[Elkpaw Healing death]
Ok, Elkpaw seemed really sick. The symptoms were similar of those of greencough, maybe some catmint would help him? "Alright, I can get some tansy for your throat and some catmint, might be greencough. Be right back," he said, hobbling to the herb store, grabbing some catmint and tansy. There wasnt much catmint, but it would do. After grabbing the herbs, he returned to the older cat and dropped the herbs in front of them. "Alright, go ahead and eat these n go lay down. Not much else I can do, sorry," he muttered, nudging the herbs to elkpaw

Greencough... greencough. "Well, we still got one catmint left, I'll go ahead and give it to the little man," he said, forcing a purr before hobbling to the herb store and retrieving the last catmint. The tripod dropped it in front of petrelstorm. "Here, see if you can get him to eat it," he told her, green eyes full of worry. This was a kit for stars sake, he didn't want them to get any more sick then they already were.

“No it's ok, I’ll wait for you to kiss my paws.”
Thankfully it didn't seem like Lightningpaw was going to die. Good she was far too pretty for that. Thought she couldn't help herself from wincing when her wounds were being treated, and pondered if pretty kitties winched like this. Another list of things she had to do to always look presentable and pretty, man life is rough sometimes isn't it? A part of Lightningpaw was thankful that Hollowpaw didn't talk during the cleaning of her wounds, it made it easier for her to focus on not crying about how much it hurt and it worked. She just dug her claws into the moss bed with what little strength she had left in her. She figured Wolfhive wouldn't cry while being taken care of, and she wanted to be more like him!
Lightningpaw readily accepted the medicine and tasting the juice of the juniper berry made her brain go wild. It wanted water NOW... Yet she was far too weak to get up and help herself, as insulting it was to her pride. So she curled up to try to keep herself warm, oh she was so cold, and she looked up to Hollowpaw with pleading eyes. "Hollow... Could you please... Get me water... Food..?" She was going to keep herself awake until she was able to get sustenance. It didn't take a brainiac to know if she was feeling this thirsty that it would be awful when she woke up. The food part? More of a guess, her body was weak but all she could tell right now was its thirst. And despite hating to look weak, homegirl needed to look out for number one.
Brow twitching, Hollowpaw only stares at the apprentice for a moment. What was he? Her personal errand boy? Oh! Yes, Lightningpaw, i'll go get you that water! Of course, Lightningpaw! I'll fetch you that mouse! ...seriously... he has other things to do. And he has no moss. He needs moss. He'll go make one of the warriors get some with him in just a second.
Ducking out of the den, he quickly grabs a shrew from the prey pile before returning, dropping the rodent in front of Lightningpaw.
"Water's gonna have to wait," he says blandly, "I don't have any moss. I'll be back with that in just a bit." That said, he ducks out of the medicine den again to look for a warrior to rope into this task.

He really didn't want to sneeze all over everything, but it looked like it was going to happen. Stupid smelly medicine den. He did his best to tuck his nose into his chest fur, sneezing with a fortunately small amount of discharge. Ick. Very very icky. I've been sneezing, no DUH Brindlepaw coughing, the works pretty much. It started out as just some sniffles and I thought it was just a little cold after the rain, but now its in my lungs or something. And I'm tired. Just...what everyone else has, I guess. He wasn't the most social, but he wasn't an idiot. Brindlepaw was well aware that he wasn't the only one coming down with vaguely cold-but-not-quite symptoms. Just one of the crowd, despite all that Tansyjaw had tried to impress upon him as kit. Whatever. He just hoped Hollowpaw could fix him up, or at least keep him somewhere he wouldn't get other cats sick. He had been worried about being too near his father, and Hollowpaw might agree.
@Neptune.
If this truly was the same illness as everyone else, then... Hollowpaw didn't know how to treat it... and the catmint he'd just sent out a patrol for had already run dry. Great. Okay... what does he have?
Indicating with a flick of his abnormally long tail, Hollowpaw turns to his herb stores. No catmint, no elder flower for any fever... but Brindlepaw is coughing, he's sneezing, and Hollowpaw does know a remedy for that. Pleased at his remembrance, white paws reach out to grab one comfrey leaf and some tansy and carries them back over to the waiting apprentice.
"Eating these together will sooth your cough. If you've got what everyone else has, it's not gonna cure you or 'nything - we still haven't found something that works."

Lightningpaw wanted to complain. How hard was it exactly to get moss? It was like everywhere, c'mon! Though when she went to speak not much came out, she just let out a weak thanks. When she gathered the power she dug into the shrew and enjoyed the little bit of moisture it had, but it only made her body more angry for water. It knew this wasn't enough and it was complaining. To try and ignore her body's insistent whining she tried to sleep, yet the thirst made it too hard for her to fall asleep now. While trying to force herself to sleep she didn't realize at first but her body felt a bit stronger. Not enough to do anything crazy like walk around, but her head felt less heavy. Maybe she would give Hollowpaw a real thanks. Once he fell out of the attitude tree and hit his head to be nice. Whatever happened to bedside manner?

Another sniffle as Elkpaw watched the medicine cat rummage around in the herb store for a moment, and then his nose twitched as he eyed the herbs set in front of him. They weren't anything he knew of, that was for sure, but if the healer was giving them to him, then he'd be better in no time, surely!
He scooped up the herbs and chewed them. Tansy tasted bitter, but heck, he'd for sure keep coming back for more of the other stuff. "Thanks." He gave Wolfpaw a bright smile and went to find a nest to settle down in for a bit. He'd be running around again in no time!
Whatever these plants were, they did not taste delicious. It was sort of to be expected, there was a reason cats ate prey and not herbs most of the time, but Brindlepaw couldn't help screwing up his nose a bit at the flavor. He ate them anyway though, since he wasn't a wimp. If the nasty tasting herbs would make him feel better (not cure him, that wasn't a nice thing to hear) then eat them he would. He just hoped Hollowpaw had enough of them to take care of all of the clan. He was just one cat and he'd munched two stems down, albeit looking vaguely different.
Thank you. he muttered, generally miserable. I'm happy to get the cough dealt with if nothing else. His immune system could take care of the rest of things. Right? Right. Surely! Otherwise cats would be toast at every cold, especially without a clan, and Outsiders were still running around! He would be fine! Absolutely fine! Sniffing a bit but also pleased that his throat was slightly less raw-feeling, Brindlepaw wandered over to a vacant nest. Oh, Elkpaw was here. Nice. Time to pass out now. @Neptune.

Seakit looked at all the cats around her. Wolfpaw and Hollowpaw were busy with sick cats. She never thought of it, but they barely get breaks. She wanted to be running now and training. But, her dumb leg didn't let her. She was gonna have her apprentice ceremony, but nooooooo. She had to go back in the medicine den and rest. [OPEN]

Returning to camp with the moss, Hollowpaw deposits it all in the herb stores before removing one piece, bringing it to their water source, and soaking it through. Once that was done, he carries it over to Lightningpaw.

"Alright..." Petrelstorm took the strongly scented leaf in her mouth and chewed it. Grousekit was only a moon old, and was even having trouble with just milk, so hopefully this would help him get it down. She worked quickly but thoroughly. Carefully, when she was finished, she licked the poultice onto the pad of her paw and gently coaxed Grousekit to get it down. "Come on there, darling, this will help you feel better."
Grousekit fussed and fussed. The tiny thing screwed up his muzzle and turned away, whining wordlessly, quite evidently in a lot of pain still. It broke Petrelstorm's heart to see. Eventually, she managed to convince him to start lapping the poultice up, bit by tiny bit.
At first, nothing much seemed to happen. Petrelstorm fretted to herself and inwardly reasoned it would take more time, and he just needed to get more of the herb down. Only the tip of her tail betrayed this, twitching agitatedly back and forth — the rest of her she forced into focusing only on comforting Grousekit. He was in enough distress without his mother breaking down on him.
It was when he had finally gotten down the remaining poultice that it happened. Grousekit's eyes went impossibly wide as his entire body gave a sharp spasm. Petrelstorm's heart leaped in her throat. "What—" The kit gave yet another wail, but it was different and horrible. It was shrill and piercing, and it sounded like it had been torn out of his throat. His legs buckled, and his tiny, frail form collapsed to the ground. They jerked wildly.
Petrelstorm turned to Wolfpaw. "What's happening to him?" she cried, frantic, no longer hiding her panic. She hardly bothered with his reply, if he gave one at all. Instead, she turned back to her smallest kit and began licking down his entire body, desperate to comfort him.
He didn't seem to register. His jaws were frozen open, rigid, his eyes staring forward unseeingly. His body was wracked with spasms in wave after wave. The poultice that was supposed to help him came back up again, bringing drool and bile with it. The wailing seemed to be constant now. Petrelstorm was in no state to realize that she was the one doing it; Grousekit was silent but for the retching.
Eventually, he slowed. The convulsing went down to intermittent again, then finally just the occasional twitch.
And then, he stopped.
Completely.
"No, no no nonono no nono no no—" The string of hardly coherent "no"s poured from her mouth in a denying mutter. She nuzzled Grousekit desperately, having collapsed next to her son to cradle him between her own paws. He was so tiny how could— StarClan, why—
She squeezed her eyes shut, jaws clenched hard against reality. It would take a pack of angry badgers to pry her away from her son right now. She shuddered. How had it gone wrong so fast? This wasn't— she didn't—
How was she going to tell Cardinalsong? Stars, how was she going to tell the girls?
yikes.... so um... yeah... first time writing anything so terrible on WCO, please let me know if anything's wrong with the spoiler format etc. also excuse any just not great writing haha...

" The heart has it's reasons...
It wasn't fair. It's not fair!! Why was Bravepaw gone? Just like that? She was never supposed to leave him, she was supposed to stay at his side forever, and now she was just... gone. Hollowpaw wants to cling to her fur, bury his nose in the dark color of it and never leave. He can't. He knows he can't. He knows there's logic in what Cedarstrike is saying to him, but he doesn't like it.
He's still crying as he pulls away from his sister, eyes burning her image into his mind forever. He barely feels the offered comfort from Cedarstrike, hardly registers that Wolfpaw and Violetfreckle are even still there. His eyes burn as grief quickly gives way to anger because how dare she leave him alone. How dare she?
"Get her out of here," he says, and he means it as an order, unable to conceal the furious growl in his voice. He can't even look at her anymore.
"What?" Hollowpaw does not conceal the sharpness in his voice as Poppypaw wobbles her way into the den. He has enough on his paws with all the sick and adding to their numbers was the last thing he needed right now.
"Yeah, get in line," Hollowpaw snaps, but he steps over to the apprentice regardless of sharp words. "How are you sick?"
A kit. Great. And not even a sick or injured one from the look of her. Saying 'kit' really didn't mean much, anyway, Hollowpaw himself was around the same age as Olivekit, but he's already seen enough to make him grow up fast. Olivekit did not live in the same world as him.
"If you're not sick or dying, get. Out. Of. My. Den." He snarls, approaching her. It's not that he's on purpose being mean (even though he is, but there's a logical reason behind it, trust.) But with all the sickness around, the medicine den was a very bad place to be. All the sick had been through here, it was a miracle that Hollowpaw and Wolfpaw themselves weren't already sick, Olivekit, though, could very likely contract the illness if she stayed too long.
Oh gee, Hollowpaw was grumpy! And as such Poppypaw felt bad for disturbing the busy medic, but she knew she had to. The apprentice pouted in her guilt for a moment, before a harsh bloodied sneeze broke through her pause, forcing the dizzy spotted tabby to sit down. "M' sorry. But Poppy sick. Poppy all woozy and spinny, and warm and cold and sneezy and - and cough-y and... Bloody nose, mhm! Poppy often has sorta bloody noses, Poppy falls a lot! But, but.. this is different. It just started 'n wouldn't stop, nope, still is a bit bloody. 'n Poppy is so even woorrrsse wobbly, 'n, 'n... can't eat very well, nope. Not hungry even when Poppy tries to be. 'n all shivery too 'n weird, all weird."
She tilted her head, visibly upset and unwell as even now she struggle to sit still. "Poppy not doing good. Not good at all. Is just like when Poppy was a kit... Poppy spent moons in this den, then, mhm! And Pap disappeared! But Springy and Frizzy helped... You can hep too? Poppy wants to be a big and strong warrior like Pap! But Poppy can't be big and strong warrior if Poppy can't walk or eat or sit or... or is like this."
Even she had noticed how oddly bad her wobbles had gotten again now, and she didn't want to make others sick... Oh, she hoped she would be out of the meddie den quick this time! Last time Poppypaw spent half her kithood sick, she hoped this wouldn't take half of her adulthood.
