Demoted. First time, but she felt bad for letting down her patrol leader, her deputy...her leader. The look on his face when they didn't make it on time just hurts. The silence acceptance of their failures, one that can't be resolved. The silver warrior apprentice had too much on her mind. Regret? Frustration. Disappointment in herself. She didn't know how she'll make it up to the clan or to Sunheart. Floodpaw couldn't believe she failed at the one thing she was supposed to do. Keep the clan safe. And with that, also comes with the responsibilities of patrolling the border. With all the thoughts running through her mind, she needed peace. Peace and quiet to clear her mind.

Even if she wanted, she couldn't go to Lionsbeach. Not as an apprentice. So she needed some one to accompany her. Her usual got-to friend would've been Waspmeadow, her sweet, sweet friend she haven't seen since she returned. But today, she decided to ask someone new. Duskclaw.

Once she found him, Floodpaw spoke in voice that soft but worn out. "Duskclaw?"

"Would you like to take a walk with me, to Lionsbeach?"

Duskclaw was resting in the sun. He'd been gone a while doing Duskclaw things, like plotting and thinking. This wasn't too unusual, he had a habit of being gone a couple days at a time. Luckily, he was around in this moment. The colossal warrior looked over to Floodpaw upon hearing his name. He sat up and yawned, very much out of the loop.

"Hi, Floodsight" Truth be told, Duskclaw would rather lay in the sun and sleep. It was that kinda day today, but a little feeling tugged at him. He would rather sleep, but he would much rather spend time with Floodpaw. "When are we leaving?"

She winced at the mention of her name, perhaps the news hadn't reached him yet. But the silver she-cat was too disappointed, too embarrassed to correct him. She only gave him a gentle nod whilst looking away towards the late afternoon sun.

"Now- if, if we could?" Floodpaw asked, her stormy eyes gazed over to Duskclaw who seemed more comfortable lying around. Perhaps, she should just let him be. Augh- just a singular mistake on her patrol had cause her to fumble over her own thoughts. Made her doubt herself so readily that her choices were wrong and that her actions were being scrutinized. Was she being a bother? "If you're too busy, another day then."

Duskclaw noticed Floodpaw's changed personalty. Something was clearly bugging her. The rusty tom stood up and nodded as he started walking. He waited until they got far enough from the RiverClan camp that the words they spoke couldn't possibly be heard by the rest of the clan. As Duskclaw walked he tilted his head over to Floodpaw.

"Who'd you kill?" It was unclear if the question was in jest or genuine. Duskclaw didn't think Floodpaw had it in her to murder, but he's been wrong before.

"Kill!?" Floodpaw let out an exasperated gasp. "What in the stars made you think I killed someone?"

Her eyes flared with horror trying to discern whether this was a usual Duskclaw joke or if he was serious. Floodpaw stopped sort in her tracks and just shook her head with scrunched up brows. "No..no, I didn't. I just-"

It was too much too explain, to much to comprehend at the moment. Stars. She swished her tail softly and then continued to walk at a faster pace. Is that what he thought of her? Well...stars.

"I don't think that. You walked up to me, nervously asked me to walk far away with you, and wanted so immediately. It was a logical conclusion." Duskclaw continued to walk. He realized his question was in poor taste for the stressed she-cat. Floodpaw came to him for help, he should probably help.

"What's on your mind, Floodsight?" Duskclaw's tone was a bit more caring this time around. He quickened his pace to match Floodpaw.

She listened to Duskclaw trying to explain himself, but his voice was slowly drowned out by the silence between them. Instead, the sound of their pawsteps had replace any usual chitter chatters. The soft lush ground beneath them had slowly turned more course and the sea waves could be heard from a distance. They were- getting close.

Relieved but at the same time, Floodpaw cursed herself for being irritable over this entire thing. It was the first time she got demoted, but it had hit hard. Though she didn't try to show it within camp, but it all broke down and flooded her feelings when they've left. There's so much she could've done yet she didn't step up when it came time to.

Little by little, she slowed her pace and gave the dark tom a brief glance- wanting to fill the silence with her despairs, but also, she wanted to keep it all in. It's all a first for her. Strange. Daunting. The silver she-cat took a deep breath before starting, "We were late to return on a patrol...twice."

"I feel so bad. I should've tried harder to get everyone back on time. We were given another chance, yet we still failed. I just- I wanted-" Floodpaw trailed off a little as she tried to regroup her words, but the right ones failed to formulate in her mind. "I could've done better for my patrol, for the clan..."

Floodpaw shook her head, her stormy eyes looking towards Duskclaw trying apologize. Half still disappointed in herself, but the other half was ready to admit her behaviour being out of tune. "Sorry, about earlier. I was such a mess, so unlike myself. I-"

Duskclaw walked over to Floodpaw and licked the top of her head to comfort her. Hearing Floodpaw's hurt sparked a bit of anger in him. Not at Floodpaw, but at RiverClan. This wasn't the time for reciting his manifesto about the culture and politics of the clans, no, it was Floodpaw's time.



"Your regret will hurt you more than any wound, Floodsight." He rested his head on her's, doing his best to comfort his friend. Duskclaw stressed the 'sight' part of Floodsight, not out of mockery but defiance. "We are RiverClan Warriors. When met with failure, do we drown or swim?" He did not wait for Floodpaw's answer. "We swim, and if we can't, we fight fang and claw to keep our head above the water. What is a failed patrol but a chance to succeed next time? You can either drown in sorrow at your failure or keep swimming. Which do you choose?"

She'd quietly accepted the comfort from Duskclaw. He was right, it was just a mistake and mistakes aren't always the end. Now wasn't the time to despair in her past actions. She could always pick herself back up like she always did, and that was exactly what she needed to do at this moment. How silly. Really silly. The silver she-cat shook her head with a soft chuckle. Floodpaw must've appeared to be in such a deep despair that even the usually blunt Duskclaw was trying his best to comfort and motivate her.

"You're right, thank you. We keep our heads up and we keep on facing the current," Floodpaw replied, her usual warm tone slowly sunk back in. The silver she-cat took a deep breath before shaking off this embarrassing moment.

Duskclaw gave her a small smile and walked a little ways to be in view of the sea. He always loved the beach, such power and size. It was unconquerable and relentless, uncaring of the whims of cats. He sat and looked out upon the vast body of water.

"Sit with me, Floodsight. There is beauty in simply witnessing the world." His voice lacked a lot of its harsher tones. Duskclaw was beginning to enjoy Floodpaw's company more than any other cat. For fleeting moments the cold hatred in his heart would subside like waves leaving Lionsbeach.
