She was behind on training, and tired, and sore. But she's been putting off training for far too long. So after untangling herself from her pests, she arches her back in a big stretch, ignoring how her bones protest with snaps and cracks. The leader thrusts her large head out of the linch entrance and her amber glare scours the clearing.

Dawnstar quickly heads straight for the stump that held the clan's apprentices. "Darkpaw, Icepaw, get up we're going training." Despite it being morning, the sun was not up yet. The nights last longer in the cold seasons and Dawnstar planned to use that to her advantage. She wanted to work on whatever she could with them.

She'd push these two harder than usual as she only had so much time on her paws. This meant she wouldn't pause their training until she noticed exhaustion affect their performance. "Get something small to eat and then meet me outside of camp, be quick about it I hate wasting time."She growled warningly before padding out of camp.

The leader would sit beside a giant trunk and groom her pelt until she heard the paw steps approach. "Darkpaw, have you had any training done? Icepaw, show me your best hunting crouch, stalk, and pounce." It was straight to business with the amber-eyed feline.

Icepaw was quick to leap to her paws as soon as she heard her name come out of Dawnstar's mouth. Already been awake since moments ago, she made a quick trip to prey pile to pick up a small mouse, finishing it and heading straight for the camp entrance. Once she was there, she was surprised to be instantly given an instruction. Not that she didn't expect it, of course.

The white-furred she-cat dropped to an inexperienced crouch, though she knew to keep her belly and tail off the ground. She crept forward, and of course, it was clumsy and probably completely wrong, but she put one paw infront of the other and that was that for Icepaw. Her pounce, however was much less clumsy and hurried than her crouch and stalk. She put force in her hind legs as she swiftly lept at an imaginary prey.

Icepaw shook her pelt and rose from her crouch, and turned to look at Dawnstar with a flick of her ear.

His ears immediately shot up upon hearing a familiar voice say his name- DawnStar. He’d been waiting for this in a way. It seemed himself and…another apprentice(?) were called to go out and train. He supposed the leader got a new one recently, huh? He’d still ponder why she chose to train him. He felt everything about him was rather miserable and…disappointing. His parents weren’t anything special to the clan either…perhaps that’s why he could be? No- why would he…the monster be important? He felt so discarded and used and poisoned…but those things never got a cat somewhere…perhaps he should at least try to trust himself? Or simply put on a mask and pretend as if he was confident in such ways.

Well- up and at ‘em, hurry—don’t be too slow. He stood and heard her order…already pressure. Pressure that would either make or break him as an apprentice. DawnStar could…maybe teach him a lot though? Just pretend you’re normal, fool. It’s easy. He snatched a quick, small mouse and quickly ate beside IcePaw, though remaining silent, them discarding it, hurrying beside the other apprentice he hadn’t spoken a word to yet. He soon (and hopefully quickly enough) reached DawnStar, heaeing her questions he froze for a moment but- no. No freezing, you are supposed to be quick, ready, and perfect. “Yes- uhm- RookFire…he taught me some basic hunting stuff…CherryWood taught me stealth as well.” he informed, his voice a bit shaky but…better then he expected honestly.

Dawnstar's eyes focused on Icepaw while her ears were turned towards Darkpaw's voice. Icepaw's stalking needed work, she was off balance and her paw steps were too loud. "You know to keep your belly from the ground, and your tail up and still, but you need to fix your paws. They're too far apart and put more weight on your haunches when you stalk that way your front paws don't come down so heavily and loudly when you stalk. Your pounce was good." Dawnstar explained bristly. "You know how to scent prey, Icepaw?"

The leader finally turned her attention to Darkpaw after she finished with Icepaw. "Good, so you haven't been slacking. Show me what they taught you, then I'll send you off to hunt something."

The white-furred apprentice nodded along at Dawnstar's words, making sure to keep whatever was just said in mind. Her pawsteps had to be light and gentle, got it. She'd guessed so, but wasn't entirely sure how. Perhaps she'd keep her paws closer together, given that she apparently had them too far apart.

She paused at the leader's next question. Scent prey? Sure, she could scent something, but she would not know if it was prey or not. She absentmindedly tapped a paw on the ground and looked back to Dawnstar, then nodded. And shrugged. Though, the shrug was less noticeable.

As the leaders attention shifted to IcePaw, so did his. He watched her crouch and stalk, listening intently to the leaders critique. Sure, it was all stuff he knew (the stalk and crouch and all), but any cat’s opinion was and view in it was valuable, especially the leaders. He found it interesting how the leader was in a way teaching two different lessons at once. He supposed it made sense, he and IcePaw had different experience and all. He knew hunting and stealth but it seemed she didn’t have that knowledge yet. She seemed a bit younger then him though, it was logical.

Then, an amber gaze was back on him. Good, so you haven't been slacking. Was that a…sort of approval? He would take it as such. Then she asked for an example then…she said she would send him out to hunt…alone? Well…nothing he couldn’t handle either way, right?

He nodded to her order, getting in the crouch he learned, fixed by both RookFire and CherryWood, as well as what DawnStar just instructed for IcePaw. He lowered his body, letting it hover slightly above his ground, keeping his tail straight behind him so it didn’t drag or was too high to draw attention. His ears remained perked up and alert, his back legs close together as well as close to his body so he could get a powerful leap up. He (mentally) drew an X on the ground as a spot to land before he initially pounced. It was easy to remember as a little leaf calmly sat there. His walk was quiet, careful of his surroundings and what may be under his paws and he was going slightly slower than a walking pace. Then…pounce! He leapt up and brought his front paws onto the leaf, landing with decent precision. His head lifted as he looked to DawnStar for approval. This was…rather easy when he just focused on the training aspect and not consistently on hiding anything…nothing to hide…yep.

Was she mute and Dawnstar simply doesn't recall anyone telling her? Her golden orbs bore into the bright, white pelt of the she-cat with a hint of confusion. Icepaw shrugged mildly and nodded, but wasn't giving Dawnstar a clear answer. Dawnstar's patience could be endless depending on what she was waiting for, yet here and now, it barely remained intact.

"Icepaw, if we are to make this mentor-apprentice relationship work, you'll have to start using your maw to answer me when I speak to you. I don't have enough patience to play a guessing game with you every time I ask you about something." She warned with a twitching tail tip. The question was simple and Dawnstar wanted a clear, verbal answer.

"Your pelt is very bright," Dawnstar meowed continuing to instruct her while waiting for her reply. "Let's work on your stealth. Take note of your surroundings, a nearby tree or bush will become your haven and hiding spot. When it comes to hiding in the shadows, those with darker pelts can blend in effortlessly with the darkness. You however can not freeze or stay hidden in every shadow you see, you won't blend no matter how still you remain. You will have to learn how to crouch lower and move faster than some, because of your lighter pelt you'll be the first ones spotted." Icepaw was going to have to work on her crouching and stalking anyway, stealth training was a good way to fix any issues that occurred with hunting.

"You see that bush," Dawnstar waved her tail toward the bush at the fringe of their training ground.

"I want you to try stalking towards it and see if you can hide behind or within it without rustling a single branch or making any noise." There was no point making Icepaw hide in actual shadows. It was impossible, her pelt was far too bright. So if they could at least work with her keeping quiet, quick, and using her surroundings stealth could be achieved.

"Focus on keeping quiet and control, we can work on speed later." She reminded the apprentice.

Darkpaw was proving easier to work with. Her eyes trailed him as he did exactly as she told him, although not exactly how she wanted. He proved he was well-trained in the hunting crouch, and pouncing, landing quietly on his mark. "Excellent work." She praised, clearly glad she wouldn't have to waste her time training him on the basics. "But I suppose I should have been clearer with my instructions. I meant to go and hunt me something, but the show works too." She wasn't picky so long as he showed her he could do it.

"Let's see how you do with stealth. Unlike Icepaw, you should blend in the shadows perfectly. So head over there," She nudged her chin towards the trees. "I want you to weave through the trees and stick to the shadows. You can see where the shadows are and feel a bit cooler in them. If you see any light, from the moon or sun, you know you're not hidden well enough. Mind your eyes as well, they gleam in the dark if even the hint of light touches them and can give away your position. Your movements need to be swift but restrained, even in the darkest of nights if you move too abruptly you will be seen." Dawnstar advised although he had already heard a bit about this due to prior lessons.

"Circle around those three trees once and then return to me." Dawnstar didn't need to watch Icepaw, the leader didn't want to hear her. Whereas with Darkpaw she didn't want to see him. So she'd be watching him and listening for Icepaw.

Oh, splendid. She had, in fact expected this to happen eventually, she couldn't live her whole life completely silent when she was completely capable of speaking. As much as she would have loved to, she simple couldn't. Sometimes things don't work the way you want to. And she was very aware.

"... Yes ma'am." It was easier than she'd expected to open her mouth and use it like she was meant to, but it took a moment to force out nontheless. Stars, she was going to have to make speaking easier for herself if she was going to survive. She continued listening to the leader's instructions silently, nodding every now and then. Understood.

She knew she would never blend into the shadows like a lot of ShadowClan cats would. So, like what Dawnstar had said, she would work on her speed. And stealth. Hm. Okay. Icepaw instantly started towards the bush, lowering her body and this time, making sure her paws were in the right place and that she was placing them down right. Being quiet and control now, speed later. Got it.

It was slow, yes, but it was silent. Icepaw carefully crept towards the bush, making sure she was watching out for any fallen leaves or twigs she may step on and make noise. She quickly slipped behind the bush, tucking her paws underneath her as she did, and poked her head above the greenery, minty eyes blinking slowly as she scanned the ground around her. Interesting. She was... Fairly satisfied, to say the least. It wasn't perfect, but at least she was quiet.

Excellent work. Was that…praise? From DawnStar? Well…he knew she wasn’t heartless, and didn’t seem the type to ignore talent. He was just shocked that he was worthy of such. Well…great for him then! But…then where he messed up. He thought she wanted an example then she would have sent him out but…he…his brain was tired and scrambled right now. Well…DawnStar seemed to be okay enough with it so…no harm done.

Now, his next task. He looked over to the trees she was referencing as the instructions came. He dipped his head, “Yes DawnStar.”, and he went, not wasting any time as he met the shadows and…yeah…he blended in well. He narrowed his eyes, hoping it would make a limited area for light to meet his gaze and hopefully prevent reflection. As he slunk into a crouch he took calculated, careful steps. His gaze scanned the ground around him before each step, hoping to not miss a single twig or leaf in the shadows. The only part of him that slightly stood out from the shadows were mainly his front half where he was more medium-gray than anything. He would have to remember that. Well…he skunk around the trees, trying to go the same pace he had for his hunting stalk.
