Spiderpaw felt their tail flick her shoulder and, surprisingly, didn't jump. Usually she would, but maybe Seapaw was just too relaxed, or that she had been able to relax a bit beside them. She turned to look at him in time to note the... Less smooth motions she recognized too well from her own nervous nature. They seemed to choke over their own words before an admittance of their own fear about fighting.
The younger apprentice paused, hoping to give Seapaw a moment to collect themself a little before replying. "I wouldn't mind. I... Am pretty scared of swimming... Or, deep water, I think?" Maybe it was the current? Spiderpaw wasn't entirely sure. It was a bit more complicated than just one thing, it seemed. "So, yeah... Let's help each other. If you want, I can give you some tips so that you don't have to go into a lesson without knowing anything sometime?" She offered.

They nodded understandingly. They'd definitely been there, albeit with combat rather than swimming. Deep water... He wondered if something bad had happened, or if she was just scared. Seapaw reckoned, for him, it was a bit of both. He remembered so little of the RiverClan invasion, but they knew they never wanted to experience anything like it again. Strange, how Salamnderpaw had instantly gone the opposite way. But, if you're super strong, you never get hurt - right? If Salamanderpaw managed to never get hurt, he'd be very happy. He'd promised not to go missing, after all, so he hoped she'd be careful, and honour the sentiment back... As if she could control whether she got hurt. They rolled their pebble around under their paw pad as they contemplated it all.
"Tips would be good." They nodded. "I'm... Not sure if I'd have any idea what I'm doing, in a fight. I'd probably just try my hunting pounces on them, or something." Or maybe he could just jump in the river, and annoy the other clans from the water. Annoying seemed better than fighting. And he'd be far happier where he knew claws couldn't scathe him.

Tips would be good? Spiderpaw listened as she took a moment and tried to come up with the best tips she could. She hadn't been in a real fight, but Heroneye had seemed pretty satisfied with her abilities. Still, was she really qualified for this? Hmm...
Seapaw brought up a good starting point. "That wouldn't be a bad idea to start," She mewed quietly, though beginning to find her voice again. "When you pounce, it is like a hunting pounce... but with more power." She explained, hoping it made sense. "Well, more power if you're trying to knock them down or back... Same power if you're trying to land on top of them." She said, trying not to misinform them.
"I didn't wind up doing that much, though," Spiderpaw added. "I went for Heroneye's legs a lot to knock her down, since I'm not really as strong as her." She remembered quite well. "Oh, and swiping at someone's face can distract them." She added quickly. Was that too much at once? Spiderpaw had to hold back from going on an entire block of instruction lining her mind. She knew she was in no place to give the older apprentice an entire lesson, but just remembering the thrill of that spar had her tail tip twitching.

Seapaw
he/they - 12 moons - Go with the flow
They listened intently as they could - so, a hunting pounce wasn't all too wrong. And you can jump at a cat, or on top of them. That might be good with some of those ginormous ShadowClan cats he'd seen at gatherings - he had to suppress a shudder just at the thought of it. Even their leader was huge and terrifying. They wouldn't like to come across any of those cats in a battle. Though, he was getting quite leggy, so he figured he wouldn't be able to jump on top of all too many cats. Oh! And there were distractions. That was good. Distracting an enemy (he hated calling them that) seemed a lot less scary than properly fighting them, claw to claw.
"I never knew there were distraction moves." They tilted their head. The closest thing to battle training they'd encountered was Salamanderpaw's constant play fighting. She was very straight on. They couldn't imagine her using any kind of distraction move. "I 'spose you don't end up knowing many moves at all, without training." They chuckled, resting their head on their paws. "Thanks for the tips, I'll make sure to remember them." Knowing some bits and pieces definitely made the idea of training a lot less scary. Now, they had at least some idea of what they were getting into.
"I can try to give you some tips for swimming, if you want? But I don't know how helpful they'd be" When Seapaw got in the water, it just kind of felt natural to him. It was the only thing that truly made him feel like he was actually in the moment. Not lost in thoughts, not daydreaming, just right there. One with the river. Maybe, like, breathing deeply could be helpful?

Spiderpaw nodded and smiled at Seapaw's comments. "There's a lot more in fighting than just hitting each other." She mewed as she started to groom and drag a paw over her ear. She felt pretty happy that she was able to give the older apprentice some bit of information they didn't know, even if it was just a little... and especially since it had been an observation of her own, not something she was specifically taught. She hoped it really would help them in the future.
She paused a moment at Seapaw's offer. "Yeah... I wouldn't mind some tips. Maybe... something about currents?" She asked. Being pulled by an undertow had been scary, and Fallenspirit hadn't given her much direction on how to deal with them afterward. Knowing how to handle strong currents if she ever wound up in the position again... it seemed like a fairly important thing for her to know.

Interesting... More than just hitting? So it was a whole host of things, or maybe a whole big thing? It seemed complicated. Spiderpaw seemed really knowledgeable in this, which was cool! He liked having lots of friends with different interests. "Huh, that's really cool." His tail twitched happily, as they smiled at her. "Maybe a bit scary, but... Cool."
A pause. Tips about, currents, hmmmm... "Well, for one, swimming against the current isn't a very good idea. You're more likely to get pulled under, I think." They thought about it, remembering their last swimming session. It had been so long now. "If you're getting dragged along, you could use the current to swim to the riverbank - like diagonally." He supposed Oliverat hadn't taught him that exactly, but it was easy for Seapaw to tell just how much easier it was to move with the current than against. The 'paw had almost instinctively let it carry him. "But, I think it's better to avoid strong currents as best you can. I haven't tried swimming in a really strong current before, but I noticed that the water looks more jagged around them. Almost spiky, and bubbly. Noisy, too." His head tilted to the clouds as he thought about it. Maybe Spiderpaw already knew that part? "I'd like to try it though, it seems like it'd be fun, once you get the hang of it."

The very first thing Seapaw had said was Spiderpaw's original mistake. Swimming against the undertow had been exhausting and resulted in only sending her further from Lionsbeach... It did catch her interest, though... The idea of going diagonally against a strong current. Even if there was no bank close by... Perhaps just getting out of the current was the more important part.
"I guess not all strong currents make noise... The ones out at Lionsbeach are quiet." Spiderpaw mused quietly, her head canted slightly as she thought about it. Maybe they would be noisier if they were closer to the surface. "I'll definitely try to avoid them, though, but I appreciate the tip... I would've never thought about swimming diagonally..." The idea was still terrifying, but maybe, if she ever wound up stuck in a strong current again, she would be able to remember this conversation. She tried to commit it to her memory.
Spiderpaw looked at Seapaw with wide eyes as they said that they wanted to try swimming in a strong current. It didn't sound like much fun to her... It sounded like a horrible idea. "I... can't imagine a safe way to get the hang of swimming in strong currents." She mewed, feeling a bit worried that Seapaw would get hurt-or worse-playing in rapids.
