Sootspirit wake from her nap and stretched before rising. She noticed the apprentice cleaning and yawned. "I think you missed a spot over here." She mewed to the apprentice, not remembering his name.

Just like the idiots from RiverClan, always taunting him, always pushing him around and for what? His rat-like posture, small size, skin-and-bone appearance? Bright amber eyes glowered with irritation, pushing aside the nest he'd been cleaning. "Well then clean it up."
He rasped in return, swallowing down the insult forming in his throat. He had to play nice for now.

Sootspirit's black fur raised slightly as the apprentice talked back. She looked to Brairsplash with a look of indignation. The warrior calmed herself though, she had to admit she would have reacted that way not so long ago as an apprentice herself. But she was a warrior now and she did her chores as an apprentice.
She turned to Briarsplash first, although she didn't know this warrior well she had always respected her. The small warrior related to her fierceness and her harshness as well. "Not to sound like an elder, but I feel like apprentices these day have no respect. We did our time doing these chores." She scuffed. Her eyes narrowed at the apprentice, he certainly was strange looking but who was she to judge on appearance. Her yellow eyes narrowed.

Briarsplash snorted, glancing between Sootspirit and the apprentice. "Who put thorns in your nest, kid? You're clearly the one here sent to clean it up. Whether it's a punishment or a training exercise from your mentor doesn't matter to me — it's your job for the day, so do it."
She could view the visible tension in the apprentice, as much as he seemed to be biting his tongue. The warrior narrowed her eyes at him, expecting a full challenge to her rebuttal. She'd had to do just as grueling of things as an apprentice with no mercy or sympathies — so he should experience the same.
She was glad Sootspirit shared in her indignation — a kindred spirit. That was no way for an apprentice to talk to a warrior, regardless of age. She wanted to hear his name, too.

Sootspirt didn't have time for this anymore, whoever the apprentice was it wasn't her concern. She had things to do today.
She turned to Brairsplash and nodded to the warrior, "Hope the prey runs well for you today." The black she cat padded out of the warrior den to join in on patrols.
(Sorry wanted to see where this played out but Sootspirit got called on patrols and didn't want her to be in so many places at once)
Gee, what a bunch of grouchy elders. Smolderingpaw snorted at the first warrior’s comment, clearly amused. “Aren’t you lot ‘supposed to know that kinda stuff?”
He replied back, finishing up with cleaning the nest at his paws before casting it aside, amber gaze landing on the other warrior. He tilted his head, and nasty sneer forming. “Bold of you to assume anyone assigned me to this nasty task. I’m doing this of my own volition – or was, thanks to your attitude. Don’ look a gift fox in the mouth next time, yeah.”
With those words and his work done, Smolderingpaw left the warrior’s den.

Briarsplash nodded a wordless goodbye to Sootspirit. When she turned back to Smolderingpaw she rolled her eyes, obnoxiously indifferent to the apprentice's tone. "Yeah, well, one day you'll learn some respect, kid. And that includes your attitude!" She called after him as he left.
Of course she was egging him on, but still, it was something she had to learn when she was younger. It was the rite of every apprentice. It was coldly satisfactory in a way, to finally be the warrior barking the orders this time.
Once he was gone, she let out an indignant huff of air and settled back onto her nest for more sleep.
Flamegaze Drempt rebellious dreams that she kept to herself.
