Shadepaw followed the group outside of camp to their destination, frustrated that she had missed a simple direction—find a partner. Anger and disgust at herself prickled her paws. How had it happened? How had it happened? Perhaps she’d been too excited about the prospect of finally learning battle training, but she knew that was no excuse. I’ll just do better next time. She had to. She’d remember this moment.
She listened to the warrior intently, dropping into a crouch and adjusting it as he continued. Claws sheathed, shoulders loose, center your balance. Shadepaw focused her weight into her paws as evenly as she could, although she tensed her muscles too much before remembering ‘shoulders loose’. Think of a hunting crouch, she thought.
An apprentice speaking up caught her attention, and she stared at him in disbelief as he had the nerve to challenge the warrior, even going so far as to suggest they partner up. He was either stupid or extremely self-confident, which didn’t bode well for his character either way. She scoffed. The apprentice would surely get shredded, which would be amusing to watch, but she had a better idea.
“Hey, smartypants,” she called, padding forward. “Why don’t you go up against someone your own size? Maybe you won’t get immediately shredded.” She gave Tigernight a narrowed glance before focusing back on the offending apprentice with her sharp amber eyes. She hadn’t gotten any battle training before, but she assumed the other apprentice hadn’t either, because of how he had suggested going against a trained warrior rather than his peers. If he actually had experience, he’d probably know that that would be a bad idea—although she knew it because she had something many of her clanmates seemed to be lacking: common sense.
“Well? Or are you too cowardly?” Shadepaw added. That would surely provoke him to accept, and if he’s angry, he wouldn’t be thinking clearly. That would be in her favor. She was fairly certain she could handle him… Although she had to remember that this was her first time, too. Don’t get overconfident. The problem was, she didn’t know how good he was, which made it hard to tell if she was or wasn’t. Nevertheless, she had signed up for this, she would deal with it.

▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █"ah so she is a mother!" Deerclaw purred "well I thank your mother a lot for allowing me to join" he scratches his ear after a moment "ah my mama? she is no longer with us, hunting in starclan, she believed in it so I shall as well" he began to lick his chest, he wondered what they were even supposed to do...oh right training "mama says the clans would welcome me if I were to ever follow the stars" he hums, looking up for a moment before looking at weepingpaw "you have a good mama, know that" he smiled "now lets finish this little training session and I can tell you many more stories of my life before the clan" he meows with a little smile. █ ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁
Weepingpaw stares pensively at the tom upon hearing that he lost his mama. That sounded terrible. He knew one day he'd lost his parents too, but the idea of thinking about it made him want to cry, so he stopped. Instead, the apprentice latched onto the mention of stars and how good his Momster was. He sits up a little straight, trying to look all dignified as best he could while grinning stupidly.
"Yup, know everyone should Momster is best." He agreed rapidly. He didn't hear the rest of what Deerclaw was saying. The other cat, whose name he still wasn't sure of, was talking about stances and partners. His big eyes return to his apparent partner as they leave camp. He has questions about the tom's old home, but he saves them for later since they were working on something.
After watching the warrior demonstrate this stance, Weepingpaw mimed without any trouble. It seemed like the same crouch one used for hunting. Paws evenly spaced apart, drop down low, but not too low, can't touch the ground with the belly, and tail still. He was a little lopsided, putting too much weight on one side, but all in all, he'd done a decent job of playing the copy game.
Oh, but then he had to copy his partner. Weepingpaw took one look at Deerclaw and burst out laughing. He was too low, or Weepingpaw thought he was, but regardless, they were supposed to play the copy game, so down he dropped his haunches low like he was getting ready to pounce and lower his head so that his chin was nearly touching the grass. He was far from a perfect imitation of Deerclaw, but he was pretty close. Weepingpaw knew this wasn't right, but the instructions were to copy the partner, so he did.
@Rowan [I beg you to fix this or Weeping's going to start doing this on the regular]

▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █he gently chuckles when he realizes weepingpaw copying him, ah he must look just like that. a shame his battle stance wont work in the clan setting "I believe I might be the one doing this wrong" he murmured as he tried his best to fix his battle stance, lifting his head up and firmly setting his paws apart some to take on a more arched stance, fur standing up a long his back as if to look bigger. █ ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁
