Dreamlight lifted her head as a sharp breeze swept through the prairie. The scent of grass and wildflowers tickled her nose. She could smell the few cats that had passed through recently, a patrol, and another mentor-apprentice pair. The lilac-gray feline blinded her sightless orange eyes as the kisses the breeze left on scarred lids made her hind leg twitch.

"So you seem to have something against being blind, or at least I hope you do, and it's not that you just dislike me." The warrior's ear swerved to catch the sound of Freezepaw's paw steps as she stepped out into the territory. "Would you mind explaining it to me, only if you want to, of course." Her tone remained light and airy as the wind that rustled the grass.

Her tiny paws walked through the trodden grass of a well-used path. She left her mouth ajar a little to taste for anything unusual or dangerous. Her ears listened for any windbeats of large birds. "So this is WindClan's general territory. It's a wide field of overgrown grass. Can you hear or smell the water nearby? There's a river that cuts through it. It's not deep enough to have any fears of drowning if you fall into it. You'll have to learn how to watch your steps around the burrows here, they're are a lot of rabbit burrows through the territory. You could hurt your leg if you accidentally step in one while hunting," Dreamlight advised while listening for any questions.

Freezepaw followed his mentor, paws buzzing in anticipation. Finally! He could start his training, know his own territory. The soft wind brought many scents to him from the moor—smells of wildflowers, heather, grass, other cats, and far-off rabbits. The scents excited him, like it had so many moons ago.

Gray-striped paws froze, however, when Dreamlight spoke. A pang of guilt was felt as he remembered when they first met, remembered the warrior’s reaction to his words. Stupid, stupid, I’m so stupid, he thought. Freezepaw didn’t have anything against Dreamlight. He hardly even knew her! But he remembered his hesitation, his disappointment when he realized his mentor was also blind. In retrospect, it made sense. The warrior could help him way better than any other sighted warriors. Although he was still worried about his peers bullying him… Like everyone.

Freezepaw realized Dreamlight had carried on, ahead of him, and he rushed to catch up, stumbling a little and cursing himself. He opened his mouth to speak, but the warrior had already started talking again. He fell in a miserable silence, listening to his mentor. Wide field of overgrown grass… He already knew that. Gray ears perked when Dreamlight mentioned the water, and he did hear a faint bubbling of a stream. Opening his mouth slightly, he could smell it as well. Freezepaw felt relief when his mentor mentioned it wasn’t deep enough for drowning—He could imagine that would be a terrifying experience. He snorted when she mentioned the rabbit holes. Oh, yes, he knew about those. He’d fallen into plenty of them while he had been… lost. A ripple of discomfort traveled across his spine as he remembered… he didn’t want to remember.

He assumed he’d get to see the landmarks soon, so he didn’t bother asking about them. He did, however, have some other questions. “What sort of predators are here?” Freezepaw asked, flicking his tail slightly. “Any other obstacles I need to watch out for?” He added dryly, once again resenting his blindness.
