When the smoke clears, you're left with a pounding in your skull. The world tilts, hazy and unclear, as the distorted image of a fuzzy head in front of you appears. A snout stuck right in your face, followed by muffled words that sound like you're underwater while your ears ring. Faintly, as everything comes back into focus, you begin to hear the syllables like distant echoes...
"Hey...uh... you alright?...hey!...you look out of it, heh. Did I hit you too good? Uncle Crows taught me a trick like that...pretty cool, huh...?"
As your disoriented mind finally refocuses, you are now looking at the culprit of the voice: a rather handsome young tom, approximately 8 moons, staring at you with bright, deep blue eyes that shine like the sun off of ocean waves. He's a stocky thing, with powerful legs, promising a future build of strength and power to be had. Once he can get his head on straight, that it. Right now, he's grinning at you with a mischievous smile, a tooth poking out of his maw. He pokes you once more with a sheathed paw, though you hardly felt it before in your half-unconsciousness; now, it's a little jab to the shoulder, trying to shake you awake.
"Hey! Can ya hear me? You're starin' off in to space like you've seen a StarClan spirit! It's me, Gracklepaw. Sorry for, uh... all that. I thought it'd be fun to sneak attack ya, but I think I went a little too hard."
Chuckling, Gracklepaw steps back to give you a bit of breathing room. Despite the insufferable cheekiness of his prank, he also offers you a charming smile and adorable tilt of his head that makes it feel like he can melt all of your frustrations away like the last bits of snow in early newleaf. As you've come to find, it's hard to stay mad at the kid — something about his words and ways makes it feel like whatever qualm you held against him is null and void.
"Aaanywho... don't think I've really seen ya around. Lucky for you, I'm as bored as a restless kit, and have got time before tunneling training later. Yeah, that's right! Did I tell ya Imma tunneler? Mhm. Crowtooth himself is my mentor! Heh, yeah. So, who're you? What's your story, friend?"
For some reason, you find it hard to not answer the apprentice's questions, even if your head is still spinning. You come to the conclusion that this tom makes friends wherever he goes — and you'd be correct. As you two sit off in the sunny clearing, Gracklepaw listens to you with rapt attention, giggling and commenting as you say your name and a bit about yourself. And what about you, you ask him?
That opens the proverbial can of worms you might not have been prepared for, a gushing torrent of anecdotes and chatter that fill your heads and re-induce that headache you were fighting off. But there's a few pointers you hold onto within the mess of oddly-eloquent babble, once he puts his mind to it:
- Gracklepaw is a tunneler apprentice and future warrior of WindClan (and he really, REALLY wants to be a Fury, just like his dad. Maybe even deputy, like Uncle Crow! And 'THE BEST TUNNELER WARRIOR THEY'VE EVER SEEN!!')... those words were yowled particularly enthusiastically, and they bounce around your skull like an incessant pebble.
- The kid, you've gotta admit, has quite the silver tongue; already you wanted to forget any wrongs he'd ever had against you, and go along laughing at his charm and wit. Despite his mischievous and playful nature, he also shows a level of cleverness and guile that may be surprising. One that is... sort of flirty, as you come to notice, making your skin feel hot under your fur. But he takes it all in stride, glossing over his subtle compliments and hints with a quip or shrug, continuing as if nothing happened. It's intriguing, infuriating, and... he somehow pulls it off all too well.
- He has a family he really loves and is really proud of. As stated, Crowtooth is his uncle; Egretpaw and Crowpaw are his siblings, and Hawkfur (A FURY!! Didja know that!?) is his father. Bravebird was the name of his mother, who unfortunately passed away when he was quite young; his memories of her are fuzzy. But he still remembers her unique scent, and has tried to find it elsewhere. Nothing quite matches. The closest he gets is his siblings.
As you continue to listen, you find that the layers of this gray-and-beige tabby are a bit deeper than you'd thought. Underneath his infectious drive and fiery will lies a deepset need to be strong and capable for his family, for his Clan; he's got a good heart and the best intentions, even if his antics or mishaps don't always shape up that way.
He's got energy for days, but it mellows out as he dwells on things, and is quite charismatic when it comes down to it. You foresee his exuberance as something he might begin to tame (not fully outgrow) as time goes on. He's also got a huge heart for others; just as much as you listen to him, he turns and asks you all the same, wanting to know more about your business. Not necessarily in the nosy way of snooping — he just genuinely cares, and 'wants to get to know ya'.
"Ah, thorns 'n thistles — I just realized what time it is! Look at how high the sun is! Uncle Crows is gonna kill me." The tom flashes you that trademark smile, somehow even more charming than the last, a sly wink thrown in there."But I'll catch ya later, yeah? Maybe we can share some prey? Lookin' forward to it!"
And as the apprentice bounds away, there is a sense of loss; not just the absence of presence, nor a simple gap where there'd once been a chattering life form. The air feels... colder, in a way. Not because it's chilly outside; the sun is quite warm. No, it's because you've found that as consuming and demanding as Gracklepaw's boisterous presence can be... it was also warm, inviting, and comforting. He had that unique ability to make you feel at ease and welcomed, if not a bit flattered and boosted yourself.
Like you mean something.
Even as your ears take a much-needed break, you find yourself almost missing the sound of that excited, uplifting voice. He'd made you feel, even for a few moments, as if anything were possible — and that's a trait that few could ever possess.
Perhaps you're looking forward to sharing that rabbit later, too.

Hey howdy hey! I am a big fan™ of Gracklepaw and the character of him. I plan to keep him alive for a long while and roleplay him to my heart's content! Part of his thing is being very flirty/charming/etc. as he grows (I haven't done too much since he's been a youngin', but now's about the age where that side starts to come out, eh?). His Carrd and WCO bio are available in my sig for more info.
I LOVE Windpaw's description and the emotional aspects of her. I feel like these two could both clash and blend together super well; his personality could be grounding to her, or make her go crazy. It spells all sorts of fun and chaos... and I like it Two high-energy characters together certainly can't be bad, right? Right??
Anywho! I LOVE slowburns (it is basically the only romance I go for LOL) so I am totally fine with this taking its time. Even if Windpaw and Gracklepaw remain merely as crushes/in that accursed 'talking' stage, that is fine too! But I'm also down for longterm. We can see how it goes hehe.
As an HR + elite in other Clans, I'm quite active and plan to be on WCO for awhile! So no worries of me dropping off the map (barring extenuating circumstances) :3. I'd love for our characters to get a chance to interact, even if he's not chosen for the endgame crush! Gracks could always use more folks to annoy hehe

I have to admit, I got a good laugh out of this lmao :wheeze: I love it! And since Windpaw is now also training to be a tunneler, this'll be so much more fun and interesting. Their personalities just,,, make sense together and I find that both hilarious and also kinda sweet
Windpaw would definitely enjoy his company (like she always does), but it'd be pretty hard for her to take him seriously because she isn't the type to fall for "flirty tricks" easily. Unlike her sister... Hm... I'd really love to see how these two would go in terms of relationship, whether it stays platonic or not >:]
I'm up for a roleplay between the two anytime, feel free to bother me !!
