Thoughts on The Last Hope (and why I'm mad it wasn't the end)
Possibly unpopular opinions and spoilers for omen of the stars ahead
So I've been a warriors stan since I was a kid in 4th grade, back in like 2007. I finished Omen of the Stars in 2015, having read the series on and off for a while. At the time, I thought The Last Hope would be the final book in the whole series. I thought it was wrapping up a generation of childhood memories, mostly brought on by the fact that Firestar dies at the end. I was satisfied thinking that it was over, and happy with the way it ended, thinking it was appropriate to end the series with the death of the very first main character.
When I found out that the series continued, when AVOS came out, I have to say I was disheartened. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to read them and I'm happy to have more warriors books to consume, but The Last Hope just seemed so...finite. It seemed like a beautiful way to wrap up the series as a whole. The death of the very first main character, the character we have followed for nearly a decade. I've been thinking about this ever since AVOS was released. I feel like it's disrespectful to the series, and to Firestar's entire character, to have continued the series.
The arcs to come, with avos, feel like they should be regarded as kind of an epilogue, and shouldn't have been a continuation of the main series. Maybe a super edition, or a novella, but not another set of 6. I strongly feel like the series should have ended after Omen Of The Stars. Like really, how much larger can you go? Literally Hell and Heaven coming to earth and duking it out with all the living cats. What will ever be more climactic than that? Tigerstar and Firestar, the main protag and antag, finished for good. A solid ending, leaving no loose ends, no questions that still need answering.
It just seemed like such a good place to end it! It left me satisfied and a bit melancholy, feeling nostalgic that one of my childhood series came to a conclusive ending. Even Dawn of the Clans was fine, as it didn't continue the main cannon, and was a prologue to the series.
In conclusion, I'm still gonna read on, but I strongly feel like The Last Hope should have ended the main series. What's the point in continuing on after the most important character, the one who started it all, is gone? Is the rest just going to be a cash grab? Why did they feel the need to continue on after Firestar's death?
Thanks for reading, I really just had to put my feelings out there and see if there's anyone who agrees with me.

I have to agree with you.
The Last Hope wrapped up the series for me as well, and when I read the next two books, I just was horrified at how different it was without Firestar. It just felt empty without him. It felt pointless. I wouldn't have minded a few more super editions, maybe a manga series, but just continuing it like nothing happened, and he was just gone felt just... wrong.

I'm gonna bump this... with careful thought. Have you started AVOS yet?
