Mousepaw sat bored in the clearing ugh, it's so boring here... sea thought I wanna go and help fight..! ...but I also don't wanna get punished... hmmmm... sea hummed, lost in thought

The 1 moon old Alpinekit was walking around the clearing. She spotted a trail of worker ants leading up to the prey pile. She stopped and watched the trail for a bit before looking around to make sure no cat was watching. Alpinekit lapped up some ants and swallowed them. She quietly thought, "Yum! I like eating these....ants!"

Mousepaw saw the kit having fun, it looked like she was enjoying herself. maybe i can help, even if I'm not at the battle. i can help entertain the kits! sea thought to themself.

Mallowpaw padded out of the apprentice den, her breath fogging up in the chilly air. The sky was a calm blue, contrasting with the emotions inside Mallowpaw. The knowledge that a battle was raging inside RiverClan's camp, that her clanmates were bleeding and dying. She was glad she hadn't been forced to fight, and that made her feel guilty. But she condensed that emotion into a tiny ball in the pit of her stomach.

Another thing was haunting her: Sunglow's death. She was her clanmate. Why did Bumblestar have to kill her? And the other cat; not even her status as a queen saved her from threats and claws.

She was so distracted she bumped into a cat. "Sorry," Mallowpaw apologised. She was glad they were an apprentice and not a warrior. That would be embarrassing.

Elkkit frowned. That didn't seem like a very nice thing to do, but hey, it was still big cat problems. Maybe he just didn't understand.

"They aren't ThunderClan," he said quietly. "Do we have to care?"

"No," she gazed at the entrance, lowering her eyelids. "But they're still cats. They live in a different place, and have different preferences of food. They have a different name too, but they're still cats; just like you and me, large, and small."

She curled her tail around her paws.

"I wouldn't be surprised if I have to go after I have my kits." Gathering her courage to continue speaking, Moontail at last gazed down at the little tom, her eyes motherly, and her tone soft, and smooth. "If I do have to leave, would you be friends with my kits? ...Would you look after them for me?"
