[ p / training ] Are sunflowers considered herbs, too?

Sunflowerpaw trotted over to the medicine den on light paws, giving the trunk of the hollow den a knock at the entrance. ´´Hiya, Wolfhawk!´´ She purred a greeting, putting a certain emphasis on the suffix of his name to make it clear that she respected him. At first, she hadn't thought that the medicine cat was here, but the faint scent of Wolfhawk made it clear that he was. ´´Do ya have a moment? I'd like to learn about a couple of herbs for my training.´´

Ugh. Who was it now? Wolfhawk's green eyes narrowed as Sunflowerpaw made herself known in his den. Their ears perked up slightly at the mention of him teaching the older apprentice about herbs. As far as the young medicine cat knew, herbal training wasn't part of the requirements to become a warrior. The tripod got up from his laying position and turned to face Sunflowerpaw. Green hues narrowed at them, and Wolfhawk was slightly confused. "First off, why do you need to know herbs? It's a medicine cat's job, not a warrior. Remember me and Hollows are the medicine cats, not you. Second of all. Marigold. That's it, take it or leave it," the brown tripod snarled, not in an attempt of malice, but rather grumpiness or annoyance, per usual.

Sunflowerpaw narrowed her amber hues, ears twitching at the sound of Wolfhawk's harsh voice....though it wasn't as if he wouldn't be like that for once. With a wave of her feathery tail, the golden-and-cream mackerel tabby sat back on her haunches and wrapped it around her paws. ´´I like to think that maybe I should at least know a few things about healing in case something were to happen to either me or a Clanmate that I am with and both you and Hollowpaw are too far away to get to either of you before we get too tired,´´ She explained, her voice quiet. Her whiskers twitched as she met the green gaze of the Medicine Cat. The sharp scent of herbs hit her nose, and Sunflowerpaw wrinkled it a little bit. Her sense of smell was sharper than most of her Clanmates, so it disturbed her more. However, if she wanted to be able to learn a couple of healing remedies and what they were used for, she'd need to get used to the scent. ´´Or if another Clanmate and I are on a journey at all in any point of our lives, y'know.´´

Now Sunflowerpaw was really getting on their nerves. Wolfhawk glared at the older female cat, ignoring what she had said. "Marigold. Take it or leave it," the tripod said once more, green eyes narrowing. "If not, then get your ass out of my den."

“I’ll take it,” Sunflowerpaw meowed quickly, her eyes narrowing. Just because Wolfhawk was ThunderClan’s Medicine Cat didn’t mean he had to be so snappy all the time, but she supposed he had any and every right. “It does something with infection, correct?”

Wolfhawk sighed, green hues narrowing at sunflowerpaw before hobbling into the herb storage, grabbing some marigold. The medicine cat dropped the orange-yellow flower at his paws. "You would be correct with that. It helps with preventing and stopping infections. You would chew it into a pulp and apply it to a cobweb, so it sticks on the wound. That's what I do, at least," he explained, flexing his claws. "However, that is not it's only use. I was taught that it could also helps soothe inflammed or stiff joints. Similar with how you would deal with infection, you would chew it up into a pulp and apply it to the affected area." Now that the brown tripod was finished explaining the use of the orange-yellow herb, he picked it up and put it back into his herb storage. The medic still felt it was unnecessary for the apprentice to learn the use of marigold, but whatever. Not like it would hurt.

When he returned, he gave sunflowerpaw a sharp glare. "Even though you know it's uses, do not try to use them. Bring them to me or hollows instead. I don't need a problem arising because you decided it would be fun to play medicine cat after knowing the uses of marigold. And don't even think of laying a paw on the herb storage unless me or Hollows tell you to, am I clear?" Wolfhawk growled. "Now, Is there anything else you need?"

Sunflowerpaw listened to Wolfhawk intently, nodding along occasionally with the things the medicine cat said. “It helps prevent infection and can soothe aching joints,” She repeated, letting the information sink into her mind. “What about dock?”

[ @Beaan - dock would be considered basic, right? Since it’s used for scratches? ]

...seriously? Wolfhawk frowned at sunflowerpaw, a slight snarl forming on the medics face. "Unless you need anything, Out. Now." A basic and simple order - one the brown tripod hoped the older cat understood. He didn't even need to teach her marigold, and pressing for more herbal knowledge just made them even more annoyed.

“Okay, okay, great StarClan,” Sunflowerpaw growled, ears twitching irritably. Her amber eyes narrowed down to slits, but she got to her paws, shook the herb-dust out of her pelt, and left the den.
