cedarpaw. with lynxmoon being a newly-made mentor, the tom looked around the clearing, eyes wide as he sought his apprentice. he was on the older end, he thought, once his eyes fell upon the boy. nearly due for his assessment, and so lynxmoon would not have him for very long. nonetheless, he approached cedarpaw, giving a nod of his head. "howdy there," he mewed. "seems i'm your new mentor. you need anythin', you just let me know, aw-right?"

Moorsong's ears perked when Twilightstar called her name for the return patrol to the Windy Hills. The small queen dipped her head. Hopefully, her familiar face to the barn cats would bring some sense of calm. She didn't want to fight them, but she also wouldn't hesitate if that is what it came to. Her silver eyes glimmered as she looked around the gathered cats. 4 apprentices, 2 furies and several other warriors.
Twilightstar sat down as cats slowly joined her at the base of the galewood. She got more cats than she was asking for. Crowtooth had said there were only ten barn cats, so she should bring equal numbers and a few extra just in case. Leechscar and Dapplebreeze were automatically added to the patrol, having the two furies tag along put her mind at ease.
"Dapplebreeze, Leechscar, Birchfawn, Whiterabbit, Shrikepaw, Rookpaw, Shademist, Gracklepaw, Gnawingpaw, Echosong, and Moorsong." Twelve cats might seem like a little much, but since four were apprentices without battle experience, she'd rather be safe than sorry. She was more worried bout their dog than the barns.
Rookpaw and Shrikepaw, stay close to your brother, and Gracklpaw and Gnawingpaw don't stray from your grandmother's side. Twilightstar meowed to the apprentices before turning to look at Jaggedpaw.
She padded over and booped her apprentice on the nose with hers now that she had his attention. "You and I will visit the barn later, so you'll sit this patrol out." She informed him. Once she got Beast settled into the farm, she had plans to visit him and see if hunting in the barn was as good as the patrol had said it would be. If he found some flaw or weakness that WindClan could exploit, that would be great too. Jaggedpaw wasn't hiding his disdain for inviting outsiders into the clan very well; she didn't think he would, but he's already proven to have a penchant for aggression and fighting within the clan. She didn't want him acting out during the patrol.
She needed to get to know him better before she trusted him with more important stuff like this. The little ankle-biter seemed to have a bit of an ego; who better to humble him than his clan leader and now mentor? She hoped he'd settle down a bit more now that he had her as his mentor. Being her apprentice came with bragging rights and whatnot, but he would have to start thinking before acting. Any trouble he caused would reflect badly on the leader.
"My knowledge of barn cats isn't as great as I would like, but from what I've heard, most twolegs only keep one or two barn cats on their territory at a time. Ten is excessive, but I believe the twolegs brought in extra because of us. I hope the loner I bring in will be impressive enough that the twolegs won't try to replace the ones they lost. But even if they do, I'd bet mice that he'd be able to clear out any other barn cats that twolegs try to bring in." She told Spottedpaw.
"The twolegs aren't trapping us to make us barn cats. None of our lost clanmates were reported to be seen around the farm or by any of the barn cats. None of the cats who returned from being captured were injured at all, either." Twilightstar stated patiently and sat down.
"As for them bringing in more blood-thirsty cats... We'll deal with them. I truly don't think any barn cats they bring in will be worse than challenging our rival clans." She doubted barn cats skin their enemies or torture apprentices, but they'll be chased off like the others, regardless of their strength.
"I understand your safety concerns, but I can't have WindClan sit idly while twolegs steal territory from us. It's no different from how we fight with any other threat or predators that challenge us; we fight." Some of them get injured and some die, but that is the warrior way of life.
"I don't know what trouble the twolegs will bring, but we'll deal with it as it comes, like we do with all our problems." She assured the apprentice and then glanced at the remaining cats to see if anyone else had any questions.
"Crowbones, Ashgrove, Snowybreeze, and Lightnight, I don't care if it's done in shifts, but I would appreciate one or two of you standing guard at the entrance until the patrol returns in case I need to send one of the apprentices back for reinforcements." The four could join that patrol if Crowtooth okayed it.
A small grin slipped onto her face as she heard her name being called. Yes! It'd be her first time participating in a potential battle. Though, of course, diplomacy was for the best- but judging by the fact that her brother and the other fury was brought along, a battle may ensue. Or it could just be another underwhelming excursion for Rookpaw. Either way, the slender gray apprentice was more than ready for it. She watched as another apprentice got turned away and wanted to scoff at him, but stars, she knew better and held it in. That may have very well been her, turned away. Maybe on a second thought, she felt a little bad for him.
She made her way quickly towards Shrikepaw to flash her a grin and excited look. She didn't say anything but her face revealed it all. Rookpaw doubted the cats were just going to leave without a fight and secretly, the slender apprentice wanted to see one ensue. Not that she wanted her clanmates to get hurt, but stars, it would be great to watch and learn from an actual battle experience- to learn from her mother.
Birchfawn sat down in front of Twilightstar, watching the cats she called trickle towards the leader. Birchfawn looked to Shrikepaw and their sibling, Rookpaw. Birchfawn purred and bumped Shrikepaw with a shoulder. "Glad you were able to join in, Shrike. Let's hope this mission will be easy."

"Hey! Gracks! We're with grandma! Come on come on! Over here!"
Gnawingpaw overenthusiastically crowed at her... nephew? Cousin? Uncle? In Lightningstorm's opinion, Snowybreeze's family tree was confusing enough that she decided that maybe she didn't need to keep thinking about it too much longer, not while she was keeping an eye on all the cats that had been summoned. Speaking of the oversized tom, it seemed like he had been called for guard duty as well. Gratefully, one of the other cats assigned to guard while the patrol was out took the lead, as the older tom tended to be too shy to do so despite his moons of experience. Unfortunately, his guarding schedule was... a bit on the moronic side of things. Just how long were they expecting Twilightstar to be gone for? She was taking apprentices, for star's sake. Obviously she would be back before nightfall. They weren't even going outside the territory. Some cats just liked to talk out of their arse sometimes. And speaking of cats that liked to talk out of their arse...
She'd gone to her daughters to congratulate them on their names. She couldn't really bring herself to call them out like the rest of the clan did. She had never seen the point in it. But Windrose and Littlebug had become warriors, and despite herself, she was proud. She'd had nothing to do with their upbringing. She couldn't have. She hadn't remembered them... and Firestorm hadn't informed her that her litter wasn't just calling her mother in a confused way. In a way she felt robbed of the potential of having helped raised a litter of kits, but on the other paw, she felt it had been for the best. Prior to her memories having been erased her mind had been a mess. Broken, paranoid, and incapable of raising a kit, let alone five of them. If anything, perhaps it had been for the best she hadn't been there for them. It might actually just be selfish to try and play the mother now, when she had no right to it.
And yet feeling as selfish and idiotic as she did right now paled to how... self centered Vinesmoke's little speech was. Sorry... did she say little? She meant long. And drawn out. And frankly incredibly impressive how much he was making it all about him. About how proud he was. About how happy he was that they would be working together. And getting far too close to Littlebug for her liking. In an instant, her eyes narrowed, a deadpanned, unimpressed expression on her features.
To make matters worse, it seemed every meeting she came to, he was cozying up to an apprentice or a just named warrior. It certainly made her question his intentions some. Once was fine. Twice was odd, but coincidences happened. Thrice and having it be with one of her daughters, however, made her get the very real urge to claw his eyes out and throw him down a badger sett. At least this time he wasn't fainting or standing up to defend the moron that had just threatened the leader.
A snort escaping her, she turned her attention to Windrose and Littlebug once more. The dark tom had taken away enough of her energy already, and she would rather not bother. Especially when clearly there was work to be done. Offering a grin at the two calico she-cats, she chirped, "Congratulations again, loves. If you'll excuse me... I need to get a word in with Twilightstar before she leaves."
Attempting to nuzzle both, she left soon after, her skinny frame soon getting lost in the mass of cats. Making her way through the crowd, she approached the lilac she-cat, dipping her head respectfully before speaking, Dapplebreeze gathering up her grandkits behind her.
"I would ask if you want me to go along in case of emergencies, but neither you nor Crowtooth let me have any fun," she mewed, a purr in her voice making it clear she was merely lightening the mood before she spoke in earnest. "I made a small base of operations of sorts at the halfway point to the twoleg spot last time you lot raided. I know I had Rabbitpaw to tend to camp here, so I understand if you prefer me staying back, but I figured I'd ask if you prefer me taggin' along just in case. I can gather up some herbs and a couple of helpers if it makes you feel better. 'Course, I also understand if you need someone to kitsit Crowtooth while he's in charge."
Again, the wiry framed medicine cat grinned, her maw toothy as she purred with glee. Was she worried for the cats leaving? Of course she was. She'd seen more broken limbs this past moon than she usually did in two full seasons. But showing off just how concerned she was wouldn't do anyone any favors. This way she got to ask her questions and not come across as a worrywart and in turn make everyone on edge. Would Twilightstar see right through her little act? Probably. But it wasn't the leader she was trying to keep in high spirits. She was certain that if she was concerned, the lilac queen's mind had already crossed through every negative scenario she had... and then some.

Haha, yes!! She bounced with glee. Mama made the right choice! Ooo, ooo Dapplebreeze was coming too, she liked Dapplebreeze. And her new mentor, Birchfawn! PLUS Rookpaw and Leechscar. Oh she was over the moon right now. Looks like they had to stay by Leechscare though... Hm. Fine. The twoleg traps were pretty dangerous to be fair, and she was still pretty scared of them. She bet Leechscar had some super cool way of telling where the traps were, or the perfect intuition to avoid them.
The barncats definitely aren't missing clanmates? Aw. Her heart sunk for a moment. She'd hoped, for a second, that Falconbeak might be waiting there. Rookpaw approached her, and grinned! She wasn't sure she'd ever seen Rookpaw grin, so that must be big for her. "Hey Rook!!" She gave her sister a headbutt to the shoulder. Then, Bitchfawn spoke again. "I'm glad too! Super super glad!" She chirped, spinning in little circles. How great it was, that they all got to travel together. Shrikepaw wans't sure how much she wanted it to be easy. She kind of wanted to try out the battle tactics Crowtooth had taught her. But, she didn't want her friends to get hurt. Hm. "Mama says we have to stay with big brother Leechscar, but you should stay with us too! For fun!" As much as she liked Leechscar, Birchfaen seemed a lot less... Hm, what's the word? Not scary, she wasn't scared of Leechscar at all. Not serious either, because Birchfawn didn't seem unserious. Oh she couldn't even remember now!
