. He settled down into a sit, taking Nectarpaw's prompting as wanting to chatter more than the usual small talk. "Yeah, I think I am just starting to believe it. So much happened around the time I was asked to be Miss Lightningstorm's apprentice." He mentioned, but kept the sadder details out ( like his mom being swooped by an owl right in front of him. )

"Anyways, how goes the training? We're getting all sorts of new apprentices interested in tunneling which is great, but I think dad and the others can only handle so many 'paws. I mean, Vinesmoke already has an apprentice of his own, which is crazy for a 9.. err maybe he's 10 moons now." The blonde rambled, happy to meet a friend. Or maybe just a chatter pal if the ginger tabby wasn't interested in being Rabbitpaw's friend.

He listened to Rabbitpaw answering while nodding politely. "Well, I bet your doing great so far!" he surmised. Nectarpaw's green eyes widened, that cat was younger than him and had an apprentice? "That is crazy!" he chuckled, trying to hide his shock.

His ear flicked nervously at the mention of training. He shouldn't mention how long it's taking should he? Nectarpaw didn't want to seem less than. "It's certainly going. My new mentor, Havenfade, will probably help me out." He also didn't want to mention the fact that this was his third mentor. What was Nectarpaw doing wrong that his mentors kept... well.. ignoring him.

He shook his head and smiled. "Your family must be proud of you for doing so well." he purred.

Rabbitpaw replied with a casual smile, hoping that he didn't make the other apprentice feel bad about how his training was coming along. He realized what that could do to a cat, he and Lightningpaw had a.. sort of fight about it. Rabbitpaw did wish that warriors.. or rather all cats had some sort of 'how to train an apprentice' class because all the tossing around can be so damaging, after all Lightningpaw being passed around between... three mentos now certainly didn't help his being behind in training.

"Well I can't leave camp or anything but I did complete all of my tunneler training besides an official assessment before becoming the medicine cat apprentice, so if you need any help or lessons, you know where to find me," He offered instead, offering a well meaning smile that hopefully passed the message of being 'I'm not trying to be mean or suggest anything I just want to help.' Regardless, the blonde paused at the rest of Nectarpaw's words.

"Yeah, my mom, Quailheart, she umm passed away but I hope she's proud looking down from the stars-" Rabbitpaw mewed, happily despite the slight stutters, but his sentence came to an abrupt stop as his brain kicked in with memories of his mom, including their visit to the Starry Meadow where... Green eyes widened and the herbalist looked to Nectarpaw again with a different, almost alarmed expression. There was no way, but it had to be. The name was so uncommon and... Rabbitpaw didn't even realize he was staring.

"I will. he assured Rabbitpaw. He probably guessed how behind training he was, that's why he was offering. But Nectarpaw wouldn't say no to that. Whatever he could do to catch up with the others, he will.

Nectarpaw's eyes softened when Rabbitpaw mention his mother. "I'm sorry. She must be." he dipped his head before looking up and seeing Rabbitpaw's shocked face. He blinked. Did he say something wrong? "Rabbitpaw? Rabbit? You okay?" Nectarpaw shuffled his paws awkwardly. He was so close to making a new friend and now he'd scared them...silent...and staring. His pelt prickled under his unwavering gaze. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to mention a sore subject."
