Floodsight ✦ RiverClan Warrior | 28 moons | Mind Reader ; Beefed Up T3 ; empty slot
She'd cleared her throat before padding into the den that was once Stormstar's. A little different, but all around, it was still the same old leader's den. Her dusky blue-gray eyes settled on Owlstar in front of her. It's certainly been a while since Floodsight had last seen her, but Owlstar remained the same warrior she'd always known. Should she say congratulations? No. The long furred warrior felt that might reopen some old wounds that RiverClan has put behind them. Instead, the silver she-cat had started with, "Hope you've...the clan, has been well."
"A coyote had chased me out moons ago... Now that I've returned, I feared those mutts may as well when the days get warmer and prey gets running." Floodsight spoke eloquently, almost in fear for herself and the clan. "There's a chance they've moved on, but it's best to be on the look out in any case."
She'd shuffled her paws, rubbing them against each other, hoping her report would be at least of some concern to the leader as it was for her.
"Warm weather-wise, I've been settling back into the routine of teaching swimming to the little ones, and was wondering if it's not too early to ask for a new apprentice." Though she'd been continuing to teach her previous apprentice, Floodsight won't ask to continue Aspenpaw's training as his mentor. Floodsight was sure his current one had it all covered and afterall, the little one was so close to becoming a warrior that a change in mentor may not reasonable. Knowing that her absence would affect her reputability, the silver warrior thought it was still worth a shot to ask. With determined eyes, Floodsight gazed upon her leader. "I hope you can trust me with training once more."
The tom made his way earlier in the morning, after returning from one of his usual nightly hunts to escape the nightmares that decided to still clutch at his heart even when mentally they have lost all of their fear. His heart never agreed and he often woke up like he was just recovered from some rapids. Regardless, he's been thinking and wanted to check in with Owlstar about some things before moving forward with any of the thoughts. He grabbed some random prey off the pile and waited outside of the threshold, "Mornin' Owlstar." He hoped by his tone that she could tell this wasn't anything dire.
"You're favorite bother has come to talk some ideas out with you." Though recently, he has been lacking on the bothering people game, poor Rowanmane has had to suffer most of Seabreeze's pestering as of late, especially the teasing of getting grey fur and all that stuff. Though the tom would like to not mention the actual grey fur that has started across his shoulders around the scar he received from those damn otters. After receiving a response, and assuming that it was a come in, Seabreeze would enter the den and drop the prey at the leader's paws.
"figured I would grab some breakfast for us to chat over, assuming you haven't ate." Sitting down, the former lionheart finally stopped with all of his yapping and got to the first point of the visiting the leader, his idea of introducing a new sort of curriculum that he thinks would be beneficial and would more than happily figure out how to teach and would teach if necessary, though he would need to discuss specifics with Berryshine first likely. It would be a process but starting it sooner rather than later was key.
"I was on a walk with Sunflowerflare recently, long story short, bonded over shared trauma and it had been thinking about something I've been debating for awhile. Some sort of additional kit- though better likely as an apprentice curriculum, perhaps it could count for the additional lesson option for their graduation. Coping skills and grief management, or something of that sort." He explained the concept in an elevator pitch, or rather a Seabreeze version of one because he's always been a lecturer espiecally when it came to things he thought was necessary for education and youth. They were overlooked often and while not anyone's fault, he just likes making sure there were proper opportunities for kits and apprentices alike.
"While we are doing better as a clan with you, Sunheart, and Berryshine we all know that the lingering effects of our instability still effects cats today, both older generations and younger ones. Not too mention how in general death and loss is a frequent happening in everyone's lives. I just want to prevent cats from going down self-destructive rabbit holes like I did in a healthy way. I can name several cats that can benefit from something like this already." Aspenpaw, though with the return of his old mentor, the apprentice tom has been more active as of late but for awhile he was hardly seeing the fiery anklebiter out of the nest. There was Starrypaw who suffered the lost of her parental figure and sister very close and while she has persevered there was clearly residual trauma..
"Countless cats can benefit from this. Sometimes its just hard to reach out, especially when you've lost so many of your loved ones quickly. If we can foster a community that can assist everyone than I don't see any down sides. I would be willing to put together a sort of 'class' though I'm thinking that it would be good to just have cats that are just there and willing to listen. I was going to discuss this with Berryshine if I got your approval to continue the idea."
With the yap session done, Seabreeze looked to the leader to see if he could read any thoughts or reactions on her face before she even got to replying. It was honestly a project that he has been the most passionate about in a long time. Maybe because it was something so personal and could help so much.

One. There is one left. There used to be three, and now she has one. There's a part of Larkwing's mind that feels a little silly about coming here, she feels like maybe this is being a touch over protective, but she can't help it. She's scared. If something happened because the wrong choice had been made... she doesn't know what she would do. Panic definitely. Kill whoever was responsible most likely.
She clears her throat as she nears the den that she loathes - not this one in particular, but the idea of it.
"Owlstar," Larkwing calls, feeling like her skin is going to crawl away under her fur as she pokes her nose into the den, blinking trepidatiously. "Can I talk to you..? It's... it's something minor." It's not. It's so important to her. But she can't help the way she automatically assumes that anything important to her is important to someone above her.

Wildkit tipped his head in confusion. How come? He asked, leaning forward. He knew about the part where Mistybreeze had carried him home, but why had she left Branch behind? Why did she only bring him up once in a while?

"My pulse is clear, rushing through my ears."
Owlstar blinked kindly at the small kit. She knew their questions were all in good faith and genuine curiosity. Maybe Owlstar simply couldn't relate, her childhood connections were a blur other than the memories she had herself, and only for herself.
She answered curtly, not unkind, but not devoid of logic either. "Outsiders as a whole 'ave proven ta be tricky. Not worth the hassle a dealin' wit'." she slowly pulled away more feathers from her seagull carcass. "Not sayin' yer pop's is automatically a bad cat chap, but that reunion won't be happenin' until I don't 'ave ta jump every outsider I see. They've been gettin' too close n' too comfortable. I cain't take that risk." she wasn't about to dump everything onto a kit. They didn't deserve that. But, she had her reasons.
Dizzybug’s face was suddenly plastered with an excited grin. Owlstar loved their gift! “Found it in Lionsbeach! Quite a find, hm? I think bones are some of the coolest little things. They are, yeah?” he rambled happily. Dizzybug loved bones. And bugs, and funny plants, and- oh, Dizzy just LOVED trinkets. Collecting was the highlight of their day!
Suddenly, they noticed that Owlstar looked.. a bit sad? Well, that just could not do! Sad cats were the WORST!!! BECAUSE THEY WERE SAD!!!
“Y’alright, Owlstar?” he chirped nervously.

She, Her\Leader\51 moons\Riverclan
"My pulse is clear, rushing through my ears."
She had to be honest. His enthusiasm was deathly contagious, like the worst case of greencough except the sickness was pure giddiness. Even if tears did rim her eyes, she was relieved. Starclan had no idea how relieved she was. That somecat, maybe other than Stormstar, had a passion for ripping things apart. It was as unsettling to others as it was fun to her. Owlstar was never exactly one for pretty, but she did like interesting. This was interesting.
She poked an unsheathed claw at the heron, battered maw glinting teeth in a jacked up smile of pure bliss. Even if her eyes were glassy, which was something Dizzybug picked up on. Her gaze flicked back up to him, swallowing harshly. Ah shoot.
She'd rather cats believe she'd gotten over Stormstar's death. That she'd grieved her appropriately, that her transition into leadership wasn't the scariest feeling of dread in her entire life. Because she was so sure. So sure she'd at least be twelve moons older before Stormstar died. But it was merely a few moons. Gone. Sucked back into sinking sand. Without her. She didn't want cats to know she was still uncertain, still wondering if she was making the right calls. Everycat was seemingly content with her. All she could've ever wanted. She didn't have to be extraordinary, she just wanted to fix this.
She wanted to do it right. What if she didn't last? Duck away in shame or fall ill like the others?
"Nah, I'm good chap." she was genuine in her words, or what she could muster. "Just... Y'know. My thoughts caught me. That tight feelin', sucks don't it?" she chuckled. "Like a crabs gotcha by the throat n' ya cain't shake 'em. But aye, after such a find, I owe ya, don't I? A few pelts on me, be worth yer while if ya stay ta chat." a bargain? Oooo, she was so sneaky. But not entirely a bargain. Owlstar had forgotten how much she'd missed a good stress free conversation. She'd forgotten how to gush over her hobby even more. "But shhh. Don't tell nocat, aye?" Owlstar whispered, clearly teasing.
Pikekit plopped his haunches down to sit, amused by the confusions he’d unravelled with his voice. ”Hmmm concerns?” Pikekit supposed that meant he must have to have a reason for his visit here today. ”Well um my concern is that my brothers are pretty smelly, they tried to escape from mama Wisty when it was bath time, can you tell them off please?” It was full of earnest, Pikekit had no problem trying to get them into trouble. In fact he found it rather humorous.
Owlstar grinned. "Aye, don't cha 'ave Wisteriawren ta tell 'em off? Er better yet, Rowanmane, sure he'll get onta yer siblin's." Owlstar was sure this was common sibling shenanigans. She'd never experienced it all herself, but she was greatly amused by all of it. All the witty remarks, the pushing the shoving, the pure bliss of it all. She figured Pikekit was entertained by it all.
"Also, takin' no baths ain't exactly 'come inta my den fer a talk' worthy." that is... Unless it got really bad. Owlstar could handle the stench of bodies and rot, but if some living cat could spew out that sort of smell they'd practically be begging to be kicked out or handed over to something without a nose.

Knowing that her absence would affect her reputability, the silver warrior thought it was still worth a shot to ask. With determined eyes, Floodsight gazed upon her leader. "I hope you can trust me with training once more."
Floodsight's tone was hard to place. Well meaning and polite yet cautious. Owlstar figured that was an appropriate reaction. All the news of... Everything... Was likely a rush. She wasn't sure what Floodsight was feeling, she would never be, she wasn't Floodsight, but she could only infer confusion.
Owlstar listened patiently before her gaze sharpened at the mention of coyotes and Floodsight's concerns. "Before er after Stormstar's death?" there was this knot in her throat... If it was before, that could mean that there was an indication of coyotes in the forest but it snuck under the radar. Meaning, if it was caught after Floodsight had been driven out, Stormstar would still be alive.
The tabby quickly bit her tongue. "Stars, what am I takin' 'bout? 'Course ya got driven out before she died." guilt made her shoulders slump as well as her sudden need for a time machine. "In that case, the coyotes 'ave been delt with. Checked territory, no sight a 'em. They should be long gone. But, might send out another patrol just ta be safe." there was no guarantee it was the same coyote. But maybe Owlstar was grasping at straws. Maybe Floodsight's words only fueled her urge to skin a coyote slack until she completely believed justice was served for a death that could've been prevented. She should've been there... It should've been her.
Her glossed over eyes regained their focus and she looked to Floodsight head on. She flashed a small smile. "Yeah, I trust ya chap." Owlstar said lightly, even if her tone was pinched from the newly found revelation. "Don't mind givin' ya a youngin' ta train. Ya've adjusted pretty well despite whatever happened ta ya. Riverclan needs agile mentors."
Somewhat winded, Owlstar hastily wrapped her words. "Any other concerns?"
The tom made his way earlier in the morning, after returning from one of his usual nightly hunts to escape the nightmares that decided to still clutch at his heart even when mentally they have lost all of their fear. "My pulse is clear, rushing through my ears."
Owlstar figured Seabreeze was one to have a lot on his mind, which was fair enough, there was a lot to think about. She slowly chewed on the prey given in slow bites, her eye bags particularly noticable this morning. Maybe it's because she forgot to stretch... Maybe she was turning into an old beat up rug, she certainly looked the part.
After listening to him speak (and tucking away the silent reassurance of her leadership for rainy days), the tabby would've whistled if she could. "Stars above, cain't say I blame yal" Riverclan was full of edgy teens. Owlstar would know, she was one of them. As good as things had gotten, everything wasn't perfect, especially after being stomped on (albeit rightfully) by the other clans, some cats might naturally feel inferior.
Not to mention the horror they've experienced on their own. Riverclan had been through a lot, and nocat ever bothered to talk about it. "So, a clanwide therapist, eh?" somecat emotionally stable preferably. With a sharp tug behind her eyes she thought about Beachkit. Anxious little bugger he was, such a dear. She liked taking with him. His words were thought provoking, his past something she was hoping he'd heal from.
Her expression gained this nebulous cloud of neutrality. Seabreeze's brother. They'd never made up, had they? The fur around her shoulders began to bristle. "Can ya handle it?" she pushed past the rough tone in her throat. "Would say ya, but ya gotta lot ta think about I presume? Or mayhaps a rotation... Everycat 'ere got some sort a baggage, one brain cain't carry it all. It'd be better ta distribute the pain, eh? In less words then needed, I think it's a good idea. Starclan knows Starrypaw had gotten a bit jacked up after her sister's death, anycat would be."

It was a thick blanket that engulfed her den just like the long shadows the sun cast.
"Before ya enter chap, ask ta come in." Owlstar said evenly before rising to her paws, half worried the apprentice might fall over. "Ya al'ight."
Owlstar lifted her head from where she had it rested on her forepaws. She tilted her head slightly before mewing a reply. "Aye chap, c'mon in."

She smelt the stench of blood before she smelt the warrior it belonged to. With a jolt, Owlstar thought a new fresh body was dragged into the clearing, repeating the string of disaster that started well into Stormstar's leadership. It made her teeth clench. She didn't protest as Beachheart walked in unprompted, her one eye staring down his mangled paw.
He should've seen Berryshine before he came to her, so hopefully she could wrap this up quick. Hopefully the blood didn't leave a trail for the --- "Otters!?" Owlstar hissed out, her hackles raising. She shook her head, her one eye wielding a level of fury. "Ya knew Smallpines had otters in the river, yet ya choose ta hunt in the area? A patrol is one thing, that's required, but nocat was askin' ya ta hunt at Smallpines, especially with predators just below yer nose." she should confine this cat to camp for their stupidity.
She understood all she said way to stay away from the water at Smallpines, but going there for something other than a border patrol was practically asking for trouble. Otters could walk on land, those slimy mutts, even if fighting there was limited it wasn't impossible.
"Ya'd 'ave ta be close fer them ta reach ya while still in the water, at the edge a the bank n' all." Owlstar pointed out, the tip of her tail lashing. "Thunderclan will deal with those otters chap, I ain't riskin' herbs er resources if we can keep this a Thunderclan problem. Go ta Berryshine and pray yer bleedin' pay didn't leave a trail right ta us." she prompted him away with a gesture of her head before pushing past him and out of her den to investigate the scene herself.
If her warriors kept loosing their common sense, they might end up having to fight a battle they didn't have to.
