Demotion. How humiliating. As Nightkit made his way back after cleaning his fur off, he came to realise now that he had no idea what to do next. Telling his mentor about his demotion wasn’t exactly high on his list of things to look forward to. Yeah, for the time being, he was going to put that off for now. "Ugh…what a day…" Came the tired hiss as Nightkit made his way through camp with his head lowered. First he got covered in mud, now demoted! What was next?

…Walking straight into another cat, apparently. Not paying attention to where he was going, Nightkit suddenly walked right into another cat. "What the…?" He stumbled back slightly, before realising his mistake. "Oh, uh…sorry about that, I didn’t see you there. My bad."

Yet again a successful training session with Newtbelly. Feeling satisfied for once, Silentpaw walked off towards the Apprentices' Den for a good rest before someone decided to think it was great to run into him. He stepped back, biting back an agitated snarl.

Oh. He recognised this appentice kit. Wasn't he demoted a while ago? Amusing. Silentpaw stared at the demoted kit, expression still and unchanging; emotionless.

Nightkit didn’t really know what to think of Silentpaw just staring at him, expressionless. Was…this some kind of game? Nightkit met Silentpaw's gaze, staring right back, eventually raising an eyebrow as if to ask what in StarClan's name were they doing. What to even do? If he just left, that could seem rude, but so could it be if he kept staring as well! Maybe he should say something perhaps?

"Umm…do you like rocks?" He awkwardly said. "I mean like the cool-looking ones, not the boring ones that you find everywhere." Bit unconventional but it might work. Nightkit himself did kinda like cool-looking rocks, they brightened the place up a bit!

... Rocks? Was he serious? Silentpaw studdied Nightkit's face for any signs of mock or teasing. He found none. Either this cat really did have the mindset of a kit, or he was just hit really hard in the head. Could be both.

Silentpaw himself never put rocks into a category. Nothing such as "cool rocks" or "boring rocks" existed in his mind. He found it ridiculous. And he wanted to make sure this strange kit knew it. He shot the black-furred cat a strange look, eyes slightly narrowed. He did not answer, but hopefully his expression did the trick.

Silentpaw didn’t say anything, which wasn’t all that surprising given his name, but his expression spoke for itself. Nightkit met his gaze, on the outside maintaining the same expression, but on the inside he was nervous. Was he making a fool of himself already? It’s not as if there’s something wrong with liking cool types of rocks…was there? He'd been using them to brighten up his part of the den since he was a kit, it always made it look nicer.

"I…don’t think I said that right…" Well that was pretty obvious. "I made it sound strange there, didn’t I?" Right, now how to make it sound better? "I don't mean it as in obsessing over them or something, I meant like just thinking some rocks are cool, the ones that look different."

Hm. An attempt to redeem himself. It made it slightly better, though Silentpaw couldn't help but still think something was up with this strange cat. He gave a small nod in a partially understanding way. Not the best way to introduce yourself to a cat you've only just met, if you ask him.

Okay, so that seemed to make things slightly better, although Nightkit still felt pretty embarrassed. Could he really do much to fix it? Or just accept he’d messed up and move on. "I should shut up now, shouldn’t I?" He said just above a whisper. "Sorry for wasting your time…"

But then…yes! That was exactly what he was talking about! A really cool-looking shiny rock! It was white with a bit of orange through it, and had a crystal-like shape. "Wait, that’s what I’m talking about! I don’t mean any random rocks, I mean those ones!" He pointed to the rock with his tail. Maybe if Silentpaw could see the rocks for himself, then Nightkit wouldn’t come off as so strange for it! "These are the kind of rocks I look for, I just think it makes my part of the den look less…dull, y'know?"
