~ TWISTEDPAW OF WINDCLAN ~

AFAB | SHE/HER | APPRENTICE | 18 MOONS | NO PURRKS

Small, skinny, black she-cat with a light gray belly and tail-tip, a mangled tail, a crooked jaw, and one blind eye.

Twistedpaw crouched low, then leaped. She landed neatly in the tree hollow. Her round black paws scuffed against the smooth wooden floor, almost making her slip, but she managed to right herself. She couldn't help a flicker of delighted surprise; especially with her mangled tail, she'd expected to fall short of the leader's den, which lay several tail-lengths above the ground. I did it! Her small size and light frame certainly helped, along with the muscle she'd built from her many moons of training.

The young she-cat's pride quickly dissolved as she slid further into the cool shadows of the den. It was a nice break from the heat. The scent of fresh leaves and soft moss was relaxing. Still, her mind and stomach churned in tandem, thoughts caught up in roiling storm clouds that leapt about like a piece of grass caught in a raging river. Grief, regret, pain, fear - they settled deep in her chest and plagued her mind with restless thoughts.

It had been a long time since she'd spoken with Twilightstar. Twistedpaw was usually comfortable in the WindClan leader's presence. She was friendly and had some kind of connection with the mysterious Ashfeather. However, she couldn't help but feel a little... anxious. Like Twilightstar was judging her. I'm old for an apprentice. I accidentally trespassed on RiverClan territory. And... Her throat tightened. Wolffang died for me. Twistedpaw had been the one to break the news. The patrol had found his body, and his death had been reported at the Gathering. But what about Rosebriar? Did the others know about her?

So many thoughts, so many questions, spun through the apprentice's head. But she couldn't just stand here. She had to act.

Twistedpaw bowed before the Moorland Queen. Her crooked jaw dangled, and the bulging light gray tip of her tail twitched, a beacon in the shadows. "Twilightstar. I... I hope I'm not bothering you." She forced herself to look up, her gray-blue eye meeting the leader's emerald-green one. "I... wanted to talk to you about some things. If that's okay?"

Her training. Wolffang. Rosebriar. Ashfeather. Brightpaw. So many names, so much pain and confusion. Twistedpaw couldn't help eyeing Twilightstar's comfortable nest. Normally, she liked to stroke soft things when she was worried. It calmed her. However, she wouldn't dare encroach on Twilightstar's privacy like that. So, she resorted to rubbing one paw against the smooth maplewood floor. Not the best substitute, but it was something.

WindClan Re: WindClan Leader's Den

FADINGDAWN

Fadingdawn slipped into Twilightstar’s den with a polite dip of her head to the WindClan Leader.

“Twilightstar, I came to report that Cardinalpaw’s training is going well. He’s shaping up to make a great hunter,” The white and pale-ginger tabby explained with a wave of her plumy tail, green eyes bright. “He kept messing up on his leap, so I made him practice until he got it right. I’ve told him to rest, now, and that I’d bring prey to him.”

Nice try, lack of motivation! There's no escaping more Owlkit posts! The cinnamon mottled feline bundled into Twilightstar's den as she had once before, too big paws causing her a problem. SNEEZE! with a loud noise she tumbled to her bottom, hind legs splayed out. With a soft chirrup she lifted her muzzle with the flower she had found- no thorns this time- and although it was now very dirty, The Tumbleweed Transformer was quite concerned about her dear Bigcat after a dead cat and grownup talk. So with a sober huff Owlkit proudly presented the scarred leader with her gift. A dandelion that looked like it'd been sitting in a dead rabbits mouth for three days. But it was the thought that counted, and Owlkit hadn't really tried too hard to keep it neat. "Bigcat!" She chirped, dropping the gift. "Gotchu a gift! Cause you 'er sad durin th' grownup conva- con- con... conversation!" HA! TAKE THAT HARD WORD! Owlkit puffed up her short tail proudly, then plodded up to Bigcay and attempted to wrap her forepaws around her friends neck, muzzle buried in Twilightstar's chest fur. Voice muffled, she would then mumble; "There ther', Twi'star." She'd say, giving wherever her forepaw resided on the molly a pat-pat. "I' help you." because of course, only the brave and helpful and awesome and fierce Owlkit could help her! Duh!

As Twilightstar spoke, the disappointment on her face and in her voice evident, Sunburst knew he’d really messed up. When she said that he was a potential danger, he was about to say something, but then Twilightstar mentioned that he killed this young cat. Immediately his expression changed to shock, and his eyes filled with regret at what he’d done. "I ki-" He couldn’t even finish, lowering his head in sadness and regret, he whispered "Great StarClan, what have I done?!"

Sunburst lowered his head as Twilightstar continued to speak, everything she said was true and he knew it, he’d made a big mess. When she’d finished, for a moment he remained silent, trying to comprehend everything. "I…" He didn't know what to say, he’d done an incredibly mouse-brained thing and maybe he did put WindClan at risk by doing it. "I'm truly sorry for this, I did something really stupid and reckless." He said, "I did warn her, I told her I wouldn't hesitate to do whatever I needed to to protect our borders, I told her to leave but she didn’t listen, she didn’t listen and she insulted me, and that’s when I…" Saying what he did was still hard, he felt incredibly guilty, not just for endangering WindClan, but for taking a young cat’s life, he wondered if StarClan would ever forgive him for that, in fact he wondered if he could ever forgive himself.

"I was going to report this, but as you said I have…weird sudden blackouts. I didn't think it was real when I woke up! I thought it was all a dream…and if it was all a dream, I didn't want to waste your time. I still didn't remember everything, the details came back to me gradually, and I went back there to see if it was real, if she was still alive or not…I knew it really happened when I seen the blood on the tree, but I thought she had escaped and survived…" Raising his head a little bit, he continued to try to explain, although he knew Twilightstar probably saw him as a danger now. "I know I shouldn't have left her in our territory regardless, it was a stupid thing to do and I accept that, I will learn from my mistakes, I promise. You'll never have any trouble from me again, but…if you don't want me around anymore so that I can't endanger WindClan again…I understand." He felt even more sadness at the thought of being unwanted by his clan, a tear forming in one of his eyes as he finished speaking.

"If you give me another chance, I swear by StarClan this will never happen again. I could never bring myself to attack my clanmates, even when I do lose my temper, I can't even imagine that thought, I won't be a danger." He wiped the tear away with his paw. "But…if you can't forgive me for this…just say the word and I'll be gone."

'Oh Sunburst, you've messed up big time. How can any cat ever forgive you for what you’ve done?!' He told himself, lowering his head again knowing now he'd probably be kicked out, deservedly so.

@Moonraven

This could prove to be a real problem that she was sure she wanted to deal with. Sunburst was genuinely shaken at the killing of the young cat. He hadn't known he had done it. That might be worse than doing it knowingly. Twilightstar did not like the sudden blackout excuse, it's not like she could call him a liar, but as far as she was aware this wasn't a common occurrence with him or any cat.

Sighing, Twilightstar weighed the pros and cons of this new situation. "You're getting demoted for the next moon and a half." She replied after a long thought. "During your demotion, you will have all the same restrictions as the apprentices, and not allowed outside of camp without supervision. Honestly, I don't know if I can keep you as a warrior with these blackout issues. You need to speak to Lightingstorm. If she can't figure out what's going on with you, then I'm not certain I can trust you within the clan." Twilightstar meowed seriously.

"I can't depend on you with these unknown faint spells. If Lightningstorm can't deduce the cause by the time your demotion is up. You will be retiring early to the elder's den or exiled. " This went beyond losing a sense, a limb, or even memories. Warriors live a dangerous life, if he went down in combat he could not only get himself killed but his clanmates as well.
[Sunburst's demotion will be up on August 19, however, due to his blackouts Twilightstar may retire him early after the demotion if a diagnosis and solution aren't found]

"I've had heart issues sense I was young... but heart skips a beat... like literally skips a beat, I don't know what it is. But it's getting worse with age. I haven't felt myself in moons. Physically and mentally." Watertail admitted. "Orangepaw died... I don't know how but it had to have been suicide! I found him near a rabbit nest, no scent but his own and..... he didn't have a mark on him but he's dead....." Watertail meowed, his eyes distressed, eyes filled with pain as he moved his paw upwards to steady it from trembling. Watertail's not split in half ear twitched gently. Causing a flair of pain in the warriors eyes, though he didn't move from his spot."What... Lightningstorm said wha....what?" Watertail wondered, trying to rack his brain.

(For context of his condition, Systematized amnesia is a loss of memories related to a specific category or individual. Which is what he has and in this case it's reaccuring only in the aspect of names and faces of cats. It goes away and comes back and is life long caused after major head trauma. But in Watertail's case he developed it slowly from a previous trauma and when he banged his head during the battle it kinda "set it off".

he's also just an old cat and has really bad arthritis <3 Hope this clears up and confusion or makes it a bit easier to understand )

So the more she listened the worse the story got and the more troubled she grew. "I'm getting many contradicting things here." Twilightstar decided to stop trying to understand what had happened with Orangepaw, the tom had passed. She was going to accept that.

"You're telling me that you have bad bones, and heart problems on top of that, but Lightningstorm told me physically you are healthy and fit enough to continue serving as a warrior." She told the distressed tom. At this point, she was dragging this out to get to the bottom of it. Someone was lying to her here and she wasn't having it.

"If you haven't felt well for moons, you should have spoken to Lightingstorm sooner. As for your amnesia, as strange as it is, I do not see it as a reason to send you off to the elders. But, if you speak to Lightingstorm and she agrees that you are no longer fit to continue your warrior duties, I'll allow you to retire."
[So thank you for explaining, that helps a ton! But the story isn't adding up well for Twilight. As far as Twi's aware, Lightningstorm has only told Twi that aside from the amnesia, Watertail is fine to continue serving as a warrior, so he'll need to get Lightingstorm's approval before he can retire.]

A cheeky grin pulling at Lightningstorm's whiskers as the leader mentioned wanting to speak to her, she couldn't help the skipped heartbeats that ensued. She had been admittedly dreading talking too much to the leader. She'd managed, of course. Especially during their little debacle of whether she should go to the raid or not. The leader won that one out, what with the calico not wanting to out herself too much, and with plenty of trained healers already on the field it was really little more than stubbornness and pride in her own ability that made her so obtusely insist on coming along. But enough time had passed. She'd managed to learn the names. Or relearn them, she supposed. To make herself more at home in this place. It certainly felt like home, in any case. Perhaps not as many friends as she would like. Seemingly no family. But... she had a place to rest her head and the cats were nice enough. There was little to complain about.

There was just... one thing, apparently. She might have mostly had everyone fooled. Unable to see past her facade. Crowtooth had proved to be too smart for her. She believed there were others - few and far in between - that sensed it as well. The change she had gone through. The memories she'd lost. None had been quite so open, however, as Twilightstar was now.

"Aw, fox dung," the Abyssinian mix groaned, her shoulders slumping as she tossed her head backwards in exasperation. "And here I thought I'd been so good at hiding it, too."

Slowly, the herbalist let her head drop back down, allowing it to follow her shoulders in the defeated slump, one eye opened as she studied the lilac warrior before her. While the green eyed leader regarded her with some curiosity, she did not seem... angry. Annoyed. Or even disappointed. If Lightningstorm was the type to blindly assume without having all the facts - which she loathed - she would almost believe Twilightstar was... used to stuff like this happening by now. There was just... no surprise. Not even mild exasperation. And here the pale medicine cat had thought she might be in danger of being kicked out of the clan if she was found out. An unfounded paranoia, yes. But one that had come about from her instant shock at finding herself surrounded by strangers in a place that felt so familiar yet so distant all at once. It seemed her fear had been in vain, however... or so she hoped. One would assume the leader would not be entertaining her if she was about to be kicked out beyond the borders, after all.

"Guess I shouldn't have expected much less from WindClan's leader, though. Can't very well lead cats if you don't know 'em. Funnily enough, other than you only Crowtooth has noticed any change. Oh! But I'm bloody well rambling at this point, ain't I? Did come here for a reason... Or two. Maybe even three," she mewed, the grin returning to her face, a bit of levity before she went on with her reports.

"To start off, I know it's been a bit. Since the RiverClan raid, I mean. Most of the patients are all well and good after I patched them up, but one of them seems to be a bit of an oddball that I can't quite figure out. His name's Watertail. He got proper banged up in the fight. Looked like a wolverine had confused him for one of those soft bones the twoleg dogs sometimes chew on. Managed to patch him right up, 'course. Well... most of him, in any case. He was acting quite strange. A curious case of amnesia. I chalked it up to shock, if I'm going to be honest with you. Seemed to be able to remember his name as well as the name of the cat he fought. Seemed incapable of remembering anyone other than that. Including his son.

A bit... strange, really. That he would remember the name of a complete stranger but not the name of a family member. I know I'm not one to speak. What with my own affliction. But this seems different. I would take a guess at a concussion, but I treated concussions during that mass influx of patients, and this was not it. He walked right. Seemed perfectly at home with the exception of his lapse in memory concerning his clanmates. There's a quality to concussions. A confusion that accompanies it that is wildly different to amnesia. I wouldn't rule out that he did suffer a concussion and somehow walked it off on the way back, but none of his injuries would indicate a severe enough blow for a concussion to begin with."

The medicine cat took a pause, tail swaying lazily by her side as she considered her next few words. He was a bit of a mystery to her. An unsolved puzzle that frustrated her. To all intents and purposes, he should have been fine after a while. Other than shock causing him to block memories of his clanmates, she couldn't think of a single other reason for him to suffer the loss he had. It had not improved, either. His mental state. While externally he had most certainly healed, Lightningstorm felt as if she was missing... something. She simply didn't have enough information to know what that something is.

"I've kept him in observation, of course. Ever since. He doesn't really seem to be getting much better on the memory aspect, but physically I would say he is proper healed. Wouldn't really think amnesia is a reason to demote him or anything, but then, that might be bias talking here," the herbalist finished, a teasing glint in her eye.

There was more to report. More to say. But might as well let the leader get a word in. Stars knew she'd gotten so used to talking to the little beetle in her den without response she could go on for days without ever giving the other cat a chance to speak back to her. Well... Maybe that wasn't fair. She was certain they could get at least a small groan in whenever she had to pause for a breath.

@Moonraven [Twilightstar]

Twilightstar smiled broadly at Lightingstorm's cursing and exasperation. She wasn't laughing at the she-cat, but she couldn't help but find it amusing that she had thought that she had hidden her dilemma. Honestly, she might have gone unnoticed a while longer if Firestorm hadn't said anything. Twilightstar had quite a bit on her mind, so carrying on as Lightningstorm had she might have slipped unnoticed for a time.

As the medicine cat slumped down seemingly waiting for some sort of something, Twilightstar twitched her tail tip. "I'm not getting rid of you because you have amnesia. You'd be surprised how many cats have come up to me saying they've lost their memory and yet were still able to continue serving WindClan." It was nothing new to her. She was glad to see Lightningstorm perk up quickly and dipped into her reasoning for being here.

Watertail. Twilightstar had already gotten a brief report on him by Leechscar. If he was healing fine she doubted Lightningstorm would be here chatting with her right now. Everything told her sounded more than reasonable, except for the part about not remembering his son. "So in your opinion, he shouldn't need to retire due to his lapse in memory. Leechscar informed me that he recalled his son back at RiverClan's camp, but lost memory of him as soon as he was checked over by you." It wasn't a question more of an observation from the leader.

"Odd, but all I need to know is that you deem him fit to continue serving as a warrior."

The WindClan leader was resting on her side, front paws splayed out in front of her where her chin rested. Her tail twitched stiffly behind her as started at the wooden walls that made up her den. She was lost in thought. Sometimes she couldn't help but wonder if she was cursed or something of that. Every single deputy she's had has died, outside of Brindlejaw and Brightsky, every cat who's held the rank beneath her has joined the stars.

It was a disturbing thought that weighted down her heart like stone. It's gotten to the point that Twilightstar wasn't looking forward to picking out the next deputy, if she could she'd avoid it all together. Each ones deaths seems worst than the last. Twilightstar knew she was only thinking like that becaue of Wolffang, but could one blame her after all the loss.

Her full ear twitched irrdicataly as she noticed the she-cat at the mouth of her den. Twistedpaw. She gave the apprentice the sad smile while shaking the gloom from mind. She'd get like that once in a while, depressed and beaten down, but Twilightstar never stayed that way for long. Her will wouldn't allow it.

"You're no bother, Twistedpaw." Twilightstar trilled while lifting her head from her paws. "I could use a talk, what is it that you need?" Twilightstar asked, arching her back as she stood up and then sat down in a more regal postion befitting of one her age.

Watertail gave a gentle sigh. Nodding Watertail meowed, "I suppose I can share my worries to her and see." He concluded respectfully, dipping his head. Watertail stood slowly, giving a gentle grunt as he flicked his tail, eyes drooping he walked out of the den with a final dip if his head. Watertail headed to the medicine den.

Ok Crowtooth v stupid dumb leaders den, round 3! He'd lost the first round badly and won the second by sheer force of irritation at Flowerpaw who was being dragged before Twilightstar at the time. He still had irritation anew at Flowerpaw, so maybe that'd help him win again so lets do this you stupid dumb den!

Get a good distance to run up, leap up, climb up, and youre in. Thats the plan. Run up, leap up, climb up and youre in. Run up, leap up, climb up and youre in. Easy.

The tom had his plan and so, a short bolt from the leaders den to gain momentum, he gave it a shot.

Run up, leap- WAIT NO TRIPPING ROCK!

....... Twilightstar, probably startled by sound and feeling of a roughly 18 pound idiot slamming into the tree she lived in would then hear the soft pained whine of said idiot now sprawled at the base of the tree. At least he seemed to be pulling himself together, sitting up and gently rubbing the new bump with a wince, when a head eventually poked out to check what'd happened.

Tree 2, Crowtooth 1.

"Heya Twi, sorry 'bout that yer den is evil an' conspirin' against me. Im here ta give some patrol reports, its nothin' too serious but just stuff ya should know."
Still, it went without saying it was important enough to report so was still something.

~ TWISTEDPAW OF WINDCLAN ~

AFAB | SHE/HER | APPRENTICE | 18 MOONS | NO PURRKS

Small, skinny, black she-cat with a light gray belly and tail-tip, a mangled tail, a crooked jaw, and one blind eye.

Twilightstar looked so sad. At first, Twistedpaw thought she was relaxing. The way she was sprawled across her mossy nest suggested someone who was content. However, when the lilac-gray she-cat turned to face her, the grief and exhaustion carved on her face were as clear as day. Even her reassuring smile leaked with a hidden burden. Twistedpaw watched silently as Twilightstar readjusted herself and became the steadfast leader she'd known her whole life. She felt comforted knowing she hadn't intruded. However, her thoughts kept swirling, making it impossible to fully vanquish the rock in her stomach.

Twilightstar's sadness and exhaustion wouldn't leave her mind. She's been through a lot, Twistedpaw thought with a pang of... not pity, but empathy. She's led WindClan for so long. How many of her warriors had fallen? How many friends and comrades had she lost? What about her family? There was a lot she didn't know about Twilightstar, but it was clear she'd seen a lot of suffering. Even more than me. The thought was almost unbearable. Twilightstar had gone through a lot. She hadn't just witnessed pain - she'd experienced it. Twistedpaw had heard the horrible tales of how Dawnstar had tortured her and all the deputies she'd lost. And yet she stayed strong no matter what. Led her Clan. Kept a level head.

Newfound respect flooded through Twistedpaw, but also sadness. I've had so many cats to look after me. Who's looking after her?

She knew she probably shouldn't do this. Twilightstar was the leader. Twistedpaw was nowhere near her in rank. She shouldn't overstep. But she found herself wanting to somehow make Twilightstar feel better.

So, Twistedpaw briefly put aside everything she wanted to talk about, formal and personal matters alike, and stepped forward, moving to rub against Twilightstar and give her shoulder a couple licks. She tried not to feel insecure about the bony bits of her tail potentially scraping against the leader's side.

"You're an amazing leader," she meowed. "The best ever. You're... you're really strong and brave, and I admire you so much."

Oh, StarClan. She'd probably said too much. Twistedpaw's heart began pounding harder, and her pelt felt hot. She should just shut up, shouldn't she, before she embarrassed herself. But... something kept her going.

"I... I know you've been through a lot. You're very strong, but you look so sad and tired sometimes. I wish I could make you feel better. Is there anything I can do?"

All of the topics Twistedpaw wanted to talk about danced on her tongue. But she couldn't bring herself to speak. Not yet. Her thoughts were all scattered, her anxiety was high, and she didn't feel like this was the right time to continue talking. What if she'd upset Twilightstar? Said something wrong? Offended her? But... but her desire to help somehow briefly outweighed her own problems. And, perhaps, tied into them.

Sunpaw

18 Moons | He/Him | No purrks

WindClan apprentice (demoted)

'Oh what’ve you done?!' Sunburst had never felt guilt like this before, it was a horrible feeling. Twilightstar's long pause gave him plenty of time to think. If she did tell him to leave, where would he go? Could he ever forgive himself for this? He felt another tear forming just before he heard Twilightstar's decision. Demotion? That was…a lot better than he deserved, or expected for that matter. Sunpaw raised his head slightly as Twilightstar continued. He had a moon and a half to get this figured out and sorted. He hoped by then he would have answers, not just so he could return to being a warrior, but also because it was really unusual for him to just lose consciousness like that, it had never happened before and he wanted to know what was wrong with him.

"T-thank you…" He just about managed to say, wiping the tear away with his paw. "I hope I can at least find out what’s wrong with me, that's the first time it’s ever happened…" As soon as he was dismissed, Sunpaw would go to Lightningstorm's den and see if the medicine cat could figure out whatever this was.

| Lightningstorm |
20 Moons - WindClan Medicine Cat
Flock Together [Tier 3] - Active | Mind Reader - Active | Dreamwalker - Inactive

With the fear of being considered useless and left without a home clear out of her mind, Lightningstorm found talking to the clan leader far easier than she had thought it would. She knew she rambled. Tried to get all the details out and be as thorough as possible. The short furred she-cat preferred assuming cats would understand what she was talking about and let her know if not. No point talking down to someone perfectly capable of holding a full conversation with her, after all, and Twilightstar had proven herself more than. The response she got back from the leader more than reinforced her preference for paying attention to the small things. To the things that might be otherwise brushed away. Because... what this Leechscar tom had stated - the one with the eternal scowl on his face if she was remembering right... a fury, perhaps - was all... wrong? At least with her preliminary assessment of his condition.

"Wait... Let me get this right, love. You say he remembered his son back in RiverClan territory? This after the raid? That makes no damn bloody sense, now does it? I had assumed his memory loss was due to shock. There was simply nothing about him indicating that there had been a concussion, but then... my assumption it was shock was more so an educated guess considering the lack of evidence to contribute his sudden amnesia to anything more tangible."

A huff of frustration escaped the medic as she sat, lapis hues lost in thought. The fact remained that the tom had been able to make it back to camp perfectly fine after the raid. No help whatsoever. Now that she thought about it, his conversation with her when he'd just returned had seemed... fine? But then, she didn't know. She couldn't remember having ever spoken to him before. It wasn't until his son showed up that his personality seemed to change. The primary reason why she had attributed the entire episode to shock. His swiftly changing moods could be very well attributed to shock from the battle, and at that point rest was imperative for her patient. His mental well being had been above her need to sate her curiosity on his sudden snapping at a cat who had approached with nothing but concern. To now know that it was possible his memory had been lost in a moment's notice? Was this then a recurring incident in which he remembered and forgot events at random intervals? Was it triggered by something specific? As much as she assumed Twilightstar might hate to hear it, Lightningstorm needed more data before she gave her a verdict on the tom's capabilities to resume his work as a warrior.

"Hmm. I might need to observe more before I can give you a conclusive response. Or... better yet. Have another warrior tail them. Accompany them constantly. Someone that he is familiar with would be preferred. Someone who would notice any kind of... change with ease. And defend themselves if he gets out of paw. From what you've told me, I'm not proper sure I'll be able to properly test how fit he is for clan life by just keeping him cooped up in a nest."

Lightningstorm hated this. The feeling of uncertainty. Of realizing she might not have enough knowledge to fully decode what was happening with the tom. She hadn't seen something like this before. She could feel it like instinct. This was not something she had been taught how to deal with. Similar cases? Only in so far as they were both dealing with memory loss, but nothing to this odd come and go rhythm. If it really was too bad... Watertail might not be trusted even in the elders' den. He could forget his clanmates at any moment. His surroundings. And judging by his initial reaction back when he had forgotten his son, he had a tendency to get aggressive. How long before he hurt himself or someone else? But then... she could be overreacting. This just have been a passing thing. She just needed more time to assess him.

"He's not the only cat that has been causing trouble in my den, either, come to think of it. There's a warrior... Flower... heart? From the way she spoke to me, she wasn't acquainted with me, as she introduced herself by name. Right before she expressed her interest in the medicine cat apprentice's position," she mewed, raising a hind paw to scratch a particularly nasty itch on the back of her ear before continuing. "When I let her know I wasn't looking for an apprentice - especially one I wasn't well familiar with - and suggested she head off to the clearing and find a patrol to help out if she wanted to be of use to the clan, she insisted. It wasn't the insistence that got to me, though... It was the lies. The claims that she knew all about herbs and their different uses. There was something about the way she said it... It wasn't the truth. I certainly haven't trained her, otherwise she would know me well enough without having to give me her bloody name. So she was willing to lie through her teeth just to get the position.

What if I'd believed her? What then? Left her with some patient that I thought I could trust her with only to have them dead? It's not her who would pay the ultimate price for that lie. It would be a clanmate. She's proven... more affable since her demotion, going out on patrols and not offering any trouble for the patrol leader, but I still thought it worth bringing up... If she's willing to lie about that, I dunno what else she might be willing to lie about."

It had rubbed her wrong. To fabricate some story just to what? Raise in ranks? To gain a job that was meant to put others before yourself? It made her sick. That said, the talk about patrols reminded her of another problem cat... One she would have to mention before she got to the only potentially good news of the entire report. Stars above. These past few moons had been busy.

"Which reminds me, 'fore I forget. Batshriek. What's up with that cat? Asked 'er to lead a bloody patrol and the glare I got back made it seem like she might just have been considering shredding my ears for even suggesting the damn thing while simultaneously faint. I get being a lazy bloody arse, but that felt too extreme to just be a case of wanting to go faffing about. Is she alright? New to the clan and don't have enough friends, perhaps?" the herbalist inquired, tilting her head to the side with earnest curiosity.

There was no intent to gossip. That was never Lightningstorm's end goal. Gossip too often ended with half formed facts and slanders that were based on nothing but conjecture. But if this was the usual standing for this cat... was she alright? Clan life was not for every cat, and this one had seemed to be having an internal struggle at the mere thought of being approached. To the point that she failed to even leave her patrol, having to be dismissed by the medicine cat. It felt relevant enough to bring up to the leader. A cat like that could be a liability not just to the clan as a whole... but to themselves. Perhaps a talk was in order. Some way to help her help herself... even if it meant looking outside the lands that bound the clans to them.

@Moonraven

Why?! It like he couldn't come in like a normal cat?! Twilightstar jolted out of her nest with her fur bristled with surprise and tail fluffed out as she felt a small vibration travel through wood flooring. She hastily headed to the open of her den and peered down at the cause of the commotion.

"Of course it's you." She meowed, deadpan expression on her face. Crowtooth had no leaps it wasn't even that high! "Honestly, Crowtooth I've met kits with better coordination then you. My den is fine. It's not my den's fault you don't know how to leap. You've gotten in before fine." The bone-dry sarcasm might be a little mean but as he had nearly scared her halfway to StarClan he wouldn't be finding any sympathy from her.

Her ears twitched frantically as he spoke about a report. Twilightstar pushed off the edge of her den and landed neatly among the ferns and roots below. Fallownose never made patrol reports unless there were problems. There seemed to be a lot of those this moon. But first, Twilightstar's front paw lashed out aiming to cuff the tom over the head with each word. "Stop smack jumping smack in smack my smack den smack if smack you smack can't reach it!" The last three sounded more like thwacks. She was sure her paw hurt more than his head as the leader began licking her forepaw a moment later.

"You listen worse than Leechscar, I swear. You're going to land wrong or hurt yourself one of these days, I will make it rule you're not allowed in my den if this continues." He had a working voice he could just call her out.

"Now what is it you're here for?"
She asked with a faint smile.

Ah, it looked like she had placed that mask on quickly enough. Her fluffy tail tip spasmed behind her as the apprentice suddenly leaned into her space in a hug, the paw's tongue rasped over her shoulder blades. She stiffened at first but relaxed seconds later. If it wasn't Leechscar it was rare being the one being comforted. Not because cats didn't want to or try to, Twilightstar never let them.

She had let cats in before, let them worm their way into her heart only to lose them. It hurt so much worse then, relying on others, believing they'd always be there for you only to have to bury them moons later or wonder where they were or why they were doing when she no longer saw them around the camp. It destroyed just a little more with each goodbye she had to say, and she couldn't keep doing that and serve the clan to the best of her abilities.

Even when she bled and broke, she kept her chin raised high. Forever the wise and steadfast leader she was born to be. She needs to be strong, but the pity of others puts all her defenses at risk of crumbling down, like now. Twilightstar appreciated the gesture more than Twistedpaw would ever know, but she needed to chase away those hopes before they could take root.

It was rare she ever got praised for doing what she was supposed to be doing. It is not like she needed it, but it was nice to hear nonetheless. Twilightstar leaned to nuzzle her cheek against the molly's head gently. A warmer smile on her face that actually reached her eyes.

"Oh, you've done the world already." She trilled sweetly. "But if you want to help, living a happy fulfilling life for as long as you can would be the best gift you could give me." That's all she really wanted from her clan. Twilightstar was resigned to the fact that she couldn't keep them safe and happy not without destroying everything that made them warriors. Their lifestyle is not a soft one or easy one...

"Now besides consoling me, Twistedpaw, is there something you need me for?" She pulled away and offered the apprentice a curious tilt of her head.

@Moonraven [Twilightstar]

Okay, well Twilightstar was glad she wasn't the only one at a total loss on what was going on with Watertail. But she'd admit that it was far worse when said medicine cat had no clue what was going on either. Unless Leechscar lied to her, but that made as much sense as flying hedgehogs. Her son and she may not see eye to eye on a lot of things, but he was faithful and honest to almost a fault. There was no motivation to stir up trouble with Watertail of all cats. Could he have reported wrong? That seemed unlikely given that it was Leechscar. She had named her Furys for a reason; they were the best WindClan had to offer. Still, maybe she should talk to him again just to be certain.

"With his memory as it is, I'm not sure who'd be best to keep an eye on him." She responds to the suggestion of having a cat follow him. Naturally one of her furies would be best but she had so few at the moment and didn't really want to waste one of them making them watch over Watertail day and night. She could tell Mosspaw as the warrior was his mentor, but she did like the idea of relying on an apprentice from what Lightingstorm was saying it sounded like Watertail could be a danger to others around him.

The more she thought about it the less ideal it became to keep Watertail in the clan. If his head trauma was bad enough that he was forgetting cats at random moments... this went beyond the usual amnesia. Someone could get hurt and it was sounding less and less like the clans were equipped to take care of this matter. It might be best to send him out of the clan altogether.

"I'll inform the furies to keep an eye on him and see if anyone of thinks their up for the task of monitoring him. I wouldn't say any of them are all that close to him though. I can have them look into those who are closer to Watertail and spread the word to watch him. Do you think I should reassign his apprentice Mosspaw? If he's having trouble recalling his flesh and blood, I'd assume the same would go for his apprentice." She felt her fur heat up with frustration and took a second to nip at an itch near her scarred shoulder.

"If you can't figure out what's wrong with him. I will need to send him away. If the clan can't care for his needs perhaps the softer life of a kittypet might suit him better." Twolegs were always stealing feral cats, if Watertail could no longer serve the clan but was also not trusted to remember any of them, then twolegs were his best bet. Twilightstar had to send away cats she's loved dearly before because of them they threatened the clan. She couldn't have unstable and unreliable cats amongst her ranks sowing trouble.

Thinking of that Flowerpaw's name came up. Wonderful. Her scowl grew larger after everyone word that left Lightingstorm's mouth. Lying! Twilightstar detests it. She'd happily toss a cat out on their ass for lying. It goes against everything a warrior stood for within their clan. It was one thing to make up a white lie, or something with a warrior or siblings, but to blanketly lie to a high rank like a medicine cat and to gain a promotion.

"I've had trouble with her recently. She was attacking clanmates, being disrespectful, and leaving a terrible impression on the kits. But now she'd been lying and asking for a promotion." Twilightstar hissed with disgust. That would need to be dealt with swiftly after this discussion. The WindClan leader wasn't having it.

Batshriek? What was wrong with Batshriek? These past few moons it seemed like WindClan's had several cats acting up. Usually the same recurring troublemakers, but still far more than average. As much as she'd like to comment about the tom being potentially just moody if Lightingstorm was making a point in telling the leader that meant it was most likely more than that.

"I can't say that he's new as for his friends, I don't think he has many." She'd like to compare him to Leechscar and Batglare who were two of the grumpiest loners in WindClan, but it wasn't like Lightingstorm was saying anything about either of them. "You're making me think this is more than the typical grouchy cat. What's got you so worried about him?" Twilightstar would have to add him to the list of cats to seek out and speak to.

“Twilightstar, I came to report that Cardinalpaw’s training is going well. I’ve told him to rest, now, and that I’d bring prey to him.”

Twiightstar's green eye gleamed as the dappled she-cat stepped into her den. She twitched her whiskers in a light greeting and perked her ears to listen. It seemed like Fadingdawn was just here to report how training was going with her apprentice. These were rare reports and a nice break from the usual troubles that were brought to her.

"Wonderful, it sounds like you two are getting along well." Twilightstar purred in response. "Is hunting all you've covered so far?"

Duh!

Oh! Twilightstar startled upright as the kit came tumbling into her den. Owlkit was like a mixture of Crowtooth and Leechscar in that regard. Crowtooth was often tumbling when trying to get into her den and Leechscar was often so quiet when he came in that he constantly startled her when he spoke. Owlkit was about as graceful as Crowtooth and as startling as Leechscar. Sighing soft she really needed to consider finding a new den if this was going to be a frequent thing.

"Owlkit!" The leader tried to muster the same enthusiasm as the kit gave her when she got to her paws again. The plant she was carrying in her maw looked like very wilted and like it had been run over by a monster a few times.

"Aw, how sweet! Thank you Owlkit, I'm feeling much better now." Twilightstar laughed as she was coddled by the kitten. She had been feeling very blue as of late, but it was hard to remain in that state all the time when she had cats like Owlkit around. She just had to laugh and smile when they were around to spread their sunshine.
