Fallenpaw padded away from Hawkkit, annoyed with herself. How could she have made a kit cry? She was a monster! Narrowing her eyes to the ground, the apprentice sat in her shared den, her gaze fixed to her paws.

Pawsteps. Thumping loud like rumbling thunder. Fleetpaw’s ears perked up and he lifted his head from his paws. Blinking blearily as a denmate trodded into the den. He could hear the heavy emotions in the heaviness of her pawsteps. Shaking his head to clear it, he blinked again. His vision having cleared, he wondered if he should say anything? He could tell that she was feeling down, Fallenpaw was it? It might be…bad for an older apprentice like him to get a name wrong. Of course, he’d never expect anycat else to remember his name. He was pretty forgettable. And it didn’t help that he wasn’t exactly social.
The tall, skinny tom nodded resolutely to himself, deciding to try and help his denmate. As an older apprentice, he should be trying to set an example right? Well…not that he’d say he’s much of an example to follow. But that’s why he should put the effort in! Ears twitching anxiously, he sat up and leaned forward, hoping he could catch the apprentice’s attention. “H-Hey,” he mewed timidly, still internally debating if this was the right call, “a-are…are y-you okay?” His eyes reflecting his sincere concern and bashfulness. He hoped he wasn’t overstepping, maybe she’ll get upset?
Fallenpaw shuddered as more bad thoughts rushed through her head. Everyone hates me! I'm a horrible cat! I'm not good enough! She stared at her paws, not even lifting her head when she heard another cat mew, are you okay? The young she-cat bit back a retort. No, she wasn't okay. But she had to be, because she was Fallenpaw, and she needed to be there for everyone. She sighed. Even Hawkkit. Instead of okey up and telling the tom, though, she didn't meet him in the eyes. Yes. I'm fine. She lied casually, tucking her tail beneath her paws.

Fleetpaw's ear twitched. He wasn't the most socially knowledgable cat ever, but even he could tell that was unconvincing. But that was to be expected, he didn't know this cat well. Why would they trust him. The scarred, skinny tom hung his head and nodded solemnly. "O-Oh...o-okay." He murmured, not sure if he should push her for her thoughts. Maybe she didn't wanna talk about it?
Fleetpaw suddenly had a thought. Remembering the feather a friend had given to him, he gingerly grabbed it from his nest and leaned over, setting it down in Fallenpaw's nest. He was beaming, as though he had found the absolutely perfect solution for what was bothering his denmate. "H-Here." He mewed. "A-A friend...g-gave me that. S-Sometimes...l-looking at it h-helps me feel b-better." He stuttered, still smiling at her. He truly hoped that the feather would help, even a little. It was a pretty feather, but that wasn't the only reason why it helped him. Knowing that somecat cared about him enough to offer him such a gift never failed to lift his spirits. Maybe a kind gesture like this would help Fallenpaw too?
Fallenpaw watched the black pelted apprentice for a second. Her eyes lit up at the offer, and she nodded. It looked almost like one of the feathers that Maggotpaw had given her. Except, of course, it wasn't stomped on. As she wrapped her paw around the feather, her fur brushed Fleetpaw's for a heartbeat. It made her feel a feeling she had never felt before, making her instantly feel a little better. Her heart thumped in her chest, and she flicked her tail.

Fleetpaw noticed the black she-cat eyes brighten, feeling good about his offer. As she reached for the feather and brushed against him, he could hear Fallenpaw's heart rate quicken, sending him into another flurry of anxiety. Had he done something wrong? Did she not like it anymore? He flicked an ear self-consciously, ducking his head. Eyes widened with concern. "I-I-Is s-something wrong?" He asked, tilting his head.
Fallenpaw shook out her pelt, dazed. She had never ever felt this feeling before, and it sent butterflies to her belly. Wha- She started, shocked by the question. She was fine, right? And so was he? That was all that mattered at the moment, wasn't it? Y-yes, I'm F-fine. She tried purring, but it came out so quiet that she could barely hear it herself. Instead, she leaned forward, wanting to feel- that feeling- again.

Was she fine? He wasn't totally convinced. "A-Are y-you sure?" He asked, touching his nose to her's to check for fever. She didn't feel...feverish. Or at least, he didn't think she did. He wasn't a medicine cat, he wasn't entirely sure he knew what feverish even felt like. "W-Why a-are you l-leaning like th-that?" He asked, tilting his head to the side curiously.
Fallenpaw straightened at the question. She didn't want to answer, because, well... She didn't know the answer. Her ears pricked not to listen for sound, but to try to figure out the feeling... more. It kind of felt like she felt for her mother, and her brother. But, it wasn't entirely the same. So... She mumbled, snapping out of her thoughts, and watching him.

Startled, Fleetpaw straightened up when Fallenpaw did, blinking at her in surprise with his ears flattened. As though he were caught in the eyes of a Thunderpath monster. He tilted his head when she spoke again, not sure what she wanted. Shuffling his paws timidly, he was starting to feel more and more self-conscious. Did she think he was weird? Well, probably. He was weird after all. A weakling. Especially now in the heigh of leaf-bare, he probably looked like a scrawny rogue or something.
"Wh-What's w-wrong?" At least he wasn't cold, that usually made his stutter worse. The den was warm though. He perked his ears again, swiveling them as he listened. Her heart-rate sounded okay, so at least she wasn't panicked or stressed or anything. The more she stared though, the more he shrank away. His own heart pounding furiously in his ears.
