EGRETKIT
she/her . 1 moon . dark brown and lilac tabby with dappling with cream markings and blue eyes [ no purrks ]
the nursery is as loud as always today. rowdy kits run around the spacious den, playing games from tag to mossball. some playfully brawl, while a few lay with queens, either nursing or pestering for stories. the ruckus is befitting of the warm greenleaf weather – the nursery surely being more quiet in the colder moons.
egretkit, however, is currently flopped on her back in the middle of the mossy nursery floor. she stretches her limbs, tiny paws making grasping motions as if she's trying to reach for the ceiling of the den. a big smile is splayed on her maw, blue eyes wide and bright. she wonders if she could somehow get up there – the ceiling, that is – somehow, and crawl on there. just like she sees those weird crawly thingies scooting up the nursery wall! she erupts into a fit of giggles at the thought before rolling onto her side.
hmm..who could help her get up there? maybe crowkit or gracklekit! they are her brothers, after all, and siblings always help each other! one problem, though..even if crowkit and gracklekit stood on each other, an she climbs to the very top, she's still not sure if she could reach all the way up there. she needs someone tall! a big cat! annnndd, she knows exactly who! she quickly stands up, though a bit wobbly (curse these baby legs!), looking around until she spots who she's looking for: papa! luckily, he always seems to be in the nursery for the most part.
"papa! papa!!" egretkit squeals, racing over (in reality, it's more like tottering) to her father. she plops down, trying to land on the tom's paws if he allows. "i wanna go up there!" she announces, still wearing a toothy grin as she gestures to the nursery's ceiling. "'n' crawl around like the crawly thingies do! I dunno if crowy 'n' gracks are big enough to get me allll the way up there - but, i think you can, papa!"
Leopardsong
Huh, she might have to take him to see Lightningstorm or ask if the medicine cat had the time to visit the nursery. Or maybe she was just being overly fussy, Ashkit had finished his meal and immediately fell asleep after answering her question so he must not be in all that much pain.
Her Cottonball had passed out not long after uttering the sweetest word she had ever heard. Leopardsong doesn't think she's ever been acknowledged by Whisperinghive, Owlpaw, or Littlepaw as a mother or anything similar. Owlpaw had passed not long after becoming an apprentice and Littlepaw had vanished. Whisperinghive... she hadn't seen much of that one.
The point is that she felt this strange giddy feeling after being acknowledged as someone's mother. It was so nice and certainly something she could get used to. Leopardsong coiled her tail tighter around the kits and slowly got into a more comfortable position before shutting her eyes and purring softly.

The new father had just returned from bringing Bravebird prey, letting the molly sit in a quiet corner and eat without the kits bothering her. Anxiety was a constant in Hawkfur's chest, seeing Bravebird decline. It was a struggle to keep his spirits up, but for his kits, he'd smile all day long.
Speaking of kits, Egretkit toddled up to him and started squeaking at him in her teeny kit voice. Hawkfur blossomed into a bright smile, allowing his daughter to sit on his big fluffy paws. She wanted to get up on the cieling?? Hawkfur felt his eye twitch. Oh dear, that was... dangerous. He glanced behind him, seeing that Bravebird had fallen asleep, turned the other way. Well... she wouldn't have to know, would she? Hawkfur would make sure nothing happened to Egretkit. The red tom purred, leaning down to rasp his tongue over her brown and lilac dappled pelt of Egretkit. "Maybe don't crawl around on the ceiling, my love. But I can lift you up so you can look." She was tiny enough to be able to sit on his back without toppling him over.
Sneezekit's face scrunched up with concentration as they sat, hunched in the shadows by the nursery entrance. They had come up with a great new game, but you had to be really Quiet and Stealthy when you played, which was kinda hard for Sneezekit. But they knew, deep down inside, that it'd be totally worth it in the end. 'Cause it was a Genius plan and guaranteed to bring endless entertainment! It was called: Sit and Wait Until Someone Walks By and Then Jump Out and Scare Them. Based on the title, one can easily imagine what such a game might entail.
Anyways, none of that mattered, 'cause someone was walking near the entrance. Right then in that moment! So Sneezekit crouched down and Leaped at their victim with great Speed and yelled, "BOO!" real loud. Delighted giggles erupted from Sneezekit's mouth and they began to bounce up and down, regardless of the other kit's reaction. "Well? How was that? Were you scaaaaared?" Although, really, Sneezekit didn't even need to ask. 'Cause of course he was scared! Who wouldn't be? Sneezekit was Extremely scary when they really tried, duh.
Oh, a lot was happening. Perhaps too much for such a little lady like herself to be able to process. With each movement, each shift in their environment, each new scent–she'd whine. A quiet, feeble little sound, quite opposite of the incessant wailing that she had been doing before she and her siblings had been plucked up from where they had spawned.
Her body shifted, wriggling about helplessly as she pressed her teeny snoot against the fluff of whoever took it upon himself to snag them. She sniffed at his fur, nudging her little nose past the thick fluff and against his neck instead. There she inhaled deeply, only to let out a high pitched wail as she began to squirm endlessly once again.
There were two things on her mind. Two things she needed. One that all babies needed to grow, and one that most babies did not. This helpful fellow only had one of those things, but she was being jostled around far too much for her to even try to follow that instinct of hers.
With each movement of their mysterious savior-comrade, the more that Seedkit just… Wailed and cried. That is, until she caught the scent of one of the other things that she craved – milk! And to what did she do upon catching such a scent? Cry some more!
Sneezekit was asleep. That was a very ordinary thing, but in their head, it was actually very extraordinary, ‘cause they were having a great dream! It was about... about... Oh, drat, they’d woken up! They hadn’t meant to do that, but they had suddenly gotten a very strange feeling that Something was Different, and boom, their eyes just shot wide open. Lame.
Sneezekit blinked slowly, turning about the nursery. Oh, there was a new cat in there. Actually, it was probably his movement that had woken Sneezekit up! Humph! Who did this cat think he was? That is, who was he, actually? Sneezekit was pretty sure that they had at least seen most WindClan cats by that point. Looks like this one just... slipped through the cracks. Well, Sneezekit was so used to learning new stuff all the time that it wasn’t altogether that weird.
But anyways, Sneezekit was starting to get happier and even almost forgot about being oh so rudely snatched away from their little dreamworld (almost)! ‘Cause meeting new cats was always just the most exciting thing ever, even when it came to boring adults. Sneezekit might just get a new friend out of this whole ordeal! How thrilling!
“Hi!” said Sneezekit, a bright smile forming on their face as they approached the stranger. “I’m Sneezekit! What’s your name? ‘Cause I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before!” Hmm, yes, there was something just ever so slightly off about this new cat. It was weird, like he just Didn’t Belong There. What a strange feeling, right? But that was just a judgment based on appearances. And Sneezekit had heard never to make judgements based on appearances.

Whisperkit gave a grumble of protest as her sibling moved around in their nest, eyes blinking open drearily as they tumble away, clearly talking to someone. Tiny mouth stretching in a yawn, she stumbled out of the nest after Sneezekit, eyes widening in surprise when a cat she didn't recognize was standing in front of them. They kind of smelled like WindClan, but at the same time...didn't? Whisperkit approached wearily, standing close enough to her sibling that their pelts brushed.
The dilute calico was minding her own business, shuffling through nests and making messes with the way she threw the moss and other bedding material. She was on the hunt for treasures, just like when she'd found the feather. She'd been so preoccupied that she barely missed the commotion of Sneezekit and Whisperkit. Their voice drew her out of her digging trance and she turned to face a weird looking cat.
The she-kit padded up close to the duo, tilting her head curiously at the weirdo standing in the den. They didn't smell like they had kits and they didn't really smell... normal? "Who you? Smells weird," Littlekit chimed into the comments.
Look at them. They all came waddling over, little bite-sized snacks on legs. How convenient. Bogtumble let his eye rove over his meal option, not bothering to formulate a response. Was he drooling? He was pretty sure he was drooling. Oh, if this was even possible, he was going to keep coming back here until there weren't any kits left.
The questions they were bombarding him with made him giggle and curl his claws into the floor. A manic expression yanked at the corners of his mouth, revealing jagged, red-tinged teeth. "Hellooooo," he cooed as he lowered himself to the ground so that he was level with all four of them. "Didn't your mothers ever teach you not to talk to strangers?"
Sneezekit was the first to have approached him, and also the only one to introduce themselves. They also looked the tastiest. Bogtumble could feel his tether to the living world beginning to waver; he had to be quick.
He either wasn't fast enough, or it was never possible to begin with. His jaws snapped wide and he snaked forward with intent to sink his canines into the youngster's neck.
Millimeters before his teeth met their mark, Bogtumble evaporated into nothingness, leaving nothing but a frigid chill in the air and a lingering sense of fear.
Sneezekit smiled. It looked like the other kits wanted to play, too! It could be a lot of fun, playing in a big group like that! 'Cept the others didn't really look that excited. Sure, this adult was just a little weird, but you were supposed to get to know other cats before you judged them and stuff! That way, you wouldn't miss out on any cats who were secretly excellent playmates.
Sneezekit's nose wrinkled a little as drool dripped from the adult's mouth. Yuck. But, well, it was rude to make scrunched-up faces at other cats, right? So they made their face real Normal. Yeah, that was the Right Thing to Do! 'Cept that the adult had said kind of a weird thing. Why wouldn't they talk to strangers? Maybe it was 'cause sometimes they could be boring, but you wouldn't know 'til you talked to them, and you might end up getting stuck in a real boring conversation. Yeah, Sneezekit bet that was what he meant.
But oh, now the adult was coming closer, maybe wanting to play with Sneezekit. He was smiling real big, after all. And then he came closer. And closer. Um, too close, actually. Their heart began to beat just a little faster. "Wait--" they piped in a small voice, suddenly feeling just as small as the older cat's form towered over them. Before they could even begin to shift away, the adult opened his maw, quickly closing in on Sneezekit. Was he... Was he trying to BITE Sneezekit??? An alarmed squeak escaped from their maw and they shut their eyes real tight, trying to get as close to the ground as they could and brace themself for the impact of the chomp.
But then, nothing. Sneezekit released a quivering breath, slowly daring to raise their head. The fur on their back was raised up all the way, their tiny paws quivering. The adult was gone without a trace. Had he really just tried to bite the kit? That... that couldn't be true, right? Adults acted weird sometimes, in ways that Sneezekit just didn't understand, but... Why would he want to hurt Sneezekit? Maybe it was all just a dream. A big, stupid dream that made Sneezekit feel weak, even though they were supposed to be strong. How could a cat disappear into thin air like that otherwise?
Turns out, if Bogtumble willed himself hard enough, he could plop himself right smack in the middle of the living world. How he hadn't figured this out earlier, he would NEVER know, and he was kind of kicking himself for it. But it was worth it now. He was on the ground, inside of his Clan's new camp, instead of stuck observing from an untouchable distance.
Maybe he could sink his claws into a snack today, if he was lucky.
The lanky brown tom slipped into the nursery, single good eye scanning the dim den for tidbits to scare and tuck away in the ol' noggin for future reference. He couldn't stifle the excited giggle that slipped out of him. Mmmm, snacks!!
[ open for queens and babies to get almost munched on, bog will disappear in my next post ]
Willowkit yawned, kneading her nest. She jumped up, surprised to see a strange cat in the nursery. "Hullo!" she said. "Who are you exactly?"

Littlekit was a little more suspicious of the weird-smelling cat, but everyone was approaching him so he could be okay? Well, she thought that too soon because as soon as Sneezekit got comfortable, all she saw was a flash of teeth. A squeal escaped her and her paws were thrown over her eyes to avoid watching the scene unfold. She was expecting the worst. Expecting to hear crying, expecting to see Sneezekit half eaten, but then...
Silence.
There were no gory noises or cries. Her paws lifted from her eyes slowly, readjusting to the light of the nursery while she studied Sneezekit for a moment. They were okay! The weirdo was gone too! Her heart still pumped quickly in her chest but she launched herself at her friend, her legs wrapping around them in a protective manner. "I THOUGHT YOU WERE A GONER, SNEEZY!!!!!!"
Her wails stretched across the nursery and probably deafened the other kitten.
