Flytail Steps forward from the crowd, blue eyes locked on Dawnstar. He doesn’t wait for an invitation. "Then I’ll take that challenge, Dawnstar." He Keeps her gaze, voice even, no hesitation. "I’ve trained apprentices, filled in gaps when others slacked, and kept patrols moving when no one else would. I don’t ask for recognition. I do it because it needs to be done." Claws press into the dirt, posture firm. "If I need to prove my worth through a fight, then I will. I’ve done the work. Now I’ll show you I can do more than that." Doesn’t blink, doesn’t step back. "Let me earn it…and if I have to challenge my brother so be it" while originally he had planned to challenge newtbelly things weren’t going according to plan so now he had to improvise

Hawkbite had also not thought this through very well, but per usual, Dawnstar had the perfect fix. His ears twitched in her direction, eyes lighting up with interest at her suggestion. "I think that's a wonderful idea, good way to fill that empty spot, too," the Commander commented, searching out Mistlewhisker, curious to see if she'd join in on that sparring opportunity.

A commotion caught his attention, and his gaze shifted to stare intensely at Deerclaw and whatever gathering was around him. Thankfully, it wasn't necessarily Deerclaw causing issues, but an Elder he hadn't personally interacted with before. Hollowhawk was already on it, typical of anyone who would've been raised by him. Hawkbite wasn't really known for holding his trap very well. He'd give his little shadow an affectionate blink. "Sparkfire, if you keep running your mouth, I'll personally escort you back to your nest to pout like a kitten," the Commander growled in a low tone.

One warning. That was all the Elder got.

Next, he'd quickly acknowledge Flytail and Rookadder. Flytail was Owlthroat's brother, so he was also challenging Owlthroat? If Dawnstar wouldn't take him on. Fishbite made his ears perk forward. He wondered if Dawnstar would accept her challenge request, that'd be interesting. He was curious to know what his daughter had learned and retained despite a not-so-great start to things.

Now, this was interesting. Mosstangle slipped from the edges of camp and perked her ears at Hawkbite's announcement. She had been thinking about the enforcer ranks, but had she done enough for Shadowclan yet? Even for her own thoughts, she felt it was not true. Her ears perked at Flytail's acceptance of the challenge. She rarely interacted with him, but he didn't seem like a bad choice. Much the same as her, he said that he stepped in to train many apprentices.

The dark molly almost moved to find a place in the crowd before overhearing a certain elder spitting insults and acting up. She shot Sparkfire a glare. She didn't like outsiders, either, but if Dawnstar had chosen to bring the cat in... Well, she imagined that Rookfire had probably deserved whatever insults came his way. She didn't hate the enforcer... yet... but she didn't particularly like him, either. Hawkbite was perfectly capable of handling the pouting elder, though.

Instead, it lit a different fire under the dark tabby. She looked up at Dawnstar. So many were vying for their leaders' attention. But... Mosstangle couldn't deny the excitement of getting the opportunity to fight Dawnstar, nor her own fire burning to do something for the clan. To be a little more than just that one cat that had been part of the stupid fox pup fight, even if she hadn't been at fault for everything. She wanted to prove that she could do something with herself.

"Dawnstar," Green eyes stayed focused on the shadowclan leader. "I accept the challenge and will fight for a place among the enforcers." The worst Dawnstar would say is no, but at least then Mosstangle could put herself up there. If she hadn't done enough yet... well, this would certainly be motivation to dig her claws in deeper and prove that she was able to serve shadowclan in a higher capacity. "I've been training apprentices to continue where their mentors neglected, and will continue to branch out to the clan as a whole." That was a promise with or without the enforcer rank.

Oh, this had to be one for the records! Ashpaw slipped out of the apprentice den and found his place in the crowd. He wondered what it would be like to become an enforcer? Despite his light interest in it, he had no experience with fighting yet. As cool as it would be... Well, as soon as it was that he would have to fight Dawnstar? He wouldn't beat around the bush. She was scary. He wasn't even sure he could approach her on a good day.

But it was very interesting to watch the warriors flocking to the challenge. The calls to become enforcers. The quick denial to another... Deerclaw, it seemed was his name. Wasn't he an apprentice? Weird name for an apprentice, for sure. He was new, though, as far as he could tell. And even more loud conversations gave away that he had been an outsider.

It made him wonder if there would be more from Deerclaw in the future.

Whoa. WHOA! What was going on out here? Wildkit gaped at the upcoming event. The fighting hadn't started yet, but there were a BUNCH of warriors that were stepping up to become enforcers. How exciting! He didn't even know how all this really worked. Sure, he had heard a few things about the enforcers, but to actually get to not only attend this challenge, but watch a bunch of warriors fight it out for the open position?

So cool.

The calico sprinted to the apprentice den as fast as he could. "Morningpaw! MORNINGPAW! Your mentor just took up the challenge to become an enforcer!" He called. Who knew if the warrior would get the opportunity to actually fight it, but Morningpaw HAD to know! He needed to be here for this! Who wouldn't want to be here for this? This was the most exciting thing ever! "Dawnstar said anyone who wanted the open spot would fight HER, and Mosstangle accepted the challenge!"

Birdecho knew Dawnstar was going to refuse her, but the warrior made a show of groaning loudly. "LAAAAAME." She pouted, but the grin on her face made it clear she wasn't actually upset. She narrowed her amber eyes at Rookfire as she padded over to him, flicking him in the face with her tail. "You're safe today, buddy boy, ooOOOooo..." Snickering to herself Birdecho hopped up onto a gnarled root, settling in to watch the festivities. Grandmother was actually participating... and she couldn't??? MAN the HIPOCRACY! Birdecho sought out Sleepysunrise, beckoning her sister over so they could sit together and gossip about the challenges. Birdecho might not be able to participate--man, why was she weirdly inspired to be more active around the clan now? Did... did Grandmother have a point? Anyway--but she and Sleepysis could definitely talk some smack.

Dear starclan another challenge? Bleedingpaw scoffed internally hearing the deal and agreeing whole heartedly at Mr Pats disdain of the situation, nose crinkling at Hazycry. That one had never impressed him, not for her disability, he wasnt a hypocrite, but for her unfounded ambition. If you wanted to rise then do something rather then just challenge your better and expect it to go better, but what events or training or proactive behavior had she done? Nothing, and now she was vying for Newtbellys spot thinking his quiet nature equaled the same lack she had when he was just simple subtle in the support he did for shadowclan.


Yeah it went without saying Bleedingpaw was supporting the enforcer who'd trained him and earned his respect.



The other challengers were equally poor, Fishbite was a cocky sporadic fool and Hollowhawk an edgelord, both too young to have true experience the enforcers needed. At least Bleedingpaw could admit still he was a child, nowhere near his elders unlike these overconfident fools. And the others? Loudmouth nobodies. Ugh.




Ok maybe Bleedingpaw had woken up on a thorn today and still had a spot of red in his pelt for it. He could be grumpy sometimes, it wasnt a crime! Buuuuuut, not everyone deserved his ire.


Wobbling over to Newtbelly the tom reached out a shaking paw to lightly tap the soon to be fighting enforcer on the shoulder, giving him a respectful nod and a "You have my support Mr Newtbelly. Youre a skilled fighter, some just need reminders. Once they have that it'll be clear you deserve your rank hopefully the yammering will stop, youre here already for a reason already thats proof enough theyre forgetting." Because god was the chatter annoying. Newtbelly had made and kept enforcer for so long for a reason and Dawnstar had chosen him, and young fools with more ambition then sense thought volume and flash would match that? No. Bleedingpaw had been lucky to get as far as he got in the training spar with Newtbelly and he'd gotten thrashed while using all sorts of dirty tricks.


Piece said the golden bengal gave a final nod before turning and wobbling off to join the crowd, looking for Sleepysunrise or Wispypaw. Finding either he'd settle down besides them, lowly musing "How many of these idiots do you think the enforcers will need to shred to prove theyre not at the same level? I say three at least, the first two wont be smart enough for everyone to get the point."

The Deputy lumbered into view, her long legs stretching elegantly over the clearing ground as she crossed to where her mates stood. "Why, this looks fun. Your idea, I assume? We should do this more often." She murmured to Hawkbite just as Dawnstar began barking out changes to the event. Mistlewhisker hummed at the option to join in herself. You know what, she could use the practice. Things had been remarkably peaceful lately. Running her tail along Hawkbite's flank, Mistlewhisker padded over to her Leader. "I will take on some challengers, if they wish. I've wanted a more personal understanding of where our warriors stand." Mistlewhisker cast her one-eyed gaze over the gathered cats, unimpressed.

[BEAR.]

All the commotion stirred Coldpaw, who joined to watch from the edge of the spectators with narrowed eyes. He didn't have much to input beyond the amusement of watching several cats get shot down instantly.

Hopefully this would continue to prove entertaining, and maybe he could pick something up from watching Dawnstar bulldoze the fools challenging her.
