Morningpaw perked up immediately. Oh, this one was about hunting! Yes! Clearing his throat slightly, he twitched his dark tabby ears and stated clearly, "The third rule of the Warrior Code is about hunting. Elders, Queens, Kits, and sick or injured cats must be fed before anyone else in the clan. Warriors eat next, and unless given permission, Apprentices cannot eat until they have hunted and fed the Elders." He grinned to himself, silently congratulating how well he remembered it. Yay! "I personally think that this one of the most important ones in the whole Code. Prey is what keeps the clan running, and the eldest and weakest need it more than the rest of clan. To let them starve would be highly disrepectful, and so the hunters of the clan feed everyone else before they eat anything. Even eating a single bone before feeding the Elders would be breaking the Code; and prey is one of the most vital parts of clan life." Well. Morningpaw was clearly enthusiastic about this one- He felt quite opinionated on his view of this.

Mosstangle nodded along as her apprentice went on quite the monologue about the hunting part of the code. She smiled proudly at him. She remembered how excited to hunt he had been before his lessons, like a flashback as she thought about it. He had been quite full of energy, and she was seeing it all over again. It was good to see something so important be such a passion to him.

The dark tabby purred as Morningpaw finished. "Well, I feel like that needs no further comment. You really caught the mouse on a root." She said, giving the rabbit another bite as pride shined in her green eyes.

"The fourth rule of the warrior code; A Gathering of all five Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night." Mosstangle knew there wasn't too much to say about this one. It was what it was and quite straight forward, though if he had any particular opinions on it, she was quite interested in hearing it. She always felt like the other clan cats just smelled bad and stank up the seastones, but hey, at least it wasn't a bloodbath.

Well, that went great! Morningpaw felt very good after that, and flicked his tail as he listened to Mosstangle once more. Okay, he could do this. "Fourth rule of the warrior code. Every full moon, the clans gather together at Seastones, for Gatherings, under a temporary truce. Cats share stories and news, and fighting is against the Warrior Code during this time." Morningpaw said, mottled tail swishing from side to side. "I'm pretty... neutral on this part on the Code. I think its good that the clans get together without tearing each other to shreds, and share news of births and deaths and dangers. Like I said for the first rule, each clan cannot exist without the others." After a moment, the black and brown apprentice added, rather dryly, "I also think the other clans smell and Shadowclan is superior still." Amber eyes glimmered slightly, whether from amusement or annoyance it was hard to tell, but oh well.

Mosstangle laughed at Morningpaw's comments. "Good," She trilled, "I'd have to box your ears if you thought any different!" She told him, swiping at, but intentionally missing, the apprentice's ear. Then she sat and started grooming her paw as she felt her hunger sated by half the rabbit. That was quite the meal.

"Rule five of the code; No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan." She continued with the one she felt was perhaps the easiest of them all to follow. She would have difficulty leaving most cats in pain or danger if there was something reasonable that she could do to help, but a kit? Well, who could possibly leave a kit out like that? The fact it was part of the warrior code... Well, once upon a time, someone had to have made it a rule for a reason.

Oh, Morningpaw knew this one, and he said it before. I mean come on, everyone should know this rule. "Warrior Code rule number five. No one neglects a kit in danger, or in pain, no matter where you are or what clan the kit is from." The apprentice stated clearly, drawing a paw over his face and ears as he cleaned. "Another vital one. Kits are the future of the clans, of all the clans, and letting them suffer weakens future generations. Also it's awful becauss kits are cute and helpless." Morningpaw meowed, twitching his dark tail as he settled back into a loaf.

Mosstangle nodded. It was very informative to know which topics that Morningpaw was most, or least, passionate about. She didn't feel like there was any need to add onto that. Once again, Morningpaw was on point, though it was sweet to hear him talk about kits. Good to know her cranky apprentice did have quite a few soft spots.

"Rule six of the warrior code; A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice." She recited. This one was fairly straight forward, though she noticed that quite a few apprentices and kits alike didn't necessarily understand the reasoning behind this one. She was very interested in hearing Morningpaw's input.

"Do I even need to repeat that.." Morningpaw grumbled, amber eyes flicking around the clearing again from where he loafed. Sighing, he said, "Sixth rule- kits must be at least six moons before becoming apprentices." Honestly, why was this even a part of the Code? Well actually he could think of a few reasons but.. "This one makes sense, because kits any younger than six moons will be too small, or not strong enough to handle training. This rule is mostly for their own safety, and to ease the queens' minds, probably." He said, paws twitching for a second. "Which is why I think it's ridiculous when kits are made apprentices at younger- I don't give two frogs if they're 'special'! That rule exists for a reason." Morning ended, with a roll of his eyes.

Ah, the occasional attitude had come out just like that. Mosstangle listened to her apprentice, nodding along slowly as she heard him out. She would certainly lose her mind if Dawnstar did not recognize him for his intelligence when it was time for his warrior ceremony... Though it wouldn't come as a surprise if pride or arrogance was brought up. These traits rarely came up as issues, though, and usually his attitude only started when he was growing impatient.

"Though it may be common sense to you, it wasn't always so. Long before any of our times, leaders who were desperate for more warriors were not unknown to break the code and promote kits as young as three moons of age. Before the this rule, it wasn't uncommon to lose many kits to the hardships of training. It was a dangerous practice, and we cannot forget how important it is to protect our young. That is why it remains a solid part of the code." The young, the old, the ill... They all deserved protection to ensure the clan could keep moving forward.

"How about rule seven of the code; The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires, or is exiled." Mosstangle continued on, tail wrapping neatly around her paws as she tilted her head, giving Morningpaw a chance to self-correct from his distracted gaze. She wondered if she needed to walk them out of the camp. Perhaps he could use a walk. Maybe he felt a little couped up? Dawnstar's rules were a bit strict with the minimum of two cats and at least one being a warrior to leave the camp.
