Hazelpaw

Looking back at Shimmerpaw as the grey she-cat stepped corward, Hazelpaw noted that she looked pretty nervous. Her gaze flicking up back to Kestrelstar as he spoke, she wondered what he would name her. Hazelface? Bah, definitely not. Hazelfall was alright, Hazelflight was definitely a no. Organising and holding together her thoughts in case she collapsed, Hazelpaw let out a long sigh.

I wish he could hurry up with the ceremony!

Okay, she better respond now. Since Shimmerpaw and Reedpaw had. Sighing again, Hazelpaw twitched one ear back.

["I do," she responded, in a clear, strong voice. Her heart ached for a heartbeat as she imagined her parents' faces if they could see her now. If only coyotes didn't exist! If only ThunderClan hadn't chased the coyotes into RiverClan, then Hazelpaw would still have her mother and father. They had been killed before they could see their daughter become a warrior.

Well, Hazelpaw reflected, she hoped they were watching from StarClan, or wherever they were. And she knew (or hoped desperately with all her willpower?) that her parents would be proud.

As the three young cats all swore their loyalty to RiverClan, Kestrelstar let a smile stretch across his face. He was always proud to have a paw in cats obtaining their warrior name and solidifying their place in the Clan. All three of the cats before him would make excellent warriors he was certain, and with leaf-bare on the rise it was the perfect timing to have an extra set of warriors.

"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior names. Reedpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Reedlight. We honor your bravery and compassion, and welcome you as a full warrior of RiverClan." The gray tabby leader took a moment as he watched the young tom. Never did Kestrelstar think he'd be standing before Reedpaw - now Reedlight, and giving him his warrior name. He sincerely hoped he liked it, for it was true. He was one of the lights that had cut through Kestrelstar's shadows to pull the true leader back. Stretching his neck forward, he rested his chin briefly on top of the apprentices head. [B]"Thank you,"[B] he whispered quietly, for only him to hear.

Moving on, Kestrelstar now looked at Shimmerpaw. A light smile appeared on his face. "Shimmerpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Shimmerbird. We honor your kindness and loyalty, and welcome you as a full warrior of RiverClan." Giving the young she-cat an encouraging look, Kestrelstar took a moment to rest his head on top of hers, a purr rumbling in his throat.

Lastly, he moved away to look at Hazelpaw. He recalled the day her parents had been slaughtered by the coyotes. He had only been a warrior then, with Lionstorm and Snakeheart at the helm of RiverClan, and had been called upon to lead the predator patrol that had driven out the coyotes. Now they were back, and he watched her for a moment. Hopefully she was okay, and not scared, having faith in her abilities as a new warrior and RiverClan's ability to protect her. "Hazelpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Hazelstorm. We honor your bravery and determination, and welcome you as a full warrior of RiverClan." Just as he did with the two before, Kestrelstar rested his chin briefly on top of her head for a moment.

Stepping away from the newly made warriors, Kestrelstar lifted his tail. "Reedlight! Shimmerbird! Hazelstorm!" He began to chanting with enthusiasm, yellow eyes shining bright as they looked towards the overcast gray clouds that dotted the sky above him. It was a joyous day, despite what all else may be going on. RiverClan had three new warriors to celebrate.

Once the swell of chanting had died down, Kestrelstar dipped his head to the three warriors before looking to seek a cat out in the crowd. They had come forward about a name change, and he wanted to grant that now. "Ravensplash, if you could step forward please," he called, waiting for the cat to show. He had yet to do one of these ceremonies, and had been going over the lines the night before in his den.

"Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what they are. By my authority as Clan leader, an with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment on, they will be known as Ravenclaw." Yellow eyes glimmered as he watched the newly named Ravenclaw, offering them a dip of his head.

With that done, Kestrelstar turned and climbed back onto the Streamstone, wincing as he moved his hind legs a bit too fast and tugged at the newly healing wounds. Once back atop the stone he cast his gaze down towards the Clan. "I have one more announcement. Sagewhisper, a warrior who was promoted to a Shield, has disappeared. I am unsure of her whereabouts, but if you see her on our territory do not attack. She might just be lost..." A small bitterness seeped into the last word, but not enough to really be detected. "In her place I am promoting a skilled and dedicated warrior to be RiverClan's newest Shield; Lizardfrost [ @Shade. ]."

That had been quite a roll of announcements, Kestrelstar would wait a bit before continuing on and finishing out the meeting.

He called the names, giving them all delighted looks, happy for their accomplishment. I hope that Sagewhisper is okay... He thought, contemplating her every possible whereabout. He was sat quietly afterwards, letting his mind wander a bit farther than he wanted.

Reedlight, Reedlight, Reedlight. He had to repeat it a few timed to really let it sink. He was a warrior now! And with a cool name, at that! His ears twitched as he heard Kestrelstar's grateful whisper, and he grinned.

"I didn't do much good, but I guess you're welcome!" He said, laughing sheepishly. He really didn't do much, but if Kestrelstar thought he was worthy of thanks, he would accept it happily.

Brittleshore smiled, chanting the names with the rest of the clan. Such a joyous occasion! New warriors! The elder smiled again.

When the news was dropped about the missing Shield, Brittleshore frowned. That was......saddening news. He wondered what had happened to the cat. But the new Shield, yes, Kestrelstar had chosen wisely. He was sure that the new Shield would protect them at all costs.

**Codpaw**

Codpaw watched the warrior ceremony unfold with longing eyes. He was nearly there! He was delighted for his friend, Hazelpaw...no, Hazelstorm. She deserved this as much as anybody could and he hoped to be right behind her with his own ceremony. He called loudly with the rest of the clan, "Reedlight! Reedlight! Shimmering! Shimmerbird!" And with added enthusiasm, he cheered, "Hazelstorm! Hazelstorm!" His mind wandered into what his own warrior name would be, going over and over the dozens of possibilities.

Until he heard Sagewhisper's name...His mother had been gone for some time so really it made sense that she'd be demoted from her appointment as Shield but it still struck Codpaw as disrespectful and uncalled for. Somehow this made it feel more real that she was gone, that she wasn't coming back. He told himself that wherever she was, maybe Eveningpaw was with her but maybe that made it worse; the thought that his family could run off together without even so much as a good-bye to him struck him deep. He shook his head, whatever took Sagewhisper away he had to believe she didn't leave by choice, especially without saying goodbye, there had to have been a good reason. He tried to raise his voice to congradulate Lizardfrost as the new Shield but the bitterness formed like a lodge in his throat and he couldn't get the words out.

The sand colored queen smiled as she heard the new names. Reedlight, Shimmerbird and Hazelstrom... They all sounded wounderful, and Sandbreeze didn't doubt they newly made warriors would be proud of themselves and their new - and earned - names. The name change surprised her however, there was nothing wrong with their name, and as far as she could recall nothing had happened in their life to more justify the new name, like some big event or death of a family member they wanted to honor. Not that they few rumors that reached the nursery, and even less herself would be enough to keep up with everyone's life. At the end of the day it didn't really mater, she would call them by the new name if that was what they wanted.

The look of confusion on the bigger Reedpaws face was actually quite funny to her. Was that what she looked like earlier? Of course, Reedpaw didn’t have the best control over the emotions her facial features showed, it must’ve been at least a little funny. Offering him a wide and yet warm smile, Reedpaw blinked towards her friend excitedly when the bigger one had mentioned taking her to his den yet again. She was overly happy, after everything that had happened, how could she not be? The thought of Reedpaw trusting her enough to show her where he had stayed ever since he left, which hopefully would be comfortable. Even if she had reconnected with old friends since he was gone, Reedpaw had to admit she missed the older one, even if they had only one interaction. After processing the next part he had said, a soft giggle raised from her. It was a funny idea, hilarious even, to think she’d turn anyone away, let alone him. For one thing, she didn’t want a swat over the ear from Snakeheart for turning away someone who needed medical attention. For another, Reedpaw was her friend. “Of course I won’t !”

Reedpaw watched as Kestrelstar dipped his head towards her, accompanied by a wide grin he was sporting. For a moment, there was a bubble of anxiety forming in her chest before she gave a shake of her head. Reedpaw would need to get over her deep seated fear or the leader if she was meant to work by Snakehearts side. She knew how close the two were, and doubted the medicine cat would appreciate if his apprentice could hardly even see the leader making movements to her without a feeling of worry washing over her. Taking in a deep breath, Reedpaw brought a smile onto her muzzle as she gazed up at Kestrelstar, offering it in return to his little head dip before her ears seemed to perk up upon hearing warriors ceremonies. When the twinge of jealousy arrived, Reedpaw had to remind herself that becoming a warrior would no longer be her walk of life. Starclan had chosen different for her, and Snakeheart and Kestralstar seemed to accept her into this spot. So instead of watching glumly, Reedpaw kept her eyes glued on her friend. He had returned, and now was receiving his warrior name! That was so exciting.

Reedpaw kept a close eye on her friend, a soft grin playing along her maw. Excitement tingled in her paws as he agreed to what Kestrelstar was saying. Even though there were two other apprentices, Reedpaws eyes were obviously rested on the bigger Reedpaw. When his name was announced, along with the others, Reedpaw had hoped onto her paws, excitedly working them against the ground as her blue-green eyes seemed to simply glisten with joy. Raising her voice high, Reedpaw stayed in her spot but was certain to begin cheering. “Shimmerbird! Shimmerbird! Hazelstorm! Hazelstorm!” pausing, she gave a soft swallow before “Reedlight! Reedlight!! Reedlight!!” came from Reedpaw, accompanied by a soft purring noise.
