tuftedtusk appeared to be a quiet cat, away from his friends and family at least. they were all alone, with their third patrol mate stars know where so he didnt really have a reason to talk to bug anyway. bug didnt mind, they didnt particularly enjoy small talk anyway.
after a while of staring and moving along the border to mark it every few steps, roachflare cleared their throat quietly, mismatched eyes darting back and forth, never focussing on tuftedtusks face for too long. "a-all clear...i dont see any-anything out of order" he commented, watching the older warrior for a reaction briefly before shifting his gaze to windclans side of the border again. the mud was weighing him down, with his legs short enough to sink almost entirely into the earth when he accidentally picked a particularly soft spot, stomach fluff dragging along.
perhaps they could turn around soon, there wasnt much more to see or refresh.

Tuftedtusk nodded to Roachflare, nostrils flared for one last sniff. Nothing. Quiet, just how he liked it. Even though his claws itched to dig into something. It was just a matter of time before he was able to do so. "Yes, let's head back. Nothing here to report. Nice and quiet." He rumbled, turning back towards the camp with a swish of his tail. No sign of Daffodilpaw, even in camp. Hm. Had to report that to Mistlewhisker.

Equa had escaped her soft kittypet life by accident, when a large doberman had created a hole in her humans' fence and almost took her life. She had wandered around for a moon or so, hunting when she could and such. She never meant to cross any boundaries- in fact, what and where even are these boundaries and so-called territories??? It almost seemed like some sort of prank.
-----------------------------
Yet still she didn't exactly 'question' it. After all, it is quite common for species to have different cultures, beliefs, and appearances. She learned that from her humans, always taking her around the world to visit relatives in Europe and Asia.
-----------------------------
Equa peered at Shrewstep, taking in his smell and overall appearance. He looked much scrawnier yet taller than other cats she had seen. He had an unfamiliar 'stench'. Equa widened her eyes as she spoke, "Uh.. Greetings. You smell odd, I-i was actually just lost. What is this place?" She asked, looking around at her unfamiliar surroundings for the first time. She was too focused on other cats' business(es) for her own good. @gs29513

Hawkfur padded out with his daughter and niece, the warm sunshine beating down on their pelts. The moor wind pulled the heat from their fur before it became too much, leaving Hawkfur feeling very upbeat and cheery. Plus he was on a patrol with his favorite girls.
"Alright, we remember what Lightningstorm said about the horsetail? Tall, bristly stem." He scanned the border, trying to find something that matched that description. It was a little difficult what with all the new green growth and the fact that they'd never seen horsetail, but he had faith in them. Probably.
"Let's do a quick walk of the border and see what we can find, yeah?" He smiled down at them and began the trip along the border. He kept his mouth open for the sharp scent of herbs, but ShadowClan's marshy stink wasn't making it easy. He frowned over at the other clan's territory as though his disapproval would help with the smell. It did not.
[Hawkfur rolled 1d20: 16!]
Just when the hopelessness really started to kick in--get a grip, brother--a sharp, bitter smell assaulted him. He chirped, following it to a large, fleshy plant with, wouldn't you guess, a bristly stem! "Egretpaw, Gnawingpaw, come look! I think this is it." There wasn't much, but it was enough for him to take a sprig or two. "Now that we know what exactly it looks like, it'll be easier to find." He purred happily. "Lightningstorm will be over the moon."

egretpaw sticks close to her father and cousin as they make their way to the border, eyes lingering on the neighboring clan's side once they actually arrive. oooh! it was scary— wait, no..shadowclan!! gah!! instinctively stepping closer to hawkfur, she squints at shadowclan's territory. despite the warm weather and color coming back to the surrounding territory, the tall pines still look just as intimidating as they did when she saw them a few moons ago, covered in snow. she didn't see any mean looking cats so far, though - didn't smell them either. plus, she's got papa and gnaws, so she thinks it'll be fine.
plus!! I'm big..ger than I was last time! I could just be like..WHAPOW! and scare 'em away!, she thinks confidently with a growing grin before turning her attention to her father. "yuuup! horsetail is a funny name," she giggles before trotting after the warrior. for awhile there, she didn't think they would find anything! she was a bit tempted to pluck a few random plants, but refrained from doing so.
ears swiveling, the tabby hurries over to inspect the plant. "oahh!! good job, papa!" she chimes, quickly looking in the surrounding area for more of the plant. the plant looked pretty weird, so she figures it shouldn't be too hard to find some. "gnaws, gnaws!! let's see who can get more!" she proposes before bolting off to try and find some more horsetail. after a bit of searching, she manages to find some and happily plucks it. yay!!
"imm..founf if!!" she cheers as she makes her way back to her father, angling her head to try to tickle him with the bristly stem part of it. she wonders how much gnaws found!

The paw's interest in plants was... considerably lacking, even if she did not mind looking for them. Traversing the border as they did, the she-cat found herself much more intrigued in the land beyond the border instead. Her Snowydad was always complaining about the stench of the place, but while it most certainly had a stronger scent that WindClan, she couldn't really understand what the big fuss was about. In earnest, the tales she heard about the cats from the other side were much more interesting than some paltry smell. Namely how bloodthirsty and war happy they were. Would they meet some at the border? Would they be attacked? And if so... would she be able to test if their legs snapped as easily as that cardinal's wing had? If they cried in as much helpless pain, or if being a warrior somehow made it more bearable and harder to coax into that melodious screaming...
Her uncle's words snapping her out of her happy reverie, Gnawingpaw turned her attention towards him and the weird little herb he had found. Nose wrinkling in mild amusement at the strangeness of it, she guessed there was a reason they had been sent to the border after all. There was no way funky crap like this grew over in the plateau, after all. Her tail swished behind her with clear glee as she heard Gretty's challenge. Leave it to her cousin to make this miserably dull assignment somewhat more bearable and fun.
"You're like, totes on!" she called back before squealing giddily and rushing off in the opposite direction, not willing to be defeated so easily.
Pale green gaze taking in every boring, green stuff she could find littering the border's floor, she scanned carefully, having already seen the... horsetail, was it? Yeah, Gretty and uncle Furbee were right. It did have a funny name! What the actual hell was a horse?! If it had a tail like that, then obviously it was an inferior creature. Maybe it was similar to that weird, opossum thing her dad had scared to temporary death during the fire. It had a weird, bald tail. Like... it made sense that there were other creatures like that with weird almost bald tails too, she supposed.
Blissfully ignorant as to how far from the truth she was when it came to the true nature of a horse, Gnawingpaw finally found them. A cluster of the stuff! It was a lot more than what her mentor had found, too! With this, she would definitely win the challenge. Like she was always meant to, duh. She couldn't go loosing to Gretty, after all. If she lost to Gretty, that meant she wasn't good enough to keep her safe, and she was too good enough. More than good enough! She wasn't going to lose Gretty like she did Seeds. No way!
Shaking the dangerously, downward spiraling thoughts from her mind, she called out for her companions, a smug smirk lighting up her features. "Uncle Furbee! Gretty! There's like, a ton over here! I'll bring back- AUGH GROSS! What the hell?! This tastes like crap!"
Having made to start gnawing her way through a few as she called out - she had to make sure she had some in paw, just finding them wasn't enough - some of the bitter juice from the stem coated her tongue, coaxing her to spit out and hiss in disgust. Never mind the smell of this place. It was the plants they had to keep an out for. What a bummer. And they had to carry these back?! So lame. But you know what was even lamer? Losing because it tasted horrible. Yeah, no. Pass. Gnawingpaw was no loser. She left that title to the name stealer, thank you very much.
Gritting her teeth for a moment, the large apprentice shut her eyes close before she opened her maw and went in for a mouthful of horsetail. At this point, she didn't care how pretty or how many she got. Just how many she could pull out from this cluster at once and not have to open her mouth until they were permanently gone. Hopefully they brought back so many that Lightningstorm would never need any more again. Because like, ew. The future leader of WindClan had better things to do than put gross ass plants in her mouth. Even if it was to thank the medicine cat for treating her idiot brothers' various injuries and illnesses.
Good they gathered rather quickly- oh boy. He looked at Shrikepaw as she...worked her way up to her question. The large white tom couldn't help but smile, she reminded him of Daffy when she was young. He chuckled, flicking the -paw's ear with his tail-tip in a friendly, teasing gesture. "Most cats in WindClan don't care for frogs." He answered, sweeping his tail to gather the patrol up and lead them out towards their hunting grounds. "We should be able to find other things there too. But I don't think Crowtooth would mind one more frog." He grinned mischievously at Shrikepaw. Of course Crowtooth would probably not be thrilled, but it's not like he had to eat the frog. Shrikepaw clearly would be more than happy to do so.
Once they arrived, he paused to let his patrolmates catch up. "Alright, Shrikepaw it seems you have experience hunting. Good." He mewed with a smile. "Stay close. I want you to be where Fernpool or I can see you at all times." This time, his voice was serious. He wouldn't - couldn't - lose another apprentice to the Twolegs.
Fernpool kept an eye out. Then she spotted it. A nice juicy mouse, on their side of the territory. (Rolled a 18) She spotted a mouse, and pounced. She trotted over to Rabbitfur, and placed it on the ground.
Fernpool kept an eye out. Then she spotted it. A nice juicy mouse, on their side of the territory. (Rolled a 18) She spotted a mouse, and pounced. She trotted over to Rabbitfur, and placed it on the ground.
And Fernpool was here now! Goodgoodgood! Oh - aaand, turns out frogs weren't actually banned? Mega-win! Even though she'd probably prefer something fluffier, but eh - food was food! "They are kinda weird and squishy, I guess!" She stated, bounding alongside him into the territory. She made sure to be extra careful as she walked, making sure she kept an eye out for traps. Seeing Cottonpaw's leg had been warning enough. If she was cooped up inside the medicine den all day, well, she'd probably go a little crazy. Still, that didn't mean she walked slowly. It was more so calculated jumps and bursts of speed. She could check the ground first, then run or jump.
It didn't take too long to get to the border, Rabbitfur reminded her to stay close, which she would definitely do (no matter how much she wanted to go running). "Mhhm! I watched Cottonpaw hunt, and I chased the frog right into his paws! Then I tried to chase a rabbit, but it was too quick! Oh, erm, and Dapplebreeze demonstrated some proper hunting, and it was. Very different to what I'd been doing, I think." She sniffed the air, hoping she'd catch onto some kind of prey scent soon [rolling for a miracle lol - rolled: 7]. Ooo, errrmm... No, she couldn't really tell what she was smelling at all. Oh, but Fernpool had caught something! "Oh! Oh wow good catch Fernpool!" She looked at the mouse in awe. She wanted to be able to do that!
