Plumpaw peered into the den, a ball of snow packed into his paw and clutched close to his chest. Yellow eyes glinted in the dim light, flitting across the room in search of one specific feline. Plumpaw wasn’t too sure what his mentor looked like and could only guess by name alone that he must have sharp claws or something. Not a lot to go on, really…

Quite a few warriors lingered in the den, most of them chatting and grooming one another and some of them sleeping. A pale, ginger tabby caught Plum’s eye. He was huddled in the far corner, the scent of herbs and disease wafting in the air around him. Plumpaw scrunched his nose at the bitter smell, but ignored it and pressed on.

“Hey, which one of you is Sharpclaw!” Plumpaw eyed each of the warriors, already making guesses as to who it could be.

“What is it?” A reply! Plumpaw whirled to face the voice, brows furrowing as his gaze was brought back to the corner of the den. The striped tom flicked an ear in his direction, but otherwise made no effort to get up, only stared at him with tired amber eyes.

Oh… so the sickly one was his mentor… a flicker of guilt almost gave Plumpaw second thoughts on what he was about to do… almost.

Plumpaw shuffled forward, cradling the snowball closer and tighter before hurling it at Sharpclaw with surprising force. All it got out of the older tom was a flinch followed by a deep growl. Then he shifted, pulling himself to his paws with strained effort and turning to face Plumpaw. He cradled his right leg close to his chest, and held a burning glare in his eyes, but said nothing.

“Ha! That’s what you get for missing out on my apprenticeship!” His glare softened, but still more silence. “Not much of a talker, huh?”

This time Sharpclaw sighed and slumped back into his nest. "Nope... Guessin' your my new apprentice..."

"Oh, yeah? Good guess!" Plumpaw said, earning himself another glare. Sharpclaw continued.

"Well, I'm sure your just itchin' to start training, so here's your first task; Bring some prey to the elders. An' when your done with that you can clean up their nests'..."

Plumpaw's eyes shot up, a whine quickly forming on his lips. "What! That's not training, that's punishment! I didn't even do anything bad yet," An obvious lie, though in his head it– 'it' being the snowball he mercilessly chucked at his ill mentor– was all in good fun! Who doesn't like being hit with an icy, cold snowball?

“Taking care of your elders is hardly a punishment, but keep testin’ my patience an’ I’ll give ya a real one… matter of fact, you should pick the ticks off ‘em while you’re at it,” Plumpaw pursed his lips, pouting like a little kit who'd been told no for the first time. Ugh, why did Bumblestar have to pair him up with such a boring mentor? He didn't want to spend his whole day cleaning and looking after elders. He had more important things to do! But honestly, picking ticks sounded a lot worse...

“Uh... ya know what, feeding and cleaning are fine actually,” Quickly, Plumpaw scampered out of the den before his response earned him another punishment.

“That wasn’t a suggestion! It was–” But Plumpaw was already gone, zipping out of the den before Sharpclaw could even finish his sentence. "Nevermind..."

Tunnels under the camp?? Redhawk knew stories about cats that used to live underground - stories she had been told as a kit - but did they actually run underneath the camp?? As she inspected the other side of the den walls, so far coming up with nothing. Good. She kept her ears perked as Bumblestar continued to explain, frowning as she mentioned that Thrushstar had just vanished. He had made so many promises, and only now was Red realizing what a fool she had been to believe in any of them.

"Cats w-weren't happy t-to have a leader who actually g-got work done?" There's a hint of amusement to her tone as she shakes her head, leaning close to a part of the corner of the den. "Probably didn't realize w-what it was, you know, a-after so many s-seasons of failed l-leaders." she jokes to Bumble, looking over her shoulder at the she-cat with a small grin. For cats who had cried pretty much for as long as Red could remember for stable leadership, it was ironic that the second they had it they didn't like it.

"Could you b-bring me some sticks? There's n-no hole but this p-part could use some r-reinforcement." Chewing on more of their conversation while she waited, Red added, "And w-whats up with S-ShadowClan lately? They ssss-seem more uppity t-than usual" Probably not having a camp to barge into was getting to them. Red's whiskers twitch in amusement at her own though as she looked back to the den wall she was inspecting.

Bumblestar shrugged a shoulder as she patted a fern against a small gap in the back of the den. "Beats me. Some cats just don't live by logic. Their problem, not mine. 'Till they make it mine, I guess. They've quieted down for the most part now at least." There were a few stragglers here and there, she was sure, but they wouldn't be that hard to deal with.

At Redhawk's request, she grabbed a mouthful of sticks and brought them over. "Hell if I know." Her tone was bitter. "Gettin' sick of it, though. ShadowClan's arrogance 'n RiverClan's... whatever they think they are, I don't have the words for it - 'm about ready to just set fire to both camps 'n be done with it all. It's exhausting."

She exhaled quietly and shook out a forepaw, brow pinched. "It's fine. Whatever, we'll handle it. Just ticks me off knowin' they still think they're better than us."

Tired. Ghostglow was oh so tired. A late night solo patrol to ensure their camp wasn't the victim of an ambush does that to a gal! The warrior was thankful when she saw the warrior's den was mostly empty - save for Mudhound. The molly thought highly of the the younger warrior... as long as they didn't get too rowdy while she napped she didn't care what they did. A tired smile was offered their way as she flopped down in her nest and shut her eyes.

Wait. What was that.

Yellow eyes peeled themselves open and slid slowly over to Mudhound. They seemde less bubbly than usual, like they were upset. Almost like they wanted to hide from the world. And what was that in their mouth? Wait... no... Surely that wasn't a....

"Oh goodness!" She shot up from her nest, padding over to Mudhound with large unblinking eyes. "Honey is that thing stuck to you?" Where did they even find one that big? Why did they stick their tongue to it? How long had the poor thing been hiding away in their den?!

So many questions swam around in her head before Ghostglow did something she was not proud of. Something she would apologize for for the rest of her life.

She giggled at Mudhound. It held no malice, more fondness than anything. It was just so... silly! So perfectly them! A paw shot up to cover her deceptive mouth, but it was too late. They no doubt saw.

"I would be happy to help with your-" Another giggle. "-situation. I'm sure I could get if off ice and easy."

For a moment Mudhound thought their shame might be hidden. That Ghostglow, who was honestly a rather nice cat, wouldnt see and the tripod could figure this out on their own and just deal with the headache and it'd be FINE it'd be ALRIGHT theyre FINE they totally didnt wanna run screaming through the territory to find Roseraven who they trusted to not laugh at them.

There was no mercy in this cruel world however, not now not ever.

Maybe there was a sliver of hope as Ghostglow asked a rather kindly phrased question and not a small pathetic nod from the muted cat but alas. A giggle emerged and the fate of humiliation was sealed.

The warriors eyes watered and they fought back them falling, burrowing into their bedding trying, and failing, to hide but forced to be exposed as the giant icicle forced their head into the open. Ghostglow would never think they were cool now! (Not that many did.) Friendship was ruined before it began because surely she wouldnt want to be friend with a cat who got stuck on a icicle! Even if she was kind enough to help free Mudhound.

The tripod whimpered around the ice, muffled by it as their folded ears drooped.

First laughing and now puns?! Puns Mudhound couldnt even participate in! CRUELTY!

The glare that was now there was more sulky than anything but they nodded again, icicle moving with them, unsure on how they'd fix this anyway.

The tom crept into the den, and curled up into a moss nest. He closed his eyes, and slowly started to drift off.
