They were moving onto WindClan now.
That was...
He doesn't like this scent either.
He probably won't like ThunderClan's as well.
It all reminded him too much of the raid.
Fadingstar asked a question.
Oh, wait, maybe he knows the answer to this?
"Uh... it would be reported back, right?" He said, though quietly due to his slight fear of being wrong and embarrassing himself.

You all already know RiverClan scent by heart, so there shouldn't be any issue with not being able to scent our own scent markers."
He intended to make a point with his final sentence, not wanting any apprentice to get it in their head that they could use inexperience with Clan scents as an excuse for crossing the border.
Aspenpaw piped up with a comment about how ShadowClan should've been exiled, before asking about what to do when encountering a trespasser away from the rest of the patrol. While Fadingstar agreed with the sentiment that ShadowClan should've been driven off a long time ago, he wanted to keep the group focused on learning.
He glanced at Adderstrike and Redmire as they offered answers to Aspenpaw's question. For the first time in... well, ever, Fadingstar found himself agreeing more with Redmire than Adderstrike.
"Adderstrike is right in that you shouldn't be going off alone as an apprentice. If you're on a border patrol and a warrior tells you to do that, I want you to refuse and tell Dusklion about it as soon as you're back. But if it happens once you're a warrior, Redmire is right. Any trespassers should immediately be challenged. If they refuse to leave, they should be attacked, and killed if necessary. The only exception is if its a young apprentice; if anyone in this Clan kills a kid unless it's absolutely, unavoidably necessary, you won't be remaining in RiverClan.
"You all have strong voices; if an attack happens, screech at the top of your lungs for help.
"Ideally, nobody should ever be alone at the border these days. Someday, when you're a warrior and on a border patrol for a Clan we're on bad terms with, always stay in pairs or as a group."
There were no other questions aside from that, so Fadingstar beckoned the group on. Their next stop would be WindClan; a Clan that had quickly grown to be a huge disappointment.
"This is WindClan's border. Feel how strong the wind is here? WindClan live on open plains, so they don't have the protection from wind that trees provide. You should be able to scent a fresh, airy, dusty scent; that's WindClan.
"WindClan used to be a noble, honorable Clan, but over the past couple of seasons they've turned fox-hearted and cowardly. Twilightstar used to be a great leader worth admiring, but unfortunately her leadership has declined. I don't know if it's senility or what, but the fact remains that WindClan is no longer the grand Clan they used to be. They showed more restraint than the other Clans during the 3v1, but I still encourage all of you to exercise caution around them."
Glancing around, Fadingstar spotted a few tufts of fur caught on a spiky bush. Part of the bush was trampled, suggesting some sort of scuffle had happened here. The bush was directly on the border, so it was too difficult to tell which Clan the fur belonged to.
Nodding toward the bush, Fadingstar turned toward the apprentices. "Can anyone tell me how you'd handle this if you came across it on patrol?"
|
Softpaw nodded softly as her leader answered her question. Oh, alright then!! Riverclan was strong, regardless of new borders or old. Softpaw watched her leader, spotting the fur just as he looked at it. "Try......" Softpaw started, flicking her ears self counsiously as she mewed, "Try to find a scent..... and if you do on our side of the border.... try and follow it? And then... report it to your clan leader.... no matter what you find??" Softpaw questioned.

- - - This was exciting! She hadn't ever seen the borders before and Windclan's was particularly well, windy. She smiled with wide teeth as she felt blades of grass twirl through her fur. Okay, so Windclan had a scent that was airy and dusty, okay! What an odd combination, but it made scene. Nocat regardless of clan had a scent that had musk to it, but it seemed the other clans believed Riverclan was an exception to that. Why don't they like the smell of fish...? It smelt pretty normal to her.
Her ears dropped as the leader began to speak of the attack on Riverclan once more. She knew it was important to be aware of the past and what happened in it, but those memories were already burned in her brain, she didn't want to experience it all over again whenever Fadingstar felt the need to mention it. She tried to school her expression, but a frown tugged on her lips.
Soon enough (thank the stars...) the group was turned to focus on something else, a few tufts of fur on a nearby bush. Marigoldpaw was certain she wasn't the first to pipe up but she raised her trembling voice regardless. "Uh smell it! It could be uh... a predator or some other cat who uh. Erm. Decided to cross borders! I think? Yeah?"

“I can fix her!”

Adderstrike cocked her head to the side and narrowed her eyes for a moment to try and read through Fadingstar's words. Usually her and Redmire weren't seen together with agreement so was there something going on here. "Remember that you aren't a warrior just yet so be careful around other warriors. When you become a warrior, drive them off if you can, though just be careful for any nasty tricks. If they seem alone they might have some others lying in wait to pounce ya'." Adderstrike added in. She didn't want for the apprentice to get it into their heads that they could fight warriors alone. Especially not Shadowclan, the most vile of clans. She also wanted to make sure in the other adults heads that it wasn't safe for kids to fight alone. Maybe she was too much of a worrywart but she would die on this molehill if she had to.

Re: We're Off to See the Borders! [ RC App Training ]
Apparently the WindClan border was next. Sedgewater Valley - not exactly the safest place for a group of apprentices with the ravine's edge and the raging river below just a few feet away.
Her ears twitched with Fadingstar's explanation. Sure, maybe they'd been a large part of the massive fight that drove RiverClan out, but given their track record with nearly every surrounding Clan? It could have been worse. They could have been barred from their land for good, without a chance at redemption upon their return. Mercy was something that took real honor and nobility, especially after everything that had been done. Redmire leaned in to address Ravenpaw.
"For the record, I disagree with that. Twilightstar has shown a good bit of mercy, and she stands up for her Clan, from what I can tell; something every leader should be doing." A pointed look in Fadingstar's direction, but nothing more.

Re: We're Off to See the Borders! [ RC App Training ]
Rainpaw followed along with the tour, now staying close to Shellpaw. She found that she enjoyed his company! And going through this process with a friend would be spades more enjoyable than along. Of course, she didn't really care for the next border either. She looked at the bush Fadingstar indicated, her nose twitching thoughtfully. She nodded in agreement with her denmate. "Shouldn't we inspect the scent first? We shouldn't assume it's another clan or even a predator. Could have been a clanmate hunting or something." She mewed thoughtfully, blinking in surprise when she realized she said that outloud.
Rainpaw ducked her head, embarrassed now and worried that she was wrong. "O-or something..." She mumbled, shooting a pleading glance at Shellpaw. Hide me! She just didn't want anycat to stare at her or laugh at her suggestion.

Ravenpaw looked at Redmire when she disagreed with Fadingstar, at first tense because she wasn't sure what Fadingstar's reaction would be. But she also found it interesting. "It sounds like they were at the great battle too." She murmured in agreement. From Fadingstar's own account, WindClan was not as vicious as the other clans had been. Of course, she's never met a WindClan cat before, nor their leader. Nor was she around for this battle. So her opinion didn't really matter much.
She glanced at her twin as she spoke, then looked at the bush again. "If there's blood it would be important to distinguish if it's cat blood or prey blood too." She added. "But a scene like this with only fur and a trampled bush could mean a scuffle with an enemy, a predator, or hunter's sloppy kill." She was backing up her sister on this, and stated her opinion and thoughts with more confidence. Like Redmire. She shot a glance to her mentor, wondering if she was proud or concerned that Ravenpaw added her voice to this question.

Re: We're Off to See the Borders! [ RC App Training ]
Shellpaw
he/they - 6 moons - Go with the flow [inactive]
[Note: Renamed to Seapaw, this rp happens before name change]
Eat their kits!?!?!?! Eep! Shellpaw almost jumped at the mention. No wonder they'd chase RiverClan out, what a terrible clan... Soon enough, Fadingstar had them moving on, so he tried to just, think about something else. They stuck with Rainpaw as they moved on, wondering what the next border would be like. The ShadowClan border had been super swampy - would the others be like that?
WindClan's border began with a cliff - a steep one. Below that, sat a rushing river, which led into flat land filled with sedge and other undergrowth. Past there, began heather, which he'd never seen before. Maybe that marked WindClan's side? Fadingstar warned them of WindClan, but he was sure he didn't need warning. Their fur bristled as the wind pricked their skin. None of these clans were to be trusted. Who in their right mind would drive a whole clan out? Vaguely, he recounted what was said last meeting... That Dusklion, maybe, had killed someone? Was that it? All this time, they'd thought there'd been no reason: that RiverClan had been run out just for fun - just as an excuse to exercise brutality. But when he put two and two together... Still. Did one death justify the deaths of so many RiverClan cats? Plus, he knew without a doubt that Dusklion wouldn't kill unjustly. Dusklion was a RiverClan cat, and RiverClan isn't about that.
Once again, he'd missed a big chunk of Fadingstar's spiel, so he began to try and figure out what was going on. Rainpaw was giving some kind of answer, and it sounded super smart. She shot him a glance, so he gave her an encouraging smile - her answer sounded right - though Shellpaw hadn't listened to the question. "I agree with Rainpaw!" they chimed confidently, both to encourage her, and to make it look like he'd been listening properly.
