Of all the cats to challenge her, Quietraven had not been on her mental list. The Deputy watched with a cool expression as the warrior requested a challenge. "I will spar with you if no one else offers, but try reporting patrols on time before I consider you Enforcer material." There was no anger or haughtiness in her voice, because while Mistlewhisker disliked consistently late warriors, she knew that things happened and everyone made mistakes. She would like to see Quietraven as an Enforcer, genuinely. She just hadn't gotten there yet, much like her sister who could be heard bellyaching to Sleepysunrise. "I do agree that one must be ambitious some time. If not today, I would like to spar with you at another time. Prove yourself there, and you will find yourself back on my good side."

How funny, and how peculiar. her cousin seeking to be an enforcer..? Don't make her laugh, she would be crushed in an instant. Hazycry had the emotional maturity of a toddler, she couldn't handle the pressure (funny, seen who was thinking this. The irony eluded her, she was too busy judging to be paying attention to that fact). Besides, Newtbelly was a funny guy... Always so jumpy! Makes her wonder why he even is among the elites, but Miss Grandmama had given him the benefit of the doubt, so maybe so should she. The medic shrugged, the torn skin on her throat pulling at its edges.
She slipped away from atop the medicine cat's den, amused to have seen sister thrive to challenge Rookfire and be shut down so quickly. It brought a little upturn of her maw, and as though their minds were connected, Sleepysunrise was already approaching when Birdecho began looking for her. She greeted her sister with a flick of her tail, eyes trained on her grandmother with silent interest. "A shame about your challenge, sis... I'm sure you would have enjoyed eating dust."
It was a light tease, though her tone was dry from lack of hydration. Swallowing still hurt, a constant reminder that she should change the cobwebs plastered all around her neck and throat. But a sick part of her wanted to feel the sting of infection. Feel what it was like, look her monsters dead in the eyes; did mama ever feel that way too, when she fought her battles?
Interest flickered across her gaze when Miss Grandmama made her announcement, and Sleepysunrise tilted her head as she listened to her sister talk smack about the others - Sleepysunrise probably agreed, too, judging by her amused expression. The slight narrowing of her eyes indicated that she was thinking, and her lip found herself between two teeth before slipping out again. She flicked her tail as she suddenly jumped off the branch, beckoning her sister to follow. She didn't quite watch whether Birdecho would truly, Sleepysunrise expected her to. She approached her grandmother quietly and with a small smile, the interest showing. "Miss Grandmama...! I could do with some practice, if you would allow it."
She glanced over the gathered crowd, showing her intent; Sleepysunrise knew she wasn't skilled enough to take on her grandmother yet, but with all the Enforcers, her grandmother and even Mistlewhisker up to being challenged -- well, where was the fun if she couldn't be challenged too? She glanced back at her sister, expression calm but hiding many a thought. Wouldn't it be fun to rip and tear apart your own flesh and blood? Kindly, of course -- she made a promise to her grandmother, and she didn't intend on breaking it.
But Sleepysunrise could stretch her muscles a little, and it had been so long since she had had a proper spar with her sister. The last time... Her claws flexed into the ground, a glitchy distortion of her young half-sister appearing before her, covering her true face. She had been so young. Perhaps only now did Sleepysunrise realised her sweet, shy little sister had grown out of her shell since, Sleepysunrise had too in that regard. Hah! The Sleepysunrise of before was dead, besides, burned in her mother's fire or drowned in her waters. It didn't matter, she was gone. The young medic was a new cat now, and had been for some time. Maybe her sister was the same.
Rookadder knew how to get in cat's heads. It was their silly ability I guess? The lean, muscular Molly's sharp gaze shifted to Briarsplash, eyes gleaming as if to say sorry for challenging Briarsplash. In all truth she respected the ex-rouge.
She didn't want to challenge the ex-rouge, but being honest, there eas no other Enforcer to be challenged. She would of much rather sparred with Dawnstar. She liked the challenge. The ambitious molly's long tail flicked at an apology for her words. Her gaze shifted to look at mistlewhisker. "I'd like to spar with you or Dawnstar."

WILDKIT
Shadowclan kit | 5 Moons | Long-furred calico tom with yellow eyes
~~~
Whoa. WHOA! What was going on out here? Wildkit gaped at the upcoming event. The fighting hadn't started yet, but there were a BUNCH of warriors that were stepping up to become enforcers. How exciting! He didn't even know how all this really worked. Sure, he had heard a few things about the enforcers, but to actually get to not only attend this challenge, but watch a bunch of warriors fight it out for the open position?
So cool.
The calico sprinted to the apprentice den as fast as he could. "Morningpaw! MORNINGPAW! Your mentor just took up the challenge to become an enforcer!" He called. Who knew if the warrior would get the opportunity to actually fight it, but Morningpaw HAD to know! He needed to be here for this! Who wouldn't want to be here for this? This was the most exciting thing ever! "Dawnstar said anyone who wanted the open spot would fight HER, and Mosstangle accepted the challenge!"
Morningpaw was sleeping. It was peaceful. Nothing interrupted. Until something did. The tabby sprung up at Wildkit's excited yells, tail whipping. When he spotted the calico he blew out a breath. "You're gonna kill me with these scares, Wild. Ya' stalking is too good." The black and dark brown mottled tom shook himself out, before realizing what the kit said. He skidded closer. "WHAT? MOSSTANGLE?? WHERE!" The apprentice ran out, amber eyes glowing, searching searching for his mentor. Then Morningpaw remembered Wildkit, and quickly, a little embarrassed by his outburst, doubled back and brought the kit over. He jumped at his mentor, though didn't actually touch the she-cat. "Mosstangle! Wildkit told me you were going to challenge for the Enforcer position." The tabby gazed at the patched tabby, eyes wide and curling his tail around a certain calico kit.
Eyes widened to Dawnstar's words. Now that was a shock. They had a position to fill though, didn't they? What a perfect way for cats to show their interest. Without claiming they're better than any current enforcers, too - if he wasn't already one, he would've lept at the opportunity. Would these fights be happening in succession? Or all at once? It did bum him out a bit, if Dawnstar wasn't going to be watching - absorbed in her own battle. He'd been dying to prove himself to her properly. He barely knew anything about the Shadow Queen, but he was desperate to gain her approval. Some of it was simply due to her rank, sure. But it merged perfectly into his need to gain everyone's approval - or at least, approval from his seniors, and the cats he deemed strong. It was something he hated to admit, even to himself. After all, was a need for approval not a weakness in itself? He envied cats that did whatever they wanted, without feeling the crushing weight of their clanmate's opinions. He would've preferred to do this against another clan, rather than his own clanmates, but this would do fine enough.
His ear tilted as he noticed someone challenge Briarsplash - ratbrain. What a foolish idea. Mosstangle was getting in on Dawnstar's offer - he'd be happy to see her join the team. He was kind of miffed that Fernsmoke wasn't challenging anyone, but he supposed not every cat wanted to be an enforcer. He couldn't understand that view point, but he respected it.
Stars, there was no time for this. Now was the time to focus. Noises of the crowd began to form a sort of soundscape, and he stopped paying attention to it. Claw were still firmly planted in the ground, as he eyed Hazycry. Then, he was snapped from his thoughts - Bleedingpaw? It were as though the anger clouding his mind had dissipated a little, claws retracted, tenseness released. "Bleedingpaw, thank you." He replied, voice soft as he gave the apprentice a light tail flick. He hadn't expected the bengal's support, at least, not so directly. It was a nice surprise. Then he was gone.
The brief interaction had him tune back in just in time to hear Rookfire's invitation. What?! First Owlthroat, now the commander himself? What was he even trying to say with that? As he listened though, he became less bothered. It was clear that he didn't think Hawkbite wasn't doing well in his rank. It wasn't an insult. Just... A way to make the most out of this open challenge, he supposed. Still, Rookfire as commander? He didn't like the idea. Not out of distaste for Rookfire, he was getting over himself with that, just... They were so similar in age. If Hawkbite were to be replaced, Briarsplash appeared a far more reasonable option. Even Owlthroat. Of course, he had a bias for the latter of the two.
Speaking of... He chuckled a little at Owlthroat's words. "Oh I will," the tortoiseshell grinned, and it did make him wonder, for a second, how many cats had actually seen him smile? Owlthroat for sure, almost certainly his apprentices who he couldn't help but be proud of - oh - oh course, he'd been smiling like a fool at Stemstone's ceremony, hadn't he? There went his mysterious exterior.
Hazycry was quick in responding to Owlthroat. He supposed he couldn't blame her, he'd have less respect for a cat who sat and cowered in response. But, he'd still have more respect for a cat who didn't do it in the first place. So, he rolled his eyes briefly, but didn't say another word.
Birdecho paused in her smack-talk of the various challengers, not really caring that Sleepysunrise only half-paid attention. She was pretty used to that by now anyway. But her sister leaving the root she only just arrived on had Birdecho trailing after her, regardless if she'd been invited or not. Um hello, she wasn't about to sit and watch all this alone! That was lame as hell and Birdecho was far from lame.
As usual, Sleepysunrise stood near Dawnstar--Birdecho rolled her eyes--but her announcement had all of Birdecho's attitude dissipating.
"ME! DIBS! I CALL DIBS!" Birdecho barked, practically vibrating with excitement. "I will certainly enjoy eating dust but I promise I'll share." Birdecho blinked sweetly at her sister. "Imagine you give me a matching one." She pointed with her nose at Sleepysunrise's gnarly throat scar. What would it feel like to have her throat torn open? Would she die? That would be cool, she's never died before. She leaned in close to her sister so only she could hear: "I've been practicing since last time." Would this be the time they finally ripped each other to shreds? Unlikely, since the entire clan was here. But imagine what a spectacle that would be. And Birdecho loved a spectacle.
