Owlthroat
he/him | Shadowclan Enforcer | 42 moons Killer Aptitude T3 - Just A Scratch - Silver Tongue T2 The Dancing Bird
Owlthroat ear’s flickered at the mention of his name, his promotion. It had been discussed with Hawkbite but it still felt satisfying hearing his name roll from Dawnstar’s mouth. He nodded, giving an unusually soft smile to those who thanked him. Part of his smile made particularly fond with Pondpaw’s rebuttal and how their leader had shut it down. His thoughts were always his of course, he wouldn’t make them public or troublesome. But there was something about Pondpaw that rubbed him up the wrong way, despite Tuftedtusk’s care for her.
He’d succeed in his new role, he’d make damn sure of that. The father leaned down, nuzzling each of his young in turn. Delicately touching his nose to his mate’s cheek. They’d be an unstoppable force, so would their children. All in the name of greatness, Owlthroat soaked it in. The glory feeding an unfathomable ego, it was the pinnacle of success and it burned into the pit of his stomach deeply.
As the meeting dismissed he raised his haunches, turning to leave. Tail held high.

Birdecho's assertion that Cinderpaw would be next does much to raise her spirits, and before the new warrior departs, Cinderpaw offers a nod. She would be next. She would. And then her gaze catches on Silentpaw, her denmate, and his distress is immediately apparent. She isn't sure why, though. Maybe in response to Foggymask's execution? Why would that upset him, traitors deserve to be executed.
Still, maybe Foggymask had been important to him, an older brother or a father maybe.... Cinderpaw knew what it was like to lose a parent - hell, she was still quietly mourning her own mother. So dark tabby pads over on uneven paw steps until she can sit in front of Silentpaw, amber eyes sympathetic.
Despite having spoken a moment ago, she cannot force her voice to work at this moment, so she taps the ground and tries to get his attention with movement first, trying not to startle him.

This cannot be true. It-
It's not true. It's not.
He didn't see Cinderpaw come towards him until the apprentice taps the ground infront of him, and the tabby tortoiseshell is then able to make out the environment around him. Most of the cats that attended the meeting were gone, and he probably looked pretty damn stupid. His gaze still cast downwards, he tried to catch his breath, muttering out one single word in the process.
"...What." He didn't look at the other apprentice, and instead stared at his paws, and the ground. His thoughts began spiralling again, and he felt his breath slowly pick back up. Foggymask owed him some explanations. Why would he do something so STUPID AND GET HIMSELF KILLED?
But he's not dead, he can't be. There was no way Foggymask was dead. Why leave him? Why leave them when he was the only cat they had? Why? Why be so stupid?

rookfire did not miss the spark his whoop put into gutspaws eyes and he returned the grin and nod easily before following along the ceremony further. dawnstar never lingered on promotions long, so it felt like only a blink of time before rookfire was cheering along the rest of his clanmates, "GUTSGNAW! BIRDECHO!"
oh dawnstar was already moving on, lifting restrictions and rookfire turned his head to face mudslide again, "fox attack outta camp" the medicine cat replied with almost cool neutrality. he had cooled off considerably regarding this situation but not enough to find any pity in himself to offer towards the newly named apprentice.
at the very edge of his attention, he half-heartedly listened in on pondpaw picking a fight with owlthroat and a kit he couldnt quite place but didnt do anything. he was sick and tired of the apprentice and if owlthroat wanted to be a bit snarky, so be it, he liked the guy enough, so why should he care. they werent really causing trouble just yet anyway. even if owlthroats explanation that some cats just cant stick it out where they are made the medic huff and roll his eyes. yeah yeah the typical thing he had heard a hundred times from cats that were born into clans with stable and fair leadership. though, he still didnt care all that much given pondpaw continued to draw attention to her past whereas he would be happy to saw that he was as much a shadowclan cat as any other and only ever mention his past in passing when it was immediately relevant. who continued to draw attention to their differences was one to get negative reactions to it, easy as.
ah dawnstar had never disappointed him, so it shouldnt be much of a surprise that she called out the apprentice before rookfire bothered to do so, so he simply nodded along and didnt bother supressing the grin that snuck onto his maw when dawnstar named owlthroat and newtbelly enforcers right after. funny. truly.
while rookfire and fishpaw appeared and began yapping, roachflare got to running his sandpaper tongue over mudslides shoulder (or at least he tried, he wasnt really of the right size to reach that high while seated) in an attempt to calm his friend. bug sideeyed fishpaw and the medicine cat every once in a while, mostly because especially rookfire whom he had always seem as more or less sensible appeared to be missing the emotions roach could so clearly see radiating off of his best friends body. the subtle tension and behaviours bug had learned to read over the moons together, almost more like siblings or perhaps two of one kind, some sort of connection of the stars he wouldnt have ever (not even in bugs mind) considered to be truth. still, he felt it, quietly. "look restrictions are lifted..'can see if we can find some critters" bug carefully attempted to move the conversation.

What the hell?!
Rage flashed in Pondpaw's river-blue hues as Dawnstar called her out for doing nothing and made Owlthroat an Enforcer. Then Rookfire appeared, and she couldn't help but notice the grin on his face whenever she was rebuked.
Ears twitching irritably, Pondpaw flashed Birdecho a forced smile whenever the new warrior looked at her before she got to her paws and made her way over to the apprentices' den in a miserable silence, pawsteps silent.

Fishpaw smiled when mudslide placed her nose on her brow, before looking up at the three cats “ So! she stared off her voice a bit too high for a normal apprentice, catching herself and pausing so she didnt speak in an over pitched tone So, what training should we do first?” she asked, she was happy she was now an apprentice and she wanted to start training as soon as she could with mudslide and maybe the other cat that offered to help, she didnt know his name, but mudslide seemed to like him. Oh and rookfire was here too so that was fun, flicking her ear to her name being chanted the loudest she scanned the clearing spotting her father chanting her name followed by a slow blink that fish returned. giving a toothy smile back towards the two warriors and rookfire she stood waiting a response .

"look restrictions are lifted..'can see if we can find some critters" bug carefully attempted to move the conversation.
The only good thing about the whole meeting was the fact that restrictions have been lifted, and even then Mudslide felt sick, but her nausea was slowly ebbing away. She was somewhat startled by Rookfire's nonchalant expression, pushing the words from his maw as though they meant next to nothing. Wasn't he supposed to care? Well, it didn't matter, Mudslide wasn't going to ask.
She looked back to her apprentice with an icy gaze, her expression neutral as Fishpaw spoke. "Tour." She replied simply, dropping her eyes as soon as the words came. Two cats... Two cats to juggle relentlessly. Hopefully Mosquitopaw wouldn't mind a companion when it came to training, because if she was gonna have two cats to teach she might as well do it at the same time.
In the midst of her own personal doubt and itch to run for the hills, she felt Roachflare's tongue graze her shoulder. It was a faint lick, but Mudslide could understand why. Poor bug was pretty short, especially compared to her, but she appreciated the gesture all the same. She bent down to nuzzle her nose to his cheek before she got up and stretched herself. With all these cats around her, she was slowly starting to feel more eager to get up and move.
She sparred her newly made apprentice one last look along with a word of instruction. "Soon." she rasped, holding her tail low behind her, letting it drag in the grass as she made her way back to the warriors den, before her steps faultered and she paused by the entrance. Hoping Roachflare was close behind her, she turned and crouched down to look bug in the eye, the faintest of smiles curving her maw. She gestured over to the clearing exit with a flick of her ear. She was sure now was a good time if any for bug hunting, especially if she wanted to get her mind off things.

➢ New Warriors were normal. Hollow had expected that. She was used to that. It was familiar. Apart of the schedule. What wasn't planned was Foggymask's betrayal and the slaughter that was his execution. Hollowpaw shifts in her seat, clearly something in her mood had changed. Coyotepaw was still here and Hollowpaw didn't wish to embarrass themself in front of the older tom. "I have to go locate my mentor, Hawkbite... Good luck on your training." Her volume husky, failing to express any of the disgust Hollowpaw felt inside. With a quick nod to the fanged cat, she departs. Shaky paws taking them closer to the Commander.
Thankfully, it was easy to locate him. The brown om was the loudest to call out "Fishpaw" and it gave his Apprentice an idea of his location. Upon steeping closer, Hollowpaw's ears pin to her head as they call for him, keeping their volume low. "Hawkbite!" Padding closer after they had stopped, ears returning to a upright position. Hollowpaw sits to his right, close enough to show that "this was his Apprentice" but not so close it would be uncomfortable. "Question, if I'm allowed to ask. Are those...normal? The execution, I mean. I should have clarified, apologizes Also...congratulations to Fishpaw, you must be. uh. proud?" She sucked in air, the following exhale was shaky, uncertainty clawing through her. "Sorry. You two seem like an adoptive family, I shouldn't have assumed-" They cut themself off. Ears lowering in some sort of feeling of shame.
The announcements finished up and Hawkbite's tail flicked a few times, processing the fact Foggymask was dead. That was news to him. Just came to show that even the cats within their own clan couldn't be trusted. It was a good thing they decided against going through with promoted that traitor. His ears pinned back and he'd think with a disgusted look before a familiar figure and voice caught his attention.
Turning his head to look at Hollowpaw, his gaze seemed thoughtful, although concerned. He supposed she was still young, didn't know. She wasn't familiar with the history of Dawnstar, but he'd grown up with it. He knew nothing else aside from executions and tough love. "Yes." A simple answer. No emotion behind it. "They're not as frequent as they used to be, but traitors face death. Outsiders and other clans do, too, if they don't respect us."
Fishpaw. Some emotion returned to his face. "She's uh... adoptive, yeah," Wow. That was the first time he'd said it aloud. It was official, huh? Everyone already kind of knew, but he supposed now it was official. He had a daughter. "She'll make a decent warrior if she listens."

➢ They were common place? Hollowpaw nods sharply, brain still scrambling through the idea of being a traitor only to die. You weren't a martyr, you were stupid. Hollow exhales slowly. At least he had nice things to say about his daughter. It brought up the mood of the conversation a fair bit and Hollowpaw was grateful for that. Talk about the execution made her sick, even though her own pride didn't allow her to say such. "Ah. I should talk to her then, find out how easy she socializes. Seems like I could learn a thing or two, eh?"
She replies, hollow voice not aiding in the joke she was trying to tell, so it would probably just fall flat, though Hawkbite did seem to have a sense of humor. Something they remembered from their interactions before this. Hollow mumbles an apology under her breath, just in case. She could never be too sure how the Commander would react, something she would have to work on if they tried to form a bond with him. Which they were trying to do, it was just difficult and Hollow had wanted to simply drop off the map a few times out of their own short comings...
