As Dawnstar called her name again - which she had done 4 times before - Maplepaw could feel her jaw clench.
Being left in the dust was nothing new to the apprentice. Her mother had begun the long line of deserters, when she was just a kit - and, so many moons later, it still stung as badly as the first time. Her yellow eyes pierced the ground as she couldn't help but wonder if there was something so wrong with her that made it this easy to leave her behind.
Redfeather's first words, despite their sweet consistency, grated against her ears. The constant revolving of mentors did nothing but sour her demeanor even more for the next one; just the greeting made Maplepaw want to lash out at the other molly. Instead, she kept her mouth shut tightly, giving a feeble nod as a greeting towards the older cat. Her voice would have melted into the growing chorus of her clanmates, anyway.
...Speaking of clanmates, what were they all scrabbling about, anyway? She finally tuned into Dawnstar's words - it seemed like they were debating about that one cat the leader had renamed a few meetings ago, Maggotpaw. She was pretty indifferent to any punishment that was to come to the cat. What she had done was pretty monstrous, though that wasn't exactly new for the clan. If anything, she was being punished for the tarnishing of Shadowclan's image.
Redfeather's quip was even more irritating than her greeting before. "What do you suppose we do with her, then?" Maplepaw's voice wasn't aggressive, but there was an edge to it; If the warrior was going to chastise the rest of the clan, she sure as hell better have another idea.
Spiderwebpaw’s energy would sure take some getting used to. She was taken aback by how hyper and strange he was. I really should spend more time around the nursery if a kit like this can slip by me! Despite his strangeness he was growing on her. She was excited to help him hone all that energy into something that could help the clan.
“Of course I mean it. I’m your mentor now so it’s my responsibility to teach you.” Had he really thought she was joking? Probably not but one couldn’t be too sure. She wanted him to know she would be trying her best too.
“No it won’t be real hunting, but I would have had to teach you these moves before anyways. No time lost!” She was glad her promise had cheered him up. Training should never be put on pause. It was too important.
“Okay! And when I really get to hunt, I can! This is gonna be so fun!!”
Spiderwebpaw sat down to attempt to listen to the rest of the meeting. Ooh, Maggotkitty is in even bigger trouble?? Anyone can order her around?? That’s kinda harsh!! Poor Maggotkitty… He thought, though, he’d never met Maggotkitty, so maybe she deserved it?? No. No one deserved to be treated like a maggot… did they??
Spiderwebpaw didn’t know anymore… was ShadowClan best Clan?? Was ShadowClan worst Clan?? Dawnkitty had brought him one step closer to being a Bigkitty!! But… Dawnkitty had also wanted some cats to get hurt??
Who was good and who was bad?? Spiderwebpaw was very confused…
…but then he thought of hunting, and all those silly billy thoughts drifted away like cobwebs, and he smiled once more. “When can we start??”

The redish warrior felt a bit bad for Maggotpaw. Such a harsh punishment. She was sure they would learn their lesson. She just hoped they could make it through.
“We can start right after this meeting so sit still and listen up.” Her voice was even not angry. She wanted him to learn how important meetings were and to be respectful of his leader’s words. Especially Dawnstar’s…she didn’t want him to get into any trouble.

Redfeather
With her Clanmates' words buzzing around her like annoying gnats, it was a miracle that Redfeather held her composure together. Not even a single eye roll or show of fangs. It felt odd, but at least the ShadowClan warrior knew it wouldn't draw any unwanted attention from Dawnstar to her. Or Shadestorm, who seemed to be trying hard to prove something as deputy. It was curious to Redfeather as to how the two ShadowClan crowns would react to the current ongoing squabble happening between Sunsnarl, Vixenpaw, and Nightpaw.
A smirk unfurled along her face as green eyes lifted to Dawnstar once more. She was annoyed, irritation sparking from her pelt like zaps of electricity. The punishment of being put to work fired off several inner thoughts within Redfeather as she pondered how that might become of use to her. Menial tasks of course, nothing that would involve her extending too much trust to the mouse-brained kit-warrior. She could think of a few games also to get the maggot involved back into Clan life, which in turn made her claws flex in the ground.
The notice of twolegs was nothing new, and if anything piqued Redfeather's interest. Fun and games were to be had this leaf-bare, it seemed, if those lumbering creatures were traversing the dark ShadowClan forest. But just as she was about to dive into the inner workings of her mind, a voice sounded next to her. An edge to the words, one that almost made her pin her ears back in annoyance. Green eyes shot to her apprentices face, not bothering to hide the disgust that swirled in them. She said nothing, simply watching Maplepaw with a cold, calculating stare.
Finally, the same sinister smile curled across Redfeather's face. "The ideas I have for crowfood are far too vile for the likes of a scrawny apprentice," she laughed, shaking her head. There was an odd tone to her voice, something akin to insanity, but it was hidden under layers of perfected concealment. "...Maybe I'll save one or two of them for you." There was no expansion on what she meant, and Redfeather instead rose to her paws now that the meeting seemed to be nearing it's end. She parted her jaws in a yawn as her tail flicked behind her in boredom. "It's a pity your former mentors are no longer around. Is that because of your inability to become a decent cat worthy of being a warrior? Or perhaps your sour attitude lashed out like claws? Whatever it was, it will change in due time. You'll learn to use your claws with me or you won't have any claws to use at all." Another eerie look flashed towards Maplepaw, Redfeather curling her sharp talons into the ground. She quite enjoyed the mind games conjured up specifically for cats. It had been a pleasure executing them on that squirrel at the border, and just because her new target was a Clanmate would not excuse them from it.

Lips curled, Dawnstar cast an icy glare at the cats as they left, unable to make out Nightpaw's dark pelt. She'd punish him later or tell one of her cats to fetch him. Instead of keeping the other in suspense, Dawnstar's intensity settled as looked to her kit and Vixenpaw. "Ravenblaze, I need you to tell me more about what you know regarding the twolegs and these... sticks they have. After I'm done dealing with this." Sometimes she forgot that Ravenblaze wasn't born in ShadowClan so had outsider knowledge even if it was very little. Whatever they could offer the better.
"Vixenpaw, you've been doing good work as of late, better than some of the miserable excuses ShadowClan has for warriors. Good work deserves a reward." Dawnstar gave Sunsnarl a pointed look with a sharp scowl on her maw. "Sunsnarl, you disappoint me. When I say I don't want to hear something, I don't want to hear it. So either you're purposely trying to piss me off or you can't follow simple directions, which is it?" Dawnstar questioned, lifting one huge forepaw from the ground and slowly sliding out unnaturally large claws. Dawnstar had said not to speak a word about killing Maggotpaw, Sunsnarl failed as well as Nightpaw. Good deeds get rewards, stupidity is needed to get punished. Dawnstar was getting the feeling that she was being too soft on ShadowClan. Let this serve as a reminder

"I'm sorry Dawnstar, I was just simply suggesting to not just straight up kill her, since that would be too nice, which is what I thought you were at, which is why I suggested a slow, painful, death, like Snakebite said starvation. I didn't know you planned to use her and keep her around. And I didn't feel like I should listen to an apprentice, I apologize for my actions though." Sunsnarl mewed coolly, with a dip of his head. He wasn't fazed by her claws

Vixenpaw waited silently while Dawnstar talked to Ravenblaze and side-eyed the warrior beside her. He didn't look happy to have been called out, but that's what you get when you're being a lizard-brain. The apprentice's attention was quickly brought back to the matter on paw when the leader turned her attention to Vixenpaw and Sunsnarl and began to speak to them.
The molly let out a soft breath she hadn't realized she had been holding due to the tense atmosphere when Dawnstar said she was to be rewarded and quickly dipped her head in gratitude. "Thank you, Dawnstar," Vixenpaw replied as a warm feeling rushed through her pelt at the praise from the leader. Honestly, that would be enough of a reward for her. She had been recognized by ShadowClan's leader for doing something good which meant she was at slightly less of risk of being shredded.
The brown tabby ignored Sunsnarl's blubbering excuses and kept her attention focused on Dawnstar. Whatever punishment the leader chose for the warrior would be well deserved. First he went directly against their leader's orders and then proceeded to make half-assed excuses to escape his punishment instead of simply owning up to it. Some days Vixenpaw wasn't sure how Dawnstar managed to put up with half the cats in the Clan, but she was leader for a reason.

Ravenblaze's ears were still slightly ringing after what had happened when they took Silentpaw training. "I was taking my apprentice out in the territory, and a twoleg fired at us with one of those sticks. The twoleg was alone, and we weren't hurt, but it was definitely aiming to kill us." "Twolegs use those sticks to hunt. They're too slow to catch prey on their own, so they use them and traps to do the work for them. The silverstones kill you if it reaches a major organ or if the wound gets infected, which is very likely if Bounceberry can't get it out and had to go digging around in the hole.
Seriously, I deeply respect you and you're an amazing fighter, but if you get one of those in your brain or heart, you're dead, multiple lives or not."
Ravenblaze knew these things were nothing to mess with and didn't want anyone to get hurt.

Maplepaw's eyes scanned over Redfeather in slight disbelief as the molly continued on a... tangent? rambling? She had no idea. What in Starclan's name was she even talking about? Disbelief quickly turned to displeasure as the warrior decided to question her value. The tortoiseshell's pelt prickled with displeasure.
"Talk about my attitude. You talk to every apprentice like this?" She deflected, desperately trying to shield any hurt she felt from Redfeather's prodding with snark. So what if her mentors kept leaving? It didn't mean it was her fault. Half of the warriors in this clan were useless, anyway; two of her mentors never even spared her a glance. "You don't get to talk about how worthy I am of being a warrior if you're going to act all floaty."
Way to rub her pelt the wrong way. On top of losing another mentor, Maplepaw was stuck with this mouse-brain, souring her mood even further. She was ready to put her apprenticeship to rest already; it had already become embarrassing about 5 moons ago.
