⤷ crowpaw just made a very bad choice. if you asked him now, he'd promise you that he REALLY didn't mean to do it. but the rabbit was big and he got distracted and he really wanted to prove himself to the clan by bringing back a real big thing of prey. it WAS NOT his fault that he'd been on a super cool patrol and he'd maybe run away a little bit and he'd MAYYYBE made a wrong turn and maybe stumbled right into a big scary monster. he had tripped into it before he knew anything, head on a swivel as he desperately tried to paw his way out of the Big Cold Icky Gray Thing. but then it snapped down on his tail, and he howled loudly in pain, and suddenly everything went deeply and terribly black.
more black then taking midday naps, more black than being piled on by his siblings and floundering under them, more black then ramming his face into his dad's fur and staying there.

.....That was not another cats voice he recognized and after a moment of thought the tom realized it was Strawberrypaws for once, something soothing as he realized she was serious about this. Huh, that was... Nice.
Sighing the tom nodded, explaining "Alright Ill teach everythin'. We'll start wit' the basics an' when ya got 'em Ill let ya spar me an' try 'em out while I teach ya some advanced moves.
After the lesson I expect ya ta do some sparrin' wit' other apprentices who are battle trained like yer siblin's or warriors who volunteer ta hone yer skills. In yer assessment Ill be sparrin' ya again but that time I wont hold back so yer gonna need ta be ready." Windclan didnt assess with claws out like shadowclan was rumored to do but Crowtooth did not send cats not prepared to fight for their life to warrior. Warriors attacked other warriors, and sometimes the two warriors fighting had vast age and skill gaps he had to prepare her for.
"First stances." Crowtooth fell into his, wide tall and not really built for dodging rather then grabbing, grappling, tanking blows and brawling. But it shared the same base. "Everyone fights differently based on skills an' body. I fight like a brawler. Im big an' stocky an' can take a hit while dishin' out a harder one. I fight wit' strength, brutality, an' not really dodin'. Twilightstar is too slight to fight like that. She fights like most o' windclan does, agile fast an' tactical. She moves constantly, dodgin' near every hit but the ones she lands are less hard hittin' then mine, if more numerous. Finally some cats fight tricky, foolin' opponents, playin' them an' usin' their moves against 'em. Agile, close, smart, sneaky.
But the base stance is the same."
The tom untucked his tail and gestured for her to walk around and investigate his, falling into the 'typical' stance he was describing, different from the one before.
"Paws a bit wider then shoulder length apart an' bend yer knees so yer springy, if ya can hop an' leap from a stand still well ya know ya got 'em bent right so try hoppin' until ya know how bendy ya want yer legs. Agile cats tend ta go low, brawlers an' tanks tend ta go high.
Keep yer head tucked low around yer shoulders an' narrow yer eyes an' pin yer ears, this makes too rather vulnerable parts smaller targets.
Also, keep yer tail tucked around a leg. Cats can an' will grab yer tail in battle an' I 'ave literally pulled a tail offa another cat which I dont wanna see happen ta yall. If ya got a balance issue perhaps talk ta me about options as tails are important fer balance but unless its really needed dont risk it.
Find a position that's comfortable fer ya but ya feel like ya can run an' leap from at a moments notice, 'cuz thats what dodgin' is."
The tom fell out of his stance once he thought Strawberrypaw got enough and pointed. "Now you. Ill adjust if somethin' aint right."

Strawberrypaw listens to her mentor speak intently, focused on the words coming out of his mouth. Her assessment, she would pass it. When it came. And then she'd make sure Dina, Frosty, and Jags were right there to pass and graduate beside her, too.
Copying Crowtooth, Strawberrypaw drops into a similar-ish enough stance to his, though it was a bit awkward with her lankier limbs. His explanation a second later made something click in her mind. Something like relief that there was more than one option as she straightened up again, watching with rapt, undivided attention.
For a long while Strawberrypaw only stared, shifting only on her feet to catalouge what the deputy looked like from all direction, absorbing his instructions. Mimicry came natural to her when she understood something, so after a brief few heartbeats, blue eyes trained on his form, Strawberrypaw slowly sinks into the supposed base stance, bushed tail coiling around one leg, before lifting her gaze to Crowtooth's again, expectant. "That?"
Birchfawn growled, teeth flashing as he stayed planted beside Coldpaw.
He watched as Crowtooth barreled into the she-cat. Coldpaw's voice rang out.
The other was hiding eh? Well, let's see if he could change that..
[Birch rolled a nat 20! ]
Before he could even think, the tom charged out of his hiding spot and went for Coldpaw, but missed.
Birchfawn sprang and landed on the toms back, digging in his claws and letting out a fierce caterwaul. "Get off WindClan land, you fleabitten scum!" He roared, eyes blazing with fierce determination.

What pathetic cats. These edgelords had come to windclan to steal and why? No damn reason but the belief they were flash and could. They had neither the brains to know better then to cross blatant scent lines and avoid a well honed clan nor the brawn to back up their fool actions. After all, what battle training did these cats have compared to clan cats? What will did they have?
Nothing, they were naught but fool pathetic edgelords not worth Crowtooths time and frankly he'd forget them as soon as he'd dumped their corpses for the scavengers outside of windclans borders. A dime a dozen these two, honestly.
Dodging Shadow going for tattered ears with the ease of a cat who'd been in countless battles before and won Crowtooth rammed a shoulder up at her jaw, hoping she'd bite off her own tongue or he'd break it. That would be at least mildly amusing, though not enough. No, he was killing this cat and his next move made that clear as he feinted a swipe to tear her throat out and instead struck low to gouge her belly with a curled paw to inflict more damage. "I hope a damn mouse was worth yer lives pathetic scum, 'cuz ya aint leavin'."
Ok so it was nice that Rainpaw could see her sister now and figure out how to get her out but less nice she'd already hurt herself. With a sigh, still making comforting clucking noises like Leopardsong used to do when she skinned her paw on something a lilac-silver paw reached inside to grab and 'pocket the now dislodged claws, planning to throw them at Lightningstorm she she could put them back on Coldpaw in the camp or something. Of course that'd come one they got her out, so Rainpaw set to figure out this cage thing and get that done, thoroughly through with this patrol.
The metal smelled bad too, ew.
"Uh, ok well theres a little gap here" The cage hadnt shut properly, door open still just a crack "Red-whatever can you like, yank it open so she can leave? Leechscar would be strong enough to do so. See the gap is right here Coldpaw." The molly advised, sticking a careful paw through and poking her sister so she could find it not knowing what'd come of that soon. "Hopes not lost just calm down and hold on a bit."
If Coldpaw could just stop loosing her mind, and boy did Rainpaw fight to keep her irritation off her face and scent to not send her sister into a tailspin further (honestly the injury thus far was minor and they had a clear path to open the door for her to escape), then things would be fine.
Or maybe not as, half way through turning to talk to Redmask on getting that door open even if he was too weak to do what Leechscar would manage easily, the mollys head snapped up, catching a scent on the wind. Redmask would smell it too if he was any good. Twolegs, twolegs approaching fast to get at their trap and whatever was caught inside. "Ok. Alright no more planning get it open NOW!"
A minor annoyance had turned into a real issue and Rainpaw was NOT going to loose her sister to these freak creatures!
And maybe Coldpaw had as little faith as she did in Redmasks ability because before the free'd could react she witnessed... Well she certainly witnessed something. A horrible ripping, blood, too much blood, as Coldpaw tore herself free at cost.
Rainpaw, for her part, was frozen, eyes wide at the sight, half stuck between disgust and fascination. Rainpaw was lucky it really just looked like she was in shock, rattled at everything because had Redmask been able to hear her true thoughts her thin veil of being at worst an entitled brat would be shredded.
Outside it seemed she was rocked and frozen in shock at her sisters state, but inside? Inside Rainpaw was wondering how Coldpaw could make such a stupid decision and hurt herself, and if she'd be ugly now with her new injuries. Stupid stupid sister, you couldnt be rational for just a bit.....
Regardless the twolegs were still coming and Rainpaw was now transfixed by the horrible bloody injury and useless, Redmask would be smart to usher them away.
"That?"
Examining his apprentices stance in turn the tom grinned, nodding and praising her with a "Looks good! As long as ya remember ta return ta that at the end o' yer moves ya got a good foundation ta be an amazin' fighter." though to be honest with her little bloodlust thing and her.... whatever her deal was Crowtooth kinda expected her to do well here regardless.
"Alright dodgin'. So injured cats tend ta be worse at movin' 'cuz theyre hurt an' injuries can take ya outta the fight altogether so unless yer good wit' pain or 'ave a solid plan prioritize dodgin' over attackin'.
Now sadly fer its importance I cant fully teach ya ta dodge, its instinctive an' the best way ta learn is practice wit' me or in sparrin' wit' other apprentices. However I can give ya tips."
Strawberrypaw was smart and more prone to using her head then some of his other trainees, she'd probably use this fast. ....Actually he was kinda scared of giving her the knowledge to analyze cats now.
Regardless he continued.
"Now the real trick ta acin' fights is predictin' what attack is bein' made against ya as early as possible. Ive been in situations where an' enemy made it too clear they were gonna swipe fer my head so I didnt just dodge but also grabbed the paw." Then kinda broke it, he was pretty sure. There was a crunch at least. "Ta do this look for a few key hints. Keep an eye on yer enemy's eyes, if ya see 'em focusin' on a limb or spot on yer body they're likely tryin' ta figure out how ta best strike it. Leanin' can also help, cats tend ta lean in the direction they move.
More advanced is tiiiiiny minor twitches of the paw or jaw as a hint o' both direction, aim, an' how yer enemy will attack.
Some cats though just seem ta know about enemy attacks though, like its a soul thin' I cant tell ya how.... Just- just spar after this, gain experience.
However ta give ya a feel fer it Imma throw some simple slow attacks at ya. Try an' dodge away in what feels right, when ya git more advanced and know some attacks ya can try an' counter attack when ya dodge but fer now thats a bit much."
With that in mind Crowtooth waited until she was ready and, far gentler and slower then he usually attacked (though still fast enough to not baby her) he swiped at Strawberrypaw's head.
It was all the simple moves so she could get a feel for them. A light snap at her chest and throat. Another at her scruff (a common move horrible of cruel warriors fighting apprentices). A swipe aimed to trip her ankles out from under her. And if that tail ever unwound he was grabbing that thing as a lesson.

The loyalty of rogues. They were siblings, clearly but look how quick they were to abandon eachother when the going got rough when a clanmate would die for another they had never even talked to.
And yet even facing death for a stolen mouse she'd caught thinking windclan was a beast to be played with this fool cats pride lingered. She did not repent, she did not see her error, she did not plead for the gift of life the stars had given her, though Crowtooth doubted the stars blessed this fool. No her pride and bloodlust meant she only sealed her fate and continued to attack instead of outrunning Crowtooth, who was no sprinter at all.
He was a fighter though, ducking low under Shadows swipe and lunging at her belly, both claws outstretched in a double rake against her vulnerable underside. With the force he was using if it landed maiming or killing was on the table.
Crowtooth was done talking to this fool, but to his clanmates called "Give 'im a warnin' ta remember ta not cross windclan again an' make sure he's gone Birchfawn! Coldpaw! Do not pursue!" not wanting the blind apprentice to over extend but trusting Birchfawn to make sure the rogue had truly run if he did escape.
