Re: Sunkissed Creek
───── BLOSSOMCLAW ─────
Thunderclan | She/Her | Warrior | 22 Moons
PURRKS : Mind Reader
······················•✦ •······················
Sunkissed Creek, it had been a while since she had visited this spot in the territory. Not since that dreaded sickness had washed over the camp. She had been lucky enough to avoid the blunt of it, but many she knew had been affected, some having gotten as far as not returning.. permanently. A quick glance around to her patrol mates revealed Mallowswarm was reveling in the same haunting memories. Perhaps they were one of those lucky enough to have suffered by survived? She didn't know the molly well enough to tell if her expression displayed mourning or sorrow for her own time cramped by the stream's bed, unsure if she'd wake up the next day. Still, it seemed she had the same mindset as Blossomclaw, to keep moving despite it all, as she wandered off away from the traveling group.
Letting out a breif sigh, shaking her head free of the grief the memories brought her, she took the chance to let her jaw fall slack, muzzle parting slightly to allow the scents of the creek to wash over her tastebuds. Downwind, it seemed they were, thank Starclan. The wet, yet mouthwatering scent of the vole her clanmate was hunting washed over her tongue, but she fought to ignore it, allowing the other to catch it without a hitch. A mettalic tang greeted her as she made the decision, it seeming to have been the right one.
Still, there was no time to celebrate the easy catch, the clan would need more than a single vole to feed them, and she'd like to have something extra to carry back to the elders specifically when she arrived. Screwing her eyes shut, she let her ears twitch every which way, hoping combining the two senses would give her the advantage. It seemed the creek had been hunted dry, or perhaps the critters just hadn't deemed it warm enough quite yet to come out, till a ripple of grass, nearing the edge of the brief clearing by the waterbed caught her attention. A faint scent soon joined it, though barely distictable through the heavy pollen that clouded her senses.
[ Dice Roll: 6 & 1 ]
Instinctively dropping into a hunting crouch, she kept her ears honed in where she had heard the sound, creeping closer with as light of a step as she could with her heavy figure. As she inched nearer to the sound, she was able to identify the scent of a mouse.. no.. mice, two it seemed to be. That would explain the rustle, the grass in this area was too tall to have been distubed by just one lowly mouse.
She was nearly close enough to slap a paw down on the pair, their still forms finally in view, when it seemed one turned to see her, automatically darting off and triggering the other along with it. She was just barely lucky enough that they had darted off in the same direction, heading further away from the creek to what seemed to be a hole in a tree base. She took off behind them, assuring her belly only skimmed the grass as to not disturb other prey in the area, but was just slightly too late, as one ducked into the tree, the other following behind in close pursuit. In a panic, she shoved her paw into the hole, which luckily was just barely big enough to fit it, though it was a tight sqeeze, and managed to slam it down on the tail of the second mouse. With careful manuvering as it tried it's hardest to excape, she dragged the mouse back out, wincing in pain as a slight sting accompanied the rodent, who had chomped down on her paw the moment it had the ability to turn and do so.
Letting out a brief growl, she quickly shook off the victim's head, snapping her canines down on it's throat as it wriggled and grinning in satisfaction when it laid limp beneath her, "Damn pests, luckly you're so delicious." Her paw had leaked the slightest bit of blood, but other than a slight sting seemed fine. Perhaps she'd get it check out later, perhaps what would really happen is she'd ignore it till it became a problem. Only Starclan could tell.
··········•✦•··········
Carrying the mouse, which at a second glace was actually a fairly decent size, was it pregnant??, back to the rest of the group, Blossomclaw dug a small hole to drop it into before moving onto the next hunt, hoping there was enough time before they had to be back to locate another source of prey. Her chase had likely killed the chances of any more land prey appearing for a moment, but perhaps the stream could be a source of food. Had she ever taken a water hunting lesson? Perhaps that was something to look into, but for now, trial and error would be her guide.

Re: Sunkissed Creek
RACCOONHOWL
THE LITTLE HOUND
Pending Quote...
She Followed The Patrol With A Small Nod, Releived To Have The Others Chewing Her Ears Off. The Short-Legged She Floug Herself Over A Fallen Log, And Skittered Around, Sniffing For Prey On The Way.
The Sound Of Running Water Told Her They Were Near. What If The Sickness Lurked? Could She Still Get Sick, Or Had It Been Erased With The Smell? The Little Hound Lightened Her Pawsteps In Case She Scared Some Prey Off. She Lowered Her Head, And Started To Search For Scents.
[RaccoonHowl Rolled A 13. Fail.]
No Luck. Raccoonhowl Found No Trace Of Near Prey In That Area. Only Stale Trails. She Moved On, And Stumbled Across A Vole. She Dropped Into A Hunter's Crouch, And Staled Up To It.
[Raccoonhowl Rolled A19! Sucess!]
She Landed Swiftly, Suprisingly Well, And Delivered A Sharp Nip To The Neck. It Was A Plump Vole, But She Could Bring Back More. She Buried It And Continued On Sniffing. She Stumbled Across A Munching Rabbit, And Pounced.
[Raccoonhowl Rolled An 11. Fail.]
Turns Out Her Luck Ran Short. Her Stubby Legs Didnt Carry Her Far Enough, Or High Enough, And She Landed Akwardly Halfway To The Rabbit. Which Jumped Into Its Burrow Shed Failed To See. With A Hiss Of Frustration, She Got Up And Went Back To Her Vole, Digging It Up And Carrying It To The Creek To Wait For The Others.
