The long furred silver warrior padded by the nursery after sun-high, tapping her paws gently outside to inform them before sliding into the warm den full of queens and kittens. It's been a while since Floodsight had seen the little ones... afterall, she'd just returned from her solo journey from the depths of hell. But the vibrancy of the nursery does take her back to the better days, filling her with a subtle warmth.

Her soft but slightly raspy voice called out into the nursery for the little gray kitten who'd eagerly requested swimming lessons. "Mintkit~ are you ready for your swimming lesson?"

Mintkit stared at the nursery entrance. And stared some more. When will the nice cat, Floodsight, come? She was excited to learn something new. And it was a really cool skill, one that alls the warriors and apprentices knew. She checked the entrance again. No Floodsight. I'll be patient! She thought, and settled into a loaf.

Mintkit perked her ears, hearing Floodsight's voice. Flood's here! She got up and went to Floodsight, her large green eyes sparkling. "Yeah!"

She'd smiled at the little one who stared up at her with sparkling eyes. 'Oh, she's been waiting.' So eager, so curious and bright eyed to a world of possibilities. Floodsight stormy eyes softened a tad bit before letting out a small purr in amusement.

"Glad to see you so prepared." Floodsight replied giving the small one a soft nudge with her nose before beckoning the kit to follow her to a small shallow pool within camp. She'd cleared her throat before starting. Floodsight wanted to go through the some ground rules before they got started, so she explained it slowly and carefully. "First things first, swimming is a skill that makes RiverClan so unique amongst the others in the forest. One that allows us survive and thrive."

"But it comes at a risk, so we have to make sure little ones like you..." Floodsight continued after giving Mintkit a small tap on the head. "...learn how to swim and when you could."

"Let's start on the basics today but you'll have to promise me you won't go practicing without a warrior's supervision. Yeah?" She'd added gently. Though it wasn't a stern promise or warning, it was still important reminder for the little ones.

Mintkit padded after Floodsight happily. She stopped at a shallow pool inside of camp.
She was a tiny bit glad that it was small, because she didn't want to drown in a big big pool! That would be scary, and she'd miss Snows and Astymom, and that would be bad.
She listened as Flood continued talking. Yeah! She wanted to be like Riverclan, too. She squeaked when Floodsight tapped her nose, and nodded vigorously with her eyes wide. "Okays!" she chirped when the warrior was done. She didn't think she was brave enough to do it by herself right now, anyways.

She'd smiled at the little one's compliance before she'd stepped into the shallow pool. It was like a puddle to a large warrior such as herself, but it would be a deep wade for the little kitten in front of her. The water felt a bit cool, but it wasn't freezing. The late noon's sunshine had warmed it up to fine temperature.

"Come here, Mintkit." Floodsight spoke gently. "Try stepping in the water. I'll be right here if you need help."

The silver warrior waited in the shallow pool to aid Mintkit. She watched the little one carefully, waiting to attend to any mishaps that may happen, but typically speaking, this was the easiest part. The first few steps will just help the little one grow accustomed to the water before trying anything else.

Mintkit peered at the water, experimentally dabbing a paw on the surface. She squeaked in surprise at the ripples, and glanced up, up, up at Floodsight. She nodded at the warrior's words and looked back down. She hesitantly placed a paw in the water. Seeing as the ripples won't hurt her, she stepped another paw in, then another, then the last one. The water's ripples lapped on Mintkit's paws before settling and she thought, It feels kinda... gentle. Encouraged, she waded in up to her belly fur. "It feels weird!" She squeaked, as her tummy got wet.

The silver warrior chuckled at Mintkit's surprise from the water below. The reaction was normal and adorable as always. Throughout the moons of Floodsight's career of teaching kits and apprentices, learning to swim always had different responses. Some just went with the flow, others were a little cautious and every once in a while, there were cats who desperately tried avoiding the water until it finally caught up to them. Not all cats adapt to the water quickly, even if they were a RiverClanner. For one, Floodsight didn't really have the best time with it until she started practicing with Sunheart.

"That's it, Mintkit. You're doing great, dear." Floodsight softly encouraged whilst keeping an eye on the little one. "The further you wade into the pool, the floatier it will feel. Almost as if you are jumping, but it takes longer to land. Doesn't it feel like it?"

"So, how do we stay afloat?" Floodsight proposed the question she'll answer. The silver warrior waved her paws in a paddling motion. "We'll move our paws as if we're running, but do it slowly, and you can keep your head above the water."

"But before we try that, let's see if you can hold your breath," the silver warrior introduced. Holding one's breath would be very important if one were to ever go under the water for whatever reason. Be it on purpose or by accident, learning this would be indefinitely helpful for the little one. "This would be pretty simple. All you got to do is breath in..."

"...and hold it." Floodsight demonstrated it, before beckoning the little one to do the same.

Mintkit stared at the water below her in fascination for a moment, before she looked up at Miss Floody as she began speaking. “Ooh… It does!” the gray kitten responded. She tipped her head slightly as she heard Floodsight’s question, and listened as the warrior explained how to do it. Green eyes watched the warrior demonstrate the paddling motion.

Hold my breath? She thought, a little bit confused. She wondered why cats would need to hold their breath for swimming, cause wasn’t that the whole point of swimming? But she trusted Miss Floody, so she nodded her head a little nervously before innnhaalllinggg. Mintkit stopped breathing in, squeezing her eyes shut as a few moments later she couldn’t hold it any longer and her breath escaped in a whoosh. She glanced up at Miss Floodsight worriedly, wondering if she had done it right.
