It'd been awhile since he'd had any proper water combat practice. It wouldn't hurt to brush up on it now, especially with those otters closing in. Thus, the senior warrior found his large paws carrying him to join Gutworm and the others, remaining quiet as he surveyed those gathering around them. He knew how this worked well enough, and was honestly looking forward to stretching his legs in the water.

Gutworm nodded at Asterfly. “Of course. It’s admirable that a queen such as yourself is still participating in training at all, even if it’s just by observing.” She smiled at her, tail flicking back and forth. “Say, would you mind if I came by to visit the kiddos sometime? I’d love to meet the next generation, and maybe teach them a thing or two.” Unfortunately, Gutworm had a tendency to forget the young age of kits and play a bit too rough. If Asterfly let her visit, she’d need to keep an eye on her.

Turning back to focus on the group, she skimmed her yellow eyes across them. There was a pretty even number of apprentices and warriors, which was good, since she’d be pairing them up.

“Okay,” she said, addressing them all. “I’m going to assign everyone a partner to practice with. Once you receive your assignment, please join your partner at the edge of the river.” Gutworm did some quick math in her head before continuing.

”The pairs are Fallenspirit and Speckledpaw, Stagheart and Ospreypaw, Ripplenose and Midnightpaw, Wildfoxglove and Asterpaw, and Dizzybug with Starrypaw. If your partner ends up having to leave early, or there are other complications with the pairs, please join another pair and become a group of three. On a similar note, newcomers are still welcome to join in, so long as they come to me first.”

Stagheart nodded as he heard his assignment. Ospreypaw... his gaze flitted around until he noticed the 'paw, a tiny-framed orange, black, and white she-cat. He dipped his head in greeting, offering a low "Hullo" in his gruff drawl. As large and scarred as he was, the warrior could be rather intimidating, but his expression was friendly enough behind those sharp eyes.

"You ever been in water combat before?" The tabby tom asked, stepping into the water where it only lapped up to the middle of his forelegs. It'd be good to see where the apprentice was at, first, before they tried anything.

Spiderpaw was dozing in her nest in the apprentice den when she heard the call. It had taken her a while to gather what had been said... Then her eyes blinked open and she got to her paws, shaking the bedding from her pelt and scrambling out of the apprentice den. They were already pairing up! She was late!

The blue tabby looked over at the pairs before turning and padding up to Gutworm, ears drooping slightly in embarrassment for being late. "Gutworm...? Could I join in as well?" She asked quietly.

"I'm weak. What's wrong with that?"

Ospreypaw shifted when she heard her name. Stagnight? She had definitely heard of the warrior, but she was hoping for a cat that she knew well. That was okay, she'd have to learn to cope with other clanmates. N-never. She murmured, pleased that her stutter wasn't that bad today. Maybe it was because she was calmer? H-have y-y-you? The second after she asked the question, the she-cat felt a flush of embarrassment. Of course she had! She was a warrior!

Blackstream slipped her way into the crowd, curious. Water combat? Now there's an idea. RiverClan shouldn't be afraid of some measly otters, no no no, the otters should be afraid of them! She wondered why her Clan wasn't already adept in dealing these sorts of problems. Aren't otters, like...super common? She didn't dwell on this thought too long, especially after she remembered how she had never seen an otter before in her entire life.

A part of her hoped ThunderClan wouldn't lay a paw on the slippery water pups. It would be more appropriate if RiverClan did the honors, in her opinion. It would make a great story under her wing, too—getting to fight off otters with her bare fangs! How cool! Maybe she could earn a few good scars, too!

Well now, wasn't this interesting. Irisdream wasn't usually much for combat...she much preferred hunting. But still...she would always answer her clan's call. She assisted in fighting the dogs to claim their new home, and bore those scars, and she'd fight otters too if necessary. She stepped forward, her movements fluid and graceful, though the hesitance burrowed itself deep behind her gaze. The fight with the dogs...the injuries she sustained and suffering that came after...it wouldn't soon be forgotten. But that said, she couldn't abandon her clan. Especially now...
