Mistfall was chosen for neither bait nor exterminator patrols, but she would definitely volunteer for the ambush patrol. She would be joining Dawnstar herself for the ambush, so she wanted to be on her best behavior and show her prowess in battle. Mist padded over to the ambush group and did her best to portray a confidence she wasn't exactly sure she actually felt. She believed in her abilities, that much was certain, but she still questioned if she'd be able to prove herself. No matter. Ambush it was. Time to get out of her head and focus on the task ahead. "I'm here to ambush; whenever we're ready," she meowed, dipping her head in her leader's direction.
They showed up late but it seemed she wouldn't have to replace Gutspaw and Midnightpath. Rookfire appeared more calm now that he had a set task to do. His response was satisfactory enough for her to leave him be for the now. His actions would show her if he was fit as ShadowClan's medicine cat apprentice.
"Brairsplash, take your patrol and head out. When I give the order to attack, you can leave the trees and join us in the battle. Tuftedtusk, take your patrol and follow behind her. Stay near the Grotto until Briarsplash's patrol has finished baiting the rats and is out of sight. Watch each other's backs when clearing out the cave. If anything goes wrong abort the mission and head to Dawning Woods. It is closer than the camp and Rookfire will be around to take care of any injuries."
Since she wasn't sending Tuftedtusk's patrol with backup, they'd have to rely on each other while dealing with whatever remains in the cave. She wasn't too worried, but there was also a chance she might lose a clanmate. If she didn't have enough cats on Tuftedtusk's patrol and there were more rats in the cave than the five could handle, she'd rather fall back than risk their lives. She wasn't keen on losing any more of her grandkids either, she had so few left. Birdpaw, Sleepysunrise, and Quietpaw... they'd be fine or so she hoped.
"Grapepaw, I don't believe you have any battle training, why the hell would I bring you for a fight?" Dawnstar snarled at the apprentice, not appreciating the waste of time.
"Mistlewhisker, you'll take Ratflame, Mistfall, Marigoldpaw, Sagewhistle, Silentpaw, Salamonshade, Shadepaw, Foggymask, Bristlethorn, and Newtbelly. Split off from my patrol once we reach the Dawning Woods and cover the opposing side, I want these vermin trapped and put down for good."
"Pondpaw, Turtlepaw, Shrewstep, Silvershadow, Darkfall, Hawkbite, Spiderthorn, Starlingcall, and Owlthroat. You work with me and block them in from one side, covering any exits. Work together and hold the line, we'll work from the outside in, kill them quickly, and box the rest in." Dawnstar stretched her muscles before leaping down and ordering her patrol out. "Unless there are any questions, let's move."
[Go ahead and post in whichever thread you've been sent to. If your cat didn't show any interest in joining the Ambush Patrol I did not mention them or add them to the patrol. VM me if you have any questions]

´´Tuftedtusk, wait!´´ Pondpaw called out, haring over to her mentor and headbutting him gently on the shoulder. ´´Be careful,´´ She mewed, river-blue hues flicking up to the Enforcer´s own blue eyes. ´´Please.´´
Giving Tuftedtusk one last, pleading look, Pondpaw made her way back to her own patrol. The ambush patrol. The blue-gray mackerel tabby followed Dawnstar, the muscles rippling beneath her pelt.

The marbled tom turned as he heard his name, spotting Pondpaw rushing towards him. Purring as she headedbutted his shoulder, he would smile. "I'll do my best, Pond." He assured her. "You do your best. I'll see you when this is all over."
He held her gaze for a moment and watched her trot back to Dawnstar. He wouldn't let her or the clan down. Flicking his tail, he hared out of the clearing with his patrol behind him.

where rookfire had gotten a grip on the surprising amount of anxiety he had thought himself into and remained only lashing his tail jerkily, dawnstar beginning to select cats for groups instead of immediately sending him away was good. the more information that was shared with the group the more rookfire felt like he was floating between okay and irrationably upset about his lack of involvement in any of that. not like he wanted to be on the bait patrol and show off his horrible climbing skills but something. to be quite frank, at this point it wasnt even the uncertainty that was his main problem, it was the other stuff he couldnt quite seem to shove down for once.
an embarassment. thats what his mother wouldve called him n even though he was long past remembering and following everything she had taught his he couldnt help but agree. ashamed to even be thinking that, he was grateful dawnstars voice interrupted him at this moment in time. prepared to be sent away, rookfire couldnt help but let a small smile slip past his controlled neutrality giving dawnstar a nod as most of the tension left tense set shoulders. field med was better than nothing and knowing he would at least be allowed to do something it was easy to let go off most of the previously gnawing thoughts in order to focus on selecting the correct her. since they'd be dealing with rat bites rather than large gashes burdock root and cobwebs would do. cool gaze briefly scanning the cats gathered around to both select one to help carry and make assumptions as to how much they'd need, rookfire met dawnstars eyes in time with her final question.
"yes ma'am" the medic confirmed before fixing his gaze on a certain multi coloured apprentice he had selected to help with carrying herbs and spare her from having to participate. theyd need hrmmm like five burdock root to be sure, a pawful of cobwebs n perhaps some horsetail to be sure. though, rookfire wouldve preferred if he actually knew anything to deal with possible snake bites, this was the best he could do for now.
"willowpaw i want you with me" rookfire ordered, already turning around to make his way to the medicine den and pick up the herbs needed. if the apprentice followed, rookfire would make her carry the burdock while making sure the cobwebs and horsetail wouldnt stick together on the way himself before returning to join the patrol.
[ this is such a mess im so sorry | @Undertaker ; @Myling - lmk if you want willowpaw replaced ]
[ for my sake; willow has 5x burdock root ; rook has 5 cobwebs + 3 horsetail ]

Willowpaw nearly screamed in sheer joy. "TURTO!!!" She exclaimed. Her worry was swept away, even as she paused, and accepted the herbs from the medicine apprentice. "A-Alright!" She nodded, having no idea what the herb was. Her head would've usually been filled with thoughts like omg i'm going to step on a heckin root and die and then the herbs will be teleported into a seperate demension or I'll bite too hard and they'll disintegrate into dust! or what if i-, but even with her maw full with bittersweet herbs, those thoughts just couldn't find a way into her head.
The apprentice met her friend with a muffled greeting, keeping the Medicine apprentice in sight. "Mmi!!!!!! How'm are mmou???" It felt too long since she'd grinned this wide. Actually..... it'd been a while since she'd felt more than somewhat happy. Willowpaw was too focused on her buddy to think about that.
The apprentice was instead thinking of that maybe it was alright if she got her hopes up this time, about being useful during the fight and all that, because Turtlepaw would be able to balance out all of Willowpaw's mistakes.

rookfire returned to the group of gathered cats with the apprentice he had selected in toe, herbs safely tucked away between his jaws and those of the younger feline and the first thing he heard was more sorting cats into groups. he considered taking a seat but ultimately decided against it, choosing to stand mostly to look more serious and less lazy while listening for his own name to fall again. most of it was dawnstar going into specifics on the plan, starting with sending briarsplashs patrol out to start doing their part, hunting prey sloppily to attract the rats and start leading them from the grotto towards uhhh dawning woods? yeah that should be right..
dawning woods appeared where he would be stationed as well which was good to know and probably a good thing. the more open territory would make it easier to spot and avoid any rats or snakes aiming to attack him or any of the potentially injured cats so he wouldnt have to fight them off mid healing (though, he wouldnt mind all that much either way, it'd just be annoying).
cats being told off yada yada, mistlewhisker received a group of cats to lead to the other side of dawning woods once they arrived which rook welcomed as a good tactic to ensure most of the rats and snakes wouldnt be able to escape. the rest of it was mostly similar orders, more cats being assigned to groups and forming the last line to box the rats in before dawnstar finally leaped down to join them and lead the remaining cats out towards their destination.
rookfire briefly side eyed willowpaw as she greeted another apprentice as if they hadnt seen each other in a season cycle and a half before cutting their little reunion short to address her regarding the herbs again. "i dont need you ta stick around once we're there, so feel free ta join the others then. otherwise i suppose you can make sure no rats disrupt me in case someone gets hurt n i gotta treat em"

Turtlepaw's tail flickered with excitement as she purred, "Hello Willow! I'm doing alright, my dear friend.." She said with a giggle, but her giggles quieted after she realized that the ambush patrol was departing and not to mention Willowpaw's mentor wanted her.
"I'll see you on the field and if not I'll see you later!" Turtlepaw meowed as she dipped her head to Rookfire, then quickly dashed towards the crowd of cats leaving.

The massive tom followed the group in silence. He had only felt with a snake once before and he had luckily been able to avoid any encounters with rats. For the most part, these were unknown enemies to him, and he had little experience to draw upon that could aid in this.
He had fought the minks twice. Once in the initial raid, and then after when they attacked them alongside WindClan. He presumed that these rats shared a furocity with those vile beasts, and were similarly agile, but that did little to help him come up with a plan to approach this. He hated being thrown into unfamiliar circumstances. They led to mistakes and unnecessary risks or caution that could in turn put him or someone else in danger. This sucked.
Awaiting further instruction, Darkfall took up a spot behind Dawnstar — attempting to get somewhat close to the front of the group. Should any issues arise, he wanted to use his large frame as a buffer between their adversaries and the other members. Hopefully, with Dawnstar’s well thought out plan, things wouldn’t go awry.
[ I shall edit this to make it better (more coherent) when I have some time later on]

Where did she go? He swore he heard her loud voice. The drowsy kitten shook away the sleepiness eating at his consciousness and forced himself out of his shared nest. Weepingkit was hungry, his stomach grumbled and growled so loud he was surprised he didn't wake up the rest of his siblings.
Momster wasn't in the den, so where'd she go? The dark tabby quietly padded toward the opening that led into the clearing. He was distracted for a good few minutes playing with lichen that hung over the entrance before carrying on in his search.
"Momster?" He called for the clan leader, noticing that the camp looked pretty empty. Where'd everyone go? The urge to sob and wail until Dawnstar made her appearance tempted him so badly. His eyes were already stinging with tears. His poor rumbly tummy worsened his already agitated state. The mountainous she-cat's demands for him to stop crying about everything rang in the back of Weepingkit's head.
"Bad tears, stay! No crying Weeping won't." He crouched down and wiggled his tiny bottom. He placed all his focus on not letting his tears escape. It was hard, alas, the tears won today. As soon as he blinked his eyes the tears fell free. His chin wobbled as more tears spilled down his face he began crying about not being able to stop crying. Woe was his life.
