Tigerfur breathed in the warm afternoon air, watching the sun dapple through the tree leaves. He loved new-leaf. Stopping, he scented a vole through the trees. Getting into a hunting crouch, he wiggled his hindquarters and pounced, landing squarely on the vole and delivering a killing bite. I hope Lilacbird liked that! he thought. Maybe she thinks I'm cool?

"Good catch!" said Lilacbird, blushing and smiling. Suddenly, she smelled rabbit. The creature was close, but not within leaping distance. She sniffed the air again, pinpointing its location. "Tigerfur, rabbit!" she called. Lilacbird pointed in its direction, conveying the location to Tigerfur.

Tigerfur, still carrying the vole, shifted his weight slightly, trying to hide his own nervousness. "It was a quick one," he replied, his voice a rumble in the quiet. His tail had started to twitch with a restrained excitement, a nervous habit that he instantly recognized. He wanted to appear calm and confident, but the butterflies fluttering in his stomach betrayed him.
"You go around to those bushes. I'll chase it, and then when it comes near you leap out and kill it. Does that sound okay?"
