P R O L O G U E

the sound of cats yowling and the feeling of rain falling against badgerfangs pelt startles his out of a trance, his eyes widen as he looks up at the sky, the moon was covered in heavy clouds, showing them as the living that starclan was furious with them, the black and white tom looks at the cats around him, fighting, tearing and killing, the gathering they were having turned into bloodshed "TREECLAN RETREAT!" yowled TreeStar, the brown she-cat covered in blood and scratches, her clan falling back with snarls and hisses, badgerfang whirls around as he hears a swiftclan warrior yowling a battle cry as she attacks his flank, he slashed at her face making her reel back and he headbutts her and makes her topple over.

he blinks a few times as he watches the she-cat scurry off, "SNOWCLAN FALL BACK! THIS BLOOD IS NOT WORTH IT" the snowclan warrior yowls as they also fall back. "Leave nightclan! this fight is over" LeopardStar the swiftclan leader yowls. "NEVER" nightstar growls as he pushes the spotted leader off the high ledge of the mooncave rocks, the leader falls to her death, a sickening crack filling the battlefield.

"SWIFTCLAN RETREAT!" swiftclaw, one of badgerfangs best friends yowl with pain and grief. "this battle is over" Nightstar growls to the deputy and the swiftclan cats leave quickly with their leaders body. "At this time we shall-" before nightstar can finish, he's struck with lightning, his body shuddering and setting ablaze, his yowls are only drowned out by the rain which has grown even more heavy "NIGHTCLAN" badgerfangs own terrified tone rings across the clearing "GO BACK, DIG, WE MUST RETREAT!" he leads the clan back and feels his paws thudding against the wet grass. the nightclan warriors all stream into their camp tunnels, sliding inside and disappearing into their darkness. "cats of nightclan...w-we must recover...that war was not worth the blood." badgerfang meows with a sad sound cracking in his tone "a-as deputy...I will take on the role of leader...but...I will go get my lives tomorrow...until then...our replacement deputy will be fireheart" he meows, looking to the ginger tom who looks surprised "I wont disappoint" fire heart bows his head, blue eyes shining and badgerfangs nods his head with a serious look "this is only the beginning"
