Rainglow sat in the clearing, eyes fixed on a small pebble that sat at his paws. It had a beautiful pattern... but he knew that he was the only one that must think that. Nobody else seemed to have the same passion for rocks as the grey tom. With a sigh, he raised his gaze to search the sky for anything of interest. But before he could even decide on what shape this strange cloud was, he heard his brother's voice calling across the clearing. Rainglow perked his ears, and padded over to Slatestripe, paws stinging against the cold he had endured to search for rocks a few minutes ago. "Y-yeah?"
Slatestripe hoped his conversation with Rainglow would go as well as his discussion with Mintpaw, but he doubted it. Things - in his mind - had been rather strained between him and his brother since their mother’s funeral. It bothered Slatestripe a lot, but he wasn’t great at talking with his brother.
“Hey, Rainglow,” he greeted him. He shuffled his paws in the dirt, hesitating. Finally deciding that he just needed to be blunt and get to the point, he blurted out, “Marigoldleap is expecting my kits. We, ah, had a fling. We aren’t going to be mates, but I am going to be a part of their lives.”

The massive silver tabby slinked out of the warriors den at the yowl at one of their clanmates. They stalked over hazel eyes looking at Reedwhisker intensely, "Why should I accept your challenge hm? Do you just want power or do you have an actual reason to push me from shield? I won't just take a challenge without a reason." Fogcloud asked with a small smirk and head tilt, hoping to rile up the warrior, Fogcloud would most likely take the challenge but oh she would not take it so easy.
If there was no good reason given Fogcloud would simply ignore the request, the silver tabby didn't want any others to think they could just get the position of shield to just have power. She would make sure they would be shamed if they ever had a thought like that. Though they also felt something in their gut brewing at the thought of loosing but they pushed it down as they awaited an answer.
Reedwhisker
It didn't take Fogcloud very long to come out of the warrior's den and question the challenge that was thrown toward the tabby. The brown warrior never thought of an actual reason, but she knew that deep down, she had one. I'm definitely not in it for the power. Sitting down, Reedwhisker gazed into the warrior's eyes and answered with a calm voice.
"I have an actual reason. Pikestar and I had a conversation approximately two moons ago, and he asked if I can help keep the peace between our Clanmates. I do not feel like being a warrior is helping me do as requested, I think being a Shield will."
That was a good enough reason, right? It had to be, it was the only one she had! Pikestar was being beaten up by his duties and himself, so it was only fair to do as requested and help the tom like he had asked. If Reedwhisker never fulfilled her promise, what would she be? Not a trustworthy cat, for sure. I have to fulfill my promise to Pikestar, just as I had for Nightpaw."What do you say, Fogcloud?"

Blinking at the young RiverClan apprentice, the dark-furred oriental tomcat hadn’t expected such a lack of speech from her, He couldn’t help but tilt his head to the side too, once Mintpaw did, not really knowing how else to properly react to the situation. Social anxiety be damned, but Pikestar wanted to do his best to get their genuine offer across. Relief honestly washed over him as she rose to her paws and dipped her head to him, silently making it known that she would be fine with now joining him on his hunting venture. “Good, good.” Pikestar remarked quietly, turning his head towards the camp’s entrance, “Follow me.” With that being said, the tall clan leader headed off through the clearing with Mintpaw hopefully close behind, brushing through the skinny reeds that made up the entrance that would lead the two of them outside, and into RiverClan’s hunting grounds. Hopefully today would bring a successful hunt. His bushy tail idly swished behind him as he walked.

She shakily nods. She never realized how cold it was. Quite surprised at how close her friend has gotten, but still thankful for the warmth it brought her.
