MARSHWOLF she/her. 65 moons. massive, scarred dark gray and white she-cat with folded ears and blue eyes
( purrks; just a scratch )
marshwolf will admit, she is a little late to the meeting, and she silently curses herself. she doesn't think she's ever been late to a meeting once in her whole warriorhood, not even when she was young and dumb. when the large, dark molly arrives, a new warrior is being announced. starrywisp. "starrywisp!" she calls out, gruff sounding and it's hard to tell if there's any support in her tone. besides her, she only hears a pawful of other cats chant the new warriors name, and then the apprentices name. she quirks a brow in distaste, a frown settling on her maw. she takes a seat as the apprentices are given mentors, and apprentices are given new ones.
she'll admit, she's not very interested in the new outsider that's joined. she supposes that's what all her children are now, same with cedarsong. outsiders. disappointing, she retorts mentally. her interest only piques when she realizes, oh, she's been picked to mentor this new member - cryingelk. only moments after, she can make out some cat calling her name and she spots the tom sitting down. rising from her spot, the large molly pads over to him and only offers a firm nod as a greeting. "cryingelk," she says, voice stern and strong, unwavering. it's clear she means business. "your training will start immediately. tell me what you know so far, if you know anything?" she continues, though she doubts he knows very much, she's curious to see what he does know. turning her attention back to the shadowledge, she scans the crowd of cats for larkfire once it's announced that she's the new medicine cat.
Cryingelk looked to Marshwolf as they approached, nodding respectively to his mentor. He stood tall once she said his name, alert for what she had to say. "I know how to hunt a mouse, rabbit, some birds. I know a few battle moves, too." The tom said, waiting for approval to continue. He was keen on keeping his spot in his clan. He waited for the scarred molly to answer, dipping his head and starong at the ground. This tom knew how to respect authority, and how important it was to do in life. He had learned that a while go. When he was younger.
Goop'paw Watched everything with deep fascination, daydreaming about the day he got to be a warrior. how awesome would that be?
he stayed relatively quiiet, sitting in a corner of camp, chewing on a dead oak leaf, yum. oak leaves he found were quite an interesting flavor, though if he was being honest, it wasn't aas good as fresh grass!
Goop'paw's Mouth watered at the thought of fresh green grass! so yummy!!!!! at this point the tom was completely unawear of the world around him as he was lost in his daydreams of Fresh green grass... he didn't even notice the drool starting to drip down onto his fluffy chest...
The dark medicine cat lifted his voice to join the others as Starrywisp’s warrior ceremony completed, ”Starrywisp! Starrywisp!” As the voices of congratulations died down for the new warrior, Dawnstar moved on to the new apprentices and then, inevitably, reassignments. He was disappointed but not surprised as his granddaughter went up for her third assigned mentor. Mentorship and patrols, it seemed the very bare requirements of a warrior and yet so many failed to do even that. To treat mentorship as anything other than an honor as it was a chance to serve Shadowclan in one of the most vital ways was a disgrace and Risingpaw wasn’t the first of his kin to go through pathetic mentors and it irked him all the more when it was his own. All the same, he replayed his usual display of searching out Batflight to check out his granddaughter’s newest mentor. He’d seen her recently and he didn’t dislike the warrior. Hopefully she’d continue to hold such a place in his regard.
With the news of Larkfire being dropped, Elmshadow gave a small dip of his head in his own personal acknowledgement of his choice, suggested through Dawnstar herself. Then he looked out over the crowd at his newest apprentice beside her mate and some kits.
The large apprentice called out her congratulations to the new warrior, ”Starrywisp! Starrywisp!” Though she was convinced that Starrywisp wouldn’t hold the title of Shadowclan’s newest warrior for long. She grinned to herself, hardly able to hold in the excitement. Then there were new den mates announced and then she heard her own name, among the reassignments. Her head cocked curiously. She hadn’t seen Miss…uh…Miss…New Mentor since that one patrol but she left? Goody and now Miss New Mentor? She realized too late that she had gotten caught up on her name and hadn’t heard her newest mentor. Luckily her mentor didn’t leave her wondering long as the warrior approached her and introduced herself. The gray and white apprentice perked up, smiling, Batflight Batflight Batflight…”Hi hi Miss…Miss Bat! I’m Risingpaw, yep yep!” Oh, her training. Risingpaw faltered a moment, thinking through it all. She’d done so much of it, yes yes! Though she couldn’t think of any trainings with Goody or Miss New Mentor. But Miss Bat had asked about her last mentor. Did that matter? Risingpaw couldn’t decide so she decided to just go into it all. ”Well Papa Elmshadow showed me the territory and how to hunt stuff and Greatm…I learned hunting and killing and fighting. And Anty Larkie taught me all sorts of battle moves and Miss Ivy taught us how to fight badgers when I was a kit and Worms taught me how to stalk and be sneaky at night! And…I think that’s a lot of it.”
She was momentarily concerned about leaving anything out but then Miss Star continued talking and told everybody that Anty Larkie was going to be Papa Elmshadow’s new medicine cat apprentice! Risingpaw looked through the crowd moon-eyed for her Anty Larkie. MooMoo said Anty Larkie was the best fighter in all of Shadowclan! But now she was going to be healing everybody. Shadowclan must be the coolest clan in the whole forest having both medicine cats being such strong warrior-medicine-cats! And now she would be able to see both Papa Elmshadow and Anty Larkie in the same den! She didn’t want to leave her new mentor but she also wanted to go see Anty Larkie again to say her congratulations. She resolved she’d have to go later at some point.

Batflight let out a little chirp at the nickname. Miss Bat, how cute! She tilted her head, keeping track as Risingpaw listed off her prior training. Territory tour, hunting, battle training, stealth training... It seemed like she had the basics well and truly down.
"It sounds like you're well on your way to becoming a warrior," she mewed. "It seems like most of what you still need will come with experience, but if you want to go over anything, be sure to let me know! We could do some fishing, if that's something that interests you? It's not compulsory by any means, but a few fish on the pile can help out when prey is sparse."
She noticed the apprentice's attention wandering a little as Dawnstar spoke again. She seemed a little restless. "Well, anyway, we can come back to that - it seems like you're eager to be somewhere," she mewed, whisker's twitching in amusement. "I'll be around camp a lot for the next moon, so be sure to come see me if you need anything at all!"
Bigbird? She was still calling her that? Dawnstar fixed the apprentice with her usual intense glare, but didn't bother correcting her on the nickname for now. There was no point in ruining the brat's warrior ceremony it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. She could tolerate the stupid name, she supposes. Huffing loudly, the dark tabby quickly carried on with the ceremony.
"Then by my power, I give you your warrior name. From this day forth you'll be known as Starrywisp, we honor your creativity and determination and welcome you as a full warrior of ShadowClan." Dawnstar swished her tail while turning her head attention to the clan.
"Starrywisp." The leader started the call and expected a response.
Dawnstar took a moment to allow the new warrior to be properly welcomed and congratulated by her clanmates. Once the cries died down, she moved on to the two young kits waiting patiently for their ceremonies.
"Pumpkinkit and Shadowkit, you've both reached the age of six moons and it's time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior names, you will be known as Pumpkinpaw and Shadowpaw."
"Foxstrike you will mentor Pumpkinpaw. Sweetbriar, you are training Shadaowpaw." Dawnstar told both warriors. Pausing once again to give the apprentices a chance to be congratulated.
"Now we have some reassignments. Batflight, I need you to take over Risingpaw's training. Hawkgrowl you're with Batpaw, Daisydream you have Wasppaw as your apprentice, Tallmaple you've been extra lazy you'll be training Stonepaw, Mistlewhisker you'll train Beetlepaw."
"Oh, I've also picked up an outsider, his name is Cryingelk. He'll be serving as an apprentice within the clan. Marshwolf, I'd like you to teach him everything there is to learn about ShadowClan and assess him to ensure that he's fit for warriorhood." Dawnstar commanded. Dawnstar was only giving the tom one chance, he better not screw it up.
While all the mentors and apprentice took their time meeting each other, Dawnstar drew attention to her daughter. The Clan leader's gaze picked out the she-cat sitting with her mate, Darkfall, and dealing with kits. Since Darkfall was mated to Larkfire did this mean she had to adopted him and his kits into her family? She supposed it'd be odd if she didn't consider them kin to some extent. Hmm, she didn't mind it more family members for her.
"ShadowClan!" The Queen of Mean raised her voice to ensure the attention was directed where it should be, on her. "It has been decided that Larkfire will be the new medicine cat apprentice of ShadowClan."
"H.. Hi?" Whiteheart stammered, scooting up closer. This was... Lynxpaw's mentor, wasn't she? And now a warrior ceremony. How it must hurt, knowing your apprentice would never make it into a warrior, seeing that he was... Dead. No no no, merely hanging out watching them from StarClan. "Ss... Sorry. About Lynxpaw. He's up there, I guess..." The warrior trailed off, embarrassed. Maybe that wasn't how one approached another. Talking about the deceased. Great StarClan wasn't he an idiot! Whiteheart licked his white chest fur, heat rising from his belly.
Shadowlight looked up in surprise. "H-hello…" she struggled to remember this cat's name. "Whitestorm, right?" When he asked about Lynx, she winced, tears welling up in her eyes. She had managed to forget her apprentice, managed to make herself think that he was just gone. "W-well, yes…I was…" she suddenly burst into tears. "Poor Lynx…" she sobbed.

The large black tabby chuckled softly at Larkfire’s reaction. She could be so cute when she wanted to be, a stark contrast to her usual stoic demeanor. He hadn’t even been that loud, why had she reacted in such a way? She was so silly.
He waited for what his lover was going to tell him when a little form wrapped around his leg. The sudden intrusion startled him a bit, causing him to flinch before he looked down. Oh, it was just Fallenkit… the feeling initially reminded him of his reoccurring nightmares where the paws of his deceased loved ones reached out at his legs in an attempt to pull him into a sinking pit of darkness. That was an issue for another time though…
”Of course sweetie,” the tom said softly, not wanting to draw the attention of the rest of the clan while Dawnstar was speaking. It was a bit weird, having kits that were his own. Of course, there was Sleepykit, but the two of them hadn’t had much time to bond in the short time he and Larkfire had become a proper couple. This whole being a dad thing was new to him, but one thing he was sure about was that he’d do a better job than his own who hadn’t even known he existed for most of his life.
The state that Fallenkit was giving him was a bit unnerving, and he couldn’t help but notice that their eyes were so similar. Out of the four kits he had with Heron, his eldest was the one that had inherited more of a mix of her two parents. Her grey, black, and white fur was reminiscent of both of them, but her eyes? Those were his eyes. Looking into them made it very clear that this child was his. Would any kits he had with Larkfire in the future be the same?
Putting that thought aside for the time being, Darkfall leaned down to hear what the young she-cat was trying to tell him. Again, he found himself flinching, this time at his daughter’s question instead.
Of all the times… He cast a worried glance in Larkfire’s direction to see if she heard, however, the queen was turned in a different direction, not responding so it was unclear if she was able to hear the contents of their conversation.
He pondered the question for a moment, trying to think of a way to properly answer. Heron was the mother of his kits and she gave them to him, that was undeniable, but calling Larkfire their new mother just seemed… wrong. It’s not like anything happened to Heron, she just… wasn’t there.
”Yes…? Larkfire will take over the role of your mother while you’re here, if you’ll allow it.” He said, sending a hesitant glace over at his lover. Truthfully, he hadn’t yet told Larkfire about the four little ones he brought from the outskirts, just hadn’t made the time. Also, it was sure to lead to an awkward conversation that he hadn’t yet been ready for, but would need to happen a bit sooner now. Additionally, he wasn’t too sure how the four would react to the news that Larkfire would be filling in as their mother. After all, other than Fallenkit, the other three hadn’t seemed too pleased to even be coming along with him. It’d work out, right…? Larkfire would for sure accept them, maybe? And then the four would eventually warm up to the young couple, right?
”Hey… Larkfire later we need t-” He shut his mouth shut as Dawnstar began speaking once more. Oh, Starrypaw had gotten her warrior name! ”Starrywisp! Starrywisp!” he called out. He felt a bit of an extra obligation to cheer the clan’s newest warrior on, as he had personally handled her assessment. It was odd, really. Having got to play such an important part in a young cat’s life despite not yet being finished with the training of his own apprentices. He wondered if Rufflepaw and Cobwebpaw would do what Moonpaw hadn’t, and become warriors as well.
In addition to Starrywisp, there were two new apprentices named that he was sure to cheer for as well, unconsciously bringing his tail forward to try and wrap it around Fallenkit, as he was sure the unfamiliar loudness would startle her. A couple of reassignments, a new outsider joining, and… Was that it? Darkfall stared at the leader who’s gaze seemed to be drawn to him. Well, not to him exactly. More like she was looking at…
Turning, he looked at Larkfire as the sudden announcement left the Shadow Queen’s mouth. Slack-jawed and wide-eyed, he stared blankly at his mate whose position in the clan had changed. He’d never have thought that Larkfire would be one to train to become a healer. Is that what she had been getting ready to tell him before he got distracted?
A burst of pride swelled within the large tom as his eyes lit up at the revelation. ”Congratulations!” he purred happily, gently bumping against her ”I know you’re going to do great!” He meant it. Well, he wasn’t to sure how she’d take to the new job when she had spent so long training to become an elite enforcer, but surely with her talent and aptitude for learning, she’d do just fine.
The sudden intrusion of a young torbie rushing up to the pair caught him off guard, but caused the subtle smile he had to grow a bit more. That was Hawkkit (as heard from her announcing herself), and Larkfire’s niece? Well, she sure seemed excitable – very very different from the cat she called grandmother.
Shortly after Hawkkit left, Cougarbite approached. He was related to Larkfire through Dawnstar was it? Darkfall couldn’t really remember how, maybe they were cousins or something? Oh well, he’d figure that out later. He gave a slight dip of his head in the warrior’s direction (who recently had a huge litter of his own, no?), gently pressing into Larkfire’s side, he backed up a little to give the two some space – urging Fallenkit to do the same. It was Larkfire’s moment after all! Surely he could give her some time to get congratulated by the rest of the clan without hovering over her like a bee to a flower.
Featherpaw muttered a congratulations to the announced cats, Larkfire's name was slightly doused in jealousy however. The bluish tabby payed little attention to reassignments, but certain names made his ear twitch in curiosity. Such as his father's name being called to Stonepaw, a cat Featherpaw didn't know well. Foxstrike was another cat who had recieved an apprentice, one of the new ones which was Pumpkinpaw. Foxstrike also happened to be Featherpaw's sister Ashpaw's mentor. What a coincidence. Noticing his sister's dismay, he reassured her with his feeble attempt at a joke. "Well at least you'll have a friend to train with?"

Ashpaw felt like running to the apprentices' den to hide. But why? she thought. The medicine cat's apprentice isn't even an apprentice!
She could feel the bitterness taking over her. She saw her brother with the tail of her eye.
At his words, she only nodded her head in approval. It wasn't that. She hadn't even noticed that her mentor now had two apprentices.
But after all, why was she so upset?? She hadn't even said she wanted to be a medicine apprentice. And when is he going to see how bad I am in combat? Will Foxstrike only keep the other apprentice? What will happen to me?
A warm tear ran down her muzzle as she he was snuggling next to Featherpaw.
